[Q] Omega Rom - Mobile Data hangs the phone - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I am using omega 4.2.2 latest built. The phone gets stuck/hanged whenever I connect mobile data. Sometimes it works fine but stucks when I use twitter or Facebook app.
Why is that so?
And can I downgrade to omega 4.1.2 ?

Try a different baseband
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4

Don't know much about the basebands. I think every rom has a different baseband. So you mean try some other rom ? Stock or custom ?

Alright did some research and yes I got the idea. Its baseband problem. I am gona try XXEMC6.
But can I downdowngrade from jb 4.2.2 to jb 4.1.2 after a full wipe?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Why are you downgrading the rom? I said try another baseband. Not try another rom.

Because I cannot find any other than XXUFME7 baseband for jb 4.2.2
I thought it came with only one baseband.
I checked wanamlite and omega. They both come up with XXUFME7.
Can you recommend some roms ?

My point is you can use ANY baseband. It is not tied or related to the ROM in any way. There's hundreds of basebands available to flash in the general forum.

Now you are making sense. So I had to install the rom first or the baseband first then any rom?
Baseband and a kernel is the same thing ?

Please follow the link in my signature to general > sticky roll-up thread. Read "Understanding the basics before rooting". I put a lot of effort into answering all your questions in advance there. Please read it, you'll find it very informative.

Changed my kernal using omega v47
No freezes anymore. The 4.2.2 kernal is so unstable.

You are on the old basband and that's why you get unknown!
So you can check out dk.notor tutorial on how to change the basband or go to the first page in the generalCM9 topic and folow the instructions(can't provide links now but you should be able to find them)

Bro, how do we check if we are on old baseband or new baseband..?
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
And how to switch to new baseband...?
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
God i told you what topics to search for and you can read them.
If you had any rom except these ones cm7Nightly/cm7.2 N-series/cm9/official lg 2.3 then you are on old baseband and you have to move to the new one-read how.

K.. thanks paul.

Good luck, also don't forget to put franco3.0 testing kernel if you decide to stay on cm9-it will perform better-you can also find it in the first post on generalCm9 thread

It doesn't matter wich you do first

I don't want to be mean, but I think you should stop asking so many questions and have some faith in yourself
If you follow the instructions in that thread, you will have the new baseband in no time.

How to install cm9 on sgs2 gingerbread?

Just a question. There are numerous sites on the internet that tells you how to install cm9 on sgs2. Others say that you dont need to flash a leaked ics. Others need you to install . Please help thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Go by the guide on CM9 website. I played it safe and flashed the tar version via PDA in odin. Once that's installed you can then update to latest nightly. I've never had any issues with that process. All the best.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
So sir did you install first a leaked ics or not? Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Erm not sure I'm a bit of a flasher- holic. More than likely I was on a 4.0.4 based custom rom. If you do full wipes and format system then flash via odin I'm sure you will be fine as that's what I did. Please read CM9 guide though.

I went from stock GB to CM9 nightly without any problem
Well done mate

Sounds as it could be an issue with the graphics/Mali drivers.
Maybe you should read the ROM thread and flash another ROM as long as this problem is not solved.
Good luck !
I tried flashing rootbox ROM and ressurection remix but the screen is still smaller. Any suggestions?

Siyah kernal didnt have the new Mali drivers that some of the jelly bean ROMS needed. Try flashing this kernal : its based on siyah with latest Mali drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617219
Edit : you need the version with new Mali (Dorimanx 7.4) direct link : http://dorimanx.shine.sk/kernels-jb/Kernel_Dorimanx-V7.4.2-JB-MALI-17-11--25-10-12-SGII-PWR-CORE.zip
Does the kernel work with root box jb 4.1.2?

Installing jelly bean

I have a rooted galaxy s2 with an xwlp7 kernel. The jelly bean rom i saw was 4.1.2 XXLSJ. Will this work with my kernel?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
The kernel you currently have has no relation to a different ROM which has its own kernel.
Or to directly answer your odd question, no, your current non-JB kernel certainly will not work with a JB ROM.
But if you mean you want to install the JB-leak (or didn't you mean that?): that is possible. Your current kernel will be replaced.

Yes I meant the leaked version. Was just wondering if it can be done before attempting.

Yes that is possible. You can flash the official one, or one from a developer (I personally would recommend Neatrom). Good luck.

It's always worth updating, yes. Newer releases have newer fixes.

Will the fw be fine to flash as when I started the download it said it was for turkey. Lol
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Yes you can flash for any country so long as the model is correct. MD3 isn't even the latest anymore. ME2 is (which you can download for Netherlands or Norway).
You'll lose root when you flash Via Odin.
Any particular reason you won't go for something like Wanam Lite ROM, flash through recovery?
Still a sort of noobie...not really had the guts to flash any rom yet
Rooted but on stock XXEMC2

As a rule of thumb,
"Galaxy SIII Android Development" contains:
Samsung TouchWiz based custom ROMs
Unofficial CM, AOKP builds
"Galaxy SIII original Android Development" contains:
Samsung Kernels
Official CM, AOKP (AOSP) builds
AOSP Kernels
