Glass Replacement - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hello
Was wondering if anyone had replaced their glass before on their Note 2 and if they had any suggestions of the process. I have watched several videos regarding the procedure and feel fairly confident in performing the task but figured I would reach out and see if there were any other suggestions or things to keep in mind during the process.
Wife dropped hers in the driveway, 3 car wide, and I could hear the glass breaking all the away across it. Everything works good, just shattered the glass.

You have to get a heat pad to heat up the glue to be able to take the screen off then you have to get little plastic like guitar picks and go around the outer rim to take it out you should be able to figure it out from there

You can also look online for videos on how to replace screen glass for note 2

Keep in mind unless you do it absolutely perfectly you're going to break the digitizer or LCD and need a full replacement. Also keep in mind unless you have a 100% dust free environment and UV adhesive, you're not going to be completely happy with the results even if you're successful.

It can be done but you have to be oh SOOOOOOO careful and pretty much perfect. The digitizer and glass beneath are so very delicate.
I removed the glass from my broken screen/digitizer and trust me it would be hard to do this without breaking the screen/digitizer.
If I had to do it with a good screen I would use a very thin blade instead of a spudger. So instead of prying through the glue, I'd cut through so there is no pressure being placed on the screen/digitizer.
Also the glue has to be heat up pretty good and who knows what's too hot for the screen. Anyway it's worth a shot imo

This is true..
Also this is the adhesive you would need

That's for the outer edge, I'm talking about between the glass and the digitizer.

I believe that the glass, screen, and digitizer are all one piece. You have to replace it all at once.

That's obviously not true
It's clearly easier and maybe more practical to get it preassembled but not a must.
As far as the changing the glass as the OP is asking, it can be done. Doing it can save you ~$130

I had mine done by Samsung for 179. Looks brand new and it was faster than expected

Its not that hard. Use a one of the snapable razors so you can control depth. Buy glass off of amazon eparts as they have the adhesive on the glass. Heat it up over and over. Also do this in a room after having the shower on. Only takes like 15 min

Deckoz2302's suggestion to do the work in your bathroom, after running the shower, is a good one. The steam helps get rid of floating dust in the air.
Also, get a can of compressed air to shoot in the phone before you finally reassemble it just to be sure no stragglers got in there.
This is also helpful when applying screen protectors etc.
Please post your results when you're done!

Welp took out some courage drink last night and did it. Took me about two hours taking my time. Would have been better if it wasn't so shattered, but nevertheless it turned out great.
Attached a in progress and completed picture.
Thanks for the advise. Glad to only spend 5 bucks on this repair instead of 200~!

How much abuse can/ has your vibrant taken?

I ask because today I dropped it off my bike riding down a hill then ran it over both tires on the screen and not a single scratch no screen protector. These are tough little phones

Barely any. Not a scratch or ding to be seen thanks to the screen protector and $3 case.
Battery got loose but I put it back in and started up fine took maybe 15 seconds tops. These phones are amazing

I've had mine since the week before the official release. I'd had a Behold II under contract and thankfully fussed at the right T-Mobile corporate people at the right time, and they basically gave me the Vibrant to shut me up.
Anywho, this thing has bounced off of countless things as well as survived a bathtub dump and an accidental washing with the laundry (disassembly required for proper drying out afterwards on both occasions). Has two tiny nicks on the chrome trim and one tiny scuff on one of the backplates.
Still runs like a champ! Best phone I've ever had.
I agree. My dad got this off a friend for 100$ flat and neither him nor I regret it. After all its been through it only has some minor nicks on the crome sides and a small scratch on the backplate. Best phone ive ever had

Hope it can last just one year longer. Then I'll be getting myself an iPhone 5.
My device as stood up against a couple of small drops. There are 1 or 2 dings in the chrome bezel, but, other than that... it's still flawless, and I've had this thing since a day or two after US release. I stopped using the rubber case, since I'm usually pretty careful (except the 2 dings)... and what's the point of buying a super sleek, ultra thin phone, just to bulk it up with giant case. I also don't use screen protectors, and my screen is still flawless. I mean, the Galaxy S series has Gorilla Glass... which is scratch resistant. Besides, screen protectors reduce picture quality, and touch response.

I love my vibrant but the only reason I like it is because of our awesome devs. before I learned how to flash and everything I ****ing hated this thing. the nexus phones are the only ones that work great out of the box and even then I think it needs tweaking before everything is great. I'm going with the iPhone next because I want something easy out of the box that doesn't require much work.
the way I see it is
Rooted, flashed and tweaked android phone >>>>>>>>>>>> iphone
out of the box
iphone >android
only by a little though
I like android more too, but with every device there are tradeoffs. I'm willing to be in apple's walled garden for now haha
I got my Vibrant right around when it launched. Put a Zagg shield on it and that Samsung carbon fiber looking case the same day. Actually replaced the battery on it two months ago and i finally took the case off to clean it. Not a scratch and still looks new. I didnt even pamper the phone. I just think the hardware was solid and im sure a good case helped keep the plastic looking shiny. Hope my new GNex looks as good in another year.
I dropped mine in molten lava, let it sit for a day in a bag of rice, and its good as new.
Vibrant is a freaking defy on crack. I've stepped on it, last Christmas I dropped it slipped from my pocket onto a pile of rocks I was on top of my garage, its tooken a million and one drops. It bounced off my stairs once and my little nephews flung it across the room. Amazing phone. :')

Gorilla glass not so tough...

Sorry need to vent and before anyone asks, I have ordered some accessories already, no ones got anything locally. So here goes my story.... By accident I dropped my phone on a mat and it bounced lightly and hit the gym floor, I was sitting down so my phone was only about 12" from the mat. Anyways long story short I have a nice 4mm scratch on my screen...
I have had a few phones with gorilla glass thats been dropped harder and no scratches.. Like my infuse that got its housing dented and landed face down. (wasn't my fault, friend dropped it) Im so pissed right now, this thing is only 2 days old.

It is possible to scratch Gorilla Glass; Corning's marketing materials call it "scratch resistant". My Photon 4G has Gorilla Glass and the previous owner managed to scratch it.

You could have dropped it on some miniscule piece of sharp metal or something... who knows.
That first scratch is always the worst ;(
Man, sorry to hear about your GNote. I would be distraught. Everyone be careful with your new phones! AND get your screen protectors on.
First cut is the deepest
Could it be possible that the scratch happened from another incident where you wouldn't expect damage at all and you never really noticed till you dropped it then closely examined it? For example.. Sliding it into your jeans pocket while the face of the phone scrapes along the copper stud at the top of the fob/ticket/watch pocket (the small one)...
That has totally happened to me a long time ago with my blackberry, was PISSED that I had a long ass scratch on my screen and was puzzled as to how it came to be. Until I slide it in my pocket only to notice it happen again and realized lol
But, again, that was just an example of a seemingly harmless but destructful act.
I was going to say you must have a nice gym where the floor is made of diamonds...
Sorry about the scratch, tho. Your scratch looks just like mine - which I can't actually see if the display is on. Hopefully yours isn't too bad.
I don't see how because you happened to scratch your screen it equates to the device not having gorilla glass at all. Its not indestructible ya' know.

To be fair, though, your post title looks like you're trolling. I'd suggest changing it if you can...nothing wrong with venting, but spreading misinformation is kind of uncool even though you're frustrated (and I can definitely relate to that). Maybe "Gorilla Glass isn't as tough as I thought..." and then show an HD video of the vball game shot with your Note just because you can.

My Captivate is 1 1/2 years old. I've never had a screen protector near it. I've dropped the thing a dozen times, it even slid 15 feet on it's face on an asphalt covered hill. I stuck it in and out of my pocket over 1,000 times and it doesn't have one scratch on the glass.
I was really hoping we would get the same protection on the Note.
Guess I am going to re-think the whole screen protector thing. Bummer!

Notice: doing this will void your warranty .
Materials :
Metal Polish Cream
Prograde xfine sand sponge
Twelve pack of Corona beer (optional)
1: Disassemble the phone this step is kind of simple follow this video
http://youtu.be/SpeT5Stmf2I
and be careful with the bottom plastic as its kind of weak .
2: Using sand paper xtrafine sand the whole frame , this step will take some time so be patient and keep sanding also remember to sand the red kick stand but be really careful because its really thin and bends easily .
3: When you finish sanding the frame and you're satisfied with the result you can start using the Metal Polish Cream apply to the frame and using a cloth to polish it the metal will become dark now turn the cloth around and keep polishing until its shining and stop releasing the dark residue .
*
despite the pictures were taken with an iCrap , but it looks better in hand .
*MIUI not included

Def looks sweet. I'm with the other guy though, idk if I have the nerve to take my phone completely apart! lol How smooth does the finish come out? Hard to tell from the pics because they are so close up.
I've actually been thinking about doing this. If you have it totally apart you can wet sand the frame with 1500/2000 grit sand paper to get it much smoother then use a dremel with the polishing wheel to get out the finer scratches out and make it look like chrome.
But you need to be careful because if you sand to much it would thin the metal and then see gaps in between pieces
I made that mistake with my nexus one and the back part of it was so thin that the plastic part did not attach back to it

Looks nice! FYI, to anyone looking to do this.... easy Off oven cleaner will straight eat the anodized red off the kickstand leaving you with bare metal and no sanding required... Simply polish after that.
As far as the teardown....
Pop the bottom off, remove the 4 screws with a T5 torx bit. Remove the 5 at the top. Then, push down on the back back the bottom speaker to push the screen out the front. Once the housing is free from the screen and its components, remove the kickstand by taking out 4 more screws. Its so simple.

[SOLVED] HTC Rezound: Fixing Broken Camera Glass

Hello,
I asked about this on another topic, but I figured it was alittle too off-topic to discuss on there, so I'm starting a new one based on the question I asked. So the camera glass on my Rezound is cracked. NOT THE LENS ITSELF, just the glass that is in front of it. The crack does not show up in pictures, unless the camera lens is aiming directly at a light source. So, is there any way I can fix this, like buy a new glass "cover" for it online somewhere and replace it? And if someone knows how to do this, can you please give me step-by-step instructions on how to replace the glass? I just want to make sure that I don't break anything, as I've never had to take my phone APART before.
I talked to a guy at my local Cellairis stand about this, and he said it is just not possible to do replace the glass in front of the lens (he took off the back cover, took a quick 2-3 millisecond look, and gave it back). Again, I'm no expert on this, but it appears possible to take the red casing on the inside of the phone off, because when you take off the back cover there are 4 miniature screws around the edge of it. So by the guy saying it's not possible, I'm not sure if he meant taking off the back cover and all, or actually finding a replacement glass for it.
I've seen threads on this for similar phones like the Thunderbolt, but I don't want to take any chances in breaking my Rezound because there is probably some differences between a Thunderbolt and a Rezound.
A picture of the camera crack. There are 2 cracks going through, forming an X like shape. I know it is hard to see, the phone I took the picture of it with is not the best camera-phone around (LGL35G):

Well, tholmes very generously let me purchase a middle plate from him. It is perfect. Was the exact fix to the problem. No more glare lines!!!
Outdoors scene picture. It was exceptionally bright when I took the picture, which would reveal small glare lines around the bottom left (not as obvious as taking a picture directly looking into a light source, but they were there). Now it looks perfect:
Picture of the camera directly looking into a light source. This would create very obvious glare lines before but now:
A look through the old cracked camera glass (as best I could) at the same light source as the picture above. You can easily tell where the glare lines would have been just by looking through the glass lens on the old plate:
Glad your problem is solved!

Soft GG5? think again (advantages of GG5)

I agree, while it's frustrating that a screen may get scuffed up it would be more frustrating if one drop killed my phone and made it unusable.
That video is for more scientific than the scratch test, and I hope to see another more scientific scratch test in the near future now that Corning is saying the metal actually transferred to the glass and not the other way around.
Definitely impressive for the note 7. However I feEl like scratch resistance is just as important as drop resilience. Especially on a phone with a curved screen where good screen protectors are hard to come across. I know the scratches are generally hard to see but for me I'm OCD and will see the micro scratches when the screen is black and it bothers the hell out of me. I've had quite a few accidents with my note 5 and it has held up just fine. Hell i even ran over half the phone with my truck lol. All it did was cracked my car and screen protector.

That's very unfortunate. The edges of the screen are much more vulnerable. A case with good side protection is a must for me with a glass phone even if it covers up the beauty of it

Actually, that the entire display didn't spider web is pretty amazing so GG5 does work. The Achilles heal on curved glass phones is that the glass rather than a metal frame can actually take an impact. I dropped my Note5 the same distance as yours but half on grass and half on concrete and it landed on the back right corner. It spider webbed from the impact past the camera lens. We wanted pretty phones and we got them.

That's great... so it can take a further 50 drops... the damage was already done on the first drop so this argument is pointless!
Phone is essentially ruined on first drop so what good is GG5 there? GG4 would have probably had a similar result, the upshot being if you don't drop your phone you don't have to worry about scratches with GG4.

that was somewhat poor wording on my part
my "shatter" referred to the cracking that appeared on the edges even though the entire screen fell face first onto the concrete. On previous GG3-GG4 devices the screen would crack all the way throughout the screen rendering it useless (actually shattering the entire glass display).
Im not saying GG5 is superior to GG4, all im saying is that each of them appear to have their benefits

The argument certainly isn't pointless if you're someone who doesn't have insurance and therefore would need to use a cracked screen for as long as possible after the damage has been done. I read it will cost $270 to replace the screen if you go through Samsung directly. Here's an example of when it would come in very handy. If I dropped my phone and the screen was cracked but totally visible and usable as the video showed, I may be inclined to use it in it's current state until the price to replace the screen goes down, or until I want to sell the phone so I'll replace the screen to re-sell to hopefully make some money or break even.
Compared to an event that would render the phone useless therefore requiring me to immediately pay the $270 immediately after the drop, or if I can't afford that swallow the $900 I just sank into the phone itself.
Just my .02 to play devils advocate.
Is it not so much easier to protect against fall damage though and less intrusive to the user experience to run a case and no screen protector?
Let's be honest, most note 7 users will be using a case anyway due to the expanse of exposed glass on this device so GG4 or GG5 shock resistance is less relevant.
What we note users do have as a common interest is the Spen and running with a screen protector degrades the experience.
So a note device should lean towards a harder glass choice.
Just my 2 penny's worth
I've withdrawn my pre order for now until real world reviews come in of the screens durability. At least I can play with my IR blaster on the note 4 a little longer
