This is free. heres another explanation as well as an unlock source... if your buddy buddy with the tech flashing it, ask him for the factory image with a usb you bring, or slip him 50 and post it here :0 and get a dongle that puts galaxies into FACTORY MODE, not odin mode. then flash.

Take it to a US Cellular store, they will unlock it for free, the unlock requires a flash, their are no codes that can unlock this. This unlocks the cdma part of the phone for cdma carriers, the sim is used for the 4g capability. a law passed in late 2014 by Obama's administration dictates that no carrier can have a carrier lock on a customer owned device. so if the ESN is bad *means stolen or not paid for, same thing* then its a no go. if its under a lease or pay plan, its a no go till you fully pay for the device.
half the reason carriers are going to leased devices now is to prevent unauthorized rooting of phones. and so they can develop proprietary images. This in essence, means your are "renting" the phone, with it not being yours, you cant root or unlock without their say so, nor can you reverse engineer their code legally.
the community is ahead, or has been, and just hasn't posted alot of known methods in fear (and respectively so) due to companies looking through these forums (and many other sources...)all the time.
IN SUMMARY take it to US Cellular and they will flash it for free, problem solved. while your at it, get it unlocked, dump the images and post it here please. US Cellular is not in the south.

firstly you need to flash the tmobile based ics modem ( flash in cwm or twrp) found here:

then after flashing boot into your rom and follow these instructions exactly (note: after pressing perso shaf256 off I had to press back twice instead of once, but then I was back on the network page and could choose [4] NW LOCK NV DATA INITIALLIZ):

Can't wait to try this on my Bell Note! I'm going to Florida soon and have been procrastinating on getting the phone unlocked...
Score one for procastination!
I was surprised when it actually worked... I got screwed out of an unlock code by an online company (only 8 bucks but still) so when I saw the t989 modem and thread about free unlock for their phone (using the same modem you can flash on ours) I had to try it! I flashed a rogers radio afterward and the unlock stayed also.
Thanks for posting! I'll definitely be trying this out when my Note arrives on Saturday.
Worked perfectly!
I am impressed! I worked like a charm in the very first try! I used a AT&T Galaxy Note I717 with stock ROM (I717UCLF6, kernel 3.0.8). The best part is that later I flashed another ROM (Padawan) and it remained unlocked. Did a couple of phone calls and it is working great! Thank you so much! :victory:
you're quite welcome guys! Figured I had to share the wealth on this one and hopefully save some users some cash and/or getting scammed by too good to be true unlock code site "deals".
Got my note unlocked for $3 but I will pass this method on.
Thanks.

The Note has been out for a while. Is there any reason not to simply call ATT (or whatever carrier you have) and ask them for the unlock code? Don't get me wrong. If this method is safe and if it works, then thank you for sharing.
can anyone verify this does work on at&t? and do we just reflash an at&t modem after its done?

Sorry, Crixley. I think your post is appreciated, and though I wasn't terribly excited at first, I did thank you. I forgot to push the Thanks button but that's taken care of now. I wasn't sold at first that this unlock would work but it appears to be valid for several users. And, being an ATT user for many years, I can get my unlock with a simple phone call. However, I see your post as very valuable for many others. So, THANKS!

I would just enjoy the phone for now and wait. There is confirmation on unlocking the boot and getting root if this is true which it seems to be there is not much we can do with it until our devs start cooking home made goodies. The only reason I would be anxious to root is for tethering but there are apps that will give you tether without rooting in the play store.
I'm not an addict I just flash a lot.

I have one more Q ( dont want to create another thread )
Im around 3yrs with simple mobile and after 3 yrs everything can be changed. Which servis ( and if you knoe the deal ) is the best for my unlocked i9300 att or t-mobile ? if cant go with verizon.
I want to have $50 or less per month and unlimited everything.
Like i said i found http://goo.gl/nfXnij and have to choose att or tmobile sim card. I can go also with family 2 lines.
Also what about verizon http://goo.gl/CbS0r ??
Which deal and service is the best today ?
Does the i9300 work on both? Compare att frequencies and t-mobile with i9300.
Would you not be better getting a t-mobile version or att version?
Can't help with plans. Remember, the i9300 isn't sold officially in the US so most of us are not Americans

Well ... good to know
You will only get 3G on AT&T, unless you're in one of the areas that T-Mobile has started adding their new frequency towers in. So you're best bet is AT&T. I'm American. And use my I9300 on AT&T fine.

We cannot determine if a specific make & model will or will not work with Page
Plus. In general, you can use any unlocked, Verizon-compatible, CDMA phone on
our network.
If the handset is not an approved Page Plus Cellular device, we cannot
guarantee that web access or picture messaging will work properly on the phone.
We do not have any server information to provide if the device is not an
approved Page Plus phone.
Should you activate any non-approved Page Plus phone on our system we can
provide you with our basic programming sequence, but once more we cannot
guarantee the programming of the device will be successful, nor will we have a
way of telling you exactly why a phone will not work with Page Plus. We can
provide troubleshooting for most Page Plus approved devices. If the device you
are trying to activate is not an approved Page Plus device, troubleshooting may
be limited to the information we have available.

Yes .. sorry i was in rush.
So one more time. I asked about unlocked i9300 ill work with pageplus. He answer "Only if you have it flashed". So i told him i have rooted phone and change ROM often and is this enought or i need something else like program or setup. And he answer "you may have enough to go with that. But you already answered this and i trust you more then him.
You can never use an i9300 on verizon as CDMA. You have to use it as GSM. Im not sure who page plus are it what they offer in gsm. You'd need to compare their gsm frequency bands with the i9300.

What I think you got from her was the network unlock code, all that does is allow you to move to another provider using the same phone.
So whats the difference between network unlock and phone unlock?

Network unlock is as above ^, the bootlock you mentioned in your first post is there to stop you removing their software, it's not something that you can change with a code. You need to remove the boot lock before you can replace the os with a custom one. Before you attempt to do anything like this I advise reading up on it, you don't want to brick another phone. The information is easily found by using google search.

No boot unlock yet so no custom recovery or custom ROMs.
I am talking about the I527 btw!
All,
I have the Verizon Galaxy S4 Developer Edition. I purchased this one b/c it had an unlocked bootloader and I like to install custom recoveries so I can install custom ROMs. Originally, it came with the MDK firmware on it and I was able to root it and install a custom recovery.
I applied the OTA MJ7 update. While I am able to root the device, I have not been able to install a custom recovery. After doing a ton of reading and soft bricking, everyone says that the latest firmware locks down the bootloader so that you cannot install custom recoveries.
Here lies my confusion...I bought the Developer Edition so my bootloader would never be locked and I could always install custom recoveries. Is there something I'm missing? Is it possible for me having a Developer Edition phone to install a custom recovery even though I'm on build I545VRUEMJ7?
In talking with Samsung support, they said that the bootloader will NEVER be locked with any updates on the Developer edition. Any information or help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jonathan

I purchased it directly from the Samsung website. I tried to post the link but it wouldn't let me since I haven't made enough posts. If you google "galaxy s4 developer edition", it is the first non-advertised link that shows up. That's where I purchased it from.
If you take the cover and battery out, it says Developer Edition on the phone.

Thats what I've heard too. I'm no expert in the Dev S4, but I think I've seen a thread or two stating the same kind of problem. Which is crazy if you ask me.
Edit
I know Surge1223 I think posted the Dev Edition MDK firmware somewhere on here, I suggest maybe checking with him, maybe you can flash that back in your phone and be good?!
If nothing else, find that thread and ask him what to do... My guess is he'll have an answer for you.

You locked your bootloader.
You used ODIN to install a MJ7 OTA file?
Consumer firmware can be installed on a Dev. edition, but it locks the bootloader.
They should have said something about that. They didn't?
I don't think you are going to get anywhere with support unless you send the phone back for a replacement. IMHO

How bad is it that people like him hey a Dev Edition that SHOULD always stay unlocked in my opinion, then are able to lock it back up?!?!
To me that's ridiculous. I'd be more than pissed if that was me.
There was a thread somewhere on here containing a conversation between that person and Samsung I think, and the Sammy rep told that person that the Dev Edition would never be locked even through any OTA.
Seems like such a circle jerk dealing with those people, I've fired off a couple emails myself just for laughs to Samsung about various things, and that's all they do is BS us.
What a shame, a Dev S4 that is just like my locked up mj7 S4.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I am an owner of a DevS4. What the OP did was definitely not a good thing. The DevS4 came originally with I545OYUAMDK. The retail S4 came with I545VRUAMDK. The only difference is that the DevS4 has a different ABOOT partition which allows for the unlocking. By applying the MJ7 OTA or ODIN file he essentially over-wrote his ABOOT partition, locking his phone down and turning it into a regular retail S4. The DevS4's are now sold with I545OYUEMJ7 - he applied I545VRUEMJ7. Unless Samsung will help him out by flashing the firmware to his phone so he can go back to Developer state, he is SOL with a DevS4 now turned into a locked down retail S4.
I only say this based on what I have seen/witnessed.
I've seen this happen before and Samsung took the phone and flashed the correct firmware, not saying you'll be so lucky but search around and you may find what I'm remembering.

Not so sure if it a case of not having interest, I just don't think they thought it out fully. They produced them and spent the money investing in it. There is a Note 3 Developer edition as well. They just didn't fully think out the implications of support, updating, etc. Which is a shame. The Samsung Developer Device program could have been huge if it was executed properly. To take a retail device, change a few letters from "VRE" to "OYU", slap a sticker on it and call it a developer device, while it still contains KNOX and other developer unfriendly aspects was poor execution.
Maybe there should be a caution sticky here to not ODIN Consumer Ed images onto Dev Ed devices.
Its odd that Samsung even has this program but I guess they want devs to create Samsung Apps for carrier devices.

Listen I feel sorry for the OP but it's completely his fault for flashing a consumer device image. I know if I were Samsung I wouldn't expect people who buy DEVELOPER editions to do something as silly as that.
