I used to have a SE Xperia X8 in the past.
When I started unlocking it I found out that in order to flash a ROM, you sould be rooted, same here with my xt910.
Although in order to flash a kernel you sould have first unlocked your bootloader. The kernel flashing was done with a PC program (.exe) called Flashtool. (You could also change the baseband version using flashtool, which I don't know what it is...)
So, how does it work with xt910?? I've red something about CID, which again, I don't even know what it is ( ), and nothing about bootloader or something.
I would really need some help here!
Thanks!
This device's bootloader hasn't been unlocked yet. And probably never will, if you are looking to flash Roms install safestrap or bootmenumanager, and then read the OPs that should do, you can check some vídeo tutorials at youtube also...

And what about kernels? They are all flashed via recovery?? What a "kexec" is? A kernel, right?
Every kexec ROM brings their own kernel. Kexec bypasses the bootloader lock and loads the kernel con top of the stock one, the only kernel you can flash in recovery is jbx, bit you have to install a kexec ROM first... Check the tutorials con youtube, they are very good...

Check the dev section. There you can find my JBX-Keenwl. It currently works only with 4.2.2 roms. But I am working on 4.3 now.

Thanks a lot!
Two last questions:
1) If I flash jbx, then can I normally run the stock 4.0.4 rom from ss? And if not, is there any way to get to my previous kernel?
2) What CID is all about??

see he re for how to BMM (which you can flash kernels/basebands and more)
CID is a customer ID for keeping you to flash a firmware form other region
With BMM you can backup, erase and restore your CID

There is NO need to play with the CID anymore! But if you think you have to do it anyways, please keep multiple backups of your CID on save place (computer, USB stick...).
Without the backup you will be stuck with bmm/bp tools boot which busts your warranty for sure.

oh yes ive have been waiting for a custom rom
do we not need a custom recovery before we can flash roms
That would be the easier way. But with unlocked bootloader, and fastboot some will be able to flash a system.img.

its not just system that needs to be flashed, boot needs to be flashed also and misc needs to be formatted, but yes its all possible from fastboot, it's just not very noob friendly

We had other Modaco ROMs before any recovery was ported. Advent Vega is an example.
I was just wondering since I looked and haven't found anything.
Has the bootloader been hacked for xperia plays that are not sim unlocked.
If not than this rom is only for the users with sim-unlocked plays.right?
Any news on the advancement of unlocking the bootloader on locked plays.

Hey everyone
I've have a GingerBread Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman and i downgraded the firmware to the version: 4.0.2.A.58
I installed the recovery (using RecoverX) and i've root access.
Booloader is locked.
What do i have to do to be able to install custom roms? (ICS if possible)
Do i just need to download a custom rom and flash through cwm? Or ive to unlock the bootloader install kernel?
Can anyone please point a direction?
Thanks in advance

first you have to root, then you gotta install custom recovery. you have to unlock the bootloader to install a custom kernel but there are quite a few custom roms optimized for the stock kernel/locked bootloader
first, download the doomlords one click root kit, then root, then download se extreme tweaks and select install cwm for 2011 xperia and you'll be on your way! if you need detailed help, pm me!

do you want ics roms or gb roms?
i'm not that into gb roms so i wouldnt know, but the hasa roms are okay.
for ics roms, there is minicmsandwich, real ics and real ics lite. i'm using real ics lite. there are more roms but those are my favorite ics roms.
for ics roms, however, you have to root ics. that's pretty simple.
unpack the rar i attached, run 01-local-prop, follow the instructions, once that's done, flash ics via flashtool but uncheck "wipe data" and that's it. after that's done and you boot into ics, run the 02-push-root-files, and install cwm again via se extreme tweaks. then just flash a custom rom via cwm. easy as that
What ICS rom do you suggest?

You'll need to unlock the bootloader. There are two methods - the test point method (if you don't want to lose DRM keys, TrackID and such Sony stuff) or the official method. Both these methods are available in the FAQ by Someguyfromhell.
Once you do unlock the bootloader, you need to flash either a kernel that's provided in the ROM or another kernel that supports the desired ROM.

I have a question, I have a xperia S (lt26i), and I have allowed bootloader status "no", I have the generic 4.0.4 android world, but hey seen you can install the root cwm and also do not need the boot loader unlocked, having locked bootloader could install cyanogenmod 9?? or any way to get it having locked bootloader without having to flash the kernel?
If this was in the right section you would get your answer a lot faster as a lot of people now ignore question threads in the GENERAL section.

Nope you need an unlock boootloader to boot CM rom

Not yet would be the right answer as some people are working on trying to get custom kernel onto a locked bootloader as this is the thing stopping users with locked bootloaders have cm ://

I read somewhere that putting a generic rom 4.0.4 in specific and having locked bootloader cwm installed, you could install CM9, 9 not 10, because the kernel was compatible with CM9 and did not need to flash another kernel. And would have locked bootloader CM9 with and without flash kernel.
Its possible. You have to wait. check this thread, you can understand.

(even this)
I'm on 4.1.2 currently - Stock - But haven't received the OTA update yet. (My carrier hasn't pushed it yet, sounds like its still a month away)
Is it worth unlocking the bootloader, putting a custom recovery on and flashing a 4.2.2 rom? (Android Revolution as I want the stock experience) Just for the updates 4.2.2 brings?
I've used 4.2.2 on other phones I have (Xperia ZL Stock and Nexus 4 running PA 3.5) so I'm aware of what the stock upgrades are, but what does 4.2.2 bring to the HTC One over 4.1.2? Any improvements?
I want to try Android Revolution but have been hesitant on doing so - I have a Rogers Canada version of the HTC One LTE (Same as AT&T). Am I able to flash International roms like Android Revolution on my phone and maintain LTE?
I am S-ON, but I understand Most roms still use the Stock Kernel correct? So how would I go from 4.1.2 Stock rom to 4.2.2 Android Revolution as far as flashing? Do I need flash the boot.img first? (Doing it with S-ON is what I'm implying, yes I know there are S-OFF methods currently)
Update: I'm now S-OFF, Rooted, Unlocked Bootloader and on Stock 4.1.2 Rogers ROM.
NEW QUESTION
See Post #8
4.2 bring some improvements like native eqs and lockscreen widgets all you need to remember is 4.2 changes the file structure so it is best to backup and wipe before going to it all you need to do is follow the op for arhd and you will be alright

Thanks for the confidence haha.
I unlocked bootloader, Flashed CWM Touch and S-OFF'd using the Revone method.
I didn't realize S-Off was so easy.
Rooted as well.
I work very early (5am) so will try flashing rom tomorrow.
Is there anyway of upgrading the firmware from Rogers to the newest UL? Any help here would be appreciated.
