Warm white screen? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hi guys, are the screen of your Xzu warm white? Because when I compare my Xzu to my other phone it looks warm white.
Just want to know if this is a problem.

What model is the other phone you're comparing with?
Sent from my linux phone using Tapatalk 2

Kata i1 it's a Chinese phone, and the gs3. Actually the gs3 looks greenish.

This is a known "problem", most likely because different display panel manufacturers used by sony give different white balance setting.
Here in indonesia we can confirm that different unit of zu can have different display's default temperature - not just comparing it with other brands. Range from very white (in other thread here in xda someone said her display is almost bluish), warm, to very noticable yellowish type. I heard that Z has the same problem, which is solved after sony release firmware with white balance setting.
I can say that my zu is very white, and probably tilted to a little bit warmish (Because I'm certain it's not bluish) especially with auto-brightness on. And I like it.
If your display is distractingly warm, or even distinctively yellowish, claim warranty. Find a friend who own another zu w/ comparably normal display to show that your is a defect. Or if there's a display unit available maybe you can use it as comparation.
Anyway, good luck.

White SGS2 == Darker screen?

Anyone with a white SGS2 notice that the screen is alot dimmer than the black one? Recently, I bought a white SGS2 for my wife and I realized that on auto-brightness, the screen is so dim that it is almost not readable (much like what the black one showed when the battery hits 5%).
While researching this, I found this post. Hence now I am not sure if it is normal or should I bring my white SGS2 back.
http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...brightness-sg2-white-v-black.html#post3354700
Anyone with the white SGS2 can share your experiences? Thanks.
I've noticed that my black GS2 has the same issue, but only with custom roms like CM7 or Galnet MIUI. The official roms seem to be ok with the auto brightness setting and function according to standards.
Where is it made in? I bought my one in vietnam ( made in vietnam) and it is very dark on auto brightness compared to others, mine is black. So it is not a matter of colors, it is because of bad batches i guess.

I have a white one and in a normally lit room it isn't dark. It only gets dark in a room with no light. Pretty normal performance for me. I previously had a black one.
I noticed though that black context menus come out as a light grey.

Could also be lateral inhibition.

It's not just the white ones. I just posted a similar issue - got my display replaced by Samsung service and now the new one is dim like yours. Did some comparison with several other units and it seem there is a lot of variations between different units.

Oh no, does it mean there is no point bringing it back? They may just replace with another dim screen. For the time being, I have hacked into framework-res.apk to crank up the brightness level. It will suffice for now. But you are right, the "defective" screen has a very cool and blueish tone.

Screen tint fluctuation issues?

I got my GS3 A few days ago and i noticed the screen look awfully warm, so i thought it was just samsung color calibration. But when i tilt the phone in any angle from a normal viewing angle the screen temperature goes warm to cold. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Same exact problem here man. I've posted a few threads about it but I figured I was alone since no one replied. My room step s3 is yellow as well. I'm on my 3rd and they have all been the same.
I'm just going to assume it's calibrated this way. Sure does look nice from an angle though lol

upgrading from the gs II, I picked up my gsIII last week and noticed the warmer color...especially on a white background. The warm white reminds me of LCD instead of OLED... i was thinking Samsung duped us and swapped LCD for OLED.
Since the color becomes cooler when you change the viewing angle, i'm thinking it might be a tint in the screen glass or digitizer to give that warmer color when viewing straight on. Personally, I prefer whiter whites but it seems most smart phone users, especially iphone users, are used to/prefer a warmer white screen so maybe Sammy is trying to appeal to the masses used to a LCD look
I hate it, especially coming from the GS2. Looking at it from an angle the screen looks perfect, WHY SAMSUNG WHYYYYYYYYYY:crying:

Well...coming from a Galaxy Note - which was WAY too 'cool' of a tint (to where it was almost green) - I am thrilled to have a warmer white with the S3!
But I have also spent the last many years as a video/TV "purest" and have my home theater stuff professionally calibrated. Warm (reddish) whites are much more accurate and are actually the NTSC standard (6500k).
I too noticed and hence this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754062
Comparing with vibrant i even thought i had a defective screen. But when i put GS3 next to my laptop and desktop lcd screen, the whites look much better and thus i console my self

I agree. My tv is calibrated that way as well. I think most phones are more blue that we got used to it and now the warm color is not "normal" lol

I just did the same thing and the whites definitely look better than my laptop screen. I guess I can live with that.
Coming from an OG Epic with voodoo sound and color will just be an adjustment I guess.
Has anyone returned their phone because of this issue? If so how did you go about returning it?
Has anyone check their Screen Tone adjustment under Display?

Have you got the "Yellow tint" issue on your Galaxy S III

I'm extremely disappointed with the yellow (or pink) tint issue on my newly purchased S3. Seems that not all the handsets affected. Let's see how many.
Mine had it, got my replacement today and my replacement doesn't suffer from any tint. I recommend to whoever has this issue to get a replacement ASAP.
My pebble blue sg3 has no tint.
I have been through 3 of these phones because of this "issue". I am on the third and i turned off that setting just now to turn off the automatic tone adjustment. At first it didn't make any difference but i rebooted the phone and WOW. what a difference!!! Whites are white now haha at low brightness its not perfect but that's a limitation of AMOLED technology but at higher brightness settings all whites are amazing now!!
Before you exchange your phone make sure to try this!!
No tint problem here

No tint in blue S3 even with auto tone adjustment.
I've got a greeny yellow tint if I use the phone at any viewing angle except from 100% flat to my eyes.
Thinking about replacing as it's quite annoying watching it change colour as I type..

Its really annoying as the tint disappears on changing viewing angle..

for the first combined two hours or so of usage, there was definitely a yellow tint to my S3. especially when compared to my housing (i have a white S3) or my case (bright white, whiter than the housing). open up the gmail app for instance, and the background white was tinted for sure.
that has changed however.
after the two or three hour (total) mark of usage, the screen colours changed. the white of the screen lost the yellow tint, and is cooler now, and matches the whiteness of my case. overall, very pleased with the screen, don't even care about PenTile.
i wonder if you guys are jumping the gun ... or if i'm just lucky?
any problem here ; )
ohhhhhhh
i got one:crying:
I'm starting to think this is a coating or something on the display. Every single one I've had has it and it only shows in certain lighting. At work it's so apparent. In the store I couldn't see it. Also at max brightness it's barely noticeable.

Thank you!! I just got my S3 and was contemplating returning it because of the yellow tint. I even unchecked the auto tone adjustment thinking that was the issue, but couldn't tell the difference so I turned it back on. It wasnt until I read your post and restarted my phone with the setting turned of did it resolve my issue. Now my whites look white and everything looks great. Thanks!
Definitely a bug though, you shouldnt have to restart your phone for this setting to take effect.

Don't know how they're e controlling it but if it's kernel level a reboot would be expected.

i did read all of it :/.. but i thought it was an old out of date thread

White/stuck pixels beginning to appear on both of my DNAs

I have two DNAs (Work/personal) and both are now showing 3~5 white pixels near the edges of the display. There were no dead nor stuck pixels when I purchased them, but 2~4 white pixels are stuck permanently and 1~3 pixles flashes randomly on both devices now. I have tried leaving the phones off for 24 hours and rapidly screening solid colors to see if the white pixels go off, but they still remain permanent. Other people can't see them, but as I have abnormaly good near-sighted eyes, they are irritating, especially in dark environments.
My only guess is that changing the voltage/clock speed caused this, since it happened after installing the Cube kernel (NOT blaming the kernel nor its developer.) with adjustments to voltage and clock speed settings. Or perhaps the 1080p LCD panels are just more vulnerable to pixel-related defects than lower resolution LCD panels.

I also have several stick pixels, but I have not even flashed a new rom yet so I doubt it has anything to do with ocing
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
I have had stuck pixels for a while after undervolting the screen voltage output on my Galaxy S before, so I would say that it is probable.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I had two white pixels on two different DNA's until I got my third one which didn't have any. In short, I don't have a DNA anymore so I couldn't say if my third would have developed these.
I did a Google search at the time and we definitely aren't alone unfortunately.
Good luck if you get replacements!

I had several dead pixels in the middle of the screen and it looked horrible. I factory reset to stock and it didn't go away so I too it back to VZW. The salesman looked at it for two seconds and said it was bad and instantly ordered me a new one. The entire casing of the phone creaked really bad before and even worse after the plug broke off the bottom so maybe I had a lemon.

Yellow tint in the lower half of screen?

Does anyone else have the same problem? Particularly obvious when you're using apps with white bg, such as the default email/contacts app...any way of resolving?

It seems you got a defective screen.
It is unfair that you can't return the phone.
Is it in warranty? Send it to sony customer support for repair.

Yes, I had the yellow / red hue on the screen on my Z2. I can confirm that there are different screens on the market. I have seen two Z2 with completely normal neutral greys and two with the yellow/red hue. I returned mine and searching for a better unit...
Here is a example picture of a bad and good Z2 displays. The one on the right looks right against any other LCD.
check --> settings - display - white balance make red , green and blue "0"
i have yellow tint on mine as well, just got it yesterday.
White balance was at default 0,0,0
set red > 0
green > 100-110
blue > max 255
and youll get a cool white display without yellow tint
In all honesty if you have to set blue to maximum to get white, something's wrong surely.
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
Yeah just out of curiosity i set mine to the numbers provided, it looks horrible, your display must be defective
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk 2
In my example picture above, both screen are at 100% manual brightness, and RGB white balance settings are 0,0,0.
If it is normal that two screens are so different, the tolerances in manufacturing are horribly large. Not at all acceptable for this price level of products. I returned my yellow screen to the store and we tried to find a unit with a normal screen but it looked like all their stock was with the yellow screen. Annoying, as I have seen two perfectly good neutral screens on my friends' Z2 units.
Not sure if I should continue buying and returning in a different place or just throw in the towel and get another brand and model phone entirely.

My screen is a bit yellow by default, but changing the white balance sorts it (nice of Sony to pop that in). To be honest I don't really notice it unless I put it next to another phone anyway. My phone was made in China and is the black model. I believe it's Phones4u stock, for what it's worth.
What is annoying though is that my screen appears to be a tiny bit askew... I noticed straight away that the front glass is, but now I'm sure the screen itself is. Will have to find the measuring tape to know for sure.

and the funny thing is, the technician told me that it was really about luck - he has TWO Z2s, one pre-prod and one post-prod, and both are perfect(he was kind enough to let me play around with em - i suppose he uses it as his personal phones)
