So I went a little app uninstalling crazy after rooting my phone while trying to get rid of the Verizon bloatware. One of the things I uninstalled was the default keyboard and now I'm having some trouble.
My work email requires the phone to be encrypted, but when I do that I can't get past boot encryption! I have no keyboard showing up anymore.
I've factory reset the phone a few times and don't have the list of things I uninstalled anymore, dumbass move I know.
Does anyone know the name of or have a link to the default keyboard that comes installed? Or know how to get a keyboard to show up on the boot encryption?

Installed and just added encryption and still no keyboard at boot :crying:
I'm thinking I might just return the phone today since I got it very recently.
Just an fyi, in the future use titanium backup, our something similar to, to freeze the apps not delete them. That way if you mess something up you can just unfreeze them. I suppose you're also on me7?
You could Odin back to stock and then re-root. I'd think that would fix the issue.
Try to Odin back to stock like wolfgrrl said and don't forget a nandroid backup,backup,backup..,lol
Don't Odin that's a waste of time. I did the same thing. Just download a ROM that is not themed and pull the SamsungIME.apk file then push to system apps via root explorer. Set permission then reboot. Super simple. I have an apk for it. Just pm me and I'll send you a drop box link.

Hey man,
Can you got the solution for this issue?
Since 2 hours, I got the same problem in my S4 (KitKat). I tried installing stock keyboard zip (androidfilehost.com/?fid=23032113221600607), but it doesn't work.
Pls, help me. I have my phone unavailable.

Hello,
Got the 'apps stuck on installing' problem with the Market on new 2.1 firmware. I've read in other posts that it's possible to fix this by clearing the Market cache and data. However, on the X10 it's only possible to clear the Market cache and this doesn't seem to fix it.
Anyone found another way to fix (because I stupidly uninstalled the 'stuck' apps from the Apps Management settings menu and now I can't reinstall them )?
Generally enjoying 2.1, though (Angry Birds! )
Thanks!
I had this happen last week with a number of apps (all stuck at "Installing") at once. There was no option to cancel, and rebooting didn't help. Eventually, I just re-flashed my firmware (and added JIT to boot).
Knock on wood... so far so good.
errase all data of google, restart. click on market put ur data , must be fix it. thats wut i did

I tried deleting the Google account from within 'Settings->Accounts & Sync' but the X10 told me that other apps were using this account and the only way to remove it was to factory reset the phone. How did you erase all your Google data?

I was really hoping not to have to do that - it's taken a while to get the X10 running something like I want it after the 2.1 update
Download the apk from somewhere else of the thing you installed thats stuck and install it. That restarted the one I accidentally uninstalled while updating it
In my case fixed with reflashing, nothing else was helpful

Have you rooted your X10? If so, make sure ou install and use Titanium Backup. If you keep your backups up-to-date, re-flashing is a minor inconvenience as you can restore (almost) everything to the way it was.
No, I've not rooted it. Generally I just use the phone and apps and don't try to do anything too techy with it. Is it still worth rooting (apart from to use Titanium Backup?)
i deleted my facebook app from my tablet yesterday and now i cannot find it in the market, i downloaded a FB apk from this forum but it gives me a log in error. is there a way to get my archos tablet back to the orginal setting i tried reformatting , reset android all and i still cant get it to work..
i did the market hack about 50 times already too. i have SDE installed too i was on uruk droid at one point and i went back to the archos firmware.
anyone?
I used Titanium Backup on my phone to back up the apk and then used dropbox to get it to my Archos.
i can download it using app lib but when i log in it gives me an error
i wish there was a way to wipe everything off like everything just have a blank slate and then re install android. like i want it to be like the first time i turned the darn thing on

Mark, there is a way to wipe and start over.
Go to settings/repair and formatting...you can reset android which will just kind of reset everything back to new but won't delete anything. Or you can do a "full re initialization" (thats what they call it) and that will wipe everything. It will be like it just came out of the box.

Is there a way to get HULU plus back working after rooting and debloating with Indirect's method. The app would instantly close. So I downloaded the app from the thread with all the apps from Rforce1 and installed it. It immediately force closes.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

After rooting and setting up my NT the way I liked (adding ADW Launcher, etc.), the Hulu app still ran, but it wouldn't let me log in (got some error about my device having "connectivity issues"). My solution? I used Titanium Backup to backup the Hulu app, and then I uninstalled it. Then I went onto the Android Market and downloaded/installed it (if it doesn't show up in the Market for you, know that I changed my build.prop to look like the DROID3). After that, everything ran smoothly. Hope this solution helps your slightly-different problem.
Nunspa, I think your right about having to unroot and start over again with rooting and not debloating. However, when I originally rooted I was watching the football game and missed a step. So I unrooted. But then my computer wouldn't recognize my NT. I spent days trying to get it to recognize it. I don't know if it was my dinosaur of a notebook. I eventually went to the second computer in my house and rooted it fine. I am afraid to unroot again for fear that that second notebook won't recognize my NT. But I am paying for Hulu Plus on my TV and it sucks that I can't see it on my NT. I was able to before I rooted.
Mattman1983, thank you for your suggestion. I did what you suggested and backed up with TB. But Hulu Plus doesn't show up in the market for me and I don't know how to change the build.prop and don't know the consequences of such a procedure.
I may eventually unroot again and start over if no one suggests a different way.
erpman,
The USB connectivity issue is tied to conflicting drivers, Thus the computer you preformed your root on should be able to re-root without any issues.
I have been considering re-rooting, and besides I'm eyeing the 1.4.1 rooting presented by DeanGibson..
Just have to back up my apps with TBA and I should be good to go, besides It's not like I have any "irreplaceable" items.. ya it's a pain, but may be worth it.
Nunspa, are you saying that I can reroot without unrooting first? I'm thinking that I have to unroot using indirect's unrooter which brings the nt back to stock 1.4 including the huluplus app. Rerooting without unrooting wouldn't bring me back to stock. Sorry if I'm not making sense. What's the benefit of the 1.4.1 root?
One method might be to use the 3 hulu+ titanium backup files from another device and restore them. This is how I got hulu+ to work on my Xoom. If someone wants to try that, here's a guide on how to do it.

Nooo you need to unroot, revert back to 1.4.0 and do it all over again..
you mentioned that you had issues with one of your computers recognizing your NT, that was due to conflicting drivers...
Titanium Backup method
So I used Indirect's method to root my gf's Nook tablet thus Hulu Plus remained. I have hence backed up the app and am attaching the 3 files from the backup. All you would need to do is place these 3 files in your titanium backup folder and then go into titanium backup and restore the app. You may need to restore app + data but I'm not sure.
If someone who used the full debloat root method could try this out and let me know how it goes, I'd appreciate it.

Just to finish this thread out, I wound up unrooting then rooting without debloat. Hulu Plus is back for me. I did try out the new Huluplus apk listed above by cubanluke on my Samsung fascinate phone and it works perfectly.
I'm also using Buttonsavior which is great except i can't get the power button to work.

the power button function in buttonsavior is to lock the screen which for me its better
~Veronica
The lockscreen (which looks like a power button) doesn't work for me. When I try to activate it in the button savior settings, it force closes. I'm not exactly sure what a lockscreen function is. I just know the settings forcecloses when I try to acitvate it. I should probably stop these questions on this thread.

Meh , there is no option to activate lockscreen in button savior, by default locks the screen so you don't have press power button or wait 2minutes min to lock it. I moved the app to /system/app and have no problem.

OK, so I'm possibly the biggest idiot to ever own an Android. I rooted my SGH-T959d via SuperOneClick a few months ago and decided to remove bloatware, along with stock keyboard, and "my files". I kept the original launcher. Just an hour ago, I was playing around with my phone trying to flash a ROM through CWM recovery (which didn't work due to the infamous signature verification problem) and I managed to do a factory reset. Now, all of my old apks - including root file explorer and hacker's keyboard - are on the external sd, and I have no idea how to view them to reinstall them. I am also stuck without stock internet and wifi has a password; therefore requiring a keyboard which I do not have.
I've tried going on Google Play on my laptop and sending new apps to my device, but I can't re-register on my phone due to lack of keyboard. I am freaking out so much I'm surprised I'm typing.

Sorry to bother you with an old question, and a noob one for you maybe.
But how did you solved your problem? I'm in prety much the same predicament, but with my tablet. It's a Brazilian, unknown model (Tectoy Octopus TT-2800), so I can't find any roms for it, stock or not
Did you succeeded in installing a keyboard? How? I'm only having access to the configurations menu, can't launch Google play or even if I managed, I couldn't login in it or access the WiFi cause I don't have a keyboard to input the password. And the damn thing doesn't even have mobile internet cause it's WiFi only.
I did research about this ThinkFreeOffice you mentioned, but don't know how to use it to launch the keyboard apk. I actually managed to copy the swiftkey, Titanium Backup and root explorer apks in the sd card, both internal and external via usb cable from my laptop.
I will be grateful for any insight you may have
Cheers
Marcel

I have tried Root Explorer and it allows me to read and write to the SD card. I have Root Call blocker and that works as well, I have tried Xposed Framework and so far no go, it does a reboot and you will lose root. This is still a work in progress but it looks a lot more promising than a couple of months ago.
I did not use any img files due to mine being a note edge and I think those files are for those who have taken the lollipop upgrade on their Note 4's. Since we have not received the lollipop upgrade to our edge's yet you should be good to at least temporary root because it is only working on KitKat.
I was able to temp root with king root 4.0.1 apk ... and was able to remove bloatware files from: system/app and: system/priv-app but after reboot they are all back.
Update.... after temp rooting. . Install Titanium Backup and Freeze system apps will enable you to "turn off" apps that you otherwise wouldn't be able to disable through the stock app manager in settings menu.
See screenshot below. ...
Screenshot
Screenshot of TouchWiz disabled because I use a different Home Launcher. And YES it keeps disabled through a reboot.
Was able to turn off The KNOX apps as well... seems to keep root longer without rebooting. HOWEVER root doesn't last forever.. meaning apps like Titanium Backup will lose root... and you will have to reboot and run King root again to get temp root to freeze more apps etc.
This is still a work in progress, hopefully the losing root problem will be fixed soon.
This is nice but after messing with it all week I gave up. I could easily get temp.root and get SU installed but you lose root after about an hour even if you touch nothing. You will also get random reboots a lot and then have to start over.

If you install Titanium Backup and "freeze" all the Knox apps [see post 7, 8, & 9] you can keep root long enough to freeze all unwanted bloatware. That way you can at least "turn off" [disable] those apps from running in background etc. It's something more then we had.
Keep at it guys! I'll join when I get some time tomorrow and Monday

Yup, this worked. All week I was trying to "remove" these applications via tibu but yesterday I just froze them. I still lost root but see everything I froze is still listed as "Turned off" in Application manager. That will do for now, Thanks!
when you temp root, use TiBu to "convert to user app" this should move all the files to the user apps directory instead of system apps then try to uninstall and see if they come back after reboot. Just a hunch but I can't try since I don't have the retail version.

You need to long press on the app. Towards the end of the setting that popup you should see the convert to user app setting.
Easiest way I found was to freeze all the apps you don't want, filter for frozen apps then go through the list converting them to user apps
Edit: this doesn't work. They will install themselves back after doing this.
I figured they would come back.. freezing app is as good as it gets for now.
long press or swipe right to get to the additional options. also thank you guys for confirming that for me. i wasnt for sure since I dont have the retail version to test out on.
also i think i remember reading in the note 4 forum that they were able to get it perma deleted by uninstalling all updates then uninstalling the app or something along those lines. I will go back and read it again to be sure of what i read, i may have misread.
I used this method to disable knox and bloatware on my Verizon Edge even without root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/disable-knox-ota-root-t2972263
As far as temp root is concerned using King root, I suppose while on a rooted state, one can make changes to the system such as:
1) Enabling 3rd party apps like ES File Explorer to write to SD card by modifying platform.xml as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524277
2) Enabling hidden menu (if this is important to you) by modifying /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu file.
Even if you lose root, the changes you made to these files should stick, correct?
