Hello,
I've been quite disappointed with the HTC Keyboard on my European Hero (currently on 2.73.405.whatever firmware). In almost all cases in QWERTY mode it does not do any auto-correction of any type, even if I have prediction and spell checking turned on in the settings. It only offers auto-correction when I am in a multi-line input such as sending a text message or a textarea in a website . When it does work, it works well and I can type really efficiently. But in most text fields such a Google search box, etc, it gives me no auto-correction and I have to type each key exactly.
Strangely enough, in compact qwerty and keypad mode it always works, but in QWERTY mode it doesn't. Also I've tried TouchPal (a replacement keyboard) and it works all the time in TouchPal. But I would like it working on the stock HTC keyboard.
I just spotted a screenshot on some blog showing the auto-correction box working in a one-line textbox in QWERTY mode (the Google search box)!

Note the popup box with the orange pill-button and + key.
Has that one been hacked so correction always works, or is mine showing some software bug?
How can I get mine to do this?
same issue here, I wrote to htc support and waiting for an answer
Hi, I have noticed the same thing, it is probably a bug. Actually, the t9 doesnt work for me even in compact qwerty and phone keypad. Are you sure it does for you? i am running the latest fw too, 2.73.405.5 wwe.
Anybody in this forum can help?
So I recently installed CM 6.1.3 and it works great and its amazing
but I cannot change the keyboard language :S
I added the arabic language to the keyboard in the setting and it says to swipe space to change language... I swipe and nothing happens :S
Any help ?
Hold you finger little bit longer and then swipe.
Nop it doesn't work :S
If I keep pressing it just makes spaces across the message
Do you have any video or something showing how?
I can't find one on youtube and i can't make one by my own. But tell me, do you see on your space bar two opposite arrows and a name of the language currently using?
Perhaps this picture will help!

No I only see one language above the space bar no arrows
If you press and hold the space bar the arrows will show up and than just slide it over to desired language. Hope you figure it out

Btw, did you choose more than 1 language in the Android keyboard settings?
Menu/Settings/Language & Keyboard/Android keyboards settings/Input languages and tick languages which you want.
I did but I know what the problem is now :S
I think there is no keyboard for arabic language, I tried other languages and It worked and I was able to switch between the languages
I downloaded a separate keyboard for arabic
Thanks Guys!

The 'default input' is Sony Ericsson's suqashiinput.apk (or squashiinput.apk, sometimes it gets lost in translation), the one that came with the original firmware, where a lot of custom roms use android for base, and only have the Android standard keyboard.
You can add the SE .apk yourself, (just rip it from a rom that includes it and put it in system/app with 644 permissions) or you can look in the first post of the X10Mini Pro Development section if there is a custom keyboard layout for your phone.
sorry for my good english :$
Thanks

hahaha lol
Some ROM have the stock keyb modified so that numbers and symbols are shown along with aplha keys and can be typed by long-pressing the keys.
Is it available as a standalone apk/zip ? I hate having to switch to numeric/symbol kb mode just to get a number/symbol entered into a password field etc.
What language are you using?
I noticed on stock keyboard when keyboard language is set to English you get quick symbol on keyboard. But when I set it to French there aren't any symbols.
English/US
Since I got the N10, I tied 3 different ROMs - 2 didn't have this convenience feature in their keyboard and one did ...

Go to Settings/Language & input and then touch the settings Sliders next to ‘Android keyboard.’ Next, touch ‘Advanced settings’ and touch ‘Custom input styles.’ It will say Deutsch and Francais, but you can ignore that. Touch ‘Add Style’ near the upper right. Then select your language and change the layout from QWERTY to ‘PC’ or one of the other styles. Now touch ‘Add’ and you’ll see your new style appear in the list. Touch ‘Enable’ and use the back key to go back to the Language & input screen. Now touch ‘Input languages’ near the top and uncheck ‘Use system language.’ Lastly, touch ‘English (US) (PC)’ and you’re done.

Hi I just bought a HTC Desire X and I want to have the phone keyboard in my language (Icelandic) but I can't somehow. I have installed both Smart Keyboard Pro and Icelandic for smart keyboard pro. I have found Icelandic in Language & Keyboard - Smart Keyboard Pro - Language - Current language and Language selection key. Still some letters do not show up like Ð/ð and Þ/þ which are Icelandic only letters and should be there because they are very common in Icelandic.
Can anyone help me with this because it's frustrating to type in d instead of ð and th for þ?

After translating some of the comments for Iceclandic for Smart Keyboard it looks like a number of people are having the same problem. The problem must be with the language itself.
You might want to try one of these keyboards which support Icelandic:
Scandinivian Keyboard
MultiLing Keyboard
SlideIT free Keyboard

Sigur Rós FTW :victory:
