Mobile data biggest battery drainer! - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

So I've been enjoying my ultra for the last couple days. Battery seems great. But losing percentages of battery at standby caught my eye. My phone would die when I wouldn't even be using it. So yesterday I found the culprit. Mobile network on all the time kept draining it. I disabled it and enabled wifi at work and home and now the battery lasts for days. Just a quick tip.

In every phone that's the main reason for battery drain on standby.
You could set Stamina mode to disconnect some functions you don't use while the screen is off, and leave on just the one that are vital (for you).
Anyway, another reason could be the signal strength in your area: if it's not strong enough, the battery drains because your smartphone is constantly trying to get the best signal (between 2G, E, 3G, H and H+) for its connections, and that is VERY battery consuming.

Yep, im just trying to put some info out there...Other than that, the battery lasts me a long time. I do have to disable mobile data even with wifi on or else it would still continue to drain it!

Seems impossible to me... On my S3 and on my wife's Z data won't even show up in the status bar when wifi is enabled...
And if you could install better battery stats, you could see that none of the app used mobile data...

I'm pretty sure my phone is using it. If I disabled it and it improved my battery life. Then I think it was working pretty hard even on idle or even off.

Where are you located? Big city? Small town? Do you have a strong signal all the time? It'll use way more battery if the signal is weak.

I got it when I am home. Poor H+ signal and 3G signal, so it always switch between H+/3G/E and it result in bigger battery drain. I go in the center and keep mobile data open and no problem.

Battery life with low reception

I am amazed by the battery management of the phone. Where i work is practically a bunker, almost no signal at all. The phone keeps jumping from sprint to roaming all day. And i still manage to get out of work with 30% battery left. My epic was always on the charger.

Mine's been good at my office too (virtually no Sprint signal), I'm really happy with the battery life so far. I have missed some calls due to jumping between Sprint and Verizon, but I expected that to happen.
anything you guys did with settings or something, because that is NOT the case with me. In the back office where I work I get low signal and goes to roaming, phone barely lasts the time that im there.
Havent been at work the past two days and the battery life is great, went over 24 hrs without a charge with light usage. Dont really use it that much at work other than a few calls and txts and some very light web browsing in the areas I get data connection, not enough to kill the batter like it does I would think.

If you don't use Facebook or any of the other carrier bloatware, uninstall it via the settings > applications menu. I was surprised how much I could remove without having root, it's really nice to see.
I managed 50 hours off of a single battery change over the past two days, battery saver mode (set to 15% threshold) finally kicked in this morning, but I have great signal strength at home and work.
IMO the battery life is much better at stock on the 3D compared to the 4G, but it still isnt great. Im sure once we get custom kernels and ROMs that things will get better.

How strong is your signal at work? If you have a weak signal, the phone turns up the power to the radios and will drain your battery trying to keep that weak signal connected.
That's pretty atrocious.... Can you switch? What mods do you have?

Did you charge it from a computer? Maybe the cpu isn't entering the deep sleep mode.
It's your cell signal. I had terrible reception with my Verizon Nexus and since switching I am shocked at how much better my battery life is. I don't use the device more or less, but this is amazing.

What are you guys using to display battery percentage on the toolbar? I'd like an app that can do that, but the best I found was battery notifier. I'm not rooted, on stock ROM.
And, to the original poster, I normally get anywhere from 15-28 hours on battery, depending on how many emails, texts, games, photos, etc I do. I have managed to kill it in about 4 hours, but that was on a marathon plants vs zombies session.

Try Battery Indicator. Puts a permanent notification in the status bar but that's the best you are going to get w/o rooting. That app is fairly small and the numbers are easy to read - others I've tried are much bigger and are hard to read.
Turn off your Wifi if you've been leaving it on. Also install CPU Spy and see if the phone is entering Deep Sleep - or not.

Bad battery drain issue

Hey guys please help. I barely use my phone and the battery still drains very quickly. If I charge it up to 100% before I go to sleep and then unplug it, by morning it is at 50%. The only sync option I have on is Gmail mail. I have 4G and wifi on but I really doubt those are killing my battery. In the time it took me to type this message I lost 2%. I can't live like this! Suggestions?
Ps for the first 2 or 3 days that I had my phone the battery life was fine. No issues.

Turn off 4g and WiFi for starters. Don't need 4g since lte is not out yet. And if your house has no WiFi makes no sense to have it on searching for something that is not there. Also hold home bottom and close apps and clear ram.

I've been having the same issue on my att galaxy s3. I think there is a bug possibly when the phone is having issues maintaining a data connection. I always know when I am going to have an issue b/c the phone will stay warm even when I'm not using the phone. The only solution I have found is to turn off mobile data. Restarting the phone every day seems to help as well. There are a few other threads from people having the same issue. I'm guessing it's the data connection connecting and disconnecting over and over again. Cell standby will usually show up as taking up the most battery life.

Unfortunately the lte does drain your battery. So does the keyboard vibrating with every click. Get a app that with shut down background apps when your screen is off and temporally disable data. Works for me since I usually have at least 10 to 12 apps running that I forget to turn off.

If you're using widgets that auto sync like fb, weather etc. By default they're set to sync every hour. The first day I got my phone I got 4 hours screen time and about 17 hours total on the battery, but I didn't have any widgets running. after I started running fb and weather it went to 1 hour screen time and about 9 hours total on the battery. Google+ was the main juice guzzler.

AT&T lte is not a huge battery drain in my experience. Your battery usage is not normal so you either have a bunch of social media going crazy all the time or some rogue apps preventing deep sleep. Try using better battery stats to see if you can track things down.
Also forcing Wi-Fi to not use power save is s big drain did you do that? *#0011# menu Wi-Fi

Battery problems?

Hello. I picked up my s3 this morning after having charged that night. I unplugged it at about 1 in the morning, with airplane mode on, bluetooth off, and WiFi connected. When I woke up though at 10, the battery had dropped down to 80 percent while in standby, with no recent apps even running. I'm not sure if this is normal or if it's a battery problem but it's quite annoying, because it drained 20 percent in 9 hours of standby. Any help is appreciated.

Maybe caused by ~LG8 OTA combined with dual-band WiFi network?
I posted this over in another forum, but copying here to see what you all think...
..............
I don't know this for a fact, but I've read some things that lead me to believe the issue may (again, not confirmed), MAY be related to the recent ~LG8 OTA push. The root (no pun intended) cause is related to how the SG3 interacts in 802.11n band Wi-Fi networks that utilize multi-band (i.e. 2.4Ghz combined and 5Ghz running simultaneously).
One of the "features" of ~LG8 was to remove Advanced options for Wi-Fi networks, switching the connectivity logic to "automatic." If a GS3 is in a multi-band 'n' Wi-Fi network, it MAY be switching back and forth between bands, thus chewing up battery without actually pulling any data.
This is unconfirmed, so don't shoot the messenger. Can any of you validate whether or not the Wi-Fi networks where you see excessive drain is indeed a multi-band 'n' network?

Keeping WiFi vs Off for battery life

Ever since I got my SGS3 last year, I noticed that WiFi would drain battery rather than save battery. For whatever reason I always got better battery life with WiFi off rather than on.
I noticed a lot more wake locks too. I don't know if it was because with a solid WiFi conneciton, apps tend to refresh a lot more than they normally do.
Enter the HTC One. I have noticed the same type of effects. I've only had it for 2 days but I am noticing better battery life without it.
So I want to collect some data using a poll. Do you get better battery life with it on or off?

It goes inactive, but it doesn't actually get 'turned off'. If I don't have it turned off, what happens is when my wifi goes to sleep then mobile data goes back on. I don't want that.
of course you get better battery with Wifi turned off. but doesn't Wifi consume less battery than cellular data? my balance is to keep Wifi on ANYTIME i'm in a trusted wireless network and manually toggle off cellular data when I'm using Wifi.
It burns battery when it isn't connected and on but I get better battery with it on and connected
