STOCK-(Kernel&Rom) YP-G70 USA - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

hello everyone i decided to create this thread for anyone who accidentally bricked their galaxy player 5.0 USA model or just wants to set their device to the original GB ROM & KERNEL.
all of these files i have found and i did not create anything but this tutorial for you guys!
ENJOY!!!!
you will need odin only
you will maintain root access
link to .zip download

README File
*****************************************************
Ok this is how to fully restore your Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 USA to factory defaults even if you are on jellybean or an other rom
this also works if you have soft-bricked your device.
1. open odin
2. select PIT and choose the G70-GalaxyPlayer5.0-8gig.pit
3. click start
4. let your device reboot and reboot it into download mode
5. open a fresh odin again without the pit selected
6. go to PDA and select package_us2.3.5.tar.md5
7. click start
--dont freak out if your device reboots and stays at the SAMSUNG logo just boot into download mode
8. open a fresh odin again
9. go to PDA and select ueki8_min.tar.md5
10. click start
NOTE-- when the device reboots you need to hold volume up and the power button to go to standard android recovery
11. in android recovery click factory reset and erase cache
12. reboot your galaxy player and it should look exacty as you bought it (plus superuser b/c you are still rooted)
13. if you want to all you need to go back to flashing roms is to put clockworkmod recovery on your device
14. your done

wnerena the
Thanks! This helped because most posts and tutorials don't point out that you have to do the pit / kernel / rom steps one at a time (and bootloaders). I was trying to slam dunk the pit, bootloaders and kernel in one update and it wasn't working.

is your device fully charged? try to flash the recovery file then turn off your device while plugged into a charger and let it charge. i had a similar problem. make sure you have the latest odin for the best possibility of fixing your device. then start from step 1 and try again. it took me several tries before it finally worked.
i kinda have bricked mine 4 different times and have used this to get out of all of them. meaning it should work!!!

Yep, thanks for the help! I just needed to stop and charge my device in between flashing the ROM and second ROM, and it worked!

Please advise
Thanks for this post, guys. My device is finally doing more than just displaying (phone)-!-(computer). I successfully flashed the .pit, kernel and rom, but now I get a screen that displays
u for format and reboot actions (in red)
Media files copy failed. (in yellow)
# Manual Mode#
--Appling Multi-CSC...
Successfully applied multi-CSC.(in yellow)
E:Failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory) (in red)
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/recovery_kernel_log (in red)
E:copy_kernel_file :: Can't open /cache/recovery/recovery_kernel_log (in red)
And then the last 3 lines repeat twice.
The device will not shut down, either. It goes into a boot loop. Any advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks
edit: I got it! The home button works as enter. The OS is 2.3.5 instead if 2.3.7 but that's okay for now. I'm sure I'll try flashing a ROM soon. Any good ones?

i'd keep with a GB rom if you want the camera and hotspot to work i'm using Cosmos 0.3. if you want JB get the cyanogenmod 10.2 with the sultan kernel thats what i switched from.

Intermittent Wifi
This Stock ROM saved my device but the wifi is intermittent. I do need the camera, as well. GB is fine but I was hoping for 2.3.6 or later. Really, I don't care as long as camera and wifi works. Also, can I change from SuperUser to SuperSU or will that mess things up?

i would recommend using SuperSU its just my personal preference.

Thanks. How do I go about replacing Superuser? I flashed a ROM from Eryigit and Superuser is now a system app.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6 stuck on "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen
Today I ran into a serious problem. I was trying to flash the rooted ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1864741 : I have the US Version) using odin, and I followed all the steps. While doing it, Odin said it had failed, then I got the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen on my player. I can't enter download mode and my computer doesn't recognize it. The few times it does, it just says "Connecting.." in Kies and won't go past that. I've looked everywhere and couldn't find anything that works. Is there anything I can do? I feel like its just a soft brick but I really don't know. Please help.
you have already posted this on another thread. if someone looked they would have seen and responded.
also for future reference, please post questions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283877

Hello, I had that too
Follow these steps to unbrick your device:
1. Take the battery out of the device and wait a few seconds
2. Put the battery back in the device and wait a few seconds, again
3. Boot into Download Mode -> It will say "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select...." again. Ignore that!!!
4. If you haven't done it yet, download the stock ROM (Kernel and ROM) for the 3.6 US here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864741
5. Start Odin and select the tar-file from the stock ROM in the PDA section
6. Connect your Player, wait until the device is recognized...
7. Flash!
8. Disconnect it, and reboot
If this solved your problem -> Put "[SOLVED]" in your title
If not -> PM me!
Good luck, MrBrubble

In your situation, If you're loading attns stock ROM, you need to load his kernel as well.
And that ROM only works in Odin, no idea why it won't work in heimdall, but it won't.

Galaxy S3 Stuck on Boot Screen after Flashing a ROM

Hi, I'm new to these forums and need some help!
I just rooted my Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 yesterday using the Odin ver 1.85 tool and it was working perfectly all day. I was doing a little research as to how you can use custom ROMs and so I decided to give it a try.
I downloaded the ROM Manager application and flashed the ClockworkMod Recovery that comes with it before attempting to flash a ROM. I then proceeded to download the CyogenMod ver. 9.1.0 that comes with ROM Manager as well. I made sure to make a backup of my current ROM on both my internal and external SD cards and then went ahead and flashed the Cyogen ROM using the application. I also chose to wipe the data/factory reset before confirming.
After the process was done, the phone rebooted with the Cyogen logo and it was all working fine for the first 2 minutes. Then all of a sudden while going through the new ROM's screens, my phone rebooted showing the "Samsung GALAXY S III GT-I9300" message and with a little red "!" mark on the top left. It stays like that all the time. I tried turning the power off and taking out the battery but it always goes back to that screen immediately after.
I'm able to go into the ClockworkMod recovery by holding the volume up+power+home buttons but I see the following lines below:
ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.3.2
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
I've tried wiping the cache, wipe data/factory reset, and wiping the dalvik cache options but it doesn't seem to work. I also tried flashing the ROM again from the SD card, but when I try to do it, it says "E: Can't mount /sdcard/". Same thing with my external SD card.
When I plug the phone to my computer, it doesn't seem to detect my device either. Is my phone bricked and will I have to get a new one if this is the case?
I tried to do some searching and this thread seems to be similar to what I'm facing but not quite as the methods suggested by the users are unknown to me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500947
I appreciate any help I can get!

I tried to flash the i9300 firmware using Odin as suggested but it failed during the process (attached screen shot). I tried doing this 2 or 3 times but I always got the FAIL message. Is there anything else I can try doing before giving up on my phone? Maybe I flashed the wrong file?

Yeap you are right, I should have stated that!
The article states that you should user root66 and Linked boot chains for your device.
This sounds like it might help with OP problem.
He for sure has wrong kernel ... that is similar enough to work but screw is mounting point. Try change kernel with odin ... then flash with odin twrp or philz recovery and flash a proper rom

Sounds like you're still on a stock recovery
If signature verification fails, you need to be on a custom recovery. Then you can turn signature verification off in settings. If you're not on Custom recovery, well you cant flash anything unofficial

I really want to have the nexus version installed.
And I rooted it without a laptop, though... My laptop hates me, cause it accepts every usb device, except for my phone. So I rooted it without my laptop..
Is there any change of still succeeding?

When you manually boot into recovery (From off, Vol down + Home + Power), what version does it say? How did you root?
So, I didnt find any Version info, But I rooted my phone with an app I found on the market, I think it was called RootBox or something.
Later I performed a factory reset, because my phone was getting anything but faster.
Anyway, thanks in advance for your support. I hope we can figure this out

When you boot into recovery, what does it say? maybe a photo will help?
But if you didnt use an S3 root method, you probably still have stock recovery. You'll need to download a recovery and flash via Odin. Follow the root guides in general to do this
Well, I havent been able to make a picture of the screens I see, but her are the things I sea, described:

Then there are those blue rules:

Apply update from external storage

Oh, by the way, I have rooted my phone with an app called SuperSU. It also asks for superusers permission.

[Q] adding clockwork recovery not working,

First, let me apologize for what I'm sure is repetition, I searched the site and could not find the step by step process that I need. So again sorry.
I have a rooted Vibrant (I think, the superuser permission icon is there, from the market I downloaded "SU update fixer" and "BusyBox"because somewhere online it said I should) I updated to froyo when it originally came out and was told I had to go back to eclair to root which I just did 3 days ago.
My problem is I can't get clockwork recovery on my phone so I can flash a rom. I've downloaded heimdall and went through the steps (when I'm in the command prompt screen I get the error that it is not recognized as an internal or external command. Also "rom manager" Google market link does not recognize my phone, so I can't just download the app directly. It doesn't even come up when I search the market on my phone.
Another question, I thought once I rooted I'd be able to delete some bloatware from the device? How do I do it? Do I need to flash a rom before I can do this?
If it helps here are the current specs of my phone:Model SGH-T959, Firmware 2.1-update1, Baseband T959uvjfd, Kernel 2.2.29,Build Eclair
Please help.
Please help!!

Try this (Use method B) it works like a charm every time.
also note that you dont have to install a custom rom if you prefer not to.
if you just flash the zip and reboot to clockworkmod then your set.
this is from s15274n's guide found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
There are two options here. Choose which is best for you, before you start.
ROOT ONLY METHOD:
A – This is an update.zip (633KB) that roots your phone only. You can then install Rom Manager from the Market to flash CWR (Clockwork Recovery) and install custom ROMs.
INSTALL CLOCKWORK RECOVERY AND FLASH A ROM THAT WILL GIVE ROOT ACCESS (MY PREFERRED METHOD):
B – use the other update.zip (1.7MB) and this will flash CWR for you – allowing you to immediately flash a custom ROM.. I do this because it's faster.
1.
A: Download this update.zip file to root your phone. You plan to install Rom Manager to flash CWR and a new ROM later.
B: Download this update.zip file to flash CWR... you will need to flash a custom ROM for Root. I prefer this method.
NOW DOWNLOAD THE ROM YOU PLAN TO FLASH
2.
Copy the update.zip (and the ROM) to the INTERNAL SD (not the external SD Card). sdcard/
3.
Unplug the USB (assuming you are still connected after using ODIN)...
Hold down volume up + volume down + Power for about 9 seconds.
If you prefer, you can power off your phone, then hold in all 3 buttons to boot into recovery, I don't see the point in waiting for the phone to power off.
This will get you to a recovery menu (blue/purple text) after some yellow text.
4.
In this (the stock recovery menu) select 'Reinstall Packages'
Use volume to navigate + power to select.
5.
It will cycle a bit, you will see that yellow text again, then it will return to the stock recovery. Select Reinstall packages again.
You are now in CWR (clockwork recovery).
You can either reboot, flash your new ROM or make a backup now...

if you backed up with Titanium backup you'll need to restore them with that, but to do so you'll want to have the market to download titanium backup.
So to get the google apps back you'll need to flash the gapps package (Cyanogen mod doesn't include them by default)
here is the full list for all versions of android: http://goo.im/gapps
but I beleive youll want this one for 4.2.2: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
just reboot into recovery and flash it (no need to reflash the ROM but if you ever change roms you would flash the rom first and then the gapps package)
once you boot back into android you'll have the market back.
Thanks Again

Odd, I've really only seen that when you try to install a carrier ota update over a custom ROM
Flash the ROM and then the gapps files again in that order and you should be fine though you'll need to restore your apps with titanium backup again afterward.

Or try an alternate ROM

For about 6hrs yesterday, I tried using odin to get back to original stock(eclair) it has not worked. I get a pass each time but the phone does not reboot, at first it just relooped the vibrant screen, now vibrant screen flashes then screen goes black. When the phone is plugged in the battery icon just reloops. I noticed that when odin was done the beginning of the recovery screen had a red "data wipe failed" within the normal yellow text then it would turn off and go to the battery screen again. I've used several versions of odin none have worked. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I'm afraid it may be dead forever although I've read many posts that state that android phones are almost impossible to brick. I'm at my wits end.

I had that happen once but it was because of a lagfix.
below is a thread with someone with the same issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8734352
Also below is what fixed it (it also worked for me but my issue was for sure a lagfix issue):

Hopefully this helps.
luckily the Vibrant is famously hard to completely brick.
it usually just takes some trial and error to fix it.
don't give up

the initial odin file you are flashing is a modified 19000 file.
if the 19000 kernel is flashed then the hardware buttons will be mixed up.
dont worry though if you got that far its good dont worry about using the power button to reboot.
just pull the battery.
then you'll need to use Odin again to flash the original android 2.1 files again.
this time it should go through and you'll be back where you started.
from there you'll need to re-root and flash the ROM of your choice.
Still not working

Ok so I pulled the battery, went back into download mode and tried to flash the original android files. When I did that I ended up with the stuck vibrant screen again. or if its plugged in the battery icon just keeps restarting. I've tried several versions of odin, nothing seems to work. I just keep going back and forth flashing the 19000 and trying to flash the original 2.1. I keep ending up at the same place. Every time I go through the odin process I always get a pass, but the original files do not flash. Again I appreciate all your help, I'll keep at it for a day or so but I'm losing the bit of patience I have left.

try following the steps below, I added the links for the files you'll need (hopefully the links are working, I cant test them from work unfortunately)
note that the first odin file is an 19000 file and the volume buttons on the phone will be reversed and menu selection will not work in recovery.
if you need to reboot you can use ADB or just pull the battery.
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file. HERE
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Download the 'True stock 2.1 firmware for the vibrant'. HERE
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine! BAM!
Still no luck.

Yup, This was the order that I followed to the T. So step #7 was what got 19000 on my phone. It never errored out or rebooted just went to 19000 recovery screen and stays there. I took the battery out, put it back in, went back to download mode, I downloaded and tried to flash the True stock 2.1 and that's what got me to just a Vibrant screen. I'm not sure if my PC(windows XP) is the problem though this is the same PC I used to root and flash cyanogenmod, or if something inside the phone is messed up. I did notice during an earlier recovery the words "wipe data fail" in red among the normal yellow text. This may be the cause of the repeated bad flashes of the stock 2.1. I'll keep trying when I get off today and tomorrow but I may have to bite the bullet and get a new phone on Thurs.

You might have already tried this but you might try leaving it at the vibrant logo for a good 10 minutes.
I find that when I odin back to stock it takes a bit longer than usual to boot.
If it stays stuck you might try pulling the battery and try booting to recovery (if Odin was successful back to stock it should be the stock recovery)
if it lets you into stock recovery we will at least know the odin flash worked.

Last 5.1.1 ROOT+ CWM

1 - Get Odin
2 - Get CWM Recovery View attachment n915p-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.1(1128).tar.zip or TWRP View attachment twrp-3.0-915P_915R4.tar
3 - Get SuperSU-v2.46.zip and move it to SD card or internal storage.
4 - Flash CWM Recovery.tar via Odin. After powwer off to reboot, press and hold vol+ / Home / Power. You should see CWM recovery. If you don’t see this, your phone may have a “recovery overwrite” feature. You can use the battery pull method
5 - Choose “Install Zip” then “choose zip from /sdcard” or “choose zip from /storage/extSdcard” depending on where you copied the SuperSU zip file to earlier.
6 - Once rebooted, you will find SuperSU app, select it to run it.
7 - enjoy
If CWM tells you SuperSU is not installed, and asks you to install it, do not do it!
I have personally tested this method on COFE & COK2. Think on COG1 should work to. Everything is working. GSM/CDMA, data, BT, GPS, Shealth.... etc.
BUT ALL THAT THE ABOVE ONLY at your own risk

i cant get recovery to flash. when i go to reboot to recovery, it starts a system update and says no command. it brings me to stock recovery.
OK having some troubles getting this to work. In step #2 the first link downloads a file folder that wont open. Says "windows cannot open invalid file" if just click on it, if right click "open" it says file empty
The second link in # 2 takes me to http://galaxynote4root.com/cwmtwrp-recovery/ which list the tar files, when I click on the one i want i get sent to http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyNote4/TWRP/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.1-trltespr.img.tar
At that point, however, nothing actually downloads the file that I see. All the "download" buttons are actually fake/traps that try to get you to download a pdf converter file or something. Cant see a real download link. Not really interested in paying money to sign up for the promised high speed download.
Am I doing something real wrong here????
EDIT, OK problem # 2 solved, I had to get rid of two different ads, and say WHY i didnt want to see that ad before the CAPATCHA thing finally showed up. But what is the first link with the empty file for?
FINAL EDIT: Got it to work off of the video links finally. Thanks OP for the heads up on the overwrite issue I put the steps to fix that below or you can see it done here at about the 7:20 mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTz-QuZ-rxo&feature=youtu.be

Had same issue when following the links from the video.
The problem as the OP stated is the overwrite feature on Samsungs. What you have to do is as follows:
1. Get back into download mode
2. Open Odin and plug in phone - be sure auto boot is off
3. RE-flash (i know you did it before, have to do it again)
4. When you get the "pass" and had fully loaded on phone then pull the battery.
5. Now unplug from computer
6. now hit home-power-up volume
7. release home as soon as see something
SHOULD go into proper recovery for you and then can install the super user zip.
DO NOT ever click "yes" to the "do you want to root question" if you get it

Thanks, problem was having there was that I could not never actually download the file. There were ads (the "fake" "download" links on the download page that tried to trick you into downloading another file like pdf converter) that were keeping the CAPTCHA thing from showing. After i closed the ads, then the CAPTCHA showed up and I could download.
This file is different however from the one on the video. The video takes you to "n915p-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.1(1128).tar" your link is "openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.1-trltespr.img.tar" whats the difference do you know?
And big thanks on the heads-up about the overwrite issue. never had that before on my past notes but sure did this time.
