My S2 is on custom rom. It gets stuck on boot screen when ever I restart it after it hangs or sudden power off due to low battery.
So today my phone turned off due to low power and now it's stuck at boot screen. I have made a backup using Philz touch recovery and did a factory reset. All I want to know is how to restore the data that I backed up without boot failure ?
I mean will it again stuck at boot screen after restoring previous data ?
Thanks

There are several apps in play store that can specifically pick out app pr their data, or similar stuff from nandroid backups. I restored my app+data using titanium backup, but i've also heard of AppExtractor

I recommend you changing ROM...try NeatROM(if you like it stock) for a few days.See if that happens.

I said: try to factory reset/wipe all data and reflash ROM.Try this for a few days.Anyway, why don't you ask in ROMs thread?

I did but the author is not responding due to studies.
It works after factory reset and reflashing the ROM but I have to install every app again and again.
I am asking for a fix without doing factory reset.
And there obviously isn't one. So, you can either do the factory reset, or put up with the issue *shrug*

I have been through bootloops at least 5-6 times. This has never worked for me. Always had to factory reset to make it work.
To maker of this thread:
Try having Nandroid backup once in a while. And don't worry, this seems to be your first time as you're freaking out too much. Bootloops aren't hard brick. Resetting to factory defaults or restoring Nandroid backups or flashing totally another custom ROM should work.

Go back to stock, see if it still happens while you are there. If so, return it and ask for a new one. If it doesn't, flash CM again and read the CM thread; you just might find a fix for that issue.

What ROM do you use?
Settings->about phone->build number should give you the ROM name and the firmware it's based on.

Just click restore. You don't have to delete anything first because it will be deleted/replaced by the restored rom

Anyone else experiencing freezes at boot logo.. I have twrp? stock rom?
Only way to fix is a battery pull .. this is phone number two as well. both did it?
Thank u,

Stuck
I'm also stuck on Verizon boot logo. I installed TWRP, did a backup, and installed Google wallet. After the reboot, it just stays on Verizon logo. I turned phone off, and help volume up, home, and power button. It just goes back to Verizon boot logo....Help!!!

How long are you waiting. On a deodexed rom it takes a couple minuted and looks frozen at the verizon screen on the first boot.
This is soo odd...and annoying... im perfectly fine until I install a deodexed rom.. I am able to boot up to it one time but after the next reset it freezes on
the custom unlock Verizon logo?
my phone? I have tried 2 deodexed roms
Curious to see if phone number three does the same thing.

I figured it out
When doing a wipe on internal storage with recovery causes it.
Weirdly enough you will be fine until your 2nd reboot.
any ideas what is going on?
Problem is with all roms including stock.

It's rebuilding the caches for all the apps. On AOSP this is explicitly shown as the "Android is upgrading" screen. On TW it does it during the Verizon boot animation loop. On the second boot the caches are already built.

You realize PaulB just said that it's freezing on the second reboot, which the caches are already built right?

Why are you wiping the internal storage? You only need to do a factory reset, which removes downloaded apps, reverts stock apps back to normal and removes all your personal data. I remember reading that performing an internal wipe removes the encryption on the internal memory. Maybe that's what is causing the issue.
I misread...I thought he said he was fine on the second boot.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda premium
Wiping the internal storage is not something I would normally do but did on occasion with the s3. There's no need for it really...
I am just happy its not the phone. it was difficult to diagnose because I would wipe factory and if I had a bunch of zip files I no longer needed on internal storage I would go on ahead and wipe that as well before installing a rom.
it would boot up fine and I could go a day or so before rebooting and it freezing so I didn't know what I was doing.
Just wanted to let everyone know ..
DONT WIPE YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE.
even a nandroid backup will fail after you encounter a freeze. The only way to fix it was to flash the stock odin.
Thanks for your input,
Paul

DON'T do a factory reset! OP states he is on 4.04. Search 'emmc brickbug', you may have it as you're on 4.0.4. If you do have the brickbug, a factory reset will brick your phone.
OP, by 'losing your data' do you mean photos etc? If so, you can flash a new firmware (download from Samfirmware) using Odin without losing photos etc. However, you will lose your app data (settings of apps etc). Better than having a bootlooping phone though.
then forgot abt the backup

So he doesn't sync contacts to google? (in sync options, 'sync contacts'? if ticked, then all contacts can be restored to phone after signing in to google account on new rom). If you do install new firmware: to be on the safe side, flash an ICS-compatible Siyah kernel using Odin. Then you'll be safe to wipe, as Siyah has the emmc bug (emmc_cap_erase) disabled. Then, flash new firmware in Odin.
Some people report success of upgrading with no loss of data (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2116344) so you technically could try upgrading with no wipe.
Flashed New Frimware.

Hi guys! I don't know what is happened, but my phone doesn't turn on anymore... When I press the on button, the galaxy s II boot image appears, and then the boot kernel's image (i've dorimanx kernel). After 5 second, the image disappears, and remain a black screen... if i press the back and home button, they light for a bit. I tried to wait 10 minutes, but nothing. What could it be? I won't format my phone there are a lot of data... :crying:

I had this problem a few times after uninstalling Android tweaker Pro. The bad news is that I had to go into recovery, which was kinda hard, and reinstall my rom. The good news is that you could try doing that without wiping anything, as long as it's the same rom that you already had installed.

You can install the same rom without losing data, that's just common sense, but you may have to clear cache if you get a bootloop.

Do you have any idea about why, or does it just never opens? Maybe it has something to do with your ROM (a bug?) You can choose to wait until whatever dev made your ROM updates, if you can open phone.apk you can see your contacts from there so it shouldn't be a problem, you can also try to re-install your rom and clear caches this time.
why don't you just make a back up of your contacts on google..... and then sync again when you install another ROM....... you won't loose any of your contact that way even in future........
