I couldn't seem to find the answer to this searching the forums. do I need to use odin to flash back to stock? or can I just flash the stock rom via custom recovery? I apologize if this has been answered but like I said I could not find the answer.
thanks

Top thread in the Development section.

I read through that thread... the question I have is if its possible to flash with using custom recovery or must i use odin to flash the stock rom... That thread just tells you how to use Odin ...
You could flash a stock ROM, but it will still be rooted. The only way to fully go back to stock is to use Odin and then Triangle Away.
thanks!! that was all i wanted to know. i still want to be rooted but thinking of going back to stock rom... i have tried a few roms and don't seem to get great battery life as i did with stock. I love CM 10 but I use the s-note feature constantly throughout the day and miss having it.

There's lots of cool ROM's similar to stock such as Clean, Tweaked, JellyButter, and Beans. If you want to retain stock features use touchwiz ROM's not AOSP ones such as CM.
If you click the link in my sig, there's a list of all ROM's for our phone, separated into Touchwiz and AOSP categories. If you just want a rooted stock ROM, use the one called "Stock/Root/DeOdex SCH-I605VRAMC3".

Use GMD s-pen control ( paid app but worth it) and papyrus. That's what I use and it works perfectly. You lose the ability to do math problems with s-note, but you gain customization and gestures. Works quite well together IMO.

Just use recovery to flash a stock rom...beans has a stock vramc3 .zip rom posted in the dev section. Going back to stock via Odin is only needed if you are returning the device or soft bricked.
cool... Thanks everyone for the help. I have been messing with android phones forever but have had a hard time finding the best rom for the note. i will play around a little more tonight and see what one I like best before i go back to stock rom. I liked the jelly bean rom but there were a couple of bugs that i couldn't get past. i never got liquid to flash correctly.

I want to know good ICS (android 4) custom ROM for my galaxy s2. Please tell me if you use fantastic ROM.
Love ICS
I must say that I have really liked the move to ICS. I have found it nice and smooth, and the battery life is great for me.
Although I have been a big user of custom ROMs and kernels in the past, both with the SGS2 and the Tab, in the case of ICS I have not felt the need to move off stock. As per my signature, I currently run stock LPQ with the LPQ CF-root kernel and it is working well for me (other than a cifs problem with my network drive at present). I will move to the Australian (non-carrier) ICS when/if it arrives, and give it a try.
Jacko
PS: I have added the Apex Launcher which I also like very much.
Stop being lazy & try a bunch of ICS roms till you find one you like :-| No excuse for not doing so given how simple/quick it is to flash a rom in CWM & also to backup/restore.
I can recommend CM9 Works perfect
I recommend Koud AOSP 4
I'm on this from now and my internet is faster than its ever been.
For some reason this from doesn't come with a file manager I recommend astro or ES. I got astro.
Haven't had it long enough to comment on battery life.
It does NOT have root but it does have clockworkmod recovery so you can easily go back to your old rom if you made a nandroid backup. You can easily root the ROM with Odin with LP6 kernel from chainfire search chainfire lp6 on xda to download odin3 and LP6 kernel.
The thread has instructions to flash the kernel.
If you don't like using Odin or any similar programs or don't know how to or can't get to a PC right now
I recommend Pure ICS v7.1 or newer if its been updated.
This one is rooted.
Battery life is pretty good.
Its looks almost the same as koud aosp but they do have there differences. I think the other one is faster and more smooth UI. Although pure ICS is still a great ICS copy I used it for weeks before I found koud aosp.

It is Extremely stable. Why not just download it, use Odin to put it on your Note, then use Odin to Root your Note? That is what I did and things work fine. Just be sure to save anything you would like to keep because it will be gone afterwards. It is recommended to remove the memory card but it didn't delete anything off mine.

Sorry I wasn't following that part of the situation. I would say either look up on Google for a way to do it, or use someone else's computer. I live in Ohio haha you could use mine if you were not far from Ashtabula lmao
The safest and most stable way is to download the .exe on the computer and run it. Download the cwm .tar file. Then use odin to run the .tar file to get cwm. Download the superuser .zip file and drag it into your microSD card. Then get in to recovery and do a backup to see if it works. If so, from recovery menu, flash the superuser .zip file from your microSD. Bam, ICS UCLE2 stock rooted. Remove bloat and get Apex launcher and its smoot sailing and stable.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
I'm just surprised nobody has made a cwm version yet. Ever other leak had one.

Thanks but way too customized. However FJ mentioned that the base in the third post of his thread is basically stock so I'm trying to download now but it keeps crashing.
What makes you think they're way to customized? Just flash his 1st release without the fj mod.

Have you read the feature list? Hell one of them has the SGS3 launcher and apps instead of the ones from the Note.
I'm downloading the one from the third post which is what I think you're talking about.
Lol. I think that's the only one rom. Apex launcher is by default, but you can use the stock touchwiz. Its as close as you're gonna get if you want a cwm zip. Can't hurt to try it out. Just make a backup of your stock rom and give it a try. You won't regret it. Any ics rom blows gb out of the water. If you don't like it, you can be back to stock in 10 minutes.
Sent from Galaxy Note
Well I flashed it but it's missing Touchwiz Launcher which I actually wanted since I like it's widgets. Sigh. Time to borrow a friend's computer and get the ODIN leak.
You have to either flash it seperately or use tools in settings to install it. Tools are there only if you flashed the latest rom or flashed fj mod. If you flashed the 1st le2 rom then just flash the fj mod. It doesn't change anything. It just gives you the ability to add a few things....including touchwiz.

The leak is supposed to be the official version. From what I've read it is as stable as the stock GB rom.
alright once again i'll bite
I ended up getting access to a PC and using Odin.
I keep hearing about the flapjax rom or something, cant find it. I dont think im spelling it right. Where is it? Is it very stable? Looking for the MOST stable rom with good language keyboard support for my mom. She doesnt need all the cool features, might even go with stock but if there's a stock jellybean that's really stable and has a good pack of keyboard languages id love to hear it.
If you want stable, go for an ICS ROM. The devs have done amazing work on the JB ROMs but unfortunately, there are some things that simply can't be done until official drivers and kernel sources are available from Samsung.

Yeah I think Ill do that. Its not like my mom will know the difference between ICS and jB. Rather have it work 100% than 90% for her.
Any recommendations for a really stable ICS almost like factory stock other than PA and avatar? I tried to download the 4.0.4 tmobile stock rom but the download link is dead and when I odin the file from samfirmware or whatever it will cause it to freeze on boot. Stock ICS would be fine with me.

Flappjaxxx is an awesome dev that used to be here on XDA. He is no longer here which we don't need to discuss why that is. If you use google you can most likely find his roms fairly easily. I suggest yuo stick with a stock ATT based rom is you want solid performance with out all the bells and whistles. You can find some things here in the dev section or on flapps site if you happen to find that

Install or update TWRP with Goomanager if you're on an old recovery. Just click install openrecoveryscript, that easy.
Stock TW KitKat: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2721118
There are lots of improvements in JB and KK, as well as a couple fixable "issues" (e.g. sd card).
You can sell it to me and then I will give you my phone, that would be the best thing for the world.
Definitely gonna keep my MDK bootloader. The funny thing that's making me want to change is the App to SD card feature in the updates.
I'll make the switch from CWM to TWRP and give stock TW KK a shot. Are there any GS5 ROMs for us? I feel so out of it lol.
I've been flashing since the OG Droid and had close to 10 rooted phones but after getting my GS4 and having everything working perfect(including the mods, I.e. WiFi Ap), I just left it

I'd use Flashify from the Play Store to update to a new recovery. Using Goo or ROM Manager can lead to possibly having to Odin back to stock and start fresh... Couldn't tell you exactly why but it's happened to a few of us including me.
Also... Go for a ROM like C ROM, Mahdi, or Liquid Smooth... Ditch TW

I too have MDK so.... :highfive:! I am running Hyperdrive RLS 15 and it runs flawless. Loads of extra features if you like that sort of stuff. I used the Ktoonz Kernel with it so it comes with the KTweaker App for complete control over the kernel. Loads of battery life. Its 4.3 but if you want 4.4 then wait about a week or so and Sbreen94 will have it released (atleast that is his current time frame).
hi, i am new to this forum and also to the rooting process..i have rooted my note 3 and with some help from here also got me a custom recovery installed.. now i would like to get a custom rom and was wondering which would be the best one to have and also if i could be pointed in the right direction on how to go about doing it..i really appreciate the help..thx!
Read the sticky threads. There is no such thing as the best ROM. You should read about the process and read some more if you don't know how to flash a ROM.
You could brick your device easy enough so take your time and research thru the note 3 forums.
Good luck

First, head over to my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/general/samsung-note-3-rom-flashin-basics-t2896440 and get the info to flash a ROM. The very first thing you should do is debloat your stock rom here is my thread for that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770729 . Take your stock rooted, and debloated ROM and make a backup of it so you always have a base to restore from if something goes wrong. Also make a copy of your efs file its on the root of your system you can find this with a file manager like Root Explorer. Put the copy of efs file in a safe place, if the one in your device gets corrupted you will need it. A few simple things up front will make flashing fun.
As far as which is best is up to you, remember anything ported from another type of phone will always have things that don't work. With AOSP roms like CM 12 you lose features on your note 3, but you gain speed and simplicity. ALWAYS remember what version of KITKAT your on like NC4 4.4.4 and choose a new ROM that is based on the same version KITKAT you have on your device. Enjoy!!!!

I'm in the same boat. I've just read through the different ROM's available for NH7.
Could someone point me to which ROM is the:
Cleanest
Closest to STOCK
Fully functional
Lightest (without all the crazy extras that are almost never used)
Most stable. No beta's, if's, maybe's, might work ROM's (certain functions, apps, features etc...)....
I'm setting up a sprint phone for my sister....so nothing fancy. Turn on. Turn off. No bugs. Stable. Something that just works without all the bloatware.
Thanks guys.

Well I'm going to assume her device is on NH7. There are two rom out there freeza's NH7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472664 ( go for the odex version ) or the Classic Rom NH7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/development/classic-rom-4-4-4-nh7-t3012725
Neither of these roms is debloated, but with a little work could be daily drivers. OR if you want something stripped down and stable you could with AOSP (KK) C-ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2739968 run it with a LeanKernel here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2488233 and that's about as minimalistic as you can get.
Last option what I did for my daughter. Downgraded the device to NC5 the most stable version of KitKat removed KNOX, and debloated it myself there is my thread for that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770729 .

Excellent. Thanks for talking the time to guide me in the right direction.
Yes, the phone is currently on NH7 at the moment. You had mentioned that neither of freeza's or the classic rom is debloated? I take it that I'd be able to uninstall and just delete the apps that I don't need yes?
Going the ASOP KK C-ROM sounds enticing coupled with using the LeanKernel....hhmmm...... Will the Note 3 lose any of its Note functionality by going with the ASOP ROM? Any known issues?
When you downgraded to NC5, did you just leave it stock and manually de-bloat it? If doing this is the most stable for KK, I may just go this route. I did read the thread about debloating...great stuff....this seems to be the cleanest while on the stock ROM....
Thanks again!

Yes you can delete/uninstall/freeze app you are not using. Anything not running gives you greater battery life and a faster device. Please remember to make a backup of your stock your rooted NH7 FIRST !!! That way if you delete an app and something goes wrong you can can restore the backup and start again.
AOSP has come a long way, most of the note 3 features work, a few small features don't. But as with all AOSP roms they designed to be streamlined and fast so you do give up some features for that. I debloated NC5, there is stuff on these KitKat roms you will never use, stuff for other countries.
