Thought I would post this as I just brought one..
My Screen died yet again. after only having it in for service about March. Mind you it was here in Asus China.. so...
Anyway, It was giving me the dreaded black screen no turn on type thing, Plus a few of the other characteristics that have been documented in the Katkiss thread of late- Corrupted partition.
After the last battle with it, I ended up with a full strip on the left hand side about 50mm that is unresponsive.. nothing that you can do on the touch side of things, but mouse still works. Anyway.. wasn't going to send it back. as its not worth the aggravation of dealing with the idiots at the Asus aftersales service. So went and brought the Nexus 10.. Loving it..
but for project decided to look for another LCD screen and came across this seller with the full frame for sale.. so its about $US65.. so its my weekend project.. as Dam.. with Katkiss JB4.3 around.. I just want to play with it on the TF101.. Just not ready to let this thing die as yet.
I will update the post once i get it up and running.

Well, its back up and running..not with out a few tense moments..
The picture you see is NOT what you get..as no frame..they **** you on that..
Which I found out to my detriment.. As I order the full set thinking that I wasn't going to have screw around with the glue thing..
it turned out it turned up and I was...what the...

Anyway as it comes glued already..how the .... Are you suppose to screw the LCD panel in..
Derrrrrrr...can't unless you do some strange but thing..and or bend the brackets around..

Anyway..
Not to be deterred.. I got out the trusted plastic tools and went about separation of the screen from the LCD panel...new one...as I already had got the old one off with no drama..and cleanly.
Note..make sure you know which you are separating..as I found out the hard way that I was actually separating the gorilla glass from the touch screen...were wondering why it was so dam hard...plus one hell of a mess..
Lucky the original was still in good order so I finally was able to separate the new LCD panel and clean it up..
I almost gave up..but pushed through..it wasn't going to beat me.. plenty of man handling going on..I put it all back together...yeha..
Mind you I wasn't thinking that it was going to crank up as I was man handling the LCD panel pretty heavily ...but up popped Tims little mascot and 4.2.2 fired right up...sign of relief..
So straight to 4.3 I have came and its powering along...too good to be true..
Thanks Tim...and others that have ported the 4.3..
Of course I have a few more creaks from around the edges And a little light bleed on the left hand side but as I was lucky that the double sided tap from the original glass was still sticky and usable..
Will let it settle in and put it thru its passes and see how it goes before I pull it apart and pop some silicon in there..

If you do it, the Russian video is the best to use to strip it down but there are a few little steps it miss's
Thus the other two come in handy.

Where did you find the full frame with the LCD for $65? I currently have the same problem with my tf101. And would love to replace it. Right now its just a paper weight.
Disregard, I got all excited a quick Google search lead me to one on amazon. Thank you for the tutorial I will follow once mine gets in and I'll report back!

So I managed to crack my screen today right after waking up and dropping the phone. I looked on Dealextreme and it has a replacement case for the whole phone.
MY question is that does that dealextreme case also include the glass screen. Also is there somewhere else I can just buy the screen?
Thanks.
If I understand correctly it is your digitizer that is cracked..
Replacing the touch digitizer is possible but quite a technical thing to do...

They have digitizer screens for the X10 on eBay:
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=xp...+screen&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313
Get yourself a new digitizer including front cover. Because its really hard to get the digitizer of. It will only cost you 65 on ebay.
I fixed my diamond 2 last time Works perfect now. Not that hard! Take some time and beers
Cheers

Yup ordered a digitizer yesterday for 60 + 15 shipping to canada. I don't trust ebay or paypal much so I pay straight off the credit card. Anything goes wrong I can file a dispute.
I think i 'll buy also a new digitizer because my screen has a lot o scratches. But is there any x10 disassembly video. I searched youtube and i found nothing
It's not really that hard tbh i just replaced my whole phone (case, screen, digitizer) the only thing you need to be extremely safe with is the flex cable to the front keypad.
Heres what phone phone looked like

make sure when you are handling the digitizer, to no touch the back of it. Finger oil is a ***** to take off. Use gloves.

So I left my precious Galaxy Note on the back on my dads truck, the car that he will only drive 10% of the time, and then today he drives it. I go out to get my phone and realize he took the truck. I was like "OHHHHHHH *swear words*!!!!!!!!!"
I went out and looked for it and found it on the side of the rode face down with the screen protector off. I had a simple flip case on it, but I wasn't able to find that.
I am ultra sad right now, but there is a lot of hope.
A strange thing is that the battery was still in it and the back of the phone had absolutly no scratches on it.
I turned it on and I could hear little startup sounds like the new gmail message one
So I guess that is good, but I still have this broken screen .
So the reason I am posting this is because I want to know if I can get it fixed with a kit or something. I am assuming I have to get the LCD and polarizer because the screen is cracked into little bits as the picture showed, and I can pick out each of those bits pretty much.
So much for gorilla glass
Gorilla glass is not for a phone dropping off a moving car....
Also p.m. me I have a spare backing for the note brand new

wait, you left the phone on the back of his truck.....you say that like its normal like one would put it on their dresser or something. So you normally leave your phone in the garage on a vehicle?
Looks like someone ran over it. too many impact points on the glass from pressure applied, rather than the initial smack on the ground.

Do you play a lot of games or hold the device in landscape often?
I'm just spit-balling here, but.. could be oil from your palm penetrating the stock screen protector? or between stock and your screen protector?
Maybe it was there from the start but I never noticed it. Haven't played any games on it or had my finger there.
I really wonder what it is and why you can only see it when breathing on it, when I wipe it clean its really hard to see.
How easy is it to remove the ASF?

I would think it is the coating on the screen protector as well.
As for removing the stock protector, it can be done but by all accounts you will feel like committing suicide halfway through. there is a guide somewhere on here
Well, the thread can be closed because I destroyed the phone :good:
Time to get a new one and put on a screenprotector asap.

removing the anti shatter layer? if so what's wrong?

Good to know you also have it though, so that I wont be bothered on the new unit

So what i thought was initially my home button breaking or wearing out, was actually my screen lifting up. Has anyone seen it this bad?
i can fit my fingernail in there. Would something like this be covered by Samsung? I got the phone at the end of last year. I have even tried putting a dot of superglue in two places and that held for about a day then popped right back up.

if your phone is still under sammy's warranty... it can be a claim of defective workmanship or faulty product. you need to call samsung in texas and find out and send it to them for repairs. here's the number to the tech center: 1-888-987-4357

And if they don't cover it look up a video on how to replace the screen. You should be able to use the same procedure to remove and reinstall it correctly, without superglue. I think it's easier than sending your phone in and not having for a while. Or maybe your service provider will just replace it for you.

Yea im really hesitant on replacing the whole thing. im sure ill get that newer version that cant be rommed. I did find the front part of the phone with the screen, is this what i would need?

price doesnt seem too bad. Id rather not get the kit where you have to glue the screen to the digitizer.

If you send it to Samsung, you'll get the same phone back fixed. If you still have you old Vzw phone, Verizon will turn it on so you can still have service while it's being fixed. but try the Vzw dealer and see what they offer. Likely a new phone if it's still under their warranty, and yes, maybe the model that is locked up. but, towel root works on these phones.

I swore expletives because the eBay auction didn't show any scratches, but I figured I could probably fix this myself. I first started with 600 grit sandpaper.
https://imgur.com/ZiVgatj
Got it to a nice matte finish. Then I did 800, and finally 1500.
https://imgur.com/LaTPHpC
It actually didn't look too bad. So finally I took the polishing wheel to it and some cerium oxide, just like that guide mentioned.
https://imgur.com/gMKE58M
Now this takes a really long time. And actually, I'm not thrilled with how it came out. There's some VERY FINE scratches that interfere with the picture. So I'm really looking for a way to buff out very fine scratches on gorilla glass.
I tested all of this earlier on a nexus 5x because it was dead, and I couldn't even cut the screen with a razor. I have no idea how this phone had scratches, but I had to take a dremel to the thing to even emulate a scratch.
Edit: I'm not sure why my images aren't showing up

Oh, weird. I can't see them.
Either way, I figured out the issue and why this should never be attempted. We have an oleophobic coating on our screens that repel grease from your fingerprints. In buffing out scratches, you wipe away this coating.
Also, I need something more fine than Cerium Oxide to buff out scratches like this. There's a reason all the scratch guides are from 2010 and earlier. It doesn't work well on newer phones.
Oh well, back on eBay
Edit: I guess all the money I waste on eBay is not a waste because I'm learning things. Yeah! That's what I'm going to tell myself

I've...had two with this phone. First, while I was still on the Axon7, I bought a phone for 120 with a crack in it. "I'll just replace the lens over the screen" I thought. I demolished the damned phone trying to get the back off it.
My hands were only meant for destruction, it seems.
To be fair, the Axon7 was great replacing the screen. Two grills needed to come off with a heat gun and I was inside the phone. This phone is a goddamned nightmare to get apart.
Anyway, people more skilled than I generally buy the phones off me, so I lose ~$30-50. Nothing I'm gonna lose sleep over.
