[Q] Flashing rom - data2sd howto? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hi, i am flashing an update of the hariy bean rom, will be doing a full wipe.
I have seen ref to data2sd, have done a search and it seem this fools OS into using the external sdcard for apps.
I believe it formats the external sd card, so my question is, how can you install the new rom if wipe the internat and external storage?
Is the install of data2sd a 2 part process, i wipe and install rom copy new rom to interal memory and then do data2sd install wiping and formatting the external card?
is it really worth doing data2sd?
thanks

There is a lot more to data2sd than that..
You have to have a very fast SDcard with UHS-1 and then you need to partition it with a fat partition and an EXT partition using gparted.
If you don't know enough about it then I would leave it alone mate.

[Q] why do i have to format SDcard?

for an example,
megatron rom requires format of ext partition on SD card.
is it really necessary?
from my understanding you are formatting for A2SD capability.
if I don;'t plan on using SD card as APP space, can I just skip the format step?
thx
Few Questions Rearding Micros SD
So That New Rom can b loaded. i think so
It is not necessary to format and partition your sd card just because a rom has a2sd
capabilities.
If you don't format sd card, a2sd will not be activated.
However, if you want to use a2sd, you will have to format & partition sd card as per instructions.
I have installed various roms (which instructs to format & partition sd card, since they have got a2sd in them) without partitioning my sd card, and have had no problems with them ... *touchwood*...so far
thanks,
I will keep it unformatted then.

[Q] Internal Memory Full - any suggestions?

Hi!
After installing and playing around with some Roms, I found out, that
the internal memory is full.
I have found several informations about handling the internal memory thing - but I don't know which one is the right answer for Legend.
I used app2sd to install/move all apps to SD Card, but the internal memory still gets full.
Then I found a post in which one says that it's needed to make a ext partition on the SD Card to make it work right.
Can anybody tell me, what is the best way of getting more internal space?
I use the [ROM][RC3][24.07.2011] Gingerbread 2.3.3 with HTC Sense 2.1 - which works perfect - only the memory is strange.
I also made WIPE and Factory Reset before flashing this Rom.
Thank you!

best you can use apps2ext by darktremor, i have also used it on this rom and it works
some quick instructions;
-backup your sd card manually in windows/mac/linux, because making an ext partition on your sd card will delete all your files on sd card
-use clockworkmod 3 to partition your sd card, you can chose different sizes (i use 250mb and its enough) and you need only an ext partition ,cwm3 can be found here
-restore your files back on the sd card (previously backuped)
-flash darktremor (link above)
-restart phone
that sould be it
Thank you, workes fine. Should I IDE LOW Memory option?

I have flashed DarkTremor. But how exactly do I know if it is working? I converted my SD Card from ext2 to ext3 and I still can't move applications over. My internal storage space is still less than 20MB. Can anybody offer any assistance please?
Thanks

theres an app on the market which controles darktremor's script, just search for "darktremor" on the market its free, and see what is using your internal memory and if darktremor is even working
remember, your cache is still on internal memory and your text messages etc are to
Blayo's kernel has data 2 ext support so you can run a ext partion as your internal memory. I would suggest a class 10 for it though

out of my experience and the words of TheGrammarFreak (who made the data2ext script for cyanogenmod), data2ext is faster in benchmarks but slow in real use
and a class 4 sd is the best (words of TheGrammarFreak)
so out of my experience don't use data2ext but use apps2ext

[Q] New sd card (D2SD question)

Hello!
I searched the forum but found nothnig like my question.
So, now I have 8gb sd card with 512mb ext4 and I'm running SanGingerAce Lite (newest) with darktremor a2sd. I bought a new sd card (16gb) and I'll partition it to 1gb ext4, now my question is, do I have to reinstall darktremor a2sd script or do I just put the new sd card in the phone and everything will work?
And I noticed that on 8gb sd card which I use now, I can not set dalvik cache to sd (says it hasn't got enough space). I partitioned my sd card with mini tool partition wizard in windows. Should I partition the sd card in clockworkmod?
Thank you for your help

I think.
- do like first to enable darktremor
- If you already partitioned sdcard with mini tool in windows you shouldn't partition again with CWM recovery.
- but If you not already partitioned your sdcard you can use partition sdcard in CWM recovery for alternatively.
- before partitioned sdcard, make sure you has backup your files in sdcard.

sorry for my English

Press THANK if I helped you.
U dont hv to install a2sd script again. But if u hv moved ur dalvik cache to sd, then rebuilt it on internal memory coz if u remove ur sd card ur fone will go in bootloops.
If u hv partitioned ur SD card on mini tool, then u dont hv to re-partition in CWM.

Best practice for formatting internal SD Card?

Hi guys,
I'd like to format my SD car prior to flashing a new ROM as it's all very messy now with tons of random old folders and such. Is there a preferred way to do this such as through CWM?
Also, if i were to format the SD card it would also delete the ROM zip file that i would be flashing. Is installing the ROM zip from my external SD card ok?
Thanks

1. Yes. Just use format internal sd card or (/emmc) option in cwm.
2. Yes, Installing from external is fine, it doesn't make any difference.

wipe internal storage

Quick question here:
In TWRP recovery, if I choose to wipe internal storage, does it mean I only wipe the internal sd card or does it wipe the system ROM also? I am on the latest moded viperX+ TWRP
Thank you.

Yes it will only wipe the internal sd card . If you choose format internal storage, it will wipe everything. SO DON"T FORMAT
If you format interal storage why would that be a problem ?

When jumping between ROMs people generally like to keep the contents of their Internal Memory intact. It used to not really be a problem, because most Android phones had SD cards to act as their internal memory (this isn't technically correct, but you get my drift), and those SD cards would not be wiped when you formatted your system. Now that the phone's internal memory is actually part of the phone's filesystem, though, it requires a bit more effort to ensure you don't wipe out the contents of your "SD card" when formatting the phone.
but isnt internal storage just where photos/music and stuff is stored? yet, certain apps have folders there, and twrp keeps nandroids there, titanium keeps its backups there, but if you KNOW this, you copy these folders to pc first, then format, then copy back those folders and can still restore nandroids or titanium backups, right?
