[Q] Entry in the Open with... - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
My device is Sony PRS-T2 ereader. It's rooted. It has nice stock browser and I want to stick with it. Though i has a drawback, can't download all the file types, even some ebooks inepub format. To add this functionality there's apk https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/55206676/EBookDownloader.apk I use and everything works fine.
When I open a book, popup window appears offering me the choice to open with.. from the apps installed on my eReader, which is completely fine.
Among the apps there's EBookDownloader, I want to remove it from the list, but it should stay installed on the system for the functionality it adds to the web browser.
I think to be able to do this I need to adit EBookDownloader.apk and re-install modified apk, but I don't know what to change. Please, help. Many thanks in advance.

Sorry... brain fart. I was thinking about the other way around. For some reason I was thinking of "Dragon - Naturally Speaking".... more of a dictation app.
My bad for being a jerk .... SORRY!!!
Am I stupid or can no one else find the download for this either. I have tried in the markets and also searching all over google for an apk, no luck.

Anyone try this on rooted stock? In cm7, tts works fine, the kernel on stock is a bit different though. I will try when I get a chance and post results. Just curious if others got it to work.
Thanks a lot.

Can't get it to read an EPUB (non-DRM) on CM7 to save my life. No issue with clipboard reading, haven't tried a plain text file. Moon+ Pro works fine.

I have only CM7, so don't know about stock ROM, but it works on my another custom ROM for Samsung i5801. Also from the Google reports I can see it works on lots of Samsung devices too. I hope it should work for on stock Nook ROM too.

To be honest with you, it has lot of bugs. But before releasing it, I used several non DRM epubs from feedbooks, O'Reilly, Pragmatic and other sources and it worked for them. But if you can send us the sample epub file, I can look into fixing that.
Also the comparison with apps with PRO in name is not ....
Moon Reader is much advanced and supports DRM books too. I needed an application like word player, but which works on my large screen Nook, so I wrote this. Also the main intent of Talking Clipboard is to read webpages, ReadItLater bookmarks, text copied from article in Browser, etc. which no one else supports. EPUB reading is just added yesterday, and I am still working on that.
One Tip: Just unzip the epub book manually, and open the html file, using the read text or html file feature.
I tried to download this and it said that the app is not compatible with my device. What is up with that?
Did not get a chance yet to try, but did just hit the tts button on Moon+ Worked like a charm. Therefore, this should work.

[Q] Post rooting question (before I actually root this crazy thing)

Hey guys, I am about to follow the root instructions found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354487
But before I do it I want to know what features could/will be lost in doing this. Obviously the auto-update (which makes complete sense). But in general I like the interface for now. It has its drawbacks, but I like the built-in mail client and the browser is fine for the most part. In the future I might also want to try ICS on it, but for now I am happy to use the built-in interface.
I really just want to root so that I can side load apps so that I don't have to pay B&N for apps that are otherwise free on the Android Market. That and I have never been a fan of auto-updates. But I want to keep the mail client and I especially want to keep the ability to read their entire digital catalog for free while I am in a B&N store.
Hell I would like to take that a step further and get it to work outside the store if possible. But I would settle for just keeping the original feature. I tried it earlier today and I love that feature.
So I would like to know if I would lose any of those features when I root this device. Does anyone know?
Thanks,
Patrick
When you Root you can still use the stock Nook "Home" launcher. You can install a second launcher and switch between the 2 on the fly so that you have "Nook Mode" and Tablet Mode".
2 warnings:
1) when I rooted and added Gapps, something broke the stock email client and I was not able to find a quick way to fix it.
2) I have not found a way to get Android Market or side loaded apps to show up int he stock Nook "library" so they can only be accessed via the "search" function or my using an Android Launcher with a normal app drawer.
I use the Nook Color App Manager to add sideloaded apps to the stock Nook home screen and/or library. It works great.
There is a detailed artile at liliputing....Do a Google search for: "How to add sideloaded apps to your NOOK Tablet home screen, app library" As a new member I can not post a direct link. Sorry.

Hey guys it looks like the read in store ability works just fine still. I got this device rooted last night. Now iwant to see if this ability can be retained somehow while upgrading to ICS. It would also rock to be able to access the in store readable items from any wiring connection.
Thanks for the help!

[Q] [Request] A desktop to device sharing app

Howdy all.
I'm looking for an app which may not even exist. What I'd like, is to be able to right click a link on my desktop, and be given a choice of "Send to xxx android device." My phone or tablet would then automatically open the link or download the file, without my interaction. A bit similar to the way the browser based market works, but for any site. Ideally, it would also work the other way around, and from device to device. Anybody aware of an app, or a tasker/sl4a method, to do such a thing?

[Q] Share Image With

Before buying my One X+, I used to own an HTC Desire HD.
In the Internet app, whenever I wanted to share a picture (say on Whatsapp, GMail, Viber or any other program) I used to long-press on the image, and from the popup menu, I would select "share image with", then from the new popup screen I would choose the program I want to choose said image from.
Now, with Jellybean, my only options are to:
Save image
View image
Set as wallpaper
or
Share link
no "share picture"
And unless I'm mistaken, this should be bugging a whole lot of other people too, as this is not limited to the Internet app, but the same applies to Chrome (where the only 3 options for an image long-press are "save, open or open in new tab"
Because of this, I now have to save the file, go to Whatsapp or to the Gallery app, select the picture, and share the picture, then when i'm done, i have to delete the pic from the gallery, because well... i don't like to pile up stuff i no longer need.
I searched the forum and the web, and couldn't find a fix for it.
Which is worse, either very little people are raising this issue, or I'm unable to find these posts... everybody with Jelly Bean is suffering from this problem, but Googleing for "share image with option directly from browser on Jelly Bean" doesn't really yield that many relevant results! The keywords are just too generic!!!
So my question is: Can this situation be remedied by some sort of add-on to Chrome Mobile, a custom apk that modifies Chrome's sharing options or something???
PS: I know I can share the URL of the picture, but that's not the point now, is it? I want to be able to share the picture, not its URL.
Update: I just installed Firefox Browser for Android, and it has the option to share an image directly from the browser! It's a pity I won't be using Chrome anymore since it's super fast and it allows for bookmarks sharing between my laptop and phone, but well... I guess I'll have to make do with Firefox for now.
I don't get it though... why would Firefox have the option enabled and Chrome be so retarded that way? Pity! Firefox even has an extension that allows for a full-screen experience, like with the Internet app!
Chrome needs to improve on these basic stuff real soon!!! For many, like myself, not being able to directly share images from the browser is a deal-breaker (as soon as I found a browser that could)

[APP] BrowserShortcut - Use the browser key to open any browser

Hi everyone!
For those of you who want to give some extra behaviour to the browser key on the dock, here's one solution.
Although mod Aroma "kind of" does this, it should be noted that this solution is easier to recover from.
The browser key launchs any apk with ˋcom.android.browser.BrowserActivity´ as main activity, so I made a small app that mimics that.
It gathers a list of installed browsers and prompts a choice to the user; With the help of intents.
You can build it directly within the prime using AIDE, as it was coded in it.
GitHub repository: github.com/bit2shift/BrowserShortcut
In order to install it, you first need to remove the stock browser. Use Titanium Backup or ES File Explorer.
Install the replacement app as usually.
A screenshot of its choice prompt is attached.
EDIT: The google homepage is the URL used to query the installed browsers and start the chosen one. You can change it to something else.
TIP: For some browsers, about:blank does not get recognized properly.
