Hi
Sorry my first post is a cry for help.
So I'm trying to install CyanogenMod Android for Samsung Galaxy S II ("i9100") using the following guide http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_i9100. But each time I put the phone into recovery mode I get the following:
Odin Mode
Product Name: GT-i9100
Custom Binary Download: Yes (2 counts)
Currently Binary: Samsung Official
So I'm unable to install ClockworkMod
My Kernel Version is 3.0.31 - 1069234 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Tue Mar 19 19:18:54 KST 2013
I've previously rooted by using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125282 and its worked fine I was even able to install another ROM something a little closer to the Stock.
Odin is able to see my phone when its in normal mode but unable to see it in recovery mode.
So currently I'm extremely stuck and have exhausted all my googling skills.
To get to recovery its holed vol up home button and then power holed all three till it boots to recovery. Download mode it vol down home and power. Odin doesn't see recovery

Andrew is correct, you're in download when you think you're in recovery. It says Odin mode... That's download.
As already stated, use the volume up key, not down to get recovery mode.

I can see him starting a new thread soon. Its gonna be either "help iv bricked my phone" or "help I cant make calls" op you really need to read more. Lots and lots of reading.

Hi
Thank you for the replies already, I can get my phone into recovery mode but Odin and heimdall are unable to see the phone (tried this on multiple computers). I can also get my phone into download mode (Vol up + home + power) but each time I try to install the ROM it fails, but this is not using Clockwork to install. I've tried to get it into fastboot (vol up + vol down + power) but the phone just boots up, I was hoping I could revert my recovery mode.
So currently the phone is stuck with this ROM unable to flash Clockwork and unable to install CM.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Edit: It appears in my haze of typing this last night I got mixed up between recovery and download. So Odin and heimdall are unable to see the phone in download mode (I press vol down + home + power)
Look at @Hopper8 topics and read trouble shooting with odin. Btw what firmware/rom are you on. So you dont have stock or custom recovery? What method did you use to root?

Hi
I'm on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and the Rom is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100 Stock Official Firmwares. Build Number: JZ054K.I9100XWLSN.
I will try @Hopper8 guide:
If Odin won't recognise the phone ...if it does, continue to 'Preliminary Steps'
Firstly, keep trying. Many users will find that Odin will recognise the phone in download mode eventually, but this will take perseverance. Note that if you do get Odin to recognise your phone in download mode, attempt to flash a stock ROM then. Don't unplug it thinking 'you'll try again later'.
Things to try if the phone isn't recognised by Odin:
Open Odin without the phone plugged in. Enter Download mode without the phone plugged in. Now, plug the phone in and wait a few seconds.
Didn't work? Try again in a different USB port. Still didn't work? Try all the USB ports, and then a different computer. If that doesn't work:
Uninstall the USB drivers using Revo Uninstaller. This program can remove the registry edits from the drivers, giving you a completely clean install of the drivers. Reinstall the USB drivers: Samsung USB drivers. If you are using Windows 8, I strongly recommend you try Windows 7/XP. These drivers don’t usually work with Windows 8. (See here if you’re on Windows 8.) Otherwise, use the linked file to the Samsung USB drivers.
If you're still not having any luck, then follow these steps: (Credits to 4-2ndtwin)
1. Turn off both the computer and phone. Fully shut down.
2. Disconnect phone from computer: the USB cable from both the computer and phone.
3. Boot up the computer. Log in and let it settle.
4. Start up Odin and let it settle.
5. Put phone in download mode.
6. Connect phone to a USB port.
If that doesn't work, keep repeating those steps, with different USB ports on your PC/laptop. Change the USB cable you're using, multiple times (preferably use the cable that came with the phone). If all that doesn't work, start again at 'If Odin won't recognise the phone' on a different computer. Keep persevering

And get back to you. Thank you for the information.
Make sure usb debugging in on in phone settings. When you have it working with odin flash philz tar not zip kernel as that will give you root and custom cwm recovery.

Well I feel a little silly right now,
I did original find @Hopper8 guide and tried different USB's till 1am but nothing worked. Just tried again and hey presto it work and CyanogenMod is now installed along with Clockwork.
Once again thank you for the info and for taking pity on this noob, I will endeavor to learn more and try to help out on the forums when I can.
Thank you
Them late nights can make you miss the simple things. No pity mate. Just happy you're sorted.

Sorry for being late to the party. OP, glad you got it sorted and I hope my guide was of some use
Great work as always andrew :good:

Ok heres the deal, I tried a bunch of custom roms eventually leading to hybridv3 then I tried flashing with the Stock vibrant rom and that didnt work so I went to Vibrant4, then stupidly renamed the Stock vibrant rom to update.zip and used android recovery to update packages. Now my phone goes through the boot up but I just get a black screen. Is there any hope for me?
Your Fired! Lol..jk
I would use odin to reload the stock firmware.
I can't seem to get my Vibrant to show up on a com port, I have the pit and the tar files but my vibrant wont show up in odin.

I did something similar a while back. You may need to flask the stock rom via odin. The link to the thread for it is in the bible sticky in this section. Set up odin before you connect the phone to the computer. Also if you use windows vista or 7 you need to open odin by right clicking and run as administrator. For it to work you need to get the phone to download mode. Pull the battery, put it back in. dont touch the power button. Hold the up and down volume buttons and plug the usb into the phone when the other end is already plugged into the computer. It should be in dl mode. Good luck

trying now...
Odin is doing it's thing right now, Thank you so much!!
Just to recap since the correct information has never been added to an OP:
You must install ODIN and the correct USB drivers from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7657252#post7657252 .
Get the phone into download mode. Several different instructions have been posted meaning either different versions of the same phone get into DLM different ways or everyone else is posting the wrong instructions.
What works on mine: Have phone off, ODIN open, and correct USB drivers already installed. HOLD vol up+vol down and plug in the USB, and do not touch the power button.
I tried rooting the phone by flashing an insecure kernel. Now I can't get the phone into download mode. Odin/Kies recognizes the phone in MTP, and windows recognized the phone under debugging/file transfer mode... but Odin won't see the phone under debug. Also, my home key now operates as the back key with no key working as home. I flashed the XWKDD insecure kernel as directed by one of the walk throughs.
Before I flashed anything I couldn't get the phone into download mode using the three button combo, but I was able to do it simply by having the phone in download mode and plugging in the USB cable.
How should I proceed? I assume I need to flash to stock and try again with another kernel, but I can't find that as an option. Is there another way to go into download mode? Please help. I still have the same captivate that I bought on release date and I would love to have a fully functional phone for the first time in over a year!
Thanks in advance!

Download mode, this has ALWAYS worked for me:
Pull battery
Reinsert battery
DO NOT HIT POWER
Hold VolUp + VolDn
Insert USB cable into phone
Phone should power up right into download mode.
Edit: Stock kernel was posted 5-10 minutes ago in dev section BTW.
Thanks! Now I'm able to get into download mode consistently... but I'm getting an error in Odin... "Can't open the serial(COM) port.". Going to try resetting the computer and phone. Unfortunately I'm just enough of a noob at this to know how to get myself into interesting predicaments haha. I had all kinds of fun playing with issues with Cognition before I finally switched over to cm7.
*edit*
I'm back to stock now, thanks again! I don't know why I didn't think to do that, that's how I used to get into download mode on my cappy. Now if only I could get the drivers to work with my phone in debugging mode...
I usually work with iPhones so Android phones are a new field for me...
I have a friend who rooted his Samsung Galaxy Ace and then installed Android 2.3.4 but he decided to install something as he says that "doubles the ram memory of the device" well as soon as he installed this the phone immediatelly got bricked.
I have it here in my hands and I tried entering RECOVERY, DOWNLOAD mode and it was impossible.
So I tried pressing all the button (Vol+,Vol-, Home and Power) and the device was USB recognized by my PC,installed its own drivers but nothing showed up on the screen. Then I pressed Home and Power and USB sound ran again and from there on the phone does not react to any combination of buttons, taking out the battery or anything and the PC does not see it anymore.
I tried to be as specific as possible cause I really want to help this guy... So If anyone knows what are the possible solutions besides "take it to samsung care center" I'd really appreciate it!
Thansk!
Install KIES from Samsung so you have the drivers for the phone.
Install ODIN and run on your pc so you can flash a stock ROM (you don't need to have KIES running at the same time)
Take the battery out of the phone and connect it to the pc with ODIN running via USB.
If ODIN detects the phone put the battery back in and now you can flash with a stock rom and your phone will now work.
There are instructions on this forum where to find ODIN and how to load a ROM into it ready to flash.

I'd save that for plan B, If it's showing up on a PC it's not bricked.
Bricked = no power, no response, no detect by pc no nothing.

But Can I download any ODIN? Because I've seen through the forum that there are several ODINs for different Samsung Models... besides there are several ODIN versions! So which one do I need to download? Please a little help here cause in the Android field I'm still a noob!
Also as I told you, the first time the PC recognized the phone when I pressed ALL the buttons... but afterwards it does not recognize it anymore... does it have to do anything with that KIES you are just telling me about? Also which KIES should I download?
Thansk!
To me it doesnt wounds like its "Totally Bricked", take the battery out and leave if there for awhile, come back later on and see if you can enter download mode.
If you want you drivers to be installed correctly, download the KIES (2.1 i guess?) and get ODIN to reflash it.

Ok... this is as far as I have come.... The guide for unbricking seems good, there is only one problem. I've already Loaded ODIN with the firmware files and boot, and all those files. But I can NOT, I repeat I can NOT enter DOWNLOAD MODE (Vol-,Home, Power Buttons). I can only enter EMERGENCY DOWNLOAD MODE (Vol+,Vol-, Home and Power Buttons) and the good news is that ODIN is ABLE to recognize it, BUT as soon as I hit star it stays stuck at "<1> setup connection..." Well before you start saying to search forum for solutions, well I did, and I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188378
The guy had this same problem and he realized his problem was that he was entering EMERGENCY DOWNLOAD MODE rather than DOWNLOAD MODE. BUT I can NOT enter DOWNLOAD MODE the phone just doesn't enter this mode, only the EMERGENCY DOWNLOAD MODE so what can I do to make ODIN flash my phone!!????? Please help!!

And Guess What! IT DID NOT WORK!!!
This was my last resort and now I don't know what to do! But pay attention the funny thing, AS I mentioned earlier in ALL my posts! Is that the phone is recognized by ODIN but only in EMERGENCY DOWNLOAD MODE (It even says "COM PORT 18") But in this mode ODIN doesn't flash it, I needed DOWNLOAD MODE which was the reason why I bought the USB JIG, but it is not working! Is there a some kind of workaround to get the JIG working? PLEASE I REALLY REALLY need help!!!
Thanks!

Hello guys. First of all, my native language isn't English, so sorry for something wrong. I'm from the GT-i5500 area, and I have CM10.1 on it. I have a friend wich has a YP-G70, and he loved Jelly Bean. We tryed to flash CWM, to install CM10 on it, but on the installation, Odin said FAIL and it is stuck at a screen. Every time my friend tries do shutdown it, it reboots into the same screen. What can we do? The screen looks like a phone and a computer, and a triangle on the middle.
Thanks anyway.
Its forcable download mode because u did not flash good..probably flashed wrong file..what file did you flash and from what section in Odin.
I had the same experience. I tried to get it off but it can't. I unplugged it off the USB cable and plugged it again, then reflashed. It worked for me.

Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 YP-G70 (with phisycal home button) bricked.
I accidentally flashed the rom to SGS-I9000B to the SGP 5.0 so it got bricked.
It's status is: doesn't turn on, doesn't enter in dowload mode (Volume down + Home + Power), doesn't show charging icon.
After weeks of exaustive researche, the only way I was able to enter in download mode was using the Adam's Outler procedure: Instaling Linux, Java, Oracle Virtual Box a version of Windows under VBOX, to run Samsung drivers and Odin after using Unbrickable Resurrector R40.
Well, using this procedure SGP 5.0 enters in downloading mode and when I use the PIT file and BootloadersOnly provided by Adam the result in Odin is PASS! Despite that SGP doesn't reboot and keeps the same way: doesn't turn on, doesn't enter in dowload mode (Volume down + Home + Power), doesn't show charging icon.
So I enter in download mode using Unbrickable Resurrector R40 again and try to flash several SGP 5.0 YP-G70 Intl ROMs: Stock Froyo, Stock Ginger Bread and some Customs ROMs most of them PASS in the Odin result BUT SGP 5.0 never reboots or turn on after the procedure.
I have a doubt of marking or not Re-partition in Odin, but the procedure just works if I mark it.
I feel I was close to resurrect it and make it work again but all I've got is frustration.
I'm not an expert as the major of you so I beg some enlightned soul show me the way to make it works: step by step and share with me the right files I have to use to make it works.
I also have installed Heimdall but I was not able to find the appropriate files to use it and SGP 5.0 can not have the batery removed. Someone wrote Adam has developed a tool for SGP full recovery but I didnt find it.
Please, folks, help me and I will share the solution with other people in the same situation.
Thanks and best regards.

Can you put the phone into download mode? I would assume the answer is yes if you still get the "connect to kies" message. Following are detailed instructions for getting into download mode.
Download Mode:
There are several ways to put the phone into download mode. You should try all of them that you can before you give up.
Recovery mode:
With the phone off (and not connected to the computer), and battery installed, hold all three buttons, vol- vol+ pwr continuously until the initial boot screen appears the second time.
Download mode:
1. With the phone off and connected to the computer via USB cable, and battery installed, hold all three buttons, vol- vol+ pwr.
2. With the phone off and battery installed, hold vol- and vol+ (but not pwr) while plugging in the USB cable.
3. With the phone off and battery installed, hold vol- (but not vol+ or pwr) while plugging in the USB cable.
4. Attempt each of the above three options with the battery removed from the phone. The computer will supply the power to the phone.
5. Use Android Debug Bridge (adb) which will only work if USB debugging has been already turned on in Developer Options, since you can't boot into the system to turn it on. With the battery installed and the phone connected to the pc via USB cable, use the command "adb reboot download".
6. Use a USB jig. With the battery installed insert the USB jig into the USB connector of the phone. Some have reported that this method works when no other method would work.
If the phone will go into download mode, you will need to use Odin desktop to flash the stock firmware. You should use the latest stock firmware. Go to the Download Repository and download Odin3 v1.85 from the link near the top of the page, and also download the latest stock firmware, "I777UCMD8 Stock Binaries (Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean)" from near the bottom of the page. It's the next to last item. Download both to your Windows pc, and then follow the detailed instructions below to flash it onto your phone.
How to use stand-alone Odin3 to flash firmware:
Follow and recheck each of the following steps. Do them in order listed, as some steps are dependent on previous steps. Instructions are for Odin3 v1.85. It should work with any version of Odin, but some details, like color of items, may be different.
1.) Open Odin on the Windows Desktop.
2.) Have the USB cable plugged into USB port on the computer, but *Not* plugged in to the phone.
3.) Shut the phone off.
4.) While holding down the vol+ & vol- keys, plug micro-usb plug into phone.
5.) In Odin, you should get the yellow box under where it says ID:COM with the text 0:[COMx], and in the Message area, <ID:0/00x> Added!! where x is some number, usually 1-8.
6.) In Odin, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked and all other items are not checked.
7.) Click on the PDA button. Browse to the tar file you want to install and select it so its path appears in the text edit box next to the button.
8.) Make sure the check box next to the PDA button is checked.
9.) Click the Start button.
10.) You should see the green progress bar advancing.
11.) When complete, you will get a PASS (or FAIL if unsuccessful).
The phone should boot up normally. If it does not, enter recovery (see instructions in the download mode section) and perform a wipe data/factory reset.
