if he is using 'USB Mass Storage' mode then tell him to change it to 'MTP' mode (which AFAIK is best for transfering large file's) and then try to copy

I'm having issues upgrading from CM9 to CM10...
I downloaded the zip file of the most recent CM10 experimental and when I try to install the zip in CWM recovery it says that no files were found. I can't seem to pull up any of my files on the internal sdcard.
I had no issues installing CM9 or any of the nightlies.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Still doesn't work. I can't even view my folders within the internal sdcard. I just keep on getting the message of no files found..
Any other idea?
have you tried in the option to mount the internal sd card?
Yes I tried but it can't mount..

Is there anything I can do to check into this? I have never had any problems access my internal sd other than this issue...
Maybe you switched the mountpoints in CM9? Can you access your external SD card (if you have one) from the recovery?

Just do it the hard way. I can't think of anything else. Flash a Samsung stock ROM, then check whether the same problem exists there.

When I connect my s3 to the PC I can see the SD card and how much space is left, but when I open it the folder is empty..on the phone I can access it fine!
Anyone know why? And a solution without formatting?

If you can see the files on the phone copy them to the internal SD card and then format it.
Hey guys, I am rooted/unlocked running Jelly'Beans' Build 11 (going to build 12 tonight) and for some reason I can access my SD card while the phone is running normally, but when I boot to recovery it says I cannot mount the external SD to flash a file.
I get around this by just using the internal storage, but this is not ideal. Can anyone give me an explanation of why this might be happening, or maybe tell me how to fix it? Thanks!
either a bad sd card or you need to format the card to fat32.

If it were bad or formatted improperly, would I still be able to access and use it under normal phone conditions? I use it to save my pictures to, and I can access it from the phones file browser as well as when it is plugged into a pc.

cwm recovery does not recognize exfat. you will have move your files to a pc then format the card to fat32 if you want cwm to recognize it.

This method worked for me. I am on a Galaxy S4 SGH m919. I stumbled upon this posting by doing a search. I was having a problem where my SD card is working but it wouldn't mount in recovery, so I couldn't restore back ups, of flash anything. I only had this problem after I had flashed Google Edition 4.3. I still don't know exactly what caused it, but this recovery TWRP did the trick. Thank you so much for helping me out!!

I have almost the same problem. But my phone switches off itself whenever I connect it using a USB Data Cable. It does that on every ROM I use. Whenever I connect my phone to the PC and click on USB Storage option it switches off. And when it switches on I do that and again it switches off.
So every time I have to put something in my phone or memory card I have to Reboot my phone in recovery and then open Mounts and Storage and do the work.
PLEASE HELP.
