[Q] NO push notifications!!! Viber, Whatsapp... - Nokia Lumia 920

Since two days ago push notifications on my lumia 920 are not working!!!
Viber, Whats app show no new messages, but when I open them - there are unread messages.
I've tried everything, restart, re install of apps but nothing -..
Could it be something wrong with their servers or what? Before, everything was working fine.
Now, when I enter viber rewievs in the market app - I see that a lot of people are having the same issue!!!
How come - both applications to fail at a same time? Strange
PS. sms messages are working fine

is their option to run in backgroung disabled ? are you running in battery saver ?
this can explain your problems, also if your internet connection is not OK.
I don't have any problems with whatsapp these days.

You didn't turn "battery saver" function on. Right? Battery saver will stop all background service include people and e-mail sync too.

same happening to me...with whatsapp. no battery saver, no background task blocked....just no notification until you opet the whatsapp...used to work before...gdr2 messed up my phone...its sometimes quite slow...lag and not working as before the update...

hmm I notice something today I receive some error messages from whatsapp regarding push notifications, but earlier I had notification from data sense app that my data limit is nearly reached, because I was checked the option - "Restrict background data when I'm near my limit".

Whatsapp Autosync

Question. If I turn off autosync for Whatsapp will it stop being able to send and recieve messages?
You will be able to send and receive messages if autosync is off.

I stopped Whatsapp auto-sync but it keeps turning back on again (not immediately though). I believe it was re-enabled by Whatsapp background service.
Other than uninstalling the app, how do I disable Whatsapp auto-sync and make it stay that way?
Why would you disable it in first place?
I see no reason to becasue it only uses very little data I believe, maybe even none.
And it is very useful, because i you disable it, whatsapp won't be able to see wether your contacts have whatsapp or not.
I would just leave it enabled
Whatsapp uses about 20k a day just syncing. That's about 600k a month. This may not be much in the grand scheme of things but it's 600k more than necessary. And I don't like app's phoning home when it's not necessary.
I don't sit around adding new phone contacts every 5 minutes and I'm quite happy to manually sync when I need to (once in a blue moon). If it wasn't for gmail I'd have auto-sync turned off.
The only way I can think of doing this is to hack the apk and remove the write sync permissions... but then you'd have to do that for every update.
I've used apktool to remove the sync write permissions from whatsapp and so far it seems to be working ok; Still need to check it's effects on battery though.
If anybody wants to try this you can find instructions and tools here.
You'll need to make 2 versions of the apk:
The first version is unchanged but is needed so that the signatures match with the second version. You should uninstall the original version completely then install the first version so that the sync entry is created for whatsapp.
For the second version you need to edit the manifest file and remove the line that gives sync write permissions. This version needs to be installed over the top of the first so that the sync entry for whatsapp is already created. You can do this through adb with the command 'adb install -r yourwhatsapp.apk'.

After much monitoring of my good old Galaxy S GT-I9000 on 2.3.6 XXJW4 and its countless freezes and auto reboots I realised the culprit seemed to be WhatsApp auto syncing address book to its servers.
I reached this conclusion after (i) freezing WhatsApp and seeing the problem disappear and (ii) not freezing WhatsApp but deleting full address book and the problem seemingly disappearing as well.
I 'only' have 2,700 contacts and I uploaded them onto the phone via Google Sync, importing the Outlook file into the Gmail account (and using it to deduplicate contacts etc).
I have tried both deleting the WhatsApp autosync account from the Account list on the phone and also manually disabling WA autosync but (i) the account will pop back up every time after some minutes, autosync enabled and all and (ii) autosync will turn itself back on automatically as well.
I have indeed disabled 'show hidden contacts' in WA settings to no avail (if purposefully enabling it, the Account and / or autosync seemed to come back instantly, together with the 'syncing' notification on the status bar).
I am simultaneously using Telegram and BBM as well as Facebook messaging and Twitter and it is only WhatsApp wreaking havoc with my phone.
I would be very interested to know if anyone else has experienced the same issue?
Cheers

I'm also experiencing the same problem. Auto sync always turns itself back on. I hate it when apps don't obey my command.
The main reason why I don't want autosync is because Android is powerless against so-called 'read only contacts' it can only offer to hide them instead of deleting them.
If I decide to delete a contact which happens to also be tied to whatsapp, Android can only hide the contact (and I don't want that).
I recently got to know an app called whatsapp+ but I don't know if it solves this problem.

[Q] Facebook messenger recieving delay?

Did a quick search, nothing obvious popped up for me...But i have an annoying thing with my S3 and facebook messenger, it can sometimes take 30-40 mins before my phone tells me there is a message, doesnt matter if the app is open in the background or not, ive reinstalled it, cleared data and removed and re-added my account with no change - anything else that i could try? The normal facebook app never tells me of messages does for notifications though lol.

Notifications not appearing

Hello,i have this problem i cant find solution.Sometimes i install rom and im astonished by how each app notify me via notification in status bar,but sometimes when i flash other roms this disappear,.For example today i installed diff. rom and i dont recieve notification from FB messenger.Im recieving from viber and whats app but messengers seems always be troubled one and when people write i dont get notified.Iv deleted and reinstalled it and stil same. What can i do to fix this ???
do you have the normal facebook app as well?
because I had the same problems until I cleared the data of both apps (facebook and messenger) and then first connected to facebook through the normal facebook app and then started for the first time the messenger. I discovered also incompatibilities when in the facebook app settings the main switch for notifications or the option for messages are disabled, then the messenger will not send notifications as well (even if it is another individual app)
and make sure that in messenger settings notifications is switched on (even if i am sure that you checked it )
Cleared data and on and off the notification settings.Hope issue is over, will type if its Solved

No notifications on Samsung stock 4.1.2 with go launcher

So i have my S2 with the upgraded 4.1.2 stock rom from Samsung , but rooted, and go launcher.
I have this setup for the last 2 years or so with all the go launcher upgrades.
My problems are like this:
I have not received Gmail notifications in forever i always have to check manually for mail.
Yes i tried emptying cache and app data and the label notifications are always checked for all my accounts, but still nothing.
I have used Jorte calendar for some time but had to give it up last year cause after a while it would not send me notifications on the dates i set.
Recently i tried using Caynax hourly notification app.
This program doesnt send a visual notification in the notification area but plays a little audio clip similarly to when you receive a message.
And again after using it for a few weeks it just stopped sending notifications.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, clearing data and the lot, settings in the app show everything is set up to send me the notifications and yet it doesnt.
I am getting some notifications, Facebook , YT and pushes , to name just a few, seem to work well enough
So if anyone has any experience with something like this please help.
humble bump

FB Messanger push notifications problem

So up until this morning I had no problems with notifications. Last night I used my Mate 10 Pro to chat for several hours and I was receiving notifications from FB Messenger constantly. For some reason since this morning I cant receive any more notifications and I have the app whitelisted and set the Launch settings to manual and I also made the app ignore battery optimization. Does anybody have any ideas how to fix this...I want my notifications back...
