[Q] Need help on installing NeatROM Superlite - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I am using I9100 phone and below are the info of the phone:
Product Code: INU
PDA: I9100XWLST
CSC: I9100ODDLSE
MODEM: I9100DDLS9
I am thingking to install the NEAT ROM SuperLite version in my phone and the steps in the thread is not enough for me to follow.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2421924
Can anyone help from Rooting to install the ROM.
Also I need to know how can I root my phone with secure kernel.
Thanks in advance.
Joel.

I'm confused as to what's difficult about:-
Boot into Recovery
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache
- Go to Advanced\ Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Go to "Mount & Storage" & Format System
- Install ROM
- Reboot & Enjoy
?? If you don't understand what those things are, you're playing with fire attempting to flash anything to your phone. People who try to do stuff without understanding anything tend to break their phones.
Like almost all rom/kernel installation instructions, they're perfectly clear/simple. Also, re: rooting your device, you really need to search (the threads stickied near the top of Q&A and General are a good start) given this device was released two years ago & this question has been asked/answered here many thousands of times before in that time.

RE: Need help on installing NeatROM Superlite
HI MistahBungle,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I have rooted my phone and installed couple of ROMS previously and now I am on stock ROM.
Just got confused with the 5th step.
Boot into Recovery:
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache
- Go to Advanced\ Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Go to "Mount & Storage" & Format System
- Install ROM - Do I need to install it with ODIN or just the zip file to phone and install it.
- Reboot & Enjoy
Thanks.

Zip file to phone and flash in CWM. Think about it, for Odin you need a .tar or .tar.md5 extension. You have a zip = flash in CWM. (obviously not all zip files are CWM flashable....)

Hi,
Zip file to phone and flash in CWM
--> Means I have to install CWM with root?

[Q] No advanced option in recovery mode

Hello, Ive been trying to flash my phone and install this rom on my galaxy s2 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1460702 ) but however i entered the recovery mode and wiped the data and cache partition but there is no option to get into advanced mode to wipe the battery stats and dalvik cache
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Heya, just flash a corresponding CF-Root kernel (use search ^^) which has the advanced clockworkmod recovery integrated
Thanks for your reply AJ but i am in the middle of everything. I have flashed my phone before but i am still a beginner and do not want to brick my phone. So basically i am here :
1 - Being Root
2 - Copy from the PC. AndyX_ROM_v3.0_ICS_4.0.3_XXLP2.zip zip on the SD card
3 - Restart the phone in Recovery Mode
4 - Make Wipes:
* Wipe data
* Wipe cache
The next step is to wipe dalvik cache for what i need the advanced option... would it be safe for me to leave this in between and go for what you suggested... if yes, is there any tutorial at all to do this? I guess i cant restart my phone since i wiped out everything already? and wont i need to re-root my phone and check usb debugging for do what you suggested?
Thanks for your time.
Root + CWM .

All you've done so far is factory reset your device. You can safely install CF-Root, as suggested by AJ.Rockwell and it won't brick your device (disclaimer: if you do it right )
Clockwork Mod is a more advanced recovery mode and will have the extra options you are looking for.
Yes thanks guys, right now i am flashing the new kernal using the latest version available in the thread suggested by JJEgan ... just want to know that can i connect my phone to odin and flash directly from the recovery screen or do i shut down my phone first? Just trying to take every step very cautiously and asking everything i am not sure about.
EDIT: Ah, nevermind, i guess i must shut down my phone anyway to put it into download mode.
Well, glad you could make it. Welcome to the world of unleashed android!!
All finished thanks a ton guys

[Q] Flashing custom ROM

Hi all,
Can someone help me please?
I have an S3, and have come from an S1 and several HTC's before that. Well versed in the world of flashing.
My friend has an S2, and is trying to flash a custom ROM (has tried several different ones).
He has successfully rooted and install CWM using CF-root, but when he flashes ROMs they do not work. They don't get errors when flashing, but then always gets bootloops he reboots.
The only thing that I could think was missing was from my S1 days when there was recovery 2e, but I understand the recovery is within the kernel on the S2, so thats not it.
I'm sure there is something simple missing.. he has followed the myriad of guides on here to the letter, with no joy.
His current ROM (flashed through Odin) is XWLPO (which according to several sources can be rooted with cf-root for XXLQ5)
Before flashing a custom rom, he needs to wipe at least cache and dalvik in recovery. If still not fixed, wipe data. But, never and never do this wipe in cwm while on lpo (despite the fixed v 5.6 cf root lq5 should be fine)

Thank buddy.
Just to clarify, is it only the wipe data that doesn't work from recovery, or the cache & dalvik as well?
And I assume if you don't do it through recovery, then you do it through settings --> Backup and reset?
It is best to perform full wipe, wipe cache and dalvik.
from my personal expirience its better to flash a custom rom via CWM and not via odin and defenatly full wipe and fix permissions bevor reboot
darkside super wipe?
cant i just run darkside super wipe the flash a new rom thats it right or am i missing something
I believe someone here will find this helpful
General steps before flashing a new ROM.
Requirements: ROOT access, CWM recovery
***Backup your present ROM just incase***
1. Wipe data/ factory reset
2. Wipe cache partition
3. Wipe dalvik cache (under advanced)
4. Format /system (under mount)
5. Flash your desired Rom/zips
6. Fix permissions (under advanced)
Notes:
- If you are moving from from an AOSP ROM to Samsung (vice versa), perform all the steps above.
- If you are upgrading / downgrading from one android version to another e.g ICS to jellybean or 4.0.3 to 4.0.4, also perform all the steps above.
- If you are upgrading from a Samsung ROM to another wipe the same android version, you may skip step 1.
- if you are upgrading your Aosp/aokp Rom with another with the same android version e.g 4.0.4 Aosp to 4.0.4 aokp, you may also skip
step 1.
*******Important******
If you are presently running a Samsung based 4.0.4 Rom that is using Samsung based kernel e.g CF-ROOT or stock kernel, please flash Siyah kernel before performing any of the above steps. You will end up with ash unusable device if you don't adhere to this important information.

[Q] Flashing a new rom.

Hello XDA,
I own a SGS II GT-I9100.
It has been running on CM7.1.0 , Android version 2.3.7 since I got my phone and I'd like to update it.
I have PARANOIDANDROID 2.54 in mind to update into.
I am wondering what steps do I have to take as I do not understand the instructions stated in the rom's thread.
The instructions state:
RECOVERY: FACTORY RESET IF YOU WERE USING ANOTHER ROM!
RECOVERY: Install Rom: Download
RECOVERY: Install Gapps, ALWAYS-EVEN FOR UPDATES: Download (find the latest one that carries the "jb" tag)
RECOVERY: Wipe Cache Partition
RECOVERY: Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot and enjoy.
Specifically at the part after doing a factory reset. How do I install rom/gapps after I do a factory reset?
Do I use "ROM Manager v4.5.0.1"? And also, will it still stay after doing a factory reset?

after doing a factory reset copy the rom and gapps zip files to your internal or external sdcard.
Paranoidandroid does not come with google apps (gapps) as part of the rom it is a seperate zip file.
reboot in to recovery.
scroll down to install a zip from sdcard. install rom. reboot.
reboot into recovery again install gapps.
reboot.
No rom manger will not stay but paranoid does not use it. It is only recommend for use with cm roms only.
avoid using ROM manager on this particular device, it is known for beign the cause of lots of problems and malfunctions
Thanks for the reply guys.
Let me confirm the steps I have to take:
1) Factory reset my phone.
2) Copy the rom+gapps into internal/external sd.
3) Reboot phone into recovery.
4) Scroll down to install zip from sd card -> install rom -> reboot.
5) reboot into recovery and install gapps
6) Reboot.
Is that correct?
Also, I read this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1990102 about dong a factory reset on a custom rom.
Is there a chance that I would encounter the same problem as I'm running on CM7?
I apologise for having so many questions. It is my only phone and I'm afraid that I'd brick it.
Thanks again for the help, really appreciate it.
Got another question.
For kernels, is there anything I have to take note of?
Like will my current one affect anything like it not being compatitble with paranoidandroid?
Read the ParanoidAndroid thread (first page in particular; but as much of it as you need to in order to get an answer), normally compatible kernels in those threads.
Learning is fun.

Thank you for your reply.
If my kernel is not compatible (kernel automatically changed when I flashed CM7.1.0), what do I have to do?
I have read the first page of the thread and also ran a search on my kernel (2.6.35.7-g1e46077 [email protected] #1) in that thread.
Sadly, there were no answers as to whether my kernel was compatible.
Hmm, just wondering, if cm7.1 came with a compatible kernel, would flashing into ParanoidAndroid actually come with a compatible kernel as well?
Find the ParanoidAndroid discussion thread (not the development thread; You'll quite rightly get baked if you post a question like this there), and post asking if the kernel you want to use is compatible with the rom.
Or you could always read the thread. XDA search is complete/utter poorly coded rubbish (and I'm being very kind in saying this), I'm not surprised you didn't get meaningful results from a search.
Edit - Yes, I think you'll find the rom will come with its own kernel which is (obviously) compatible. But lots of people change kernels for all kinds of reasons. Up to you.
I tried finding their SGS II discussion thread but was unable to find it. (Only managed to find one for LG Optimus One)
From what I understand so far after reading around, is it true that my current Android version (2.3.7), Kernel and Mod version will not affect the process of flashing into a new rom?
Like will everything change after flashing into a new rom? In this case would be the Android, Kernel and Mod versions will change according to what the ParanoidAndroid rom is of?
If my understanding is correct, can I proceed with these steps:
RECOVERY: FACTORY RESET IF YOU WERE USING ANOTHER ROM!
RECOVERY: Install Rom: Download
RECOVERY: Install Gapps, ALWAYS-EVEN FOR UPDATES: Download (find the latest one that carries the "jb" tag)
RECOVERY: Wipe Cache Partition
RECOVERY: Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot and enjoy.

[Q] New on this forum, some question about installing custom ROM (VanillaRootbox)

Hi, Guys
I'm new on this forum.. Today, i just rooted my galaxy SII, and flashed my kernel to Siyah kernel...
I had a lot of questions, because i wouldnt do anything wrong, because there was is chance that my phone was hardbricked because the eMMC
Thanks to several members, who helped me trough the process it finally worked...
So the first steps are made...
This is my current info about my phone:
- Modelnr: GT-I9100
- Android-version: 4.0.4
- Baseband-version: I9100XXLQ6
- Kernelversie: Siyah-s2-v4.1.5+
- Buildnr: IMM76D.XWLPW
So i would upgrade my phone to JellyBean and install VanillaRootbox.
So here are my questions:
- Does anybody know, if my mobile supports Vanilla Rootbox (Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903162&page=773) ? Because my baseband version is XXLQ6? Does it support all basebands? (If i can't call are sms, that is quiet painfull, not?)
- What about the language? When i will install that custom rom, does it change my language? Or, are there other languages provided?
- In the installation guide, i have to install jb gapps, which file should i download? Link: http://goo.im/gapps
Should i take "CyanogenMod 9.0.x => Android 4.0.3-4": the current version that i have? or "CyanogenMod 10.0.x => Android 4.1.2": the version that the rom i would like to install?
Sorry for so many questions, but this is the first time that i'm doing this...
The current rom that is installed on my phone is still the stock rom...
Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, ur phone Does support 'Vanilla Root box', baseband is not an issue with it ma8
for language u can always select the same while configuring the phone on the first run
for Jb apps u can have "CyanogenMod 10.0.x => Android 4.1.2"

Hi Sun! Welcome back, thanks for guiding me for my other topic... i really appreciate your help...
I backupped my efs with hkctool, also started in recovery mode with cwm and took a backup to external sd.
So am i ready to install that custom rom?
So how should i install? With the app "rom manager" or start in recovery mode?
If i start in recovery mode, this should be the steps, right?
- wipe data/factory settings
- format/system (cant find that in recoverymode)
- install zip from sd-cart (the rootbox zip file)
- install zip from sd-cart (CyanogenMod 10.0.x => Android 4.1.2 => that i downloaded from that site)
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache (cant find that in recoverymode)
- reboot
where can i find format/system and wipe dalvik cache?

[Q] How to Install SuperNexus 4.0 - I9100 - Build 1

Hi!
I'm a owner of Samsung Galaxy S2, GT-i9100. I always installed a stock unbranded firmware. The last firmwares I installed using MobileOdin from phone. I'm not at advance user for flashing and modding the phone. I never do a wipe or something more advance. My phone is rooted, because MobileOdin allow that.
Now I would like to install the SuperNexus 4.0 - I9100 - Build 1 firmware. I thinks is I looking for a lite firmware with out bloatware and a update Android version.
Reading the post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2583611 I have some doubts.
The instruction are:
Instructions:
First time installing SuperNexus 4.0 to your device, or coming from another ROM:
- Copy Google Apps and SuperNexus ROM into your internal SD Card
- Boot into Recovery (Volume up + Home + Power)
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your device will be stuck at boot)
- Flash SuperNexus ROM
- Flash Google Apps package
- Reboot your device
It is possible to install the with MobileOdin this firmware?
If not, I have installed: Room Manager from play.google.com (Premium) for my phone, that is needit?
The flash SuperNexus ROM and Google Apps is at the same time?
Thanks in advance!

The instructions are quite simple and straight forward... Just follow it.. u dont e1 need a pc to flaash the rom into ur phone. Y try odin when u can do it with just the phone???
And Rom manager is not needed for this..
Turn the phone off first. And then boot(turn ur phone on) into recovery mode as mentioned in the instructions by keeping al 3 buttons(vol up + home + power) pressed..
ur phone then boots into recovery.. 'Wipe data and factory reset' option can b seen right ther.. Jus select it..
once done,
(u might hav to flash a kk supporting kernel b4 flashin the supernexus rom.. u can get this here.
Flash tn from ur sdcard by selecting 'install zip' option and selecting the kernel file. Once done, goto advanced->reboot recovery. Once it reboots,)
goto 'instal zip' again and select the supernexus rom zip file there and wait for it to complete flashing..
then goto advanced->wipe dalwik cache.
then flash gapps in a similar way and again wipe dalvik cache and then reboot system from main recovery menu.
Its quite simple!
all the best! :good:
^^^^
Good advice.
Also, OP - remove Rom Manager from your phone right now. Unless you'd like to end up with bootloop, busted recovery & possible data loss (caused by not doing backups & having to do a factory reset in order to fix your phone). Rom Manager does not play nice with the I9100.
Thanks! I installed with out issues the ROM. It's great. My major doubt was how to update de CWM.
Again, thanks!
I need to resolve the camera issue, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2583611&page=8, the message #73.
I try to delete o remplace the camera apk and is not possible. I am using ES File Explorer with root privilegies but I can rename, delete or copy to /system/apps directory.
I need to use other application?
thanks!
