[Q] Pandora song info refresh - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having an odd issue with the Android app, I'm using JB 4.2 leaked from Samsung. When I'm using it with my car stereo the app doesn't seem to refresh the song information. That means my car stereo display remains stuck displaying the information of the first song played. If I unlock at phone and look at the app the information is the same the display, and lock screen, are showing. Sometimes unlocking the phone and opening the app makes it refresh and display the current song info.
It's very annoying. I tried Pandora support but they gave me the usual uninstall and reinstall answer, adding they don't support custom and rooted roms, of course...
I know it's a long shot but... you never know. Any idea? Could be the rom? I froze Play Music because it was always starting on its on, does that break anything?

Best way to find out is first unfreeze play music and test and second is to drop back down to 4.1.2 and test. If first doesn't work but second does then its to do with 4.2.2 leak.

I'm stupid, of course I can unfreeze it and find out. Sorry.
As for going back to 4.1.2, that's gonna be time consuming and sadly I don't have much free time. Heh. I was hopping someone who has it running on its phone could confirm of deny having the same issue. That's why I was saying "long shot".

What happened when you unfrozen it? Did it work.? Sorry I can't help you.

Provided that Google Music works flawlessly with the car stereo, nope it didn't change anything, sadly.
I'll keep you posted if there are developments.
[Update 08/12/2013]
I gave up. Ditched Pandora for Google Play Unlimited. I know, Pandora is awesome, but for me this crap is important. I'm sick in the head.

Same issue with Samsung G4
Any update on this? I am having the same issue with brandnew out of the box Samsung G4. No mods or anything.
I also notice that on reconnecting to the car (after being turned off), the volume is very low but gets restored to the correct level when the track changes to the next one.

[Q] Wow the Atrix has been a PAIN! [[HELP]]

So I now use my Moto Atrix as my music player like I did with my Captivate. The only problem is, is that my music player randomly stops in the middle of the song. I go back to the player to press play and the song starts over......
this is one of MANY problems that I have been having with the Atrix.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Not sure what that issue is but you might want to try another music program. I messed around with the included player for a short bit but I got winamp and I really like it so far. There's quite a few other good options out there.
Hope you're able to figure something out.

Do you know of anything like the player on the iPod touch? Or something that works as good as the Samsung Android music player?
Edit: THANK YOU!!! Winamp is working amazingly and the problem has been fixed.
Edit: Continues to have the same damn problem....... f**k the Atrix
Still having the same issue with winamp? That seems odd... what file types are you using?

Do me a favor and post your bug in this thread on their support forum:

I've got the same problem. But one thing I am sure is that when you use task manager to kill background program, don't kill those you are not familiar with.I tried several times to find out what's impacting the music player, but finally,it turns out to be obscure.I mean when I erase everything from the kill list, music wont stop in sleep mode, but I cannot prescisely tell who are they.It seems that several programs together work on it.Most suspect those whoes string having 'media' in them.

Some people just react and blame instead of trying to find the solution.
I went through that once due to a task killer. I ignored the music app from the task killer, but eventually realized the task killer was not needed!

I now blame the Auto Kill ---- I don't have the Music app in the Auto Kill and I thought that the phone was acting dumb, so I guess the Auto Kill was being a little b*tch
Don't know if this is a fix for everyone but I was having the same problem. I removed the gallery app from the auto-kill list and it fixed the issue. I tested it several times by adding and removing the gallery app to and from the auto-kill list. Every time it was on the list, the music would cut out after sleep. Every time I removed it, everythnig functioned mormally.
ok i did my own tests today adding programs to auto-kill list and playing back audio in between. the playback issue only appears when the screen go dark . i focused first on apps that in my opinion had nothing to do with media and after all this time consuming process i found that adding certain programs creating the problem . here is the DO NOT list and hope this work for all of ya
1) gallery
2) purchased media*
3) music
* im sure this folder was created after sync with my itunes . i used motorola media link app ( free download from motorola site) which work like charm on my mac pro adding exactly that i checked. keep in mind that your case could be different depending on type of sync or adding media method so its up to you finding the correct folder. now if you sync via the mentioned moto app you maybe having other folders on list like podcasts or whatever you decided add to your phone storage . i cant confirm this because only folder i synced was purchased media . post your findings... peace!
why are you guys even bothering auto killing apps? thats a big no-no
+1 auto-kill = BAD JUJU
If your going to use a TaskManager, use it only to manually stop rogue processes or apps. Never let it run on its own.
I used OSMonitor to kill off apps as needed. There's tons out there, but only use one that doesn't run automatically.
Dude, seriously, are you 12 or something?
Grow up man!!

Agreed... I'm not sure why you feel the need to kill apps on a phone with a gig of RAM. The only thing it does is kills your battery when you have apps that continually try to restart, then the task killer kills them.
After running my phone without a reboot since Monday, and NO task killing, I still have around 250MB free, and have no problems running Dungeon Defenders, etc. No lag, no anything. Mind you, I run a live wallpaper, as well.

[Q] Music Junk HELP!

Does anyone know where I can find the latest version of Music Junk? Mine just keeps saying "Network Error" and all the searches I have done are really old posts. Can someone help me please???
Looks like it might be gone for good since the Facebook and Twitter page has been pulled....
I've been wondering the same, but I guess it really is finally gone for good... which blows because it was the best app for downloading music, hands down.
After posting my last, I installed Music Junk 4.3 on my phone again and opened it immediately to try it out again. I searched for music and it actually worked. I downloaded a couple of songs and everything, but then it stopped working after trying another search. Not sure what this means, but hopefully something positive...
Can you post a link for 4.3? I couldn't find it anywhere. I found other versions, but not that one. Pretty Please?
I have this problem with 4.3 I also tried to uninstall & reinstall. I tried 4.2 as well with no luck. This is typical of them when they change versions, but I haven't seen a 4.4 version out there...

I did last night, randomly... decided to install it again and try it. The first search worked and I was able to download several songs. After that, no such luck. I've been getting network error ever since.
I remember long time back (HTC hero days) music junk used to have some files, that used to pull data from these music websites, that used to get outdated. hence, the new versions would have the new files and we would not get the network errors...
If we can get a developer to look into some recent music junk versions and look into the changes made, we might be able to get it working again.

The thing is that music junk was the only app that showed the bitrate of each song. And it worked! The quality of songs was amazing.
The thing is that there is a very easy fix for this Network error... We just need a developer to look into it.

I agree, with Rolle you are at the mercy of whatever is available bit rate wise. I have had good results so far, sometimes CD 44.1 quality or near, sometimes its complete crap. My worst nightmares have come true. Music junk hands down the best music app without an overly stupid gui, has bitrate info, and the largest music selection.
I'm seriously debating getting back into java programming to make it work again... but soo much work
Samsung Galaxy S3 // tapatalk
Anybody know of an alternative method of downloading free music, I haven't paid for music in three years thanks to music junk.

I think it's a done deal, guys. Anytime the servers went offline & we waited on a new version,I was still able to download on mj ver3.0.that is the only version that would work all the time even when the newer current ones would come network error. Needless to say, 3 isn't working anymore.
No way 4.3 was working for me this month now i get network error why i love this app. Any one know if there is an update like 4.4 or am alternative app out there?
I'm using v 3.0.4, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The trick is i have to press search a few times, i get the "network error'' the first tries but eventually it loads the search page. I get the error far more times when im using the network than through wi fi. But once it goes through i click on the song and downloads on the first try.

[Q] Problems with jelly bean update. Talk back in particular.

I updated to jelly bean last week. It came with talk back. trying everything I can think of, I have come to the conclusion that if anything else in accessibility is on, talk back come on too. I have a pebble watch, an love it. But when either it, or pebble notifier, it light wave is on, then the blasted voice tells me everything I am doing. It's very annoying. I tried stopping talkback with system tuner, which led to even worse problems. (like no touch screen function except with the s-pen.) Does anyone know how to get rid of talk back? Thanks in advance.

Disable it in settings/application manager/all applications. Find talkback and select uninstall updates. After updates are uninstalled go back into talkback from application manager, select force stop, then disable.
Right! Never delete a system app until you have disabled it or froze it with TiBU, then tested your phone fir a day or so. You never know how or what those apps are connected to.

True. Thats why I tried to disable it. And google text to speech. And Samsung text to speech. Each one stops it for a while. Then it comes back on even though it shows it is disabled. Its enough to make you start pulling out your hair.
If it says it is off then you are experiencing something else. What speech are you getting?

For me the issue was being caused by that fact that I have NoLED turned on in Accessibility. And it's a known issue with the developer of NoLED because he has a FAQ item about it. The best I've been able to do is get the talkback completely silent by disabling Talkback, Google Text to Speech and Samsung TTS. NoLED still works, and the nagging voice is gone, the only unwanted artifact is the HAND icon of Talkback that continues to show up in the Notification bar even though it's not running. I can live with that way easier than hearing that silly voice telling me everything I was doing.
For what it's worth I think the guides provided concerning rooting and rom upgrades for this phone are not as explicit or clearly written as they could be. Kudos to those who took time to do and provide what's there, and I realize that they've most likely moved on to newer devices, but even though I've rooted most of my devices in the past and am not a complete noob I did not feel comfortable using the provided instructions on this device. I haven't bricked a device yet, and don't want to start with this one.
Well, I'm not running no led. Whenever any of the services I use are active (pebble, or pepple notifier) are activated, talkback is activated. Like you, I have rpoted every device up to this one. Not really scared of bricking it. Just not sure a new rom would help. Contacted samsung, and was told it was a hardware problem. Like I'm an idiot. Obviously its in the software. Just not sure if it is samsung specific. Guess I'll just keep bumbling along with this work around.

FYI. You can get rid of the Talkback icon after each reboot by opening the notification bar, touch and hold Talkback, pick App Info, this will open into Settings App Info (for some reason), pick force stop and then the icon is gone until the next reboot.

Thanks. However, every time I have force stoped it, my touch screen will only work with the stylus. Touch input goes dead. And sometimes the touch alignment goes so that when you touch in one place, it refesters somewhere else. Guess I'll just live with the hand.

This whole Talkback feature appears to be filled with issues. I think I'll live with the hand (and not talk to it, lol), rather than risk more complications and further issue. So far I like Jellybean, but I hope that the next version of Android on Samsung devices fixes these issues.
As an aside, another thing that took me by surprise was the use of a new mountpoint for the external SD card. It took me a bit to figure out why /sdcard/external_sd was empty of files, but Music and other apps were able to see the data I had on the card. It's been awhile since my days as a UNIX SA and it dawned on me, literally in the middle of the night that perhaps the OS was using a different mountpoint. I was very relieved to find it under /storage/extSdCard and that my data was both there and able to be used.

Did you uninstall TalkBack (using something like Titanium BackUp) and not just disable it? If so, when you pick App Info from the Talkback notification does it open up the "Settings Version 4.1.2-I717UCMD3" app? If not It might be that we have different apps installed causing a different app to come up. If this is the case, would you mind trying going into Settings, Application Manager, All, Settings (the one with "Version 4.1.2-I717UCMD3", I have 2 Settings apps) and force stop that and see if that works.
I never uninstalled talkback. Since i haven't bothered rooting. forced stop defiantly gave me headaches, so I settled for stopping the text to speech of google and samsung. Running android 4.1.2. Ive seen on other posts where this is a samsung issue, and hopefully they are working on it. Looks like we have the same versions. Baseband i717ucmd3 with android version 4.1.2 \. Build # JZO54k.i717ucmd3. Force stopping just screws up my touchscreen, so I'll leave it enabled for now. Maybe Samsung will fix it, but I won't be holding my breath....

I too have a Pebble, and have had the issue with talkback showing up on every reboot. I had seen that it was a Samsung issue, so all I do is get rid of it on reboots. Just turn your Pebble Notifier, or I think any other accessibility app, off then back on. This will get rid of the hand, and thus far I have not had it talk to me at all. But I am running Padawan currently, so YMMV. To turn things off and on, just select the talkback notification from the bar to get into accessibility settings.
I ended up rooting for a couple of reasons. I had already frozen Google Text to Speech, Samsung Text to Speech, or whatever it's called, and the Talkback app but still had the hand. After rooting I was able to tap on Talkback in the pull down notification screen and turn off notifications of it. Strange that is was still there, but it worked and the hand hasn't been back.

I want to resurrect this thread. I'm the one who posted the issue in the thread above, but I agree this deserves its own thread.
I've emailed back and forth to Pandora support, and they wash their hands of it, and told me to talk to LG. I'm of the opinion that if there were no native Wear support for Pandora, how does it work in the first place? It displays album art and allows you to pause, play and skip. The Pandora support monkey says they don't support Wear, period.
Sorry for any confusion, but as I mentioned before, we do not support Wear functionality. The card may be appearing due to the way LG identifies music playing on your phone. Since we have not yet created an implementation for Android Wear, there isn't anything we can change to fix this.
Again, I'd recommend reaching out to LG about this issue to see if there is anything they can do about the music card on their end.
Let me know how that conversation goes.

Wear simply pulls the image, text, and buttons from a notification. In the case of media playback, it pulls that functionality from the same place your lockscreen does to display the art and pause/next functionality. Music apps don't need to do anything to work with Wear. I feel like what they're saying is true... Because I've encountered this bug on a few other apps. I think it's a bug in the Wear software itself (or just bad code on the developer's part). I figured it might have something to do with media apps not releasing themselves from the system correctly so Wear doesn't realize the app has stopped and no longer wants to display track info.
You can change watch face or open Amazon prime music and Swype off to get rid of it. prime works as it should.

While it may be a case of evolving functionality, I think it's chickenshark of Pandora to simply dish it off on LG or Google. I would hope that they'd take some ownership in the matter, and contact LG themselves to see what might be done, or offer some workaround. They just told me to go pound sand.

While it may be a case of evolving functionality, I think it's chickenshark of Pandora to simply dish it off on LG or Google. I would hope that they'd take some ownership in the matter, and contact LG themselves to see what might be done, or offer some workaround. They just told me to go pound sand.

Oh, that definitely sounds like Pandora to me. They're incredibly lazy. Look how many years it's taken them just to get playback controls in the ongoing notification.
Found a workaround in the other thread on this topic. If you press Pause on the Wear card, you can then swipe right to dismiss it.

Works for some people, hasn't worked for me.
EDIT: Correction. This now works for me. Weird.
Same with Sticher or TuneIn for me...
I have had this happen for Sticher and TuneIn as well. I placed the watch in "airplane mode" and the notification on the watch immediately went away. Turned off "airplane mode" on the watch and everything was normal.

[MOD][XPOSED][4.4+] Waze mods (e.g. audio emphasis/boost)

Hi,
I would like to present my first Xposed Mod. I'm uploading it in the hope it's useful to someone as well as me
Basically all it does is raise the volume when Waze is talking, and then lower it when it's done. This is really only useful if, like me, you use your phone to also play music at the same time (in my case, I use PowerAmp) where I've found the output of PowerAmp significantly dominates the voice that Waze emits. This is designed to fix that.
Please do let me know if any comments/feedback. The project is also open source: https://github.com/jaysh/xposed-waze
Thanks!
Jay
I yet can play music ( Gmusic or Web radio) using waze.
I use feature named "play on loudspeaker"...
Your module boosts waze volume?

It boosts it compares to other applications that are playing music. It raises the volume to 100% when Waze says something, then lowers it back to normal when it is done.
If you are playing it through loudspeaker I imagine this won't be a problem for you, but when you connect to to your car via a headphone cable then it's a problem for me (I don't know about others).
Does it clarify it?
Is it possible to create a mod where Waze does not automatically close itself when left in the background? I am aware this is intentional by Waze when there is no GPS movement and in the app is left in the background. The problem is, where I live is plagued with standstill traffic jams and I prefer to switch off my screen, allowing the voice guidance to do the work. The next thing I realise, Waze has already turned itself off and I had been driving way off-course without even realizing it.
This has been my number one gripe with Waze - would be absolutely great if you could implement this in your module. No pressure, but just a suggestion
wont install
When downloading in xposed I get an error its not valid, when I download the attachment from here, I get a problem parsing error. What's up?

Can you tell me which version of xposed, and which version of Android/RAM please? And what phone do you have?

I set the minimum target version to 19 (Android 4.4) because that's what I was running at the time. Here's an APK that has it set to 17 (Android 4.2/4.2.2), so it should work on your phone.
Please let me know if it does, and I can provide this for general release.
Thanks!

I tried to reproduce this with no luck unfortunately. I saw there are other complaints of this but some users report that they're not seeing this. Can you give me a little more detail on how you know it's intentional? That could help me undo that logic if I can figure out what it is.
Is there any chance Waze is being killed by Android? Which device do you have?

I'm on an Xperia Z1 - it's rather unlikely that it is killed by Android with the lean amount of background services I had.
But, I think I have the answer. I noticed that I greenified Waze, so I'm likely sure that is the culprit, but I appreciate your time taken into helping me look into it.
It is possible using this below 4.2.2? I have 4.1.2 and using Waze same like you, navi with a music from tune in or Google music.

I don't see why not. Here's an APK, can you let me know if it works fine please?
Thanks,

Hi
I've got this exact same problem with iGo. I use poweramp connected with audio cable in my car.
The navigation instructions are way to weak compared to music.
Do you think your tweak could do the job? Or is it specially made for waze ?
Thanks

I'm afraid it's entirely specific to Waze. Sorry.
@jayshah
Hey man, wanted to inform you this earlier regarding the issue I had with Waze automatically closing - and the real reason was that it wasn't getting a GPS lock. Now it's not the phone but rather that in the city, there are many overhead highways which block the GPS signal, and we do have long traffic jams and intersections under them which naturally would cause Waze to close after a period of time.
If it is possible, could you include an option for Waze to not close itself? The intention here is once that I travel to open skies I can then continue to contributing without needing to check on my phone.
I was wondering if it was possible to add a setting for the volume adjustment. While this app works for me, it makes waze too loud in comparison to the music. Rather than raising volume to max, I'd rather play with it and find an appropriate level.
Great mod. Is there a way to get this to work with Google maps navigation instead of Waze?
I was so excited when I saw this earlier today!
Sadly, I think the real issue is just the volume output of my phone. I already have it set to max to listen in the car, and all this does is drop it down to 15% when the Waze announcement is over. :crying:
I'll definitely keep an eye on your module, though, to see what other goodies you might come up with.
Support on android 5.1?
Hello,
I have a car stereo "Avin Avant-2" which runs on Android 4.1.1.
I use Waze, but the sound is much too low to understand the information.
I discovered your application, but I do not know how it works because I have no icon on the screen.
I installed the version "4.1.2-XposedWaze" because it is the only one that wants to settle on my car radio.
Can you help me use it?
Thank you
