Hello!
I have a problem with microphone in my XPERIA sola. When I try to call someone and speak in native phone's position then people can't hear me or hear me very quiet. I have to hold the phone straight to my lips and then people start to hear me.
Sometimes, if I want to record smth, I use RegForge Audio Recorder. It records very quiet and poor sound with microphone, but if I go to options of this program and switch on "Automatic Gain Control" in preferences then recorded audio becomes very clear and good leveled
I tried to insall ALSA libraries and gain microphone that way but..nothing changed a thing.
There are no any physical borders for sound (dust e.t.c) in microphone.
Is there some kind of "Automatic Gain Control" for entire Android system, particulary for SOLA? What I should do to make my mic sound good permamently?
Thanx for any advice.
Artur.

I've had ICS and JB and it seems to be worse with JB. Someone please help.
I've read its kernel related, since the issue varies from one kernel to another.
Is there a way to adjust the mic gain? I'm using experimental kernel v8.7

Hi,
Sorry if this has already been covered but the search function is down right now so I can't check.
So far with Wolfbreak, Ultima and EWjet ROMs, I find that the videocamera doesn't pick up sound very loud at all. When playing videos back, the audio can barely be heard.
The volume is fine in all other respects (youtube/music/ringtone+notifications/in call volume), so the speaker hardware itself is fine - this is specific to the videocamera.
I've tried stock kernels that come with the Roms as well as Doomlords kernel (due to its in call volume fix) but nothing seems to help with this particular issue.
Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone know how to fix it?
All suggestions welcome guys, and thanks in advance....

It's not a speaker issue, it's a microphone issue.
It captures low quality sound apparently.
Maybe someone can make an improvement by tweaking media_profiles.xml and editing the SemcCamera app.
UPDATE:
FYI
So I've now tried pretty much every custom 2.3+ ROM going and it's the same on all of them.
Reverted to 2.1 yesterday and the problem did not occur -
I then updated to official 2.3 via SE PC companion and found this same problem exists even on the official update, so it would seem that no matter what ROM you use, as long as it's 2.3 or higher, you WILL have this problem.
Sorry if this is common knowledge or anything but I haven't been able to find this info anywhere.

Is anyone else having a microphone low volume issue? A lot of people tell me that my voice is hard to hear. It's not a hardware problem, because the microphone it works just fine testing it using the service menu (*#*#7378423#*#* ) or using it with apps. And the problem it's getting worse if I use a custom firmware or kernel.
I suppose there must be a way to adjust the microphone level... There is anyone who knows where I should search? A file or something from the system folder, where a value can be changed?
Thanks.
Hmm, strange.
Can you try with a headset or hands free and use its microphone instead just to see if there's any difference?

I have exactly the same problem with my Xperia Active. Testing the secondary microphone in servece test it sounds better than the primary. Swithing off the noise reduction makes it a bit better, but still lacks of normal volume. I would appreciate any advise to solve it?
Any fix availible for st15i?
Any custom rom i used has the low microphone bug :/
Has anyone managed to make a video call over Skype from Ray without using headphones? I've been facing this problem ever since I got my Ray (4 months already) - looks like the speaker is too close to the mic, and that causes some strong feedback which in turn creates unbearable noise in the mic. Is there any solution to this? And has anyone experienced it at all?
I must note that when I use any headset (apart from original SE Bluetooth set, which is a different problem), the problem is of course gone, because there's no feedback in that case. Also, this problem only occurs on video calls, i.e. only when Loudspeaker is on. If I'm making audio-only call (that is, when sound comes from the earpiece on the phone and is silent enough not to reach the microphone), there is also no problem.
yea, have same thing on my ray. Its all about filters, we have it at our pc's for mic's, u know this noise options ... but i think its to hard for a phones ))
Короче не пруха )
I made several Skype calls using the cam or speakerphone, no problems here.

azz: this is actually trivial and modern phones do it every day. The Ray even has 2 mics on different places which are used to filter out noise from speech. I'm not sure why it doesn't work well on your Ray, though.

You have to turn the nose filtering on yourself though ... or at least it's not on by default in the ICS beta ... been a while since GB for me.
I think I have fixed this, thanks to replies of all of you guys. Try going to:
Code:
Settings > Sound
and turn off the xLOUD setting. I've tried it on three conversations this morning and it seems to be okay, but I'd like to know if you can improve your results too.
Ok lemme see. Iam still trying different rom's on my ray, since ibeats in miui not so perfect, iam taked repack from 4pda to check it and now can test with xloud too, coz in Miui u havent those options
Hi everybody,
i have a speaker issue with my phone. When i play music without earphones, the back speaker doesn't works but when i call and i select back speakers it works. Moreover, when i call somebody, i couldn't hear the man speaking by my front speaker.
I have a Xperia U (ST25I) with stock ICS(4.0.4).

I have the same problem as you!
Don't worry, your speaker is OK. I think you have a software problem. Try to make a factory reset after you back up every important things on your phone. If it still not working, just make a software reinstall with SUS. Should work.

I use the CM10 from Droid Basement and I have the following problems with audio:
1- When using headphones, minimum volume is too loud. When I increase the volume, it goes up only a few steps, and then stays on the same level until maximum volume on the slider.
2- When recording videos with the camera, only left channel of audio is recorded. It probably should merge both left and right since it's mono.
Anyone else having those problems? I work with audio and video a lot and this is a very annoying problem present since the first version I installed of this CM10.
I use P7500.
The first problem is an all around JB bug I think. I had it on AOSP, AOKP, and CM on my s2.

******POTENTIAL WORKAROUND*******
you might want to try the A1 kernel as it includes VooDoo sound. that might work..
1. make sure you get the cm version. it works well for most but i cant get it work.... it freezes me up as soon as my homescreen loads. if you wanna try it.......
2.make sure you have pershoots 11/19 kernel on your sd card so you can flash back if you run into the same problem...
A1 Kernel READ CAREFULLY---- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833136
Pershoots 3.1.10 (11/19) Kernel ---- http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=2906
good luck...report back =)
I am having the same issue. I tried installing beats audio, but it didn't change the volume problem, it did make the sound a little better though. I am hoping this issue is fixed in a later version of cm10.
Also, I am having an issue (i posted it in the forum with no response) of my lockscreen being stuck in landscape mode, even when auto rotate is on. Does anyone else have this same issue?

This has already been fixed in cm10.1 for tab 10.1 and is included in the nightlies.
My problem isn't the same as the OP, but title is the same: CM10 audio problems.
I would absolutely LOVE to use this ROM. I've tried cyanogen on many occasions and been very impressed. My only downfall with CM9 and CM10 was the audio. On CM9, my headphone volume would always reset to a low volume when a new song played. The only way I could find to fix this was via the DSP manager wm989 tab (or something similar) and changing the amplifier level, then changing it back. I never followed up to see if others were having the same problems, so I'm sure it is an issue that was already resolved. I eventually dumped the ROM for another because of the problem, BUT....I digress.
My current problem is on CM10. I love the clean look, I love the speed, the customization....EVERYTHING.....except the audio. I just noticed it a bit earlier while trying to play Youtube videos; the speaker volume was extremely low. I don't see any amplifier settings on the speaker tab of DSP manager. I have audio manager / Hide it pro installed, but all those volumes are at max. I went so far as to remove DSP manager from the system/app folder....but that did nothing useful that I can tell (aside from giving trebuchet a forced close). I installed Beats Audio, but that didn't help. I'm at a loss, and freely admit that I'm struggling to figure out how to resolve this. Would someone please assist? I'll gladly post logs if necessary.....just tell me how to post them. I really want this ROM to work, because it is almost perfect aside from this problem.
