[Q] A few noob Galaxy questions - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I've recently switched from a Galaxy Nexus to an S4 after a couple of years. I really like the S4, but I have a couple of nitpicks and questions, and was wondering if anyone could help out.
First, the bottom buttons annoy me since my Nexus and Nexus 7 are the exact opposite. Is there any way, mod or otherwise, to switch the back and menu buttons?
Is there any way to make the number pad use a normal number tone instead of the water drop noise?
TouchWiz was ok, but it was too restrictive with how I normally use my phone. I switched to Nova Launcher and infinitely prefer it. Does anyone know if the CM10.2 is going to be using the standard Nexus layout? If so, will that fix the above problem as well?
Every time I want to connect my headset, it pops up in the middle of the screen saying paired, and I have to touch it to connect. Is there a way for it to just connect automatically every time?
The boot screens are a little much for me, and the Rom Toolbox said it flashed a new one, but it never happened. Is there a special way this needs to be done?
Finally, I have a battery question, but I went ahead and posted a detailed question about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2421591
Thanks in advance for your help everyone!

1.you can always find a rom with soft keys available.
2. I believe cm will let you customize.
3.idk about headset
4. Assuming you have recovery, I'd just download a flashable boot screen and flash iy

Do the quick-key mods require full ROMs, or just flashable zips?

[Q] Anyone tried D4 ROM for CM9 ?

If so does it solve any of my below issues ?
Posted Image [Q] CM9 on Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 3 UK Network Provider
New to this forum so apoligies if this post is in the incorrect place.
I rooted and installed CM9 last night and tried to follow the noob guide which was not that clear especially when you don't know what flash means. I know I am a real noob I ended up finding a great video by searching Samsung galaxy s2 root. Had all the links and latest version of cf root.
I have to say CM9 is what the S2 should of been like !
I have a few questions though. Sorry in advance if these are noobie questiins.
1. On stock ics for my device when i chose a picture from gallery for wallpaper it would let you choose if you wanted it in portrait or across 3 parts. Now I have a box which I have to adjust and I can never get the size correct !!!
2. How do I get a seperate picture on my lock screen.
3. How do I get camera to save to SD card , there is no option in camera settings ?? would this be because google devices have no sd slot ? is so how can i change this?
4. How do I get the cool unlock effect then after I do that get the pin option ?
5. Anyway of adjusting keyboard options like key size (way to small at the moment) and feedback as vibration is too strong at present.
6. How do I get folders in the app draw ? Can only do it on homescreen. Very annoying as could do this previously and I am ocd with these things.
7. Found that if I use the camera there is a very slight pink splodge in the center of the screen. Never had this before ?
8. No 3G but i do get the H symbol occasionallyy pop up??
9. Battery life poor and really really much worst whilst using gps.
10. gps takes at least 5 mins to get a signal on navigation / maps even when i have it fully on.
11. How can I get notification numbers on the text and email symbol on the homescreen ? beleive its on stock ics.
12. Anyone know if whilst in rom manager I can update to the latest nightly build and is this the best way to update my phone now i am on cm9 ?
13. Sometimes my homescreen swipes are inaccurate ?
14. keyboard presses sometimes dont vibrate but letter appears?
15. anyone know how to get music player to look like this. http://www.xda-developers.com/wp-con...sic.jpg?139d23. the cm9 one looks grey and dull and has less options.
16. my videos on my sd card wont play ??
17. lost notes which came with the s2? where can i find it ??
18. how can i get gestures like cm7
19. how can i change themes as the option seems to be unavailable in the menu e.g its there but wont let me press it ?/
Thanks in advance. I know there are lots of questions here and all the little things here won't put me off using cm9 as its sooo much better than stock !!

GT-i9100 capacitive buttons not working properly

The search and back buttons don't work at all. The home button performs as the back button, and the menu button is fine.
I've tried many different rooms as well as kernels. I've also used klies to go back to factory default. Nothing helps. Any ideas?

Your sig says you have a Nexus, and the GT-I9100 doesn't actually have a dedicated search button. So my guess is you flashed an I9100 firmware to a different model phone. Check the label under your battery, what does it say for model?
Its a friend's phone. He has it right now and I can't remember what the model says underneath but the boot screen says GT-i9100.
Its an AT&T Galaxy S II

AT&T Galaxy S II is NOT I9100. It's SGH-I777. Boot screen changed because wrong firmware was flashed. Flash an I777 firmware (go to the AT&T Galaxy SII section to get one) and it will all be fixed.
I see, I'll give it a try. Thank you!

Make sure you get an I777 firmware.
I777 forum.
Homescreens
Fix: If you have custom rom or kernel in accordance with an custom home launcher and lock screen, make sure you dont set a lock screen pin or pattern in the standard stock settings under Locations and security. If you do, your phone will not be able to recognize either the stock Launcher or your custom launcher as the default launcher thus not being able to link the capacitive home button to either, rendering it useless and unusable after reboot.
I had this problem today and realized that my screen kept flashing to the stock lock screen when i unlocked my screen from Go Locker so i went into Locations and Settings and disabled my pin there. This fixed my (Samsung Exhibit 2's) apparently broken capacitive Home and Search buttons  Hope that helps, and if you couldn't follow it, sorry

Your problem had absolutely nothing to do with his problem. Try reading the thread again. Plus, the thread was over a month old.
Flawd did you find a solution? Ive similar problem probably because i left the phone on charger overnight

Read the thread again, dude. You DON'T have the same problem. I read your other thread. You (apparently) have an i9100. He did not; either he or his friend flashed an i9100 firmware to an i777 phone. The solution for him (flashing an i777 firmware) will not work for you if you, in fact, have an i9100.
@ctomgee!
Thanks for the alert. And i understand his phone is a different phone and i shouldnot flash a non i9100 firmware which was advised to him. Thats why i asked him whether his problem was solved at all. He hasn't mentioned success/no-success so far. I am not an android user at fetus stage.
And i edited my post. I should have used the word "similar" instead of "same". I am quite frustrated these days.

Right; I was telling you that his problem was caused because he (or whoever) flashed an i9100 firmware to an i777. That root cause means any solution he found (which was probably to flash an i777 firmware instead of an i9100 firmware) will not be valid for your situation, since you have an i9100, and not an i777.

Help updating Razr

Hello, I'm currently using an x912 on 2.3.6, rooted. I'd like to go to ICS, however I have some concerns:
How is the battery life? Having the standard Razr, this is a concern for me
Will I be able to root again? How exactly do I do this? I've also heard the term deodox thrown around, what is that?
How is the keyboard? The one thing that turned me off about MIUI was that the keyboard didn't input a character immediately after you pressing the screen, and that really slowed me down
Finally: how is the lock screen? I use an app to lock my screen at the moment, so I only use the power button half as often. Will I still be able to do that in ics? can I set it to a gesture like I can with ADW, and will it turn the screen off as well?
Thank you for any and all help, I'm just having little luck with google with some of these questions, and the way I understand it it's a one way path. I just really want to make sure that this isn't something that I end up regretting

The battery life is lower in ICS than GB but performance is greater.
In dev section, you can find many root methods that work.
About keyboard, the ICS keyboard have a similar function to the GB, maybe more fast.
Upgrading to ICS is the best choice for RAZR, GB offers a much lower performance.
Sorry for bad english.

The razr utility 1.81 is what i would use to root these days... when it comes to battery life i have experienced better results with ics. Deodex = Apk files have respective odexes that devs use to supposedly save space. Deodexing means you convert it back to a .dex file and put it back inside the apk. This allows you to easily replace files (not having to worry about odexes), but the main point was to deodex services.jar so that you can change all text to different colors (such as the clock color to white) and to deodex services.jar, you need to deodex everything. Hope i helped.. cheers..

{Help] Soft keys dead, Touchscreen working fine. Suggestions for a ROM like Nexus 4

Greetings my fellow XDA experts,
I have a Galaxy S2 (i9100) International version on the NeatROM 4.8 ( XXLSW). What has happened is that my Softkeys are dead and unresponsive.
There is no illumination and response from them. So I have a phone without the menu and back buttons, which implies that I have a f**ked up iPhone like phone with just one Home button to function with.
I took the phone to the service center and they said it's a single piece with the display so the entire display would need to be replaced which is unreasonable and needless since the display works absolutely perfect.
So I was thinking of a remedy in terms of the ROM I use with the phone. Is there any custom ROM available for the S2 which would enable me to use a part of the display as the MENU and BACK buttons itself ? Like the Nexus 4 has ? I don't mind losing out on screen space to enable me to get those buttons back.
Please do suggest me any such ROM's or methods through which I can use the phone without having to change a fully functional touchscreen display. Spending so much just to get the Soft key functionality back is plain ridiculous and a pure manufacturing drawback from Samsung. Yuck
Anyways, please do help with any pointers.
Thanks and Cheers !

You'll be hard pressed to find a 4.2.2 ROM that doesn't have some sort of on-screen control. Do a bit of searching around on XDA of all the 4.2.2 ROMs, look at screenshots etc. Navigation bar is the same style as a Nexus 4. Pie controls are a method of on-screen control. AOKP ribbons are also for on screen control. There's probably more. Then there exist ROM's which attempt to mimic the AOSP, Nexus-style experience. Plenty to choose from.

So basically My ROM territory is now limited to any 4.2.2 AOSP/AOKP Rom's ? Do all of them have on-screen navigation?
Like the Parandroid? No more Sammy Rom's obviously.

Hmm well I imagine you could find some lower than 4.2.2 with those controls if you wanted to, but no need to if you don't want. You can use ParanoidAndroid if you want, search my posts for a link for i9100, I posted it yesterday or the day before I think. It won't be the first link you find on Google thats for sure, version 3.6 is the latest. As far as 'limited to 4.2.2 AOSP/AOKP'.... Depends how you see it. I don't see it as a 'limitation'. Start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23231772. Go through AOKP and AOSP till you find something you like. Bear in mind that the AOKP contains waaay more than just plain AOKP, there's hybrid (combos of CM,AOKP,PA, AOSP usually) and all sorts in there.
Enable Navigation Bar in AOSP/AOKP roms etc for getting these functions back.
Alternatively if you want navigation bar in Sammy Roms you can still have them , look for soft key enabler in play store or else you can edit build.prop of your phone , there will be option of soft keys , change it from 0 to 1.
Use pimp my rom it have a option for on screen buttons (back menu and recents) so you can have any rom

S2 soft keys not working
Issue seems to be related to the usb charging receptacle. As long as a good charging cable is connected, the soft keys work. They work for a short time after unplugging and then stop working again.

[Q] Can you add "silent mode" to Touchwiz volume controls?

Hi guys,
first time poster here (except for a few random comments). I'm relatively new to the forums, but have been reading up on a lot of stuff as well as having played around with ROMs to try and improve my SGS2's battery life. So along with having gotten myself and extended battery, I'm currently running NeatROM 4.8 which is a Touchwiz-based ROM. After trying a few different ROMs I figured that I actually kind of like Touchwiz compared to vanilla Android or the different launchers. However, a few features are missing.
My main problem with Touchwiz is that it doesn't have the "silent mode" option. On my GNex I'd have "volume", "vibrate" and then finally "silent" when you hit volume down one more time after the vibrate mode. I thought it was quite ingenious, and I hate not being able to set it to "silent" in Touchwiz. I know there's the quick menu option to disable the vibration, but that's just a pain compared to the other feature.
SO...does anyone know of a way to add the vanilla volume control to Touchwiz? A mod? A flashable zip? Some simple launcher that wouldn't kill my battery completely to fix the issue?
Tried searching for a solution in the forums, but didn't find anything that answered my question. Hope someone can help.
you have it ine 4.1 roms as dropdown toggles and in the power button options.....still don't get your point....

That kind of IS my point
I don't want it in the quickmenu (dropdown) toggles. And I don't want it in the power button menu. I'm looking for a way to get silent mode on the volume buttons like it is on Google Android.
I'm not aware of something such as that. My advice would be to post up on the NeatROM thread, super friendly bunch of blokes on there. You'll need a few more posts (need 10 all up) before you can post in a dev thread, but you should be able to get that no worries.
