[Q] Help! Either brick or bootloop. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was trying to root my mother's samsung galaxy s 3 using the toolkit version 7.0.0.
I only backed up internal storage and apps. I forgot to do a nandroid back up before I tried the all in one.
On the toolkit, her device wasn't completely supported. It's JZO54K. Android 4.1.2 and it's sprint lte. Her build number wasn't there.
So the guy OP in the toolkit says to use the one closest to you. So I used international 4.1.2 JZO54K.
I got to the odin part, it failed the first time. So I restarted everything. Then tried again. It said RESET as the toolkit said it would. But it was blue instead of green. I though he just made a mistake in the toolkit so I closed it. But it never restarted like it said it would. So I tried to turn on the s3 and it wouldn't do anything. I did a battery pull and tried again. It just flashed samsung for about a second and disappears. Then does absolutely nothing. I tried going into download and recovery mode. Neither worked. Just flashing "samsung" for a second and does nothing.
Help me! This is my mom's device that she wanted me to root and she needs it to work.
UPDATE! I can get it into download mode but nothing else

I know I posted this literally 6 minutes ago and I don't know if anyone can help me now.
But I really need help fast. My skype is JeremyIsLate

This is the international gt-i9300 forum. We can't help. Please try your sprint s3 forum.

It says I may not post a new thread there and nobody there seems to have my problem.
If you can tell me anything I can do to at least get the phone to boot to android, it will be very much appreciated.

Samsung is now offering free repairs on bricked phones. The first time it's free but, the second time you'll have to pay.
I don't know if this will help you but if nothing works you can always try it
Good Luck!

friend bricked his s3.....

Hello all, I was walking my friend through rooting his phone over Google talk. He rooted all went well a few days later he wanted to Rom it. He made a mistake and flashed the international omega Rom on his US ATT samsungi747. His phone is now dead. No way to get into recovery or download mode. Just dead. Bricked. What can I do to help him? As I am partially responsible cause I was helping him. I did not know much about the Rom he was flashing.
I was reading about a possible fix with a jig but can not find a jig for.the Samsung i747.
Please any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

A compatible jig may be your only solution if you can't get into download mode manually. A jig would force the phone into download mode, once in download mode you'd be able to flash the stock AT&T firmware through Odin.

Has anyone ever tried just returning it and saying it randomly died? If they can't turn it on then there's no way to tell it's rooted

A jig is a jig the one I bought for my captivate works 100% on gs3, get the jig put into phone if don't boot into download mode, hold down power button with jig still in if that don't work ur screwed .... your better off trying make ur own jig ( YouTube it ) cause if the phone runs out of battery and won't charge then u have another issue...

Thanks man! I ordered him one. Hopefully it will work. He's also going to make one tomorrow.
A huge thank you to all the people that provided helpful information and friendly advice.
I was actually expecting more ridicule, but it was minimal. . I know we messed up, but I never knew you could "brick" a phone from flashing a Rom.
Anyway thanks again guys! I will keep you posted on if the jig works or not.

The morning I was picking up my phone...a dude walks in and says that his phone doesn't turn on anymore after having it a week. I thought to myself..."he flashed an international ROM...what a douche".
Some people actually have there phones just stop working. Happened to my friend that had a Samsung galaxy nexus, stock unrooted. Just died. There was nothing I could do to fix it.

If you didnt know a rom could brick a phone you shouldnt be flashing period. Theres always ALWAYS bold letters that says this may brick your phone an or we are not responsible if this breaks your phone... no one with there first android should be flashing till they know android smoothly... *sigh*
Usually 90% of the time your always able to get into recovery mode. From what I've read this only happens when flashing the omega Rom. People make mistakes.
I've rooted and rom'd 100s of phones, and never not been able to get back to recovery.

The good and bad of brand new phone on the market. Some people do not like reading and want to be handed the solution.
Noobs....read.....read...read some more....go to bed....get up...read some more...have cookies for snack time....read some more... and then read some more... and for the love of GOD....read some more before flashing anything!
I mean that in the nicest way, becasue I have questions on a semi-regular basis also.

If ppl read things 95% of there questions would be answered. The other 5% could be found by google
I understand telling him to read. And he did so for about a week. He succesfully used odin to root his phone. A few days later he said he wanted to Rom, and asked me how to do a proper back up with titanium backup. I ran him through the backup procedure.
I mean I totally thought that if he made it through the rooting procedure that he was good to go. Rom'ing has always been to me something fairly easy, and if something went haywire, just boot to recovery.
I've had people ask for help that flashed an incomplete or corrupted download, but have always been able to at least power the phone on, or at the very least have it recongnized in adb.
I have been reading and googling about a fix, but information seems minimal on this current circumstance. So I reached out to the community for advice.

Hardbricked Galaxy s3

Okay, Im an ass so I say that up front. I flashed a bad kernel and I hardbricked my 5 day old galaxy s3 fro Tmobile. I took it to the local repair place that does JTAG repairs, which btw, does not work on the weekends. according to them the JTAG'ing takes 40 hours which I think is more because I kept calling and seeing if the phone was showing any signs of life. Anyone know how long the actual JTAG procedure actually takes cause 40 hours seems like a long time to me. Even after they said there was no guarantee that it would work and bring my phone back from the dead.
I am not new to rooting or flashing roms and kernels and things of that nature. So for the record I did not read first about bad kernels floating about so again Im an ass.
First mistake was flashing anything from this forum, this is for the international version ONLY.
Secondly a jtag should bring it back to life.
I'm not sure of the timeframe but 40 hours seems like a lot of time to do anything.

Could you describe how exactly you hardbricked your phone? As far as I know hardbricking is pretty much impossible on the s3 and probably extremely rare (this is the first case I've heard about it).

A kernel won't hardbrick a phone. If you flash a correct kernel it should boot. A way to brick it is to flash a wrong firmware from here. Cause the first thing being flashed on a firmware with odin is bootloader. Then you will have an expensive paperweight.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
afaik s3 has separate kernel and recovery where flashing a kernel dosent touch the recovery , so practically it should not be hard bricked
If I were you I would approach to XDA forum first! where all the " DO DOES " happen!
are you 100% sure its bricked?
I dont really know about it, but from my experience bootloader flash and emmc bug are the only ways to hardbrick S3, flashing wrong kernel should make your phone unbootable, but shouldnt do a **** to your download mode (if flashed right, put under pda in odin), however if you put it under bootloader box, than it might flashed kernel on bootloader partition which deffinatly makes hard brick.

Why he or she doesn't give us the answer?

I bet its not hard bricked, it would just be soft bricked, if the correct firmware is flashed it shud be back to life...

I tried the three combo until my fingers went numb I tried so many cables and computers and then I was like this thing isnt doing ANYTHING no vibration NOTHING. The JTAG didnt take the first time around so now they are still "trying" according to them ofcourse. I tried ODIN but it did not recognize my phone so that was no good. I tried everything I knew to try and that why I finally caved and gave it to the JTAG guys.

Help a n00b out?

Just got my Galaxy Note 2 today..been trying to root it. Unsuccessful. At this point I'm just saying screw it and wanting to go back to stock.
When I boot the phone up it gets to the "Samsung Galaxy Note II" screen and just keeps flashing that every 2-3 seconds. PC recognizes it, Odin recognizes it, can enter download mode.
Everything I try in Odin FAILS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The biggest thing is, just stay relax. It WILL get fixed, it's almost impossible to permanently brick it as long as you stay calm.

Went to some other settings and wiped out couple of things? Sounds like you have no nandroid backup? If not you will need to download your stock firmware and get your device into download mode and reflash that stock firmware using odin. Your device will be as it was from the factory its very important to read and have a Clear understanding of your device and its firmware all things must line up and match. read this if yours is rebooting and unknown imei & baseband!

Mods please move this if necessary
Guys, I have to post this in hopes it will help others.
If you still have this device and had the problem where it reboots once it boots and have no imei and baseband, i solved it. finally!
I tried everything, EVERYTHING initially. i opened the device more times than i can remember. I changed the power button, gave it a chemical bath, removed the sim holder, adjusted every adjustable aspect of it but nothing. this started when i flashed some rom (cant remember which one), and it started rebooting as soon as the os loaded. not a random reboot but as soon as the os loaded, no matter what rom i flashed. thats when i tried all of the posted solutions on the power button issues of this phone. nothing worked. Then when i finally got a stock odin to work, i noticed i had baseband unknown and imei unknown and therefore no sim functions. i began researching and i did everything from flashing every available modem, to flashing all stock roms with odin and with keis, to that trick of forcing an iemi and adding some folder that may have been deleted. i even looked to order the sim holder that people recommended but i never bothered (thankfully) as many said it didnt work. I eventually was advised that my ONLY solution was to jtag it. i almost ordered devices like nspro etc, but alas, i gave up finally and just used it as a tablet with a rudimentary os (the only one that didnt reboot on me ) with abysmal battery life (3 to 4 hours on standby) until i finally left it in a drawer and forgot it for most of the year. Fast forward to yesterday. ill spare the details of why i had to, but basically i took back the challenge to get it working, believing that it was a software problem that i could solve with the help of xda's resources. and after a sleepless night and much research and trials, i finally have a fully working i717 with insane battery life (2% lost on standby overnight). so here's what i did. I used odin to flash this rom (email me for the link, i dont want to break any forum rules) and once it was done, the os began to boot but it stuck on the loading screen. this was actually good news since it wasnt rebooting! i left it for an hour just in case and eventually forced the shut down by holding power button (didnt remove the battery). then i booted into download and used odin to flash cwm recovery (latest one, search for an app to convert the img file to a md5 that odin can use). i booted into recovery and once there i downloaded the miui v5 rom in the development section of this forum, (i chose miui because initially it was the only other rom that didnt reboot, but i SUSPECT that the others should be fine now once i flashed the odin rom) and once it installed and booted, voila! cell reception and i can make and receive calls!. Everything is working perfectly now!! thank God. I left it on miui because i like it and it works as is, but i suppose the other roms like the 4.4 roms should, in theory, work now. in the link i have there is the rom AND a modem as well, i did NOT flash the modem as i didnt need to so you shouldnt have to either. Thanks for reading, and i sincerely hope that i could help someone out with this post. thanks to xda and the contributors who helped me through this ordeal!
Sincerely,
My phone rebooted 3 times while trying to read this. I wasn't sure if you were actually offering help or trying to sell us some new sports bra.
If you have some miracle files then post the link. Why make this an egg hunt? I'm sure the forum would appreciate it.

No need to be rude mate. And its not an 'egg hunt' if you read it you would see that i didnt want to break any forum rules by posting links without permission since i cant contact the owner of the site with the links. I didnt have to post anything atall and i asked for no gratitude in return but a little civility goes a long way.
I read this and thought xda became a blog site!

Follow his initial post and do what he did. He flashed miui rom after he used Odin. Flash a custom recovery. Either cwm or twrp.
I hope it works for you cause it didn't work for me.

Email him for the link to the rom. I forgot what it was. It has been a while. Sorry.
Can you get to download mode? If you can't, then find out which rom he used.
