I have a stand alone android device that supports bluetooth (keyboard and mouse) and has hdmi out. i use it to play videos, watch youtube, listen to music on my tv.
here's my problem.. some youtube videos are blocked on "mobile" devices.
I'm using the device basically as a pc (running android os) but theres no setting to have the youtube app report to youtube that its not a mobile app. does anyone have any other app suggestions? (that you can install on a android device, but report to youtube that their a browser.
any suggestions? are you a developer? write this app! ill buy a copy!! (and beta test)
there has to be both people in my situation and people who just want to watch all videos on their android devices.
i am also doing the same. how do we make you tube run everything on my nexus 7. sick of app version blocking everything. then Rhett desktop version not supporting flash.

Here are some great alternatives to netflix for your touchpad.
Hulu , works great but you may need to patch your browser to make it work.
epctv.com , watch live online tv, I watch CNN live on here.
crackle.com , they have a big selection of movies. Its not netflix but hay its free.
zinc.tv , you really should check this out. Online media center for your touchpad. Watch all kinds of shows for free with a great interface.
Epixhd.com - Great alternative to Netflix.
some of these sites may not work with ad blocker installed.
if anyone can think of others, please share.
tv.blinkx.com
and
sidereel.com
they host LINKS to sites that host the episodes so as far as I know (I could easily be wrong) it's legal.
If you have a hbo subscription wwwhbogo.com.
EPIXHD.COM works great on the TP. Just watched The Captains on it in HD.
thanks for the links!
rlee
This is a GREAT list!
Any idea how someone would be able to watch/listen to NFL games on the touchpad, or even at all? We recently moved 2 states away and won't be able to follow our local team.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

probably using espn online since it's flash.
Also, al jazeera english has a live tv stream for news on youtube.com
"wwitv.com" EXACTLY like that. Its a crappy site but a great way to watch live broadcasts. I'm watching Fox's live broadcast from NY right now. Decent framerate, always live.
there is also orb streaming for the touchpad - (http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touchpad/294298-orb-media-streaming-awesome.html)
I've use orb in the past with dishnetwork, works great.
im looking forward to netflix finishing their switch from silverlight to html5 video. they already did for chrome os. when everything is sorted out on it, itll be open to linux and the others soon, and hopefully we can watch it in the touchpads browser soon.
Is there a patch on Preware for adding Hulu support to the browser?
I use p2p4u.net lot of sports and local tv stations for America

the app video flood hd is really nice it has all the links you have listed and a lot more all wrapped up in a easy UI, and there is a Hulu fix in preware, for who want that.
If you're trying to add Hulu support, make sure you add these testing feeds to Preware.

Netflix is not currently available for WebOS devices. The forum at slickdeals suggests to reply to @Netflixhelps on Twitter and request an official release of the Netflix streaming app for WebOS.
Hulu is also not currently available for WebOS devices. There is a workaround I found posted, but that I personally have not tried. I will edit this post after I try it to let you know how it goes. Google "prewarewebosbuzz Hulu". First result.
You can stream video content from your PC to Touchpad by using Tversity. From slickdeals:
1. Install Tversity media server on your laptop/desktop.
2. After installation, add the files you want to view on the library tab. To add an avi file, go to Library, File system, Files and click add item on top.
3. Open cmd prompt on your computer, and type "ipconfig" There you should find your IP address. Note this down.
4.On your touchpad, open a web browser, then type in :41952/flashlib after your IP address. For example, h t t p : // 192.168.1.0 :41952/flashlib
There you should be able to browse your folders to find the video you are looking for. One problem is that you can't rewind/forward etc.
Again Slickdeals:
Amazon Video On Demand/Prime Videos works runs rather well. Audio holds up well but you might need to use the pop out function on the player over full screen to get it to fill the screen. It might lag when first starting it up but pausing and allowing it to buffer will allow it to self correct.

or you can install kalemsoft media player http://www.kalemsoft.com/site/demos/com.kalemsoft.ksmplayera_0.3.7_tp.ipk using the webos quick install program that you used to install preware on your touchpad. dont install it from preware, itll crash.

What issues do you have, I just finished streaming couple shows while waiting for my next class. Only issue I ever had was when touchwiz released and they had to do an update to work with the new video player.

It doesn't pick up from I left off very well. Like if I pause a video then come back to it later it usually lacks video and just plays the audio. I typically have to restart the app on my PC to get the same video to play again properly.
Has anyone here tried the "MyNet" feature of the tablet to control a computer through your tablet? How do you like it?
I'd like to take advantage of that for websites which stream video but are not compatible with mobile browsers of any kind. It would probably require being on the same wifi network but either way, pretty neat.
BTW, I love my Prime!! Got the issue with gps signal capture but I got my cell phone to direct me if I'm lost in my car.

The app is called splashtop. I believe there are a couple of threads talking about this application. Just to let you know there is a THD version that is up on the market now that works better and faster then the bundled version though it costs money. I am using it now and can connect to my home computer from work and its super fast. I love it. Use it at work all the time during meetings to connect to my desktop. The bundled version will close the connection on you due to a bug in that version. The THD version does not have this issue.
Just my 3 cents.

actually hes talking about the MyNet app that comes with the prime
its not a desktop mirroring tool it just allows streaming of media (pics videos music) to the prime from a pc
its actually pretty cool in how well it does it but it can stream MKVs though
It also allows the downloading of the files from the pc to the prime...its a nice way of moving files without having to plug in or use a sd card or dropbox
i wish it allowed folder downloading or multiple downloading rather than having to do a single file at a time.
Yeah, the MyNet app is a DLNA app for streaming media between DLNA devices. To me it seemed to be a decent proof of concept app, but I have found three apps that do a better job: 2player, BubbleUPnP, and iMediaShare.
iMediaShare can stream from several internet sources to your DLNA devices, but it's unfortunately still not optimized for tablets. It forces you into portrait mode.
For streaming music from my Prime to my blu-ray/stereo, I typically use BubbleUPnP.

Well when you read the op he states talking about controlling your laptop.....was confusing.....i use MovieBrowser UPnP.....just love the way it organizes the movies.......
So Op, sorry for the confusion.
I've used both apps and had good success with them.
I really like the MyNet app though as its a simple program that lets my stream movies/tv shows from my NAS to the TV in my bedroom. No more lugging the laptop up the stairs and clearing a space to put it!

Are you sure you mean the mynet app or do you the splashtop hd remote pc access function in the my cloud app?
From reading your poast I think that you mean teh My desktop feature in the my cloud app which is splashtop HD remote app which links up with a splashtop streamer app on your PC !! and this does not require you to be on the same wifi connection...I often use it to connect to my pc when away from home to check on email accounts etc
I'm sorry, it is the "mycloud" icon on the screen that I meant. From there you find the "my desktop" option which uses splashtop.
i know it is off topic....but i have used PhoneMyPC for years. love it. great app for controlling your various PCs from your android.
Loving mynet, works flawless with all my gizmos. Sitting waiting for someone to start using cornerstone in a rom and i will use it as my main tv interface.

Hi all, i have a little question after spend hours with ustream and veetle and trying hundred of roms
Seems Android is not capable to HD streaming (at least, broadcast), ¿is this true? a Ustream employee says:
------
Android system is not capable of HD live streaming. Encoding HD video in realtime requires hardware acceleration on a mobile device. The native camera app has access to it (that's why you can record in HD), but 3rd party apps are blocked. However, we're working on improving the broadcast quality, but don't expect HD broadcasting on Android anytime soon.
----------
UStream and veetle are unable to broadcast in HD with Gingerbread but under ICS Veetle start broadcast but show bad in client.
Tested In galaxy S2
Anyone knows if is a Android known problem.??? Perhaps a mod could fix this problem?
Many thanks.
It is not an android problem as the bbc are broadcasting hd video which you can watch live on android devices.
http://www.talkandroid.com/111926-bbc-will-provide-24-live-hi-def-streams-of-the-summer-olympics/
Also youtube videos can be watched in hd too so may just be the app developers problem in coding that feature.

Hi. thanks for response, but the problem i try to explain is that 3rd party apps can't access to hd resolutions of camera, (to broadcast, to UPLOADING a stream), of course is possible, with hundred of apps, download streams in hd, (see HD tv, HD youtube videos, HD broadcasts initiated from a PC)... but in this case camera of phone is not needed to downlaod streams....
I tried all broadcast services as ustream, make.tv, veetle, justin.tv... and nothing, all mobile broadcasting are VGA resoltutions or lower...
really is impossible for Android device to "throw out" without cable a video resolution better than 640x480 ???
Iphone seems can do it
remix os is great for some productivity stuff but since i have tried it for a week but no way around it plays videos on youtube or anyother streaming app or site so lets assume that this is a bug and i hope devlopers at jide will try to remove it in upcoming update. but until then if you want to play some video offline you can use vlc android app and it works fine on remix.

Having this problem too, and from what I've seen in the forums alot of people are facing it as well.
As a temporary solution, try BSPlayer. It's the only video playing app I tried that works at the moment. A bit clunky but functional.
Hopefully this will be fixed with the the coming updates =)
EDIT: I tried VLC player, but for some reason it crashes the entire OS for me xD
its to do with the graphics...my system can play full HD videos and 3D games like CSR2
try this....it might help:

I can confirm that on my Intel Core i3 with integrated hd 2000 YouTube works fine, video playback is fine, but on my older 24inch msi ae2400 that has an Amd 4670 mobile gpu video playback doesn't work and YouTube doesn't work. So i think its to do with the Amd video drivers, not sure if NVIDIA cards have a better driver, but intel gpu's seem ok
Youtube videos stream when I request the desktop version of the site in a web browser. This is not a graphics problem. There seems to be something wrong in mobile mode and something right in desktop mode. The browser proves it. Youtube and all those other apps must be running in mobile mode and that is where it seems the problem is. Try it... . Run Youtube in a browser in Desktop Mode --not mobile mode. Good that you took the trouble to find the solution to the problem.
For me, I can't use internet as it does not detect my usb wifi dongle.
Maybe install opera/opera mini and see....that's what I use anyway.....I dislike stock browsers.
Or better yet, use the official youtube app...more feature rich and stable than browsers.

You need a browser with "a request desktop version" option. I don't think opera mini has this option. Moreover and probably a topic for another thread, in relation to your wifi problem, you could use somebody's android or apple smartphone to create a mobile wifi hotspot for your remix os computer to connect to. It will work. All smart phones have a mobile wifi hotspot.

thanks for the suggestion....about the browser.
opera mobile or opera mini (which i am using on my note 10.1 has that option.
regarding wifi hotspot.....if my pc has no wifi, how could i connect to any wifi hotspots?
anyways, i am not using it (RemixOS) as a go to OS yet....just trying out....so...no need for internet.
thanks again!
I can play videos in Chrome and VLC just fine, however MX Player simply crashes when opening the video (even the Remix Mini video). The laptop I'm testing it on has a Core i5-3317U with Intel HD 4000 graphics.
Thanks for the suggestions =)
I forgot to mention that despite video playback not working in the Youtube and Facebook apps (haven't tried others yet), they play fine when viewed from the web browser. On Chrome, clicking and holding the video itself even pops up a "save video" option; an added bonus =P
For me this is how I use Youtube and Facebook on Windows anyway (through Chrome not the standalone apps) so it doesn't bother me at all. I play local videos using BSPlayer and they play great and they have subtitle support.
Only thing I'm struggling to get working are games. Not one single game works and an OS crash is always caused. I'm using an Nvidia gpu (GT 315 to be precise..... I know it's a very crappy one xD). Hopefully we'll get better compability in the coming updates =)
Intel Mobile GME 965 Express Graphics Card (Compaq 610)
Installed 3.0.201 Still problems when playing Netflix, Youtube etc videos from the app. Video freezes very soon while audio continues. When playing videos from Chrome browser no problem. I have a Compaq 610 with Intel Integrated Mobile GME 965 Graphics Card. When will Remix support this?
Cheers,
Patrick
problem is the video cards. to at least be able to watch youtube, just open the youtube app, click on the three dots top right of the video window and choose video quality of 360 or less and you will be fine.........
