I'm currently using a carrier unlocked Verizon S4 with my AT&T sim. It was working fine, I was getting HSPA+. I decided to factory reset it today to clear up all the junk and now the data doesn't work. I get service and I can make calls, just no mobile data. I used the same APN settings I had before the restore. Tried turning mobile data on/off as well. Not sure what could be wrong. Any help appreciated.

One time with my gs4 I could not get data to work at all. for some reason I could send a picture and it would an show 4G to send the pic then not work at all after that. Could you have possibly have a sim card go bad?

I put the sim back into my GNex and it works fine.
There is another issue. Before factory resetting the phone, the time on the status bar wouldn't update. Only the clock/weather widget updated. So, mobile data worked before the reset, but the clock didn't. After the reset, clock works but no mobile data. There has to be a connection.

Is this on stock or a custom rom? Did you mod anything?

Stock rom. The only thing I did was a custom recovery (TWRP) and rooted using this method.
Update: I restored it to when data was working and now the clock syncs up fine. Just need to figure out why the mobile data doesn't work when I factory reset.

My friend has an HTC Droid Eris and it was running slow so she did a factory reset through the settings menu and after that she said her phone ran a lot smoother and faster but there's one problem. Her internet is not working and her multimedia messaging isn't working. what should she do to get this fixed? She is on stock 2.1 and her phone is not rooted. Thanks in advance for the help!

If your friend performed a factory reset using the stock 2.1 software then the activation status of the phone was also cleared, and the phone needs to be reactivated.
Dial *228 and select option 1 when prompted.
Well her texts and calls and everything is working. Just not the mms and internet

Text and calls => 1x/RTT
MMS and Internet => Mobile Network
Perhaps she inadvertently toggled off the Mobile network? ( The stock ROMs have a toggle for it not only using either the HTC widget and the Android "Power Controls" widget, but also at the long-press of the End/Power button. )

I'm going to her house in a little bit so I will try both solutions

I tried both solutions, neither of them worked. Should I just root her phone and put a custom rom on it?

I'm guessing some of the data settings somehow got wiped out.
It may be a good idea to call up verizon and get someone in tech support or take the phone to a store. (Not that I don't want to help, there could be a number of problems going on here.)
If data will not work on stock then it will not work for a custom rom.

+1
You could try re-performing the F/R on the off chance something strange happened - and if the mobile network does not come up, call Verizon repair. I would pursue that course of action before I started rooting a phone that seemed to not be working with stock software.

My buddy cannot surf the internet with his phone..but wifi works...whenever he is off wifi..his phone shows he is connected to 3g fine but he cannot surf..he gets "insufficient network connection error"...he tried to disable data and renenable it but doesn't work..tried rebooting ..nothing....he has a stock phone..no root or any custom roms installed...any advice?

Well it connects, try a reset or even flashing a stock rom again, (4.1.1 from http://www.sammobile.com/)
and it doesn't hurt to check IMEI.

Well connection seems fine, might be a good time to call the carrier and see if they disabled data or something.
Have you tried another SIM that is known to have data?
Calls work, SMS works, but no dice on browser unless using WiFi.
nothing listed under available networks other than Default setup which looks grey
Make sure mobile data is checked.

I verified that mobile data is checked - tried turning airplane mode on and off, rebooted several times.
do you have a list of what the proper apn settings are?

I would suggest trying a factory reset. Just make sure that you save any data that you want to keep, like messages, contacts and stuff like that before you try to reset.
Also found this video that might help. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNnJnjabXdU

To everyone who uses Safestrap, how did you get 4G LTE working?
I downloaded the ME7-modules that allows you to use Wi-Fi, but for some reason I'm only getting 3G.
Any help is appreciated.
Works fine on mine. Maybe try wiping everything again like 3 times, install rom, install modules, then wipe cache and dalvik again, then fixing permissions. Give that a shot.
Hey by the way, does your home button work with these new roms?

Tried that, didn't work unfortunately.
And which ROM? I've flashed two and the 4G has not worked in either, but the home button worked in both.

This is a ROM specific feature. I found a toggle that allows me to wake the device in the ROM settings. Check there.
Also, my issue was resolved by enabling LTE in the network settings.
Is there any way we can get the blacked out dialer/contact like in the international forum?

I have tried to get this to work but can't. It will flash fine and the theme will stick but as soon as I make a call a message pops up saying "call not sent" and it will exit out of the phone application. Did you do anything special to get it to work?

Still no luck. Tried it after a fresh install as well and I still end up in the same situation. Tried it on odex and Deodexed with same results.
Idk but mine works
See
Same here I tried it numerous ways and get the same error when trying to dial out. Weird.....

That could be it. I never used flash tool. However I did find that the at&t port of this works just fine on sprint, using it now.

At&t port does not have that problem either - for me anyway. So far everything works. I am deodexed on Sprint - just flashed it in twrp, wiped dalvik and cache afterwards.

Does this work with the G3 tweaks box themes?
AT&T version seemed to work. #1 is still mis aligned if you pull up dialer while on a call. Haven't tested how it works if I receive a call ( which was my issue before ). After I rebooted, turned tweakbox themes back on and it's cool so far.

Wiping dalvik and cache didn't stop It from fc'ing when opening settings.

I dont know why, I don't have that issue at all. On the international one I had the call not sent if I tried to make a call. At&t didnt have that issue for me and same with settings. I've had no fcing since flashing this one. Tested every option. Im also using tweaksbox but not system themes, I've been using holo themer for system settings and such. Only problem I had was black text in certain respects(like when trying to attach a picture in hangout, I couldn't see the text). I have since opened up the zip and deleted settings.apk, framework-res.apk and lge-res.apk and reflashed. I just wanted the phone and contacts blacked out - holo themer worked on contacts but the phone only had a black tab at the top, the background was still white with holo. On my dialer the 1 is not misaligned even in a call, so I really have no idea on that one either. Weird stuff, but that's the nature of LG. The Lgog was the same way, same model phone but different people had very different reactions to the same things.
Let's just say gremlins are responsible, lol.
