Hard reset the device, but all files remain? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, through CWM I wipe data/factory settings, however it did not delete my data.
After this I went to the format data, did it and still all my photos and files are there.
How can I totally reset it to factory settings? I did it through the settings-> backup and reset also.
Thank you

Find an option to wipe internal storage or /data/media. I'm using twrp so I don't know about cwm.

In cwm you will need to select format sdcard.. it's in the same place you formated data.. just remember that when you format sdcard it Will Wipe Everything.. after the wipe just reboot as usual.

I am talking about as clean a slate as possible.

Extra wipe probably overkill .
Connect phone in mass storage mode and format the phone drive .
Boot to recovery wipe cache Advanced wipe dalvik cache .
Mounts and Storage format system data and sd card .
Use Odin to flash stock firmware as phone is empty .

Thanks Guys appreciate it!

if u wipe with this way u just loss contact and apps that u installed them on your phone but other things like musics, movies and photos .
thanks button
wipe data factory reset and go to mount and storage and format system
To me complete wipe means complete not part wiped .
System Data Cache and internal SD card .
Though no need for wiping SD Card unless data corruption on it .

Wiping by means of formatting won't destroy all of the data, formatting an ext4 partition simply overwrites the file tables. With the right tools it is still possible to retrieve lots of your personal information from a re-formatted partition, including stored passwords, pictures, etc.

All the named procedures does not, don't they?
So either old bootloader and jig or easier use triangle away.
Erasing user data there is an additional option: settings-device-storage-erase USB-storage.
Full wipe. How??

I also do this when the instruction says "full wipe". Aside from this I also format the internal SD(to delete extra folders created from the previous ROM) since all my installers are inside the external SD.
Aside from the above instruction, I also read some posts that you have to mount to a specific folder(not internal/external sd) and clear/format that location. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks in advance.
I do this:
Wipes:
- Factory Reset
- Cache Partition
- Dalvik (Advanced)
Format:
- System
- Data
- Cache
- Internal Storage (No SD)

Could you care to elaborate on how to do the ones in bold?
What I normally do is that I mount points like /system, /data, /cache, /emmc and format all of them. I'll do all of this using ClockworkMod Recovery.

[Q] Completely delete all user data?

I need to completely delete all user data and revert to factory state
1. Factory reset does NOT delete all user and application data
2. Tried formatting /data in recovery, that too leaves application data on the phone
3. Have wiped everything in CWM that says wipe.
User data remains. I feel like I'm at war with the undead. What's the garlic and silver bullet solution to wiping all data off an Android device?

Do a factory reset and make sure you tick format USB.
You have been deleting all data. The best I can guess is that when you boot up your phone after the wipe, is that when you log into your Gmail account you are letting it auto restore your settings and installed apps from the Internet.

Whats the proper way to WIPE & What do you use??

Front to Back or Back to Front & Toilet Paper or Wet Wipes? Just Kidding!
When wiping via Factory Reset in TWRP what is the best way to insure everything is getting fully wiped except our external SD card. After I did a factory reset there was still everything on the internal sd card. Do any of you use the superwipe.zip?
What Procedures do you follow when switching Roms?

Factory reset wipes /data and /cache
after Factory reset, wipe System and you should be good to go on a new or fresh installation from zip. i dont think wiping boot is necessary but you can. so do
Factory Reset
System
Boot
Dalvik-cache is in /data so you dont have to wipe that.

Thanks for the help... I just don't understand why I have the following on my phone.
Sdcard - I understand that this is internal.
Sdcard2
Sd-ext.
Both the sdcard2 and Sd-ext have the same files on them, it has my music, some apk files, and my flash zip files. Now my poweramp player shows duplicate albums for all of my music stored on my external sd.
Any ideas

Sd-ext is or was the best way to move apps to the sd card. But with the new OS it isn't required if the app is made right

I factory reset twice, wipe dalvik twice and wipe system twice. I don't wipe cache since the factory reset does it.
Now that it was clarified dalvik is wiped with the factory reset I'll probably stop doing that. I just wish it clarified it since it specifically indicates the cache was wiped.
I use this

How To Do Full Wipe On TWRP?

I have TWRP 2.2.1 installed, unlocked bootloader and rooted, I want to install a new ROM but I want to do a full wipe as per the installation instruction.
In the Wipe Menu I see 6 different options. Which ones do I wipe for it to be a full wipe?
Cache (I can probably wipe this)
Dalvik cache (I can probably wipe this)
Facory Reset
System
Exernal Storage (I probably don't need to wipe this)
Internal Storage
Thanks,
Richard

Not true, A factory reset wipes data, and cache. A true full wipe is System, data, and cache. When doing this I usually click on factory reset twice and then system twice

And I'd throw "System" in there for good measure.
Thanks guys. Worked like a charm.
There is a mod you can flash that does the same thing called superwipe
Sorry to bump this, but factory reset WILL NOT erase media on phone, right?
No, it will not. ONLY a SD card erase will wipe the media.

I use swm6180_superwipe between flashes. Not sure that it's necessarily any better than using the wipe option in TWRP, but here's a link. https://db.tt/lAVSMRwY
I wish I could remember what thread it was from so I could link you to it directly, but it you find it make sure you thank swm6180.
sorry to resurrect this yet again but dose swm6180_superwipe still work? i used to use one on my galaxy s2x but that one no longer works i have been told.
full wipe!" i must to select all ? :dalvik , data, internal storage, cache, usb otg )? and " system " no correct?

[Q] if i made a factory reset will it format internal storage?

I'm sorry for such a stooped question.. but if I did a factory reset from settings on jb 4.1.2 will it wipe my internal storage ??
If yes how to format only the system without touching internal storage ?
No.It will not format internal sd card.It will only delete all apps, accounts and resets your settings.

Hmm, i think it's like this.
If you factory reset from settings, yes the phone will be like the day you bought it.
Although if you "Wipe data/factory set" from Recovery mode, it will only wipe the system storage (where all apps are located) and not touch your internal storage.
So if you want to wipe everything but your internal storage, do it from Recovery mode. If you do this and reboot, you will once again be asked to sign in with your google account etc etc..
Also if you do wipe data/factory set from recovery mode, be sure to wipe cache and dalvik cache, just to be sure you dont have anything left.
Factory reset in phone settings will also do the trick not wipe sd just data. No need to go to cwm  as op put
Wait wait wait.
Doesn't wipe from settings totally wipe the phone? i mean internal storage (where all apps are) and internal sd card (where files and photos etc are stored)????????????????

No.Internal sd card is not deleted in settings as well as in recovery.
You have to format it manually if you want.

So if you choose "wipe data" instead of "format data" all your videos will be kept as well?? Or is it only for photos contacts and messages?? So are videos in your capture gallery saved after the "wipe data" or not??
