Would you be interested in knowing how to merge an old sms database with a new one?
What happened to me is that I was running 2.1 and wanted to upgrade to FreeX10 beta4 (2.2).
So, I backed everything up with xRecovery and Titanium, then upgraded.
However, before I could restore the texts with Titanium, I received a lot of texts.
Then when I tried restoring the old texts, I lost my most recent texts.
Which led me to figure out if it was possible to merge old texts with new ones.
I've now figured out how to merge the old texts with the new and have them properly dated and in order.
The only thing I'm missing is the attachments. Which is looking impossible right now.
Use SMS restore and backup it will merge the two automatically without losing any messages. What i mean by merging is first restoring the new backup using titanium and then making a backup using SMS restore and backup in Archive mode, do the same for the old backup too. And you will have a single file containing all the backup
i have personally tried it.

i want to restore my sms from gmail with one by one option is there any way to do it pls......i know there is backup to gmail application but it restores the whole messages....i want to restore just a couple of them....is there a solution.....??? thank you in advance....
Hello this seems to be such a great feature if it could be implemented.
I know how to backup sms'es and restore them. There are many programs which does this and now also titanium can do it (nice!)
However it would be perfect if a app was able to backup all sms'es in threads older than fx 500, and then delete from phone to clear up some space.
In that way you always have one big XML file with all backupped sms (should be no problem to open in a computer, even with many thousands messages), and these messages would also all be deleted from the phone and no duplicates in phone and backup would appear.
Thanks!

So, I often change from one phone to another and my SMS history is very important. So far I need to backup and restore 16k messages. I've tried sms backup & restore but it takes long to restore the sms and for the phone to read all the sms again once I open the messaging app.
So, anyone know faster method to backup and restore SMS?
ps : I'm using nexus 5

You can try Titanium Backup (only the paid version has sms backup). But if you have a lot of messages, it'll take a long time to restore, no matter what app you use (i think).

PS: You neet root to use TB.
16K? Jeebus... That's a sure way to make almost any phone start to get laggy. Why not save them to the cloud and only restore the last few months or so with SMS Backup and Restore? But yea, there is not gonna be a quick way to restore that many, no matter what method you use.
I was on a build of CM12, but it started bugging out on me and then when I tried restarting my phone it was stuck on a boot loop, so I created a nandroid, then resorted an old back up. Does anyone know where the text messages are stored? I have important messages that I need to restore and make sure I don't lose.
Are the directories for text messages on stock different than cm12?
I'm afraid I can't answer your question, but the only way I've been able to restore text messages is to have backed them up with Titanium first. Titanium does have the option to extract data and restore from a nandroid, but I've never tried to restore SMS that way.
Perhaps this app could be of use: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...mNvbS5yaXRlc2hzYWh1LlNNU0JhY2t1cFJlc3RvcmUiXQ..
