I keep getting this message that says downloading do not turn off target.
I got past it by home+vol down+lock and then choosing cancel on the next window but I don't know how to install this rom if I can't bypass the bootloader! I am using the twrp method
How do I reboot recovery after I've installed open recovery script on goomanager without getting this error?

It sounds like youre on the me7 ota and you cant install custom recovery on it at the the moment. No downgrading to mdk either.

DJRBliss for Motochopper root exploit
Chainfire for SuperSU
jcase for setting the record straight on kernel root block (learn something new every day!)
And you, the community! Otherwise we wouldn't be here! Thank you!
Background:
The MDK kernel contains features that disable the su binary by default.
There are ways to bypass this once rooted but attempts to use Motochopper failed.
So we needed another way to get root.
...Enter the MD2 Kernel. At the moment one of the easiest doors into allowing Motochopper.
Download Links for MD2 Kernel TAR: http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=256
There are two mirrors posted on that thread.
Steps are pretty simple:
1) Enter Odin Mode - Hold Vol Down + Power from power off. (ADB reboot download also works with USB debugging on)
2) Flash MD2 kernel
3) Go to the Motochopper thread and follow the steps in OP.
Congratulations! You are now rooted.
Follow-Up/Notes:
1) You will want to go back to MDK kernel after rooted to avoid kernel/ROM mismatch and potential issues due to it. A few weeks ago this may have been an issue due to the root block but jcase has informed me that is corrected as of the latest SuperSU. So please update to latest SuperSU and flash back the MDK kernel. You can find a link to that here.
2) Warnings will now come up once rooted. You can suppress these by freezing SEAndroid.apk

Yea it's on that kernel already. Everything is working fine but I'd prefer to get that fixed for future "warranty" issues if I need to bring it to the store.

If you need to reflash stock via Odin before you take it in. That's the only way I know at the moment to get around it.
NM I had to unroot and reflash the kernel. Afterwards just flash the kernel to root them update the binaries (missed that step) and flashed the normal kernel. Problem solved.

Right. But from what I have been told it won't hold with Superuser, which is what is installed with Motochopper. That's why have to change to Chainfire's SuperSU.

The bootloader is basically the ''set of instructions'' the phone uses to boot. Usually it instructs the device to boot the os kernel or the recovery environment. The bootloader loaded the system recovery because you either held volume up + power when booting, ran the reboot recovery command, accepted the ota, or your device was unable to load the os.

Not only, NO! But HELL NO! If you're on MDK do not take update to ME7. You can, however, flash roms based upon ME7 - - like Hyperdrive.

Now, you cannot flash a custom recovery nor custom roms. I hope you gain much by moving perhaps a gig of apps to your SD card - - you have paid a very high price to do so. Now your only option for custom roms is safestrap. I wish you the best of luck.

Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Look at the general questions area.... I think somebody talks about ss and nandroid... they said that it can backup roms, but not stock.
This sounds plausible because HashCode, the SS Dev, said that he bas to work more on SS before you can do anything with stock rom... even backup

Because people think as long as they can flash ROMs, it's unlocked. You and I know it's only a workaround, but most users don't.
I'd much rather have to use Loki than SS, as cool as SS sounds.

Not entirely sure the bootloader was truly unlocked. May just have been the boot screen that said custom with the unlocked pad lock. If it was however unlocked that would be epic as nobody has found a a way to unlock the bootloader on ME7.

You did that in the wrong order, unfortunately.
What's happened is that the phone counts every attempt to flash a custom image. If you've ever done that, the nonzero custom flash counter causes the lock icon and "Custom" to appear on boot.
If you had root still, you could run Triangle Away to clear the custom flash counter and then install stock.
I'd root the phone, run Triangle Away, then let it update. If you haven't done anything else to it, the update will work fine even though the phone is rooted.
Everytime I follow the directions to install a custom recovery, via the TWRP app, it always soft bricks my phone. I've tried the Loki method and that gives me errors. I'm rooted, I just want to be able to install a lollipop rom :'(
Do you have an mdk boot loader?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah, Triscuit is right. If you aren't using an MDK bootloader, you can't flash a custom recovery (i.e. TWRP, ClockworkMod). Without a custom recovery, you also cannot flash most custom ROMs (such as Cyanogenmod). I found this out the hard way after a week of blood/sweat/tears trying to flash CM12 on the NC5 bootloader.
