[Q] Not enough space for ROM slot 1. Safe Strap. - Motorola Droid RAZR

Trying to install a ROM for the first time and I'm using Safe Strap. I try to install a ROM on slot 1 or any other ROM slot for that matter and it says I don't have enough space for my Data partition. How can I make more space? I tried wiping the internal storage using Safe Strap but it gives me an error. Any suggestions?

Try to use clean master to clean app and system cache, and put some big data app in the ext-sd,it's an intuitive app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleanmaster.mguard
for a rom you need at least 2 gb
Some rom will boot only in rom slot 1 with safe strap,(all cyanogen mod "CM 10..1" for exemple) read the developer info

I am having this same issue. I deleted a ton of apps and ran the cleaner and it is still showing that I am short on space. What else can I do? Getting very aggravated.

before flashing a rom, i made factory reset.
Did u try factory reset/wipe?

Yes, if you have a ton if pics, music, downloads, etc on your internal memory transfer it to micro sd. Stated above "For a rom you need at least 2 gigabytes" is mis leading,(if not referring to total partition size) as you are givn a choice of 1, 2 or 3 gig space. I have never used anything over 1gig, and never ran out if space/memory. Factory reset does not clean your phones storage.. I suggest manually deleting/ formatting for best results to get your space/memory back.

so I just tried Safestrap on my S4, says I have 12MB of space left. I just wiped my entire phone, and it's still at 12MB of space, before and after the wipe, am I missing something?
EDIT: I installed the ATT version of it by mistake, genius me

Same Problem here
I am having the same problem. I have deleted most apps. Deleted all pics & music, still not enough space to flash ROM. I am on XT912 RAZR Rooted.

have a look at this link
I had a similar problem until I found this link, I think I just used the top/first method as I had luckypatcher installed already.

hope it is a help to you

SafeStrap uses the space on your internal sdcard for creating slots.
Apart from the data, it creates two more partitions viz system and boot so the amount of free space required is (sizeOf) data + 900 MB.
So if you chose say 1GB for data, then you must have about 1.9 GB of free space on your internal sdcard.
Confirm before you try to create a slot.

No you can't change the stock system partitions.
This thread is for creating partitions on sdcard using a specific recovery. This is not universal.

A2SD

Hello.
I just got an HTC Hero, and I've faced the problem of lack of space already.
So I read about this app, unaware I would need it (naive of me), while I was downloading the VillainRom v13, to replace the VillainRom v12 I had.
I flashed it succesfully. I installed the apps I had before. But now, unfortunately, I'm running low on internal space.
How can I move application to the SD card? Is there a tutorial that explains me how to do it for my phone and rom?
How can I determine if my SD card is fast enough?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
to move applications just go to settings>applications>manage applications and click on which ever app you want to move to sd card. Once you click on the app it'll go to a page which will allow you to move your app to the sd. Usually class 4+ SDs are fast enough
The question is that I have tried that... But I don't have that option!
I believe it is because I'm on the 2.1 rom, instead of 2.2, and that option was only introduced in 2.2.
welll, im not sure how to do it without wiping and starting all over again but,
if you make a nandroid.. then backup your sd card onto your computer(including the nandroid backup)
you could go into your recovery image and partition your sd card, swap - 32mb, ext2 - 512mb and fat32 the rest (it takes you through those settings step by step)
then wipe factory reset/all data and wipe your dalvik cache
then flash your rom (double check that the rom has a2sd).. and the rom will do the work for you!
i just did this with wildhero... its the only rom im 100% sure will do the a2sd for you

Thanks!
I was struggling with this aswell
The thing is my ClockWork Mod doesn't have that formatting option...
Does VR13 support A2SD natively? I believe so.
I use HTC HD2, Android on SD card, don't know how to use A2SD ?
Now i use Swapper2 to set Swap file.

Proper reset

Long story short bought a galaxy note off craigslist met up at best buy to swap phones check numbers and so on and reset phones
Went home wiped again rooted and flashed cm10 just noticed all his pics are still on here (some with sensitive info drivers license checks vin numbers).
Rather then call the guy and get him paranoid what would be the best way to wipe this completely clear

format of the SD card, and the internal EMMC partition...
Format the External card to FAT32 on your PC with the adapter....unless it's yours and you know it's clean....otherwise...scrub it..
Once the external is clean or replaced...(your call) then move any files you wish to keep from the internal card to the fresh external..
Then boot into your recovery, under advanced options, and format the EMMC partition..(note, not all recoveries will do this, but the latest CWM or TWRP will work)
Once the EMMC is clean, reboot the device, and the rom will populate only the files it needs to run, and all of his internal garbage will be gone..
(note: this will not remove app data stored within any apps, but the standard data wipe should handle that)
DISCLAIMER: this method "WILL" wipe all data from the internal space of the device.....proceed at your own risk....(low)
the rom will remain the same....So "SAVE" anything you want to keep before doing this..
After the EMMC format, you can move back anything you saved prior to wiping/formatting of the EMMC space....g

Currently the older version of clockwork mod doesnt support this feature 5.8.4.8 and TWRP doesnt work for the note any other suggestion??
Can you not format the sd card and internal memory using a menu in the settings for CM10? I am not familiar with CM10 but there should be no need to use recovery to do this. The stock ToucWiz ROM can.

Actually CM10 was all buggy just went back to ICS not fimiliar with Touchwiz will try to look through the menus of touchwiz and see what i find
Go menu button/settings/storage. There you can format both. Simple as that.

question about partitions and custom ROM

I haven't tried any custom roms yet because frankly default jb is great.
I was wondering though, when you flash a custom ROM, will it use the application storage partition for your apps? Or will it want you to install apps on the roms partition?
The apps install on the individual rom's partition, because each romslot used creates a new partition that the rom recognizes as the only available storage space. This is the biggest reason some people opt out of using safestrap or bmm- the rom space is limited. They end up flashing over stock so they have all 8 gb, just as they would normally. Every app installed on each rom takes up space on the internal storage (a lot of redundancy).

Safestrap (/BMM), creates rom-slots on your internal sdcard. A rom-slot has its own /system, /data partitions and is independent of any other rom-slot or stock slot.
Thanks fellas. I didn't think you could use a custom rom on the razr without ss or bmm because of the locked boot loader. Can you?
And it's lame how theres a different partition for apps. Internal storage and apps should share a partition like on other android phones I've used.

Locked bootloader means no flashable recovery.
And you cannot flash a ROM without custom recovery.
So the only way is Safstrap or BMM.
Its nothing different. Every android phone has these partitions.
/boot stores the kernel
/system stores the ROM
/data stores app and user data.
What SS does is create a copy of these partitions (like a virtual system) on the internal sdcard and set is to boot. Its the only way since the BL is locked.

Simplest way would be flash stock via odin, take backup, and install whatever you would want to.

Always, always remember to take nandroid backups, when moving to a ROM less than a day old.

Nope.
Din't try the CWM, I use TWRP, and default option of factory reset does not wipe the internal memory.
Not sure why it would be different in CWM.
Is it all fixed now?

Its impossible that data wiped, their must be wrong when you installing.

System Partition Help

Currently my RAZR has 2 slots used. Stock and Slot-1 with CM11. I want to install CM12 but do not want to get rid of CM11 just yet.
My Stock slot has a spare 2GB of data space, since i never use that slot anymore. I want to remove 1GB so that i can make a Slot-2 partition for CM12. Is there a way or is there an app that will allow me shrink the Stock data partition size from 3GB to 2GB.

You can make a backup of slot1, then delete the data partition then recreate it to the size you want then restore your backup
