So all of a sudden my phone will not connect to any computer regardless of what usb cord I use. I get a message that pops up in windows that says "USB Device Not Recognized" yet my phone is charging. I've wiped multiple times and reflashed my rom and still no luck. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers but it didnt do anything. Could someone please help asap? I really need to be able transfer a ton of files to my sd card from my computer.
Sorry but you'll need a card reader, seems like your USB port is damaged.

Try to go back to stock or to ROM that you have check that it works and check if the problem is still there

I have noticed that some ROM's will enable debugging, I personally run a MAC. But you may want to check those settings to see if its enabled/disabled. But if your charging on it you should be good. Have you tried to odin back to stock and seeing if that helps?
Other thing: do you have the samsung drivers installed on your PC? even if you don't you should still see the external storage just not the internal.

What rom are you using? If you are running one of the test CM7 builds you have to download the Google drivers from the Android SDK.
Does your phone show up when you mount it as external memory? Did you install the drivers and kies as an administrator?

I am having the exact same issues as the OP! Except that i have the unbranded gt-i9000. My galaxy s is completely stock, no custom firmware or launchers. Heck, after the last factory reset, not even any apps!
I have tried every suggestion on every search i could do. I have 4 computers with xp sp3, win7 sp1, ubuntu 10.04.1, and mac os x 10.5.8. Nothing is working on any of them. I've even tried different usb cables, just to rule that out.
Could it be a samsung hardware issue?
Hello, I'm trying to connect my s5830 to my PC; Phone and computer beep like they are working, but it keeps giving me a "USB device Not Recognized" message. (it does charge by the way)
As per my previous research, this is what i've tried so far:
- On other computers, windows 7 and xp, same message.
- replaced usb cable, same message.
- factory wipe, same thing.
- cache wipe, wont run(?) - maybe this is a clue?
Its running on stock 2.2.1 firmware with no mods, not even extra apps. I actually have another s5830 (from a friend) and it works fine when i connect it to my home computer (windows 7) or my laptop (windows xp)
Any ideas of how to solve the problem? Thanks in advance.
Delete your drivers, reinstall kies and reconnect.

Delete the usb driver, uninstall kies then restart your pc.
After restart, dont plug your phone to the pc yet. Install kies.
After installing kies, plug your phone and let kies detect it.

Just CONNECT to another USB port.
If its not helping and like I see you have same problem with other PC-s too, then I think its your phone HARDWARE problem. Bring it to SAMSUNG service.

I'm facing the similar problem too. Kies on my pc couldn't detect my SGA. N there's no "usb connection" n " usb debugging" icon appear on my SGA. What actually is the problem?
I had this problem after upgrading kies the solution was inside kies under tools there is a install driver option kies then loaded what I presume are newer drivers and it worked
i tried install driver for a few times. the problems remain unsolved! i connect my SGA to pc, the only thing it can do is charging...

My seem irrelevent... but you may want to check your permissions for USB... may be the USB permission has been turned off.
Try using any externel drive see if it works.

I can see that i did my first post about this issue in the wrong forum proberbly, so now i try here instead...
I have a small problem with my X10i.
When i try to go into flash mode, no matter if it is with SEUS or PCC i get "hardware is not recognized" from my computer.
I have now tried on 5 different computers, all witch all can fine connect to my x10 mini, but all of them will not recognize my x10i...
I have tried all i can think off, i have tried to remove the "unknown hardware" from the computer, and many other things...
nothing works...
I have an old Trip version MIUI on the x10...
Actually i have just discovered that even if i try to mount usb storrage (the sd-card) in xrecovery, i get the same "unknown device"...
Not even when miui is started i can connect to my sd-card...
When the X10i is in flash mode i do not get the "SEMC USB Flash Device Detected", i get "unknown device detected" instead...
- and it fails to install drivers...
Pleace can you help me to solve this problem ??
Try the drivers included with flashtool.
Open your flashtool folder.
Open the "drivers" folder.
run "ggsetup-2.2.0.10.exe"
Leave your phone plugged in during installation.
No guarantees.

On 2 of the computers i have tried today, i did download the latest SEUS and on the rest i allready had SEUS and PCC installed...
All of the computers are able to connect to my X10 mini (and my HTC Desire HD).
I have tried 3 different usb cables also...
At last i have also tried to unmount the sd-card as described...
I even can´t mount usb from within xrecovery...
But the phone works, and can be charged fine enough....

can you take out your sd card and put it directly into your computer to see if it works?
and try uninstalling SEUS, then plugging it in

I can use the memorycard just fine in my computer, no problems at all...
2.
I have now tried to uninstall all S/E software and also the drivers, looked at all usb drivers and removed every one that had anything to do with S/E, cleaned the computer with cclean, rebooted the computer and then connected it again to the phone...
But still just after i plug in the phone i get a "unrecognized hardware" fault message...
I have then tried to install SEUS again, but still the same error...
The phone dont eigther show any usb-connection in the status bar at any time...
BTW...
I have never had any connection problems with this phone before...
So thats why i think that something has happened to it...

if you find a fix, let me know cause I have the same problem. Three different pc's (1 win7, 2 xp)...reinstalled kies...changed roms. Been using wifi explorer...but still annoying

is the usb debugging ticked? if it is untick it
Unticked ... Even if don't have drivers i should be able to connect it as a mass storage ...

Have you tried ticking usb debugging and connecting in mass storage mode?
Do you have Clockworkmod recovery?
If so boot into it,
plug your phone into the computer
go to the mounts menu
hit mount usb storage
The internal storage should mount as mass storage.
I've tried to flash rom with odin but even here pc can't recognize the device
Do you think it worth sending device to 3 (three) uk repairs ?
Have you tried mounting the device from within recovery?
If that also doesn't work you may have a dead usb controller.
Also, you should try using a different cable.

I just had a similar problem today with a friends SGSII managed to solve the problem for her by going into kies and in options reinstalling the drivers, it took about 15min for the pc to complete but now it works

Flash back you mean with ODIN ? if so device can't be recognized in that programm too .. The only thing i can do is "hard" reset and it didn't help at all ...

I've got a Galaxy Tab P7510 and when I connect it to USB to my PC, it installs the drivers for the GT-P7510 - Success, Samsung Mobile USB Composite Device - Success, and then it starts to install Samsung Mobile USB Modem, gets to 100% then says Failed. And when I try to use Kies it endlessly says "Connecting" I've tried reinstalling Kies, debug mode on and off, reinstalling the drivers, rebooting my PC inbetween etc etc. I can't even get ODIN to detect it on COM while its in Download mode even though on screen on the Tab it says its ready. Trying to do anything in ODIN though results in no successes and no fails.
Can someone help me with this please

Trying it on a laptop now.
Managed to get it to work fine on a laptop, The problem is that the SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem driver install always fails on my PC. Why is this!?!?!
No Idea why it failed but drivers do fail from time to time installing in some cases.

And search for the USB drivers in this or the gt-i 9000 forum. I never ever use kies even it is similar to my name
