Stop.

You need to understand the basics and backup your efs folder before you destroy your phone.

I read the OP thats why i am asking to make sure .

btw I9300 bootloader is not locked but do read the stickies as it is a different device than all american and several other sgs3 variants

okok no need to kill me i learned my lesson READ the stickies before posting stupid question!!

i scoured this place but i cant find a way to know the bootloader status i found out that xoom is locked and some xperia devices and that i can determine the bootloader status by the time it take on the boot screen but this doesnt sound very accurate is there a code to put it in the dial pad ?

Bootloader is irrelevant, it's a separate operating system that plays no part in recovery or rom.

if the bootloader is locked the chance of bricking my phone is bigger so i need to know first before jumping into the customizing process isnt that right?

You're trying to find something that doesn't exist, confusing completely different handsets with Samsung's open approach.

actually the verizon sgs3 does have a locked bootloader. so it is not always the manufacturer that makes the decisions. in the us the carriers have much more input especially in regards to updates. att just recently began updates to 4.12.
have a look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756338 they are all samsung galaxy s 3 but none are identical . some are exynos , some are snapdragon. ram , video boards, radios all different variants. that is why it is important to know your device

All the US versions are the same hardware... Besides Radio related stuff...

[Q] Recovery Partition?

Hi all, oddly, I can't seem to find a clear answer to this from searching and Google. Does the SII have a separate recovery partition? I see chainfire has created a customised CWM to be deployed with his kernel, but I was puzzled by this as coming from a HTC world, I was wondering how CWM backups up the ROM partitions (or more importantly restores them) if they are in use.
TIA

no one?
I would also like to know how this works. Coming from 3 previous HTC phones and buying a SGS2 tomorrow, I wouldn't mind finding out how to root, nandroid and flash correctly.
I know all about Odin already.
Is this the only way?

Then why not read the guides in the development section? step by step guides.
There is also a search function in these forums.
Not being rude, but you are asking to be spoonfed when there are good, well written proven guides to all your questions.

I take it this was a reply to MrBadgerMilk's question? I've looked at the FAQ in the dev section and used search and can't see the answer to the question of whether the SII has a separate recovery partition. Hopefully the people that know (and some will) could just post a yes or no.
Right... http://bit.ly/SGS2answer
Now that's over, no, the SGS2 doesn't have a separate recovery partition. The zImage contains the recovery binary, and another init script is run, when recovery is to be entered, from the standard zImage.
Now that was the answer I was looking for. Thank you very much.
EDIT: Is the video some Samsung secret initiation ritual thing?

Tbh, I think i came off as a bit of a plank. If you keep an eye out for chainfire 'Root/kernel' threads in the dev section you can go far wrong.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399for root/clockwork mod recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 for step by step guide on how to flash via Odin, and the official roms. I've had the sgs2 for a month now, and after trying the (now deceased) angelom rom, and litening rom, I went back to stock KE7. and tbh, it feels just as quick as the 'customs'. The only thing I would advise is to remove(or freeze) the samsung bloat by using titanium backup. There is another thread somewhere with a list of things you can remove without affecting functionality.

Some questions about SGS2 GT I9100T

Hello everyone, I am a Android N00B and don't know what I am doing so please help me out answering some questions..
1) My SGS2 is a GT-19100T (New Zealand) being provided by Telecom NZ, will I still be able to ROOT using the same methods for GT-19100?
2) When people say I can not get the warranty from Samsung can I still claim my insurance with my provider that I am paying extra for?
3) How difficult is it to unbrick a SGS2? Is it ALWAYS possible to unbrick it?
4) How easy is it to brick the S2?
Please help a noob out. Thanks in advance.

That depends upon the terms and conditions of the policy . But as you have modified firmware i would guess not .
3) How difficult is it to unbrick a SGS2? Is it ALWAYS possible to unbrick it?
Brick a SGS2 about a 1% chance rising to 100% if not following instructions or wrong firmware .
Recover a bricked SGS2 about 95% chance as most are soft bricked .

The answer to 1) is yes. I have a I9100T also. JJE has given you some very good advice. If you're unsure/scared/not confident about doing anything (rooting, flashing non-stock firmware, etc) to your phone, don't do it until you are confident about the process.
At best you could end up with a soft brick that might take you a few days to workout how to fix (which means no playing with your new toy), and as JJE also mentioned, there's also a chance of hard bricking your phone which increases depending on how well you didn't read/follow the instructions for whatever you were doing with your phone.
This is a good place to start reading, so is this thread. Expect to get fairly short 'use the search function' answers if you ask a question that has been answered on here 2,000,000,000 times already.

Just flash another rom over it via recovery or Odin depending on the rom. Also, make sure you re-flash a T modem once done for better reception.

[Q] Don't kill me for asking

Good day, everybody!
I've seen that there are here many great experts in this domain, so that I would like, with your permission, to ask why SG S3 has to be factory unlocked before rooting? All the guides provided on pages I've found on internet specify that (as a newbie, I only can assume that factory locked means that the device is working only on a specific mobile carrier, which is applicable in my case).
I also want to get a newer stock version of Android, and I dont't know if the latest is 4.1.2 or 4.2; maybe you can tell me.
From what I've read, in order to do so, I firstly have to root my phone, using a method for the specific kernel I have (XXDLJ4), and then install the software, using clockworkmod and the stock Android kitt. If I've understood it completly wrong, please let me know.
I can figure that you have been hearing this kind of questions over and over in your life, and I understand you perfectly, but I wouldn't be coming here I didn't you're the best.
The AP of my device is 9300XXDLJ4 with CP I9300BVDLI1.
Many thanks for your patience and time,
Cristi

Device locked is for the networks to decide normally a network has the paid for option to unlock .
You should start by reading the FAQS and Guides .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927113
As said this is Samsung phone that uses Samsung firmware .You can of course install a custom Android build rom .
Root or custom roms or rom counter above zero or system modified status all void warranty .

You should ask in the Q&A section, but as you are at it, you will find this interesting , as it has all the infos you are searching for :

Now just read learn and learn again, if you have a device you want to root, just learn how it works, don't wait for anyone to teach you, learn from your mistakes, and confugure your device the way you wanna use it .

[Q] Help with Rooting and some other questions

Hello
So i just wanted to make a small and clear thread where newbies like me can come and check the most common answers.
Okay so my questions are -
I am Running 2.3.6 Gingerbread Stock on my i777
I bought this phone second hand so i dont know about the past of this phone. Also i bought this phone is US and then came to India.
My Phone -
Stock Kernel - i777UCKK6
Stock Rom - 2.3.6 - Gingerbread
I've read that many people are having problems on galaxys2root.com and have even bricked their phone by Installing wrong kernels.
So can you please tell me which Kernel i should flash ?
And which rom should i flash ?
Also will Flashing a new rooted ROM on my phone Lock my phone with At&t ?
Search and read.

It's best to stay away from that site entirely. The site developer has multiple similar sites for many different phones, and apparently does it for the money, and is not really very good at helping people. Also, while he is a developer, his products sometimes, as you mentioned, cause severe problems.

Some of the JellyBean based roms will. SHOstock3 will. Most of the others won't. If that happens, you can unlock it again for free with GalaxSim Unlock, as long as you download it from the developers thread and not purchase it on the market.

Agree and that is due to multiple guides posted all over the place and often repeating those that are stickied .Its a fact of questions and other junk posted in General section cluttering up and hiding the guides .
But as 99% refuse to even start by reading post one why put any effort in to make it more accessible .
In my view we should have one section with Q&A including all general topics . Plus one locked section for guides and faqs with new posts at the discretion of the mods only .

That's a really good idea. Unfortunately it would need to be a site wide change, which would be hard to get admin buy in for. They could perhaps have a "lesser" mod, like a guide admin user base that could manage that for each device, because they would need to understand teh guides and if they were accurate or not anyway.
You should suggest it

The only challenge will be then, and I guess it is valid not only for XDA but also in real life, how to get people to read first and not go the "easy" way of posting/asking the same old question.
Nevertheless a guide/faq section would be a good start.

That isn't totally true, im on 4.2.2 custom for 3 weeks now and can't say it's less stable than 4.1.2
Rooting always voids your warranty, it means it's on your own risk. Sometimes when you soft-brick your phone you can go back to stock, for what i've read.
