Slimabean DPI Question - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I'm loving slims 4.3 ROM, but on stock DPI, 480, I get bleed over from widgets on adjacent screens. Is this just the way the DPI chooser operates, or do I have something set incorrectly? Thanks for any advice! Looked thru FAQs on ROM, didn't see anything regarding topic.

One of the first things I did was set it to 240. Seeing as I run 160 on my gs2 it was sort of a necessity. also 240 guarantees full market access.
Any issues with 240 ? Dialer our screen not properly aligned?

I haven't seen anything yet. Google music does switch to tablet mode, drives me nuts on the gs2 but fitting here
I use go dialer because the stock dialer shrinks and is off center but that's really only thing i noticed

How did you adjust the density

My icons are off-center and cut off. Which is too bad because I really like the lower density.

If you use touchwiz its guaranteed to happen. Switch launchers (all good on go launcher and adw) or search for a mdpi version. The hyperdroid guys make one iirc.
Edit: I see the dialer. I'mgoing to try to push A mdpi version

Change the line
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=320
to
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
in /system/build.prop, either using Root explorer or ADB
As for my results, aside from scaling everything down, it looks very crisp and clear. I'm too used to the 320 resolution, so i'm going to set it back.
Can someone post an mdpi touch wiz and dialer....I'm actually liking the touch wiz.....240 looked nice but having the launcher cut in half and drawer sucks, and messed up dialer to...but man 240 looks nice

Go to the market and get an app called Nitrality. You can change your dpi with it and it'll stick after reboot unlike LCD changer
Big Dogg Infuse I997 ZeusB5 ICS!
Guessing you need root for that?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA App
I just downloaded Nitrality, but didn't change the setting because it looks like it only allows you to set it as high as 240. That is, it says 320 (default) when you open the dialog for it, but as soon as you slide the slider, the highest you can go is 240. This leads me to believe that the slider is hardcoded to top out at 240, and that if you change it using this app, you won't be able to go back to the stock 320 using this app. Just a word of warning if you are only trying to see if you like it. Someone who has used this app might be able to check if the 320 option appears after you have set 240? I kind of doubt it, but it's possible.

Nitrality tops out at 300. To go back to 320, you an always just manually change the value in the build prop.

the LCD Resolution app I use you can set it to change on Boot and it has a button to revert to Stock right on it so if you wanted to go back it goes right to 320

I think it's mostly personal preference. I was at 240 for a couple days and it was fine. I even dropped it down to 210 to attempt tablet mode, but didn't like losing the task bar. I'm at 214 now and will probably stay here. Haven't had any issues with FC's and everything seems to be working.
I was on 240 for a long time but am not on 214 so i can get use to it so when tablet mode comes out at 213 I'll be well adjusted.

Any particular reason for changing it down? You have some apps that work at these lower settings that don't at 320?
I can't get the Astro key to install, and wondered if the dpi had anything to do with it.
I'm using 240 dpi with Go Launcher and exDialer. I don't think I could ever go back to 320 now. It looks so sick.

Individual app DPI

I used paranoid android for a while and really loved it. But I started to miss a lot of the features that came stock with the galaxy s3.
So I was wondering if there was some way to set the dpi for apps individually (like in paranoid android) whilst still maintaining a stock rom.
I know how to set dpi overall (tablet mode), but I'd love to have a hybridised stock rom.
How does an app actually know what dpi to render as, does it draw it from the build.prop?
Download Rom toolbox and change to 160 dpi, go to performance- >bild.prop tweaks and change from there lcd density to 160 from the app
You will need root permission for it

He's asking to change the dpi per application. Not the entire display dpi. That's only possible in paranoid android.

Is there a way to intercept the call to build.prop and send back a '"false" dpi to render an app in a specific format, or would you have to have a custom rom for that? Would that be beyond the scope of an app?

Can anyone recommend a DPI changing app?

Hey guys, I like to Luzon my DPI to 280 from 320 to make the system show smaller fonts (and to spoof SPB Launcher to allow 5x5 grid instead of 4x4). The app I use, (LCD Resolution) for some reason won't retain my settings are after a reboot.
I've been out of the android game for the last year, so I'm playing catch-up

Have you messed around with the xposed framework?
That is what I use to change the DPI on select apps.

I think he wants the entire system changed isn't xposed just app by app? I personally just change it in my build.prop save and reboot. However pimp my ROM let's you do it if you prefer

I set my system LCD density, then used xposed to set apps that need 320 dpi.

Who has changed their DPI?

One of the first things I thought of when I got my phone was "wow, EVERYTHING is way too big". I tried shrinking icons and text, but still want happy with things like the system ui.
Once I had my phone rooted I dove into the build.prop file and changed from 480 to 320, and couldn't be happier! Naturally the launcher was jacked up, but Nova launcher fixed that. The only remaining annoyances are a few Samsung apps that don't scale properly, the phone, camera, calculator and I'm sure a few more I haven't noticed. I know there are multi-DPI apps available for the unlocked S4, but I didn't want to be the first to test them on Verizon.
If you've changed your DPI, what did you go with? Any problems? Have you tried the multi-DPI Samsung apps?

Use the xposed mod, should work just fine as it isn't phone dependent.
Just did this, amazing. My first thought too, this phone is for visually impaired! What are some other good values, if any, between 320 & 480?
I've tried exposed in the past on my GN (Toro) running AOKP and came away mostly disappointed. Fact is, I want EVERYTHING to be smaller, not just select apps. I really don't get Google's insistence on making the GUI elements so big, it's not like we're dealing with resistive screens any more. I wish they would just take advantage of the fact that android scales so well and allow anyone to change their DPI either device wide or per app, then they could make everything default to smaller with big only for old and/or blind people.

Change your dpi in build.prop and then use xposed to set the dpi to stock on apps that don't work/look right. Should only be a few.

Did you notice if changing the build.prop DPI screws up the play store? In the past some apps would become unavailable in the play store if you changed the default DPI.

So I actually have the framework installed from the Wallet fix, but where do I download the mod pack/apk to change the DPI? There is a reference thread with a .co.uk site but it is down.
Xposed app settings apk. Sorry. Google that. Dumb auto correct.

I have changed mine to 420 but i cant decide if i like it or not. Sometimes its cool making everything smaller and using that screen space but other times I am missing seeing larger icons and text, showing off that resolution in the more visible graphics. Hmmm... I also tried 320 before that and everything was very very small lol.
Plus I can't use the Xposed app to fix the now cut off Gallery/Phone app because I use 3Minit Framework and app instead..
