[Q] The phone refuses to both charge and start up. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What happen before the problem presented itself was me being on Kik, reading my messages there. After reading all of them, I went out of the program, and onto my app drawer. Suddenly, the screen became all black. I tried pressing the power button, with no luck. I then disconnected my phone from the charger, pulled the battery, put it back in and then tried the power button, still no luck. (I also tried booting to both recovery and download modes. No luck).
Before this happened, the phone wasn't hot (at all), so this isn't due to overheating. It's also not an app misbehaving, as I haven't installed anything new in ages, and what I do have installed are apps from well-known developers/companies, so it's not malware either.
The phone itself was running on DorimanX kernel (a month or so old release) with Resurrection Remix 4.0.5. It was also underclocked to 800mhz.
Does anyone know if I can fix it? (I did a search, and noone had THIS exact problem so I haven't tried much)

If the phone won't even boot you're probably SOOL. Try King Rat's hotboot method (search) where you try to jumpstart the phone with the charger minus the battery. Maybe even try another battery (at least you'll have a spare when you get it fixed.
If it doesn't boot, there's not really anything anyone here can say/suggest. There are no miracle fixes in these situations.

Vibrant keeps rebooting?

Well apparently, after flashing the latest AOKP for my phone, it keeps on rebooting itself at random time, and at other times, doesent boot at all. When I put it on charge, it shows the battery for a few seconds. I am unable to get in to recovery as it basically reboots there as well. In Download mode, I restored stock 2.1 FW and bootloaders carefully, but nothing, its still giving me an issue? Any advice, might just move on to the Galaxy Nexus
Did you do any flagrant battery pulls lately? Maybe check the contacts or that the battery fits snugly. Doubt that flashing caused it, but maybe something with the kernel power source.
I got it to boot into stock recovery, but after that nothing. Is there a way to fix it, i even tried a replacement battery but no cigar. Phone has plenty of potential.

[Q] T959 Phone doesn't load

I am pretty sure that someone has posted something similar to my problem, but I can't find anything that gives a straight up answer or seems to kind of deviation of the problem.
So I do have cyanagen mod 10 stable installed on my phone and it has been great... No problems what so ever. I'm not sure if something happened or if it was something that I had changed, but the only thing system wise that I had changed was under the ROM Tool Box, I had edited the screen settings to change the dpi of the screen. However, everything worked fine after it changed and rebooted. In fact, I loved the fact that screen was now "bigger..." Meaning that it made the icons and text smaller.
So, now the problem comes, now the phone doesn't load up. The battery died and I plugged the phone into charge it and it turned on like normal with the little loading image of a circle (like the one you seen when a flash file is loading) and then it blinked and did it again, but then nothing. Normally if you let it sit for a second and press the power button, it would show an image of the battery charging. But it doesn't. If I press and hold the power button, it starts to laod up and says "Samung Vibrant" then goes black, and then repeats Samung Vibrant again and again....
Now I am not a super genius on the android thing, but I have flashed many different ROMs and thought I had bricked my phone many times as well, but always have been able to bring it back to life. I am actually starting to think of my phone as "Frankenstien" since it has died and came back so many times...
Now, I have tried to reboot into recovery mode but doing the volume + and - and power, didn't work.
I have tired to boot into download as well...
The phone can be plugged into the computer and it recognizes it as far as sending out a charge to "charge" the phone, but it does not recognize it in Kies or in Odin. I reinstalled the drivers as well and still not recognized... I know the phone is "old" as far as that goes, but it was working fine and currently unemployed, so every penny counts.
Suggestions?

[Q] Samsung S2 stuck in boot loop, cannot access Recovery Mode.

Hey Guys, ive scoured google for 2 days now trying to find a way to fix my phone.
two days ago i was doing some work and i left my phone on the table, and later i found out that the battery was low and it had shut off. But when i looked at it, it was just flashing the "samsung galaxy s2 gt-i9100" text logo. (and not the animation circle logo.)
I tried turning it off, didnt work so i thought it had frozen which happens, so i took out the battery and put it back in again.
Then i tried to plug it into my recharger, and it was showing a grey battery icon and was frozen on that screen always, the screen doesnt turn off, the battery icon isn't showing that its charging. doesnt change, just shows the same empty battery grey icon with the refresh circle-arrow in the middle.
I tried taking the battery out leaving it out for 5 minutes, draining the battery from the phone by holding the power button for 10 seconds, then trying to charge the phone. Same issue, only showing the grey battery icon when trying to charge and it never changes or goes away.
SO i tried to boot up the phone, but it wont go past the samsung text logo.
I tried entering recovery, but it just freezes on the samsung text logo.
I can enter Odin download mode, and ive tried installing several different both stock, original and CMW roms, and nothing changes. (except if i use gingerbread, then the grey battery icon just keeps flashing off and on in 5 second intervals when plugged into the charger.)
Ive tried taking the battery out for 8 hours and try booting it, no change.
Ive tried changing the battery, no change (think it has low bat as well maybe).
Ive tried leaving it plugged in overnight, but that only drained whatever power i had left over in one of the batteries.
Ive tried some of the siyah and doriman kernels, and they add a loading bar which gets full on the samsung text screen,
but then freezes after that.
Im losing my mind here, ive tried almost everything i can think of. And would really appreciate any help on this.
UPDATE
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok so to keep this post updated for people experiencing the same issues.
IT seems there is a hardware failure in progress.
BUT i managed to get a temporary fix, it seems that by having the ear plugs connected into the earphone jack in the phone, the phone becomes somewhat usable. I was able to get into recovery, and able to flash a new stock, and its up and running, but as i said this is only a temporary solution as the real issue is that the phone is not conducting the electricity in a proper way that allowed me to recharge my batteries until i had added the earphones...
The phone becomes unusable for me when i remove the earphones again, as i believe its failing to conduct the electricity from the battery properly through the motherboard without something connected into the earphone jack..
SO for people having issues with their phones, it might be a possible way to get your phone temporarily operational again.

Search for Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread, download the 3 part stock firmware linked in the thread, flash it with Odin (only if you absolutely have an I9100/I9100T though).
Edit - Doesn't sound promising though, cross your fingers doing that works.
yeah i tried hoppers guide, didnt help me.
Still stuck on the samsung screen.
Whats wierd is, if ive got the phone on charging, it wont boot to the samsung screen even, it just turns itself off
and returns to the grey battery icon again.
Hang on....Did you try flashing the 3 part firmware like I mentioned ? If you haven't, do it. If you have, it's a service centre/local mobile repair shop job.

Yeah, tried 3 part, even another packages with pit files bootloader and repartitioning from another guide.
still no change, still freezes at samsung text screen.
I dont want to take it to a service center, as there is none around here as far as i know. Norway.
If i can just get it into recovery mode i can prob fix it, but i cant fracking enter recovery. Its driving me insane.
Given what you've tried, no chance of fixing it yourself by the usual methods.
Either take it to a local mobile repair shop & ask them to source a 2nd hand motherboard for you & put it in, or you source one (from a 'donor' phone; a phone with a broken screen that is otherwise OK for example, search online) & either replace it yourself or pay the local mobile repair shop to do it if you're not confident enough.
have you ever flashed a rom on that before..... or is this a stock ROM phone we are talking about???
if it was a stock ROM phone....then did it receive updates over carrier network and started to install itself???
if yes then you should have not stopped it...... i have some problem with phone 3 days ago.... i downloaded latest XWMS1 released for nordic region....... phone is fixed and i am back to neatrom 5.3.1
i suggest you download XWMS1 ...and try flashing it via Odin..... might start......
keep fingers crossed

It wasn't any update or anything, it was related to the battery i think as the batt was low.
And instead of recharging the battery, it went into bootloop and started draining the battery more when it was plugged into the charger.
ive downloaded xwms1, still stuck in bootloop.
Ive even opened it up to see if it was a hardware issue, i see no flaws, all buttons work and nothing is stuck.
the phone just keeps going to the samsung logo, and wont go into recovery mode.
It can easily go into download mode, but recovery mode is just not happening.
at this point i just ordered the Xperia Z1 instead, but i still want to fix this phone and give it to my dad or something.

errrrm - just a thought (and it's a real long shot) I had some strange battery drain (bootloop) issues with a brand new i9100 and it turned out that the micro sd card I was using was corrupt, took it out and it worked. Might be worth a try but like I said its a long shot. If that does not work I agree with mistahbungle and looks like you wil need to replace the mb.

I've went through this on my Hercules, T-Mobile S2. I had Android tweaker pro, removed all of the tweaks, and rebooted. It took me quite a while but I was able to get into recovery by the normal button mashing.
DO NOT HAVE THE PHONE PLUGGED INTO THE CHARGER.
PRESS THE VOLUME BUTTONS THEN THE POWER BUTTON WHILE STILL HOLDING THE VOLUME BUTTONS.
AS SOON AS YOU FEEL THE FIRST VIBRATION, LET GO OF ONLY THE POWER BUTTON!
CONTINUE TO HOLD THE VOLUME BUTTONS UNTIL YOUR RECOVERY LOADS.
THAT IS WHAT HAS WORKED FOR ME.

Please Help !!
i kinda cloned my ROM , it happened by mistake while trying to flash my kernel , now that my phone is stuck in samsung start up logo , . tried to reboot still the same result. . . :crying:
No recovery ? If that's the case, stock rom from Samfirmware, flash with Odin to get a 'clean slate' (How ? Thread stickied near top of Q&A has instructions) & re-try whatever it was you wanted to do. If you do have recovery, try a factory reset in the first instance, if that doesn't work or if you have recovery but can't do one for whatever reason, proceed with the stock flash via Odin.
Thanks
thanks a lot mate , my fone back in action. successfully flashed, now running on JB 4.3.1 on Paranoidandroid 3.99-RC2 , so far so good .:victory:
being a newbei in this field hoping for all the support
EDIT : any suggestion how to remove warning symbol (yellow triangle) while booting .
Possibly triangle away.Search to get the free version.

A friend of mine had am Android phone that had a similar problem. It always showed the headphones on the status bar and Could not be heard. If you will take your phone apart then you can look for bridges in the solder points. These happen from poor construction and over heating. Fix the bridges and you should be good to go.

I did take it apart and had a quick look, all seems ok. However I was not ready to junk the phone so I improvised a little, its not pretty but it works.
I had an old headphone jack which I cut down so as it would just fit into the jack point, installed Soundabout Pro app which forces the calls to come out the earpiece and not headphones voila it works. In the end it cost me a lot of time surfing countless forums, anger management control and some joy at getting it to work. Still without the help people give on this and other forums it would be a useless phone :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Not working after loading flash

Hello,
I was flashing my GSII, and selected CyanogenMod.zip with the pid file in Odin. It seemed to be ok, and the next step was to reboot the phone, however, it is not rebooting. The screen is black, nothing is showing. I tried 2 different batteries... nothing. Buttons, volume up, down combinations, and nothing.
Any ideas? - is the phone dead?
Sounds cactus to me. Service centre.
Or you could search for KingRat's method to 'jump start' the phone with the charger minus the battery. Highly unlikely to work but worth a shot. So is a jig. But manage your expectations, the phone is more than likely toast.
Edit - Have you tried connecting phone to PC & firing up Odin/seeing if it registers ?
Thank you for the reply. I will look up the jump start method.
As far as odin goes, I didn't try it because phone is not showing any life signs, so i didn't bother. I'll try and report back, however, everything is showing towards a dead motherboard... I woke up today thinking of new ROM, and now I'm looking for the successor to my GS2
Yep sounds like something major on the MB has carked it, unfortunately. But try those things anyway, you never know.

Nothing is working. I tried King Rat's "jump start" several times, It's not working. And also, there is no communication with Odin.
However there is one weird thing. Earlier today when I gave up with trying to fix GS2, I removed the SIM card, and left the battery in, and I left it on the shelf. Now, when I went to get it to try the suggested stuff, the Phone was warm. I don't know why. Battery was warm, and the area around the camera was warm. Since I got two batteries (original and replacement), I tried the following:
I - cool down the phone and put the replacement in, after several minutes, nothing hot...
II - cool down the phone and put the original battery in, after several minutes, also, nothing not
Something is happening, and I don't know what.

[Q]Galaxy S2 i9100 keeps rebooting on standby

Hello, yesterday I cleared some cache using some app called "App Cache Cleaner - 1 Tap Clean" because my Dad's phone was low on storage, and it cleaned allright and then I umnounted the 2GB SD Card and then rebooted the phone. I don't know if this could be the cause, but ever since I did it the phone always reboots when the phone autolocks (or someone locks it). Sometimes it even reboots and stays black (note when someone calls you don't get a message that the subscriber is offline, it keeps ringing!) and then I have to hold the power button long enough for the phone ro reboot...
I removed the SD Card, tried factory reset, but nothing seems to work. The phone was never rooted or with a different ROM than the officials,. so I honestly have no idea why it keeps rebooting and doing stuff like that. It's on the latest available Android firmware -- 4.1.2.
What can I do to fix it?
Clean battery contacts with isopropyl alcohol, then try replace battery, then replace USB board/port - which is a relatively easy fix to do yourself for around 10 bucks (if you pay someone else to do it, labour could easily take this up to $70/80 or even more depending on labour costs in your country). If you decide to do this, KeithRoss39 has a guide in the General section (search for 'replacing USB charger board') that has all the info you need to get it done.
The other thing you could try before replacing the USB board is to flash stock firmware manually with Odin/in download mode (assuming you haven't already done this/the updates you've done up until now have been via Kies).
If I had to bet money though. I'd be wagering the battery (particularly if it's getting on age-wise) or the USB board (which is a common fault with Samsung phones).
Seriously, that is the only thing to do? I mean, it was okay yesterday and this suddenly hapenned... How can I be sure that it's from the USB Charger Board? And also, the phone won't reboot while I'm using it, but as soon as I lock it and wait a while, it reboots. I just tried wiping the phone again, and it even does that on the setup screen at the beginning... :crying:
Okay, I flashed a stock rom with Odin, as suggested, but it's doing the same thing... Now it's even worse! When I push the lock button when the phone is on, the phone freezes immediately and you can hear the lock sound looping over and over and over again. I have to hold the lock/power button for the phone to reboot... but it does that every time. Even when I don't press the lock/power button, only leave it to lock on its own, it does it again. It charges the battery just fine, I recharged it last night and it has 100% baterry... what could this be?
