I will flash the tar file with root built in. Everytime i download rom manager and flash CWM i have a issue where when it reboots says this is not a part of verizon software..
Is there another way to get this installed. I have tried the tar file through odin and it just breaks it and i will to reflash the phone with verizon software and start over,, I have tried the one click methods so far with no luck either.
ideas?
is there a flash i can do that has root and cwm built it a full flash..
Is it bc it has a locked bootloader?
Is it bc i have a locked bootloader still maybe?

Read and search that thread and you will figure out how to troubleshoot. Main causes are usb cables, drivers, and security software. Try some things

Hi,
I have a problem with my Galaxy S2 and I am getting a new one soon. This is going to be a white one so I'm guessing it will have newer firmware and a new boot-loader that I've seen mentioned. I'd like to root, and make sure the custom kernel counter is reset, so I know I need to load a new boot loader.
Can anyone tell me if I need to do this before I root, or after? Basically I think I need to do the following, but maybe I've got the order wrong?
Turn phone on and turn on USB debugging
boot to download mode
use Odin to flash old bootloader from here
Reboot to download mode
use Odin to flash a CF root firmware...
does flashing an old bootloader break anything? For some reason I'm sure I read something about the IMEI being changed by doing... something?

I don't understand why you need to flash in an older bootloader. Try flashing CF root without the old bootloader. If it gives you issues then sure you can try that later.
I'd like to use a USB jig to reset the custom kernel counter to 0.
Yeah that's pretty much it. With regards to the imei that is due to the efs folder being corrupted. This can happen at anytime so it's best to back it up as soon as possible.

Id root first and then flash the old bootloader.Flashing the old bootloader wont unroot your phone either. As far as the EFS backup goes the best that I have found, and use,is the link below.Download the release.zip and follow the instructions.

yeah assuming you're using the stock ROM, Samsung's bootloader likes to revert any modifications you make to the system upon reboot. i've found this out through my own research.
the solution is to flash the gingerbread bootloader, which is here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/72206619/GBBootloaders.tar
flash this through Odin in the PDA section.
you might want to reflash the CWM that you used along with the superuser zip too. just in case those don't work.

I have a Verizon S4 (build VRUFNC5) with locked boot loader. I'm interested in using Xposed Installer but want to have a way to recover if anything goes wrong. So I was looking through different methods and the only one I can find that I think will work with a locked boot loader is using Odin to flash a factory image. However, I just wanted to be sure that it will before I do anything with Xposed.
The files I found to use in Odin are found on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172
Can someone just help me out and confirm that I will be able to use Odin and that those are the correct files I would use.
Thanks

Ok, and I shouldn't have any problems since I used the "over the air" method to update to what I have now? Even though I'm 100% stock, besides root, this method will work to unbrick and wont cause any other issues? Also, one last thing. I can't use Odin to go back to a previous build can I? As in anything before NC5 will cause problems or brick.

Yes, this won't cause any problems as long as you flash whatever your bootloader expects or anything later.
You can't flash back. (FAQ #1).

That bc you are only rooted...
Being rooted dows NOT allow you to install a custom recovery. This requires a unlocked bootloader. You will more than likely have to use Odin to reflash ND7 and then root again

The reason in installed clockwork recovery was I was trying to use the mods listed listed HERE> http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-verizon/development/mod-wifi-usb-hotspot-tethering-t2874035
I got the first warning, ( "System Software not Authorized" ) after installing clockwork recovery.
Next I download 4.4.2 from Sam Mobile and tried using Odin then Kies several times and the warning changed to "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue please select recovery mode in kies and try again".
I think it's a Hard Brick because GhettoRoot is preventing me from flashing 4.4.2.
It was a brand new phone I got under warranty. What should I say when I return it?
( All-together I have # 4 of the note 2's. Two with cracked screens, Also I have One Re-Manufactured asurion and this brand new one that has the software warning )
For a test I tried flashing 4.4.2 on one of the other phone with GhettoRoot, that would not work either.

You need to use Odin and reflash Stock ND7..
I updated that OP with directions when you do NOT have a custom recovery and are only rooted.. This is why it is so important to understand what you are doing, how you phone works, and many other things..

Speaking to the T-Mobile rep this morning the update evidently fixes a bunch of issues using SMS and MMS via the WiFi calling feature. My phone has issues with some people not being able to send SMS to me, and sometimes mine don't get sent. Only sometimes....odd.
Being a noob... is there a way to extract the files necessary to just update the firmware, without losing root and custom ROM?

I got tired of waiting for the bootloader file so what I did was install the full tar with pc odin .this will break root , to regain root I flashed the ne6 kernal , rooted with towelroot and then flashed the nk2 kernel. the kernel files and towelroot link can be found in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-root-s5-firmware-knox-0x0-t2909352

Thanks.. I actually installed via Mobil Odin to update to NK2. Then I attempted to updated the Bootloader to NK2 from the link above. However, it doesn't want to stick. It stays on NH5. I think its a problem with the bootloader file. it should consist of a bunch of files, not just a boot.img file. looking at previous bootloader zip i have shows this.

Hey guys, my Boot.Img is not the bootloader that you are looking for. It is just the boot.img which is the kernel. That is why i created my tut on how to root when you have the latest complete firmware on your phone. Mobile odin will not flash certain files. Go to my thread and follow the steps and you will have all the files installed on to your phone and have root..
I flashed the full update via mobile odin which flashes everything but the bootloader. I've tried flashing yur boot file in pc odin like you said but it never sticks. I've done it twice.

please reread my other thread above yours about my boot.img is not the bootloader.tar that you are trying to install. It is just Boot.img which is only the kernel.
You will have to do either 1 of 2 things,
1- pull the files from the full stock nk2 and create your own bootloader.tar.md5 file
or
2- flash the full nk2 with PC ODIN 3.09 on your computer and then use my method to achieve root.
Ok, is there an easy way to make a boatloader tar?

yeah have a computer with linux and pull the files and create a folder and then use linux command lines to zip- pack- and create a tar.md5.
there might be other ways to do this, Search the forums and internet on exact process,
Okay my problem was that I didn't realize your tutorial was if you installed via pc Odin. Followed your directions and I'm good now. Only thing is when I opened up supersu it crashed, rebooted and then it worked however I never got the question on disabling know. Is there a way to check that it's still disabled?

have you installed a custom recovery or custom rom on your phone, if you have you might have all ready tripped knox and that is prolly why you did not get the prompt for disabling knox.
