I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 and after I flashed what I thought was a recovery of CleanROM it turns out it was actually VRUAME7 (Found Here).
Since I was under the impression it was CleanROM, I tried flashing the stock image of VRUAMDK (also found at the link above).
Obviously, my GS4 didn't like that move, and got mad, now I am not able to flash VRUAME7, it keeps failing in Odin.
Any thoughts?

If you're at ME7, installing a recovery will fail. You must recover by flashing stock. If your download is failing in Odin, then it's not ME7 or corrupted, so try again.

That's just it. Since I flashed VRUAME7, I mistakenly flashed VRUAMDK... So I tried flashing VRUME7 again, and it keeps failing.

You're not alone, and just need the right file to flash.
There have been quite a few people in the same situation. Theres no reason me7 shouldnt take unless you got bad or the wrong files. Is it by chance giving you the error when flashing aboot?

I already tried that one.
It keeps failing at system.img.ext4
Well, As it turns out... it was my USB hub. My USB cable was going into a hub. For the hell of it I decided to move my usb cable to a port directly on my PC and it worked.
I feel dumb.

Don't feel dumb, anyone could have made that mistake! I learned the phone must be connected to a USB port on the PC and not to a hub while flashing a stock Moto ROM to my Motorola V9M and how long ago was that?
http://mark.cdmaforums.com/USC-V9M-Monster1.htm
It was 2008 or earlier. I can't remember breakfast so there's no way I can recall all the way back to 2008!
It's easy to forget and even easier for the devs to not mention this in their instructions for flashing!
FWIW, I do use a powered hub now and I don't have any problems but I think it depends on the hub, on the PC (specifically the Motherboard) and on the USB handling of the OS so what works for me may or may not work for anyone else.
Again, don't feel dumb, just be glad it was an easy fix!

No problem. It's important to note that it initially worked in the HUB, but somewhere down the line there must have been some communication errors. So, just because it worked once, doesn't mean it will always work.

Hey guys I need to return my phone to be fixed, but have a slight problem. The firmware is all stock except for when it boots up it says it is a GT-I9100. This is left from a previous flash that I did, but I went back to stock and never bothered to fix that, because it didn't really bug me. Now my phone won't recognize a charger or any usb plugs. My question is will Samsung/AT&T still accept my phone for replacement with this? If not is there anyway I can fix the boot screen without plugging my phone in? Thanks guys sorry for the noob question, but I am not really sure what to do and this is kind of a specific problem, so I couldn't find anything in the search. Once again really appreciate any help!

No, don't do that.
You can either use Mobile Odin to remove it, or do a complete Return to Stock using Odin.

You're absolutely right. For some reason I thought you were stock rooted...my mistake. Use my second option then.
As long as you root it, you can use Mobile Odin. Not like it matters anyway, you just need to get rid of the GT-I9100 and then flash back to stock again, thus eliminating root.
Did Odin one-click back to stock not work for you? Because it sounds like you might have flashed I9100 bootloaders and flashing I777 bootloaders should fix it (which if I'm not mkstaken, the one click does include). Someone correct me on both points if I'm wrong , I'm simply conjecturing.

Yea I tried this, didn't work. I could probably get it into download mode, if I borrowed someones battery, but I am not sure why that matters if the computer won't detect it.
I finally got my phone to connect after cleaning it for like an hour, I just have to hold it at a certain angle. Everytime I try and flash the bootloader I get a fail though, I am using odin 1.8.5 and the bootloader here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18859438&postcount=199. After it fails I have to reflash using the one click no bootloader here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18859438&postcount=199. Is there any one click with the stock bootloaders someone could please link me to? Thanks once again guys
Both links appear to be the same.
Anyway, why would you flash the bootloader?

That was my suggestion, I thought it might be an I9100 bootloader that he flashed which causes the GT-I 9100 to show up on boot, and he wants it back at stock for returning. Again I could be wrong, and of course flashing bootloaders is very dangerous, especially with your faulty USB connection (I didn't know it was faulty when I posted before).
EDIT: Did you ever try rooting so you can go the Mobile Odin route (which would be much safer)?

This first, please. This will tell you which bootloader you currently have.
If the usb connection is lost while the bootloader is flashing, the phone will hard brik, and will require jtag repair to recover, which costs about $50 to $60. Therefore, it is necessary to know what the phone status really is before taking that risk.
If you determine that you really do have the I9100 secondary bootloader, then you put the I777 UCKH7 sbl.tar in the PDA slot of Odin3 v1.85. Or you could flash the I777UCKH7-CL503881 FULL Odin3 One-click Downloader which includes the param.lfs and the secondary bootloader.
Mobile Odin will not flash bootloaders or param.lfs

Whenever I try to do this with odin it fails . I think I just need the one click with bootloaders, but I can't find it.
So last night I decided to play around with my phone since I had been running stock ICS for a while. I still had some battery issues so was going to try out a few roms and see how they were all doing these days. I started off by flashing a siyah kernel using odin to get root. Everything went smooth. I then installed ROM manager and stupidly tried to flash CWM from within the app. The app completely froze and once I rebooted the phone would not boot correctly. I get the initial triangle bound galaxy s II screen but after that just a blank screen. Beyond that, the buttons and display flash ever so often very briefly but thats it. I could still get to download mode so I figured I would just use the "return to stock" thread to start over. Unfortunately I seem to have completely messed something up because I can't finish flashing anything, the computer beeps like I unplugged the USB cable and plugged it back in in the middle of anything that takes longer to flash than just a kernel and odin reports that it fails. When I used to just leave my phone plugged into my computer and it was at full charge it seemed to randomly do the same beeping as well. I think my next plan of action is to let the battery drain a bit and try to do a full flash (with bootloaders) and hope that it makes it all the way through without disconnecting as it seems to shut down the usb connection when at full battery for some reason.
In summary, I can get to download mode at this point, or a firmware failed to load screen. Ive tried various things with odin, heimdel and kies to no avail. Odin seems to have some marginal success except for the random disconnecting. Anyone have any advice for me (beyond trying to flash with the phone at around 50% battery or am I buying a Galaxy Nexus today?
Thanks in advance
If u can't get into cwm just flash a stock firmware from the download repository or from creepycrawlys sig. Odin should work fine in download mode regardless of what recovery rom manager installed. Make sure u have the latest drivers on your computer for the i777. Also I've found when I do the Odin flashes that the best way to get it to work is to start Odin with yer phone disconnected THEN connect it after Odin is started. Don't use rom manager in the future.

The random disconnecting sounds like either a bad cable or a bad USB port. Try to flash using a different USB cable...if that doesn't work, you may have a hardware issue.

Seems logical, I will try a different port and cable and see if I have better luck. Anybody have any suggestions on what package I should try first? Should I try one that includes the BLs or not? My end goal is going to be either cm9 or aokp.

I would stay away from packages with bootloaders. Too easy to fully brick your phone. I would use the one creepyncrawly posted here. Make sure you read and follow the directions to avoid Brickbug. This will put you on rooted stock ICS. You should then be able to flash to your hearts content.

Lol yes, sorry kinda going crazy here. Thanks for responding, I appreciate that even. I was on Goodness i605 note 2. I must have screwed up by downloading something in those minsettings that was for a different carrier. It said it was a network error fix I believe. It then took me to recovery to flash the zip and thats when all hell broke loose. It just keeps booting over and over and after the samsung label it shows the twrp screen for a split second then it's just gone. It was obviously a huge mistake and I am an idiot for doing it. I have been trying to get things done through the pc and usb to the phone to fix it and that seems to be the other part of my problem is since I can't turn the usb debugging on on my phone i can't download anything through the usb, Right?...I'm a noob basically and obviously, lol but thanks for responding even if you have no advise.

Dude go into recovery with the rom still installed, and dirty flash the rom while only wiping cache and dalvik. So long as you didn't wipe system you should be fine doing that.

Odin can be buggy, a lot of the issues are with USB cables and whatnot. Try some of these
1. Try Odin a few times, if it doesn't work disable any and all antivirus, reboot PC and try again.
2. If still no success, try reinstalling all drivers and yet again try again.
3. If that fails, use a different USB port.
4. If that doesn't work try a different USB cable.
5. If all else fails just try a different PC.
Frankly your phone has reached rock bottom so any fails with Odin should not make the problems worse than they are now. Keep us posted and good luck.

Ill give all that a go for sure thank you very much. Is there any possible way through your computer connected to your phone through the usb that you can turn on the usb debugging on your phone from your computer? Long shot I'm sure but it seems like if I could get that turned on I would be working in the right direction
are you getting into download mode on the phone itself and seeing the yellow triangle? you can flash the stock samsung firmware through odin which also unroots and then start over with rooting and such.
I would do what wto said. I have had odin fail multiple times because my drivers were not loaded correctly. Keep plugging away at it, and it might surprise you. Good luck, and sorry.....

In the post it said shut it down then and go into recover but I tried and it just goes right back into the loop? any idea from there?
I don't want to give you bad advice at this point. Honestly, this is my first Samsung device. You can still get into downlpad mode correct? If so, you are not completely screwed (hopefully). I will look around tomorrow, and see what I can dig up. At this point you know you can flash files with odin, so dont get careless at this point. I know how frustrating, and anxious you must feel. What a great learning experience, huh? My advice is to do as much research as possible. Getting late, so until tomorrow.

Did you flash the PIT file when you flashed the return to stock files? Which return to stock files did you flash? If you haven't already done this try flashing just the PIT files in Odin and see if that will work for you, if not then flash the alternative recovery ROM and the PIT together in Odin and see if that works.

If you can still get into download your phone will still be functional. I have a few questions.
1. What version of android were you rooted on?
2. Were you ever successfully rooted at any point?
3. Can you get your phone to be recognized in ODIN?
You shouldn't have to need USB debugging if you can get into download mode, for all I know download mode uses the same USB debugging properties as it is not in the OS yet.
Keep us posted and please don't leave out details in-case someone else comes around with a similar issue. If you do get something working, try to put a step-by-step on how you did it for future reference.
Great Learning experience for sure, I thought I was getting good at figuring out what I could and couldnt download lol..yes I'm extremely bummed and even more frusterated. I appreciate all the help and direction. I am truely sorry to even have to ask for help guys believe me. Yes I was rooted, yes I get recognized by odin in download mode and as for the version I was last on I am not sure exactly what I was on...i never got the latest update from verizon because I was rooted before that. So I rooted just after that verizon update that was the security patch I believe?? So I did the pit file with the root66 first and it keeps going all the easy tell the end of the download amd then fails...however I then did the pit with the stock restore and it passed, rebooted my phone then goes into a boot loop and I shut it down like it says in the directions and try to restart into recovery and it goes right back to the bootloop..its like I dont have a recovery set up or something anymore if thats possible?? I'm working now but ill be back to messing with it once I get off so any advice will be appreciated and put to use at 5mst...thanks again everuone
I am just thinking out loud, but if recovery is hosed, maybe you could run casual, and have it reinstall rhe custom recovery. I have no idea if this would work, but it is one way ro get a custom recovery back on. Still looking around for more info, but I dont want to brick your device completely.
Edit- You may try flashing twrp from odin. Here is a link to team.win's website, and download. Again, I am thinkong out loud, and none of my advise is bulletproof.

The USB port for my S4 recently stopped working. I called verizon for a replacement. Unfortunately, I am unable to unroot my S4 because it will not connect to ODIN. I could not find a mobile ODIN app compatible with the sch-i545. Does anybody have any suggestions how I could unroot my device. All and any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

What ROM? That will work if you still have access to a reset method inside the UI. If you have a ROM on there you must be running MDK, can't you just wipe the data off the phone with CWM or TWRP? The Root binary should be un-installed when you boot back up. Just delete the SuperSu app and you should be home free.

Please correct me if im wrong or misunderstanding what you are saying but i dont believe that would work. If I boot into TWRP and clear all the data I don't believe there will be anything for the phone to boot into. There wont be a rom for it to boot into and it would still have a custom recovery instead of the stock one.

After the data wipe you could reinstall the original ROM couldn't you? Long as you have the file on your microsd card. That would probably just reflash your ROM though, it may not erase the binaries. Damn. Well I'm sure there is a way to do it like this. It's just been a while since I've messed around with the TWRP recovery mode.
Do you have cwm on the phone. . If you do your sol. You can't wipe that without an odin to my knowledge. . But if your just rooted.. triangle away. .undo root. Remove su factory reset. . Should be clear. .

Hey so I'm in a similar boat - I have a Verizon S4 with the ME7 firmware that the usb port will no longer connect and won't charge unless the phone is off (and only when it's plugged in to a computer, not a wall). It was rooted so I followed the instructions above to unroot it.
But here's where I think I'm in trouble - I had loaded the TWRP bootloader before I found out it wouldn't work with the ME7 firmware, and never bothered flashing the phone back (stupid, I know). Is there no way to flash back to stock rom via the SD card? Right now when I go into recovery mode, it just goes to the "Downloading" screen. Does anybody know a way I can get TWRP off?
Sorry hope I'm not thread-jacking but this is the most relevant thread I've found to ask this in.
Sure it's not the cable.. if your in a position where you need to stock odin me7 you need usb.. Make sure it's not the cable although it could be phone usb is screwed due to your phone error.. you have insurance??

The only way I know to solve your problem is to reflash ME7 using ODIN. If you have the ME7 firmware already you can't use the TWRP or CWM recovery partitions at all. With out those operating your stuck using ODIN and your USB port. Have you tried another cable?

Yeah I've tried a couple different cables, a couple different pc's, a couple different chargers. It will only charge when it's off, connected to a pc. When turning it on "usb cable connected" flashes up top, even though it's not. When it is connected and turned on and below 15%, it tells you to connect to a power source. I searched this and low and behold, several other s4 owners are having the same issue. It started happening two nights ago after I didn't get the phone on a charger before it died, then I charged it overnight - next morning it wouldn't start up. I don't think it has anything to do with having the twrp bootloader though, because it had been on there a couple weeks and restarted more than once with no issues.
If anyone knows how to fix the usb thing, I've got...lets say a $50 reward up for grabs. Not much but it's all I can afford to not void my warranty.

The problem with the custom recovery partition you have on there is that it prevents you from doing a factory reset in the settings menu. At least as far as I'm aware. If mobile ODIN worked on our phones I would say download that and re-flash with the tar file on your msd card. SafeStrap might be a way to give this a try. I can't link to another forum in here but I would look into that.
Maybe replace the usb port yourself

Well I'm not exactly sure what did it, but I used a small flathead screwdriver to bend the connector inside the usb port up a little, as I read that can be an issue with these phones, and used an old cable from a blackberry, and one of the two let me get it connected to the pc and flashed back to the stock rom via ODIN. Still won't charge with any combination of wall chargers/cables, so I'm going to take it in to Verizon. But it's a huge sigh of relief knowing that they won't be able to claim I damaged it by putting a custom bootloader on. Thanks for the input. Hope OP gets his problems sorted also.

If you were on me7 you shouldn't have been able to get twrp as your recovery. So if you are on me7 then your recovery is still stock even if you tried to flash twrp.

That may have been true, I might have been trying the wrong buttons to get to recovery. Still learning some stuff. But the twrp loader definitely changed the splash and download screen enough that I needed to get it off so that no red flags will be thrown when I take it in to Verizon to have them look at it.
Thanks for everybody's help! I managed to connect to ODIN by pushing the usb in different ways until I got a connection and sent it back to Verizon completely stock

I did the OTA update from M1I to MJ7 and read somewhere that the M1I root method would work. It made my phone unbootable. Obviously the M1I file I have won't work now. I need the MJ7 odin file now or else my phone is a paperweight until then.
Someone else did this 2, you can't use this method because it FLASHES A ROOTED Ml1 Rom....... Odin file still has not been posted yet

thankfully i have an iphone i can use for now. surprisingly i went to boot up my phone just now and it went through almost the whole boot process. it's stuck on the verizon splash. last night it would just go straight into odin.
I am not so lucky as to have a backup phone
I should look for a cheap 4g phone to keep in a drawer for such occasions. Hopefully an MJ7 file is made available soon so I can recovery my files before my new phone arrives.

You might be able to get it into recovery and manually use the update.zip.
It is reported that at least a few people have been able to get out of the state you are in my using a manual update.

This is an ODIN factory image similar to the one posted here but this is an emergency recovery image that will help you recover and restore your device from nearly ANY possible soft-brick by entirely wiping, refreshing, and repartitioning your device to out-of-box OEM firmware.
WARNING: Please use this with caution as this will wipe your ENTIRE device with no chance of restoring back old data afterwords!
How to Use
Download file from: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23203820527944861

Untested, but you can unzip the attached and flash it in ODIN - it's the stock MJ7 recovery. With a bit of luck that'll get you repaired.
If not, flash the no-wipe MJ7 ROM from the Android Development forum, but that'll probably cause you to lose root.

Awesome
You know... I don't post much if at all on xda. Mostly im an intel junkie but I have to say after bricking my 24 hour old MJ7 s4 and fully recovering it using this post you guys are ****ing AWESOME!
FYI The exact steps I took were as follows using windows 8.1 pro x64
downloaded Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.14.0
downloaded Odin3 v3.07
downloaded ALL_I545VRUEMJ7_I545VZWEMJ7_1937946_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
Install Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.14.0 drivers
Ran odin as administrator, left defaults checked and chose PDA ALL_I545VRUEMJ7_I545VZWEMJ7_1937946_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
(Windows hangs when trying to first browse the file, WAIT)
plugged phone in and got instant com green and hit start. Waited 20 mins and it all went through successfully.
USERS NOTE:
The first computer I tried just absolutely would not flash this phone. Drivers where correct etc it just seemed like it dropped connection. Tried 3 separate usb ports one even off a powered hub and all failed on the system flash. Changed computers and followed the same setup and went first try. If it fails try and try again. Changing different ports, computers, and or drivers helps if you get failure messages.
Thanks to all of you!

Just an FYI. Whenever you take an OTA from the Carrier it's written so you cannot revert back to an earlier build or a soft and possible hard brick can occur. This has been discussed numerous times in various forums. You were lucky this time.
