I have read that this might improve reception and battery life so I'm very much interested in matching that two to my phone.
I'm currently on temasek's 4.3 rom.
I live in Israel and ny provider is Orange.
I tied using getIRL but... I couldn't make it work.

I flashed a modem from that thread but GetRIL still tells me my RIL and baseband dont match
You cannot and must not flash a modem + ril on aosp roms. You cannot and must not use getril on aosp and regardless, worrying about rils us pointless and makes almost no difference.
On samsung roms, only bother looking into rils if you're having serious issues. Otherwise ignore.
Aosp roms use openril. Do not do anything about rils on aosp roms

the thing is, i get a lot of wakeclocks for reception related stuff. How can I solve them?
If better battery stats shows clearly that, change just the modem, without ril (in aosp Rom if you change the ril you won't have any reception/call at all) as long as you don't have the proper result.
Be sure it's not an app providing this flaws.

greenified everything that could have done that. I dont have many apps either. still, i don't know what modem I need and where I can download it since all I've seen is for 4.1.2.
By the way Im on 4.2.2
It doesn't matter. Try all modems (without ril). Modems are not tied to rom versions

Please help me
I was running Omni rom on my Galaxy s3.
I changed it to omega rom v46.1.
After I did that, I noticed my simcard wont read on my phone but would work perfectly on other phones....no simcard will read on my phone and I will just get an error message saying "not registered on network".
I downloaded GetRil and found out that my baseband and Ril do not match and I knew that this could be the only cause of the problem.
My Ril is I9300XXLE8
My baseband is I9300XXUFME7
Can someone please help me find the Ril that would match my baseband version.
THANK YOU!

Hi Everyone! As a part of the usual process when I'm flashing a new phone, I start reading the forum to see what I can and cannot do. Believe it or not, this is the first android device that I own, every other phones weren't just mine. Now, I have two simple questions:
I've flashed some other phones, but in those I've never had to deal with modems or basebands (except from the nightmare called iPhone ), I wanted to know, the roms come with their own Basebands and Kernels or I have to flash'em separately when upgrading to a new rom, OR I can use deriberatly the modem that works best? I ask this because so far I haven't seen any indications on the ROM threads and I saw the compilation post of Modems
As of the kernel I'm not so worried, I'll simply use Siyah's kernel
Thanks!

Thanks for the answer, but I didn't explain myself. I saw that thread, actually I mentioned it above. I will have to test the various basebands, I live in Venezuela and there's no recommendation on the map for my country.
Now, resuming and explaining myself better, I just wanna know if Roms have their own Baseband and Kernels included (or just baseband for instance), and if there's any Baseband requirement on the roms -- Obviously there are Kernel requirements.
Thanks!

They come with their own kernel and you can flash over that. Fairly certain they don't have a modem but don't quote me on that. You have to get a Sammy modem for a Sammy ROM and a aosp modem for an aosp rom

For clarification, the only difference in the actual modem from aosp to Sammy is the install script. The modem itself is identical.

Just to clarify this. Some roms have Aroma installer which gives various options or features to flash with your rom on the initial install. Depending on what the developer includes, different kernel and modem choices are possible.
hello fellow xdas
while back i had gotten my hands dirty with the CM10 project as i just couldn't wait for the official update! i learned quickly that i had serious problems with antenna/reception. i tried carious base bands (as recommended on forums) using GetRil/flash.Odin. this didnt seem to help, even though i would get better reception, my signal was unstable. In the process i tried other roms like JellyBam and had the same issue.
As this is my main phone and i do actually need to call with it, i went back to the stock rom i downloaded. but surprisingly i still have the same issue! GetRil also shows that i have incompatible RIL/baseband. this is what it shows:
RIL: I9100NELP2; I9100XXKI4
Baseband: I9100XXLPQ
FYI: i am located in the Netherlands and use T-mobile network.
so have i installed the wrong ROM or done something wrong in the process... ? does anyone have any experience with this? i much rather have CM10 but only if i can get to call normally once again?
thanks

Use either of the 2 links below to download either the NELP2 modem of the XXKI4 modem, and them flash them onto your phone via Recovery Mode. That should resolved your incompatible RIL issue.

thanks a lot zee54,
can i just go back to my CM10 or JellyBam, install the above mentioned radios and get everything working? or does it depend on the RIL which that ROM is running! I have tried a number of modems when i had CM10, but dont know if i tried those... i did try BVLP7 for sure

The modem is independent of the ROM, mate. So it wont make much of a difference whether you install the radio on stock firmware or on CM10. You could try using the modems mentioned by zee54 with CM10 and seeing if it helps. Also, give it about a day or so..since the phone tends to take a while to get 'used' to a new modem.

The unstable signal or "RIL Crash" as it it called isn't actually caused by having an incompatible RIL and Baseband (modem). It is a more complicated issue which I don't fully understand myself. But what I do know is that it currently affects all customs roms that are based on CM10 and use the CM Kernel. So switching modems might help recude the frequency of the problem but probably won't irradicate it completely.
You should not experiencing this problem if you go back to stock samsung firmware. If you experience problems you might want to do a full wipe (Data, Cache, Dalvic-cache) before reflashing and fix permissions afterwards.
On a more positive note, I have found that using the Siyah Kernel with your custom rom does seem to eliminate this problem, or at least reduce it occurance to such that I have not noticed it happening.
So personally i would suggest that if you wish to go back to CM10 or JellyBam ROMs, then do so but also install the latest Siyah Kernel for the S2 from here http://www.gokhanmoral.com/
(Here's the XDA Thread for the Siyah Kernel - [KERNEL] SiyahKernel v4.1.5 (v5.0a2))
I am currently running CM10 with the Siyah Kernel v5.0b2 and it is working very nicely
great stuff guys... 2x thanks for both of you!
Zeey54, i just had Siyah v5 Kernal installed, installing the latest JellyBam right now! so lets see what happens. i was suspecting that beside the RIL/baseband there were other factors as i did not see any significant difference between them. but then again i dont trust my judgement on such issues as my knowledge is quite limited.
will send an update with the result after installation in a few min.

installed the BOLP7 modem, overall reception is much better! data connectivity is also better and faster. but i still have some periods which my receptions drops and goes back up, seems like radio/modem crash (if im right). dont know if that is due to the kernel or modem or ...?
the reason i went for BOLP7 modem was because the latest official stock rom from t-mobile Netherlands was I9100BOLPM_I9100TNLLP8_I9100BOLP7, so i thought that would be the best one to try!
will wait a little more to see if this improves as the modem settles.
4th official ROM too much coverage you please make a review ?
need modem
First of all, thank you mate for your hardwork and awesome utility.
I have a Samsung galaxy S2 I9100G , recently flashed jelly bam custom rom. I am based in Saudi Arabia, the reception is not clear and people complain that it is switched off or out of network. I tried calling with another mobile and i got a response that my mobile is switched off, at the same time i checked my S2 mobile , it shows the full signal of the network in status bar.
what should i do? Which modem should i flash. the getRIL shows RIL/baseband is matching (I9100GDDLP5).
cheers
Rizwan
Hey guys.... I know that modem depends on which country/network you are etc.....
But for 4.2.2 (valilla rootbox) has anyone the ril files? Cause Probably I have messed it with not-so compatible and have large amount of battery drain if I have data on.... I saw somewhere something about openril etc but wasn't able to find anything more.....
Any help is acceptable
Thanks...
Open ril is what cm put into there rom so everyone followed. Don't change the ril as this will break calls/texs/data. I find that 4.1 has better battery on rootbox. Try that and see what you think
Look in the first few (say 5) posts of the unofficial slimbean thread by fusionjack. There you will find a link to a RIL /radio cleaner by codeworkx. That will clean any unwanted nasties and flash XXLS8 modem. Definitely worth flashing if you think your RIL is messed with.

Hi and Merry Christmas everyone.
I have a little problem I am hoping that you might be able to help with.
Little history - this phone was stock until today because Samsung update killed the phone (everything was FC, and reflash, format etc, didn't fix it! Damn you Samsung for ****ty build!!)
Anyway - this is the fifth phone I have Rooted and Flashed to custom ROM - so I kinda know what I am doing, but this one has stumped me a little (wasn't doing this one because I used for Work, and it was under Warranty - out of warranty now anyway, so.... just forced my hand to root/upload custom ROM it)
Every Time I do a new ROM install I wipe the Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik Cache, Backup EFS folder, and Format System (this is the way I did it with all my phones, and the way I was taught to get really stable working ROM).
I am in New Zealand with an GT-I9300 (nice Red Brand) - brought from DickSmith, Unlocked.
The problem I have is that when I install a custom ROM from here (so far I have tried three), I keep getting the "Emergency Calls Only" issue and the Phone won't manually connect to my phone carrier (New Zealand - 2Degrees).
What I have done to look over the issue so far is:
1) Installed Recovery cwmtouch-6.0.3.2
2) Installed CM10 Final cm-10.2.0-i9300 - tested to make sure phone was working okay based on CM10, worked fine - can make calls, and stock CM10 working perfect. The Baseband Driver is 1930BUUGMJ3, and the IMEI is 3539********** (so everything okay there)
Build number: cm_i9300-userdebug 4.3.1 JLS36I dfd0cbed2d test-keys
*#1234#
Doesn't work on CM10.... Dialer Codes don't work on CM10 - blah!
3) Installed S4 Revolution v11 ROM. Since this was already using 1930BUUGMJ3, I didn't flash the MG4 that's included in the ROM installer. Everything working as expected, however I am always getting Emergency Calls Only. Confirmed Baseband Driver is 1930BUUGMJ3 and the IMEI is 3539********** (so I would think everything okay... but no - will not connect to my New Zealand Carrier).
*#1234#
AP: i9300XXUGMJ9
CP: i9300BUUGMJ3
CSC: unknown
4) Re-flashed this ROM, and this time replaced the modem driver with the MG4. Again all working fine, but still no Carrier connection.
5) I installed the ROM Android_Revolution_HD-SGS3_40.0 - it replaced the Baseband Driver with the 1930BUUGMJ3 again, and the IMEI is 3539********** (again no change), and once again this didn't work.
*#1234#
AP: i9300XXUGMJ9
CP: i9300BUUGMJ3
CSC: i9300OXAEMC2
6) Rebuild back to CM10 - everything working again.
The one thing I am noticing (not sure if this is the problem - but just adding the differences I see) when I use the IMEI check (*#06#) with this ROM (and Revolution) I notice that the IMEI SV is showing (/11) at the end of it - So it is 3539*********** / 11. However, with CM10, it isn't so is only 3539***********
(however, when I look at Status - it has the IMEI showing without the IMEI SV, and the IMEI SV shows in the IMEI SV row).
So this probably isn't the issue either.
Serial Number is the Same also - so that hasn't changed.
The Device Status is Custom for CM10 and this ROM - so nothing changed there either.
So I am a bit stuck now, I don't know where else to go - because I was going to manually update the Modem, but, I don't think that is the problem since the Driver seems to work okay with CM10. And more importantly, I am a little worried about just flashing random stuff on the phone without having some clear understanding on what I am flashing. So don't want to just flash for the hell of flashing - so if someone has some guidance that would be helpful.
Can anyone else give me some ideas on this?
Might try ariza or modems patched zuluman http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918601

Hi
Thanks fr the suggestion however I am not really sure if this is the right thing to be using based on what I have stated - for example, the version of ROMS I have already tried flashing.
I read over in [REF] IMEI / EFS - Know this stuff (i9300) - including "no network" about this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2393289) which stated the following
How does "Ariza patch" fit in to this?
Ariza patch does not fix IMEI issues. It fixes "00000" Serial number issues, which has similar symptoms. This patch does not work on EFS v2 ROMs. If you use it, you may irreparably break your phone.
Also it would seem, Phones that had this patch ON EFS v1 ROMS will break their IMEI if they upgrade to EFS v2 ROMS.
As yet, there is nothing proved to resolve this issue fully. Search the Ariza thread for posts by zuluman for potential fixes. This Page is hopefully the most useful or one of the patched modems posted
It would probably be best to get the serial number professionally restored either under warranty or by sla mobile repair shop. The Ariza patch was always only fixing something that should have been fixed under warranty anyway.... now we are seeing this issue - cut your losses

My Serial number hasn't gone to 0000. It is different to the serial number that CM10 uses... but it isn't 0000.
My understanding is that CM10, and the ROMS I have tried are EFS V2 ROMS (since they use the new Modem Driver). Therefore this could possible make things worse?
serious a problem If you conducted a downgrade. the CM rom not change the modem, maybe that's why after I install a CM even you have signal. maybe your problem is you do not sign up with any modem or modem change causes something weird that makes you lose the signal.

JellyYogurt: Sorry I am confused then, because people were stating in many threads that some people have possible screwed up their EFS - and my understanding is that the new Modem is what upgrades the EFS not the ROM. (also not sure why there was !!!! not sure it was required, since I am asking for help in the HELP and TROUBLESHOOTING section of this forum)
I might be wrong, but this is kinda what I am reading on the threads in the ROMs about people who are having No Network issues also.
I have tried to use that plugin however it doesn't work (always downloading) so I am going to look for the patch they are talking about and try to run that.
mojonx0droid: I haven't done a downgrade - I have used CM10, and that has worked fine. Then I tried the two roms I have suggested, and both have had the same issue where it won't find the network anymore. I can revert back to CM10 and it works fine again.
Also not sure what you mean by Signing up to any modem changes? As stated, my Modem appears to have updated already, and I have also tried using the Modem's that are included in the ROMs supplied.
CM10 is working fine, it is only the ROMs I have tried on here which are having the issues.

Hey mate,
Are your really certain with that? I have a similar problem, messed up my EFS partition and lost my EFSv1 Backup files, but at least I could successfully restore the EFSv2 files. Unfortunately I did not Backup my i9300's original EFS state.
Now I cannot unlock the SIM card anymore when running AOSP-based roms und when booting with no SIM card inside there's a strange serial number.
A few days ago I was starting to think if AOSP-based roms aren't compatible with EFSv2 (yet?). It would be good to know if this actually is the problem.
You don't know a way to convert EFSv2 files back to EFSv1, do you?

In fact I think you have just hit my problem....
As stated the whole reason I have gone custom ROM is due to the fact that Samsung update failed to update on my phone (flashed okay, but all applications afterwards were giving FC, including TouchWiz, etc, etc. Did factory resets, the works, but nothing worked.)
However, after that CM10 worked fine, but everything here hasn't worked so far.
Could it be ... maybe. that the original Samsung update upgraded the EFS to V2.
Is there a way for me to tell if EFS is on V2 or V1?
If it is V2 - then I know the problem, and then I will just have to use Custom Roms which support V2 (which my understanding is CM10 and CM11 - but I might be wrong).

There's an app called GalaxSim Unlock. Download it from the play store and start it (needs root).
If it tells you your phone is updated to a new system not supported yet it should be EFSv2.
Search XDA for EFS repair... You should find a giant topic that might help you. Unfortunately it didn't work for me anymore...
And by the way, CM is an AOSP-based rom so it will only work with EFSv1. If you have lost your EFSv1 you can run Samsung original roms, Samsung leaked roms and Samsung-based custom roms...

Thanks you J_Dee
This is it - the Samsung Update Over The Air upgraded the EFS to V2, this is why I am having issues with the AOSP on here which are not upgraded to V2 EFS.
And if CM is an AOSP based Rom how come CM10 works fine? (In fact I have just reflashed back to CM10 and it is working fine - and confirmed that GalaxSim is giving the same Device updated Error)
So it appears CM10 is using EFS V2???

I included these in my first post - but right now my Baseband Version is
I9300BUUGMJ3
It had changed a couple of times based on the ROM installed at the time.... and if I picked the MG4 modem.

And that is now confusing me from some of the stuff I have read. Is CM10 doing something that other people are not doing in their ROMs?
Is there other CM10 roms I can test that you suggest?

Okay - then I am even more confused - why does CM10 work fine - however so far none of the other ones I have used work?
I would continue to use CM10 - however all the Samsung Software has now disappeared... S-NOTE for example - ones I was using.
I am thinking of giving SentinelROM v6.00 a try - since it was based off the CM11 Code, however, that still doesn't give the Samsung software again. Also looking for EFS repair stuff to see if I can work anything out there.

That is what happened - Got the update for S3 sent from Samsung to my phone and it stopped my phone working. I was getting FC on all applications.
Hi There. I've got to the stage where I want to experiment with a couple of different ROMS however alot of ROMS I have seen don't specify what Modem they are compatible with? I have a MK6 modem. Can I use any ROM or ONLY MK6 specified?
Thanks
Any 4.3 sammy rom...
Roms don't necessarily come with modem.. The number you see is mostly the build number...
Aosp ROMs are not affected by modems..

As he says, personally I wouldn't recommend changing modems unless you have an issue with your current one, as it can cause more problems than it resolves.

If you're particularly nervous about it note down your baseband from the settings -->about phone menu and that way you can reflash the same modem after you've flashed a new rom. Chances are that it won't be touched by the rom though.
