Hi,
If you're willing to try a new rom, this one has a good gps. Usually locks for me in about 30 sec, and often faster.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44303051#poststop
Note, if the gps has been off for a while (say one day?), the first time it is used again, it needs internet connection (for AGPS to pull in satellite info) to work well. If there is no internet connection, it will take a while to fix.
Subsequently, gps works fine even without network.

Hi. The gps.conf has nothing special inside it. I think the rom itself must have some different gps. Perhaps @ydaud, the rom author, can comment about that.
In any case, I am reproducing the config file for you below:

SUPL_HOST=supl.sonyericsson.com

Let me guess... your xperia V sees satellites with numbers around the 70s...
That's because xperia V has GLONASS support, xperia U only has GPS.

as an overlook my supl was set to google so i am going to set it to sony and see if it any quicker
NTP_SERVER=europe.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
SUPL_PORT=7276
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
inside after 5 seconds it has found 12 on the one you are saying where my original took minutes to find 1
but now wont lock with 22 satellites in view

It's still a mystery to me why sometimes it cannot lock. Have you tried to reboot the phone after changing the supl settings? I've found that this helps, but I have no explanation why.

It does work with wifi on, but it uses only wifi, gps doesn't work, so there is no sense in that.
I'll try your link. thx
Can you tell me please, how should I install gps.conf file? via CWM?
Update aGPS
I had the problem as well.
I downloaded GPS Test and started it.
Go into Menu|Settings

If it still doesn't help, FasterFix from market should be able to be another way to do your gpsconf settings correctly.

Really great app! Thx!
Easy way to change the gpsconf file!
I was having problems with my GPS as well where it would not lock on no matter how long I waited. I did not have this problem when I first got my phone and I'm not sure when the bug was introduced. None of the software fixes worked for me, including the ones discussed here, and the problem persisted across all ROMS, including stock.
Finally I found someone in a forum that recommended removing the battery while the phone was on. I was hesitant to do this for obvious reasons, but my frusteration drove me to desparation and I tried it. To my surprise the GPS works good as ever and typically locks onto my location in less than 10 seconds. Obviously if you can get the software fix to work for you, this is better, but this was the only thing that worked for me. Hopefully this will help someone else.

What should the agps settings in gps.conf be set to?
I already set ATT=0 and used Faster Fix, but still locking/fixing is very slow, sometimes taking hours.
Could this have anything to do with my location? I am in China now, have unlocked the phone so using on a local carrier. Last time I was in the US (using it with ATT) it worked great.
Solved - SGH-I777 GPS fix
The sirfgps.conf ATT_NETWORK_OPERATOR=0 did nothing for me on my AT&T SGH-I777.
I got that GPS fix app and gps worked but its full of spam adverts that show on your notification bar. They appear with a star infront of the spam advert.
I fixed it the old fashion way. By remembering how I fixed my AT&T Galaxy I gps issue.
in /etc/sirfgps.conf leave att_network_operator=1
change, SSL_ENABLED=1
save and exit
in /etc/gps.conf change the following:
SUPL_HOST=www.spirent-ics.com
SUPL_PORT=7275
save and exit.
now I get 7 second gps lock in Miami Fl.

GPS Connection Problems

Hello guys.
I got a Problem with the GPS in several Custom Roms. (Im on a MIUI rom right now) When i enable the GPS, go in the GPS Status & Toolbox App, it shows me usually 8-10 satelites. But it wont Connect not even to one single Satelit. When i flash a Samsung Firmware, it connects without Problems. It takes 10 seconds. When i try, and go to a navigation app, it searches 5 mins for a gps signal. after 5 or more minutes it connects to 1, max. 2 satelites. I already tried the app GPS FIX, but it didnt work for me. Its a really annyoing Problem and i really want to solve it. Does anyone have any Ideas?
Ps: Sry for my bad english, i hope you understand what i mean.

[Q][XPU] GPS after .153 ICS Update

Hello folks,
can anyone confirm if their gps locking works as well as it did in the last version of ICS. I used to get a lock within 10 seconds and after the update it takes as long as 5 minutes. I flashed b.1.10 2 and .154 2 times just to check and it seems .154 has the problem and not 1.10.
Anyone else here facing the same issue?
Try initial lock
I am on GB 2.3.7 so I can't really say. But when I was on ICS B.10, my first lock took 10 minutes and then it was down to 30sec-1min
Download an app called Android Speedometer to find out about satellite status. Do a factory reset and then leave your phone with GPS on
outside for around 20 min to get a first fix. Then it should work fine. Also try procuring the right gps.conf file for your country. I don't know how
to do that, but try searching the forums.
Hope I helped..........
Re:
Even I had the same issue. I'd advice you open gps.conf in system/etc folder and edit the NTP servers with ones which are closer to you Also use GPS Toolkit from Market to clear all previous data and download new AGPS data. The first lock might be slow but future locks will be much faster Best of Luck !
Cheers

Xperia u GPS problem resolved

Hello to all! This is my first post on XDA. I had a problem with fixing a gps on my Xperia U. But not anymore! I tried a lot of apps but nothing worked. After a lot of time of researching i found a link to http://www.pool.ntp.org/en/ where i checked for croatian servers,since i am from Croatia,only to find out that there are not enough servers in my country. So i just put a Slovenian server in my gps.conf file and everything is working perfect. Now the time for first fix i about 15 to 25 seconds and for every other fix only a few seconds. So just put a nearby countrys server in your gps.conf file and you are good to go! I hope i helped!
And where can you change the server of the GPS?
Download Faster GPS an select your continent and after that select any country near yours That should do the trick,it did for me!

Hmm, I'll have to try this. I'm forever not getting a lock. I've currently flashed the latest .100.
This only fixes the problem if you have a data plan (agps), as far as I know the problem still exist without data plan (agps)
It still doesn't seem to work for me

[FIX] GPS & aGPS best performance config.

As you might know, our LG G2 is pretty slow when it comes to GPS. The reasons are both software and hardware. Before definitively losing your phone warranty by fixing the contacts on the antenna cover and in the end having the same problems (the software) I strongly recommend try this configuration.
The file to edit is /system/etc/gps.conf
Just edit that file using a root explorer. Remember to read the first line and make the changes according to your country.

For those having problems editing gps.conf, I have attached my own. Just replace the "ro" (Romania) in the first 2 lines of the file with your country code.
i used to have those problems until change my sim card, with my old sim card it take a long time to lock GPS and then it loose the signal constantly, but after change the sim card, it have a perfect lock time and a perfect signal accuracy
With 5.0.2 I get a lock within 10 seconds with an accuracy of 3 meters. Pretty good, I'd say.

I personally prefer least apps installed as possible so I'll edit gps.conf.

My problem is that when I get the AGPS data, the positions of the Satilites in GPS Test are not same with the other guy who stands next to me and already has 3D fix. For example, on the other guy's phone, GPS Test shows that Sat #23 is at the center, while on my phone it's at some place far from the center. Thus, GPS Test shows 20+ satilites in view, but usualy 0~1 in use. However, when I clean up AGPS data and let the phone search for sat signal, it could usually find more than 6 at the same position.
Any idea on why this happens?

I wonder if you're on to something. My GPS, yet again, threw me under the bus today. Google Maps showed a fix within once city block while I drove for an hour, following the nav. Suddenly it shows me 20 minutes past my destination lol
Anyway, I know this has nothing to do with the OP except that this is what he was trying to fix. (Pun intended). But I am left wondering if these settings are telling the phone to "trust" the same GPS fix more instead of help the GPS actually get a more accurate fix?

Well my problem is driving me crazy, as I'm playing Ingress.
Firstly, if you use GPS Test, or GPS Status, you can see a "satellite map" showing the position of satellites on the sky. My problem here is that the map on my phone looks very different with other's, when I get no fix while he gets 3D fix. This should have something to do with how the phone uses the AGPS data.
Secondly, my phone often loses all satellites suddenly. I can understand it if I walk from a place with clear & open sky view into a forest of tall building, but actually it doesn't behave in that way ---- it's opposite!! The phone can keep 3D fix even when there are a lot of 30+ floor building around, but it can also lose GPS lock when I walk along a street with open sky. When this happens, I usually open GPS Test, and see a satellite map that is different with the one when I have 3D fix.
