HELP ME
Youre on me7 trying to flash the mdk firmware. Once on me7 you cant revert back to mdk. You cant install custom roms on me7 or custom recovery. Im guessing you flashed a custom recovery and when you tried to boot into recovery it put you in download mode correct?

This is what I did...Battery pull...when you put the battery back in hold the down volume, power and home buttons. as soon as the phone vibrates release the power button and keep holding the other 2. when the prompt comes up"do you really want to do this" or something like that, click no. should boot up normally then.

That will work but youll have to do it everytime you boot. Flash the me7 image through odin and youll be good to go after that.

I read that too but I'm not having to do it.
I just tried that but when it reboots it goes to a screen that says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."

My bad I mis spoke. Everytime you try to get into recovery itll do that. Reflashing me7 is still suggested so you will atleast have a stock recovery. I also suggest checking out the me7 safestrap thread because when its released youll be able to use custom TW roms then.

Flash the stock me7 image through odin. If you have data/apps you dont want removed use the no wipe images.

Like addiso said no romming for the moment. I would look into xposed ( google xposed framework) and the wanam module from the play store. I actually went from custom roms back to a stock deodexed me7 rom using the aforementioned and i love it. Youll atleast be able to make some mods to your phone that way.

My verizon note 2 is stuck in the boot screen that shows SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE II. It just keeps FLASHING every 2-3 seconds.
Odin keeps failing, Ive already done the root yesterday and installed a rom and than i got a samsung update and it downloaded and went into installing it which all went well. But when it restarted I got stuck as mentioned above.
Please advice me on what to do. I'm not new to odin and I have flashed the gn2 yesterday to original formware but today it just fails????
Please help with ideas. THANKS
How about a batttery pull. Then hold power home and up key and see if u have custom recovery and if so then do a restore of your back up. Or just flash another rom.

As i do that the logo keeps flashing every 2-3 seconds and nothing ever happens.
I this because of the logo words are flashing nothing works when I try to do the normal/usual restore tricks.
If the logo words would stay still/freeze in place I would be golden. But as they just keep flashing I cant do nothing.
This is one serious problem Im thinking. Anyone that gets me out of this is a GENIUS, PURE GENIUS!!

Can you boot into download mode (power, home, vol. down), then flash a new rom through your computer? I'd start with rom, then if that doesn't work try flash a new recovery.

Download a custom recovery zip from TWRP, If you used odin, just boot into download, and flash through odin.
Edit: I didn't realize odin was failing. Scratch that.
Three things we need more info about how Odin is failing, but I have a guess it says sboot then fails. So in that case go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35265728
Get the alternate restore and use that in Odin. Or you could try the pit file, some day that fixes them up. Second had you read at all or looked in the stickies you would have got that answer in 10 seconds. Third, and finally never post in development until you develop something. Especially when you're getting help here, that's spam and can get you banned, plus normally I and others will not help you for that.

I'm interested in rooting my new Galaxy S4 but I also would like the original stock rom in case if I ever need to go back to it. Would anyone by any chance have the original stock ROM?
Model: SCH-I545
Android Version: 4.2.2
*If any other details are needed, let me know.
This is a Verizon phone fyi.
Also, could someone please link me to a tutorial/guide for rooting the S4 and some other links that have ROMs that are a "must-get".
Thanks,
Hydra
Read the development forums. The stock image is ready enough to find, as are step by step root instructions. As to your last question, that is the type of thing that gets a thread locked. Read the dev forums, pick a few roms that pique your interest, and give them a test drive.

I'm new here so tried my best to find the correct section, and did search for guides.
I'm currently using this guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798 , but upon flashing the prerelease kernal, it failed.

Also, in case of anything, how can I leave ODIN mode on the phone? Do I just power it off and reboot?
CM10.1 has been treating me pretty well. Haven't had any crashes or anything and runs fast and stable.
The only issue I noticed is you can't get a GPS lock while Network & Wireless location is on. Once you disable it GPS locks right in.

The tar file is 1.8 Gbs, is this the only method? I have horrible download speed and going to take 3 hours to download it.
Btw, can someone educate me on what just happened? Did I brick my phone? Will I lose any data?

Nope, I'm working on trying Samsung Kies, maybe that will do it but I tried to get into recovery mode thru the phone but takes me to that same window.

Did you try just flashing the stock kernel back using Odin? Everything you've done is listed in this thread, right? Technically if you tried to flash the pre release kernel and it failed nothing should have happened.

Is what I get upon flashing kernel to the stock kernel. I am downloading the stock ROM as I type this. 1 Hour left to download it. Btw, does it matter what type of ROM I download?
Is there a difference from, http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p...Galaxy S4 (Verizon) (SCH-I545)/Stock ROMs/TAR and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259 ?
I'm guessing it's the No Wipe feature?
And what's the worst case scenario with rooting the phone? Anything permanent? If this stock ROM fixes the current problem, then I'll attempt to root once more.

Are you using the factory charging cable to connect to the computer? I don't know why everything keeps failing.... Odin has never failed for me. Do you have another computer you can try this on? Stock charging cable, different usb port or another computer are the things I would try next. I don't know anything about pit files.

Tried two types of cables, a generic one and factory/original one. I tried two different computers with 2 different OS. Tried 3 different ports per computer.
Don't know what else I can do.
Since you're able to boot into Odin mode I think this can be fixed but it may require a pit file. Since I know nothing about pit files or why Odin kept failing for you I'm going to let someone else try and help you. I do not think your phone is beyond hope at this point. Good luck.... Does anyone know if Verizon will replace it if it isn't my fault? There is no proof of rooting just a messed up system.
Ok, So I was attempting to root a friends galaxy S4, and all was going well. But after a successful root, an install of Team win recovery through goomanager, and a reboot, I got a "failed normal boot" error or something similar that was displayed in download mode. The Phone would not go past download mode, so I removed the battery, and launched it into odin mode, to be greeted with what appeared normal to me...
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SCH-1545
System Status: Official
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30

After putting it into odin, and attempting to flash the stock rom for it, ODIN (my desktop client, not the phone) gave me this error...

Now I'm thinking the issue was caused by the fact odin is in write protect mode, and I'm thinking that this has been caused by me possibly forgetting to enable usb debugging. Whenever I try to boot the phone, it locks up and says that "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mdoe in Kies & try again". I can't get it to boot the OS, or recovery, and I need to know if there is any way to fix this, and also if my friend may still be able to get if fixed for free, and if not, how much it may cost for me to pay. Any assistance that can be provided would be amazing, and I would be happy to provide any more needed info.
To sum up, I need to get odin to allow me to flash the stock firmware, even with write protection enabled. Is there any way to accomplish this?
Or if not, is there a way to manually repair it without flashing? Any means is justifiable now, I don't care how, or how long the process is, I just want to not betray the trust of my friend.
I wish I hadn't done this, and I feel incredibly guilty, even though I only meant well. I'm awfully tight on cash right now, and It would be great if this could be resolved without me having to pay for the repair, but I will if I must. I'll purchase whoever can assist me something on steam or whatever, if that helps. I Just desperately need help.
Thanks,
Chad.
you installed a custom recovery on me7 which you cant, that is why it softbricked. Then you tried flashing the mdk image thru odin, which you also cant do because me7 blocked the loki exploit and blocked installation of prior firmwares. You should be able to get the phone running again by flashing the me7 image via odin.

rootdelavegajfltevzw
exact file in the zip is VRUDMI1_Root_de_la_vega_jfltevzw.tar.md5
You can see it in the log.
You know, it's my wife's phone. I was going to root it last night but waited. Maybe it updated from MI1 and I didn't check again. God I hope not. If that's the case, should it be fixable when the next root comes out??? Or could it be fixable now???

Go ahead and try the no wipe factory mi1 from the thread I posted.
If it fails you might have had a phone on mj7.
There is no data wipe for that as well. just a different thread in Android dev.
Is the phone soft bricked?

I would download mj7 tar and flash in odin. Then just wait for a root method. It'll happen soon.

There is a root method already out there, but some people suspect it has embedded malware, but it's not confirmed. A lot of people have used it without issue.

Yeah I've actually done it and it worked but kinda freaks me out a bit. Hopefully one of the devs around here can do it so it's trustworthy.

I don't trust it either. There are already devs working on pulling it apart to get to the bottom of it, so I'm sure we'll get an answer soon on the matter.

this is why you always check BEFORE attempting root, no matter what even if someone tells me they didn't update their phone or their phone is running blah blah, i always double check because you can never be too safe

Is this a method separate from the one allowing you to maintain root through the MJ7 update? Is it allowing people to root after taking the update without root?
I tried to upgrade to KitKat using this method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2726868). Initially I flashed the AP and CP files as instructed. No errors and the hone rebooted. It was stuck on the boot animation for about 15 mins and the phone was starting to warm up so I powered it down and tried again. Still no luck. In the thread, it mentioned that if boot was unsuccessful, try flashing the CSC file. I tried that and it failed. I can no longer acess anything other than download mode, and trying to reflash just AP and CP no longer work either.
I did get a message about the PIT partition being unavailable. What potential next steps do I have from here?

Thanks for the reply. I was finally able to get it back to being "stable". I managed to flash the AP, CP and CSC files individually and all went successful. It still hangs at the boot screen, but it's a step forward.
I went directly from MK2 (I think) to NC5 via the link above. I didn't need to go to NC2 first did I?

Now I don't remember what I was on. I know I was using Hyperdrive 16. Either way, seems I can't get passed the boot animation for the stock rom. Is there something I can flash back to?
Is it your intention to be able to upgrade and downgrade again or are you wanting to stay at NC5? Root is easy for NC5 and you don't even need a computer. I would still consider doing a full wipe and starting over. Make sure you use the original data cable that came with the phone. The cable and the usb port chosen is often the cause of failures in flashing via oden.
You might be stuck at NC5 now regardless but in case the upgrade didn't take you could start with the MK2 wipe and if that fails, go with the NC5 wipe.

What does it say on odin when u flash the tar file (like <id:0/003> recovery.img
<id:0/003> hidden.img)
It should say stuff like that in an area that says message in the bottom left corner of odin. It would be nice if u could copy and paste the message lines that showed up during the flash unless you already closed odin. Unless u flashed the full wipe tar try recovery booting and wiping cache and factory resetting

My intent is to stay on NC5. I am not looking to go back unless I can't get NC5 to work.
Is this the full wipe file I need to flash using Odin? VRUFNC5 Full-Wipe SCH-I545_VZW_1_20140330160240_8il17ls9o2_fac.zip
Do I flash it using the AP slot? Does CP or CSC matter?

The file you sre looking for will end in md5.tar. use the link that was provided to you by unlinkedenergy. There will be a rar file ( same as a zip file) that you will have to unzip. You will put it in the ap slot. Yhe post you used for upgrading was actually a post for upgrading with the ablility to downgrade again. This is trickier than just upgrading.

Like Tulsadiver said, the upgrade might of not fully flashed. Flashing the mk2 tar if you are on nc5 will possibly fail in odin. It is probably ok to try it though. You can root nc5 with towelroot, an apk that roots your phone in one click

Well, that fixed it luckily. So now that I have KitKat on here, I am going to be putting another rom on slot 1 of Safestrap so I don't even worry about configuring the stock. Am I going to be able to get away with flashing Hyperdrive on slot 1 along with the SuperSu patch to keep root, or must I do something on the stock rom to obtain it?
Sorry, I missed your comment about towelroot earlier. I got that on the stock rom, rooted, activated Safestrap and hopefully will be on my other rom soon. Thank you both for the help!

I think that the root will be kept when you flash onto a rom slot (well at least for me root was kept last time I flashed on a rom slot). If you are running safestrap 3.72 (as opposed to safestrap 3.71) rom slots don't work but you can flash kitkat roms on 3.72

Glad you are up and running. Definitely have to use 3.72 and stock slot. Make a backup of your stock rom right off the bat.
If we were any help, don't forget to hit the thanks button!
