vibrate only on text messages? - Nokia Lumia 920

I've tried every possible way to get vibrate only on text messages without any text tone but I can't seem to get it. Is it possible on the Nokia Lumia 920 to have no text tone but vibrate only instead? If I sent my text tone to none and receive a text its not gonna vibrate at all unless I use a text tone. I don't want to switch the whole device to vibrate only I still want to have my ringtone on.

I do not think it is possible to do just yet. When GDR3 is released this will be a possibility, but u have to wait 4 it. Sorry.

Just go around the need to have a tone ... and create a silent one and assign it as the message tone ... then it plays, but does not make a sound ...

How do u assign a custom message tone in WP8? It cannot be done.

Sorry about that ... I thought that the ringtone maker would allow the ringtone to be used for the SMS alerts ... and you are right, there is not an obvious way to get a new SMS alert loaded on the phone ...

custom text message alert tone

:? im really confused adding new ringtones is peice of cake but how do u actually add a custom text message alert tone in? if anyone knows please could you tell me thankyou
just put the custom wav file into the windows folder, and then you can select that sound from sounds and notifications within the settings area of the xda. Just select that sound for new SMS message
Pete
Nope, the new wav-file doesn't show up in the selection box... How did you do it again..?

[Q] cant change message alert tone

This morning when i came to work I changed my message alert tone to whistle so I wont disturbed other people. At lunch i changed it back to may custom message alert tone but when I received a text message I'm still hearing the whistle tone. Im tried to change it again but I still get the whistle tone. Ive tried restarting the phone, reseating the battery and memory card with no luck.

You can change your general notification alert tone, and also specifically your messaging alert tone. Perhaps you changed your messaging alert tone specifically, then changed your general one. Check in the settings of your messaging app for an alert tone there.

Text Message Notification

While I am on the phone I get a vibration of a new text or sound of incoming email. Is there a way to make this not happen while I am on the phone?

[Q] Separate notification sound for text message?

I hate that every notification except email has the same sound. How can I change so that text messages have their own notification? Right now text messages and all other random notifications share the same ringtone so I never know if I got a text message or something else.

It doesn't work. If you change it, it changes it for all notifications. Not just texts.
I just figured it out.

I had been looking for this setting for days now and I just stumbled upon it. When you are editing a contact go to the bottom of the contacts information and hit the "ADD ANOTHER FIELD" button. There you will see the ability to add the "Message Tone" field as well as specify a "Vibration Pattern" if wanted. Not sure why they didn't put the Message Tone option on the contact by default.
Tony
Mind blow.
Dude, just set any ringtone for notifications via phone settings - it'l be your sms ringtone AND for any other applications having opportunity to create notifications you should open those applications, go their settings and find there option notifications and change notifications sound directly for that application. Logic!
Binrob, I get what you are after because I did a google search for the very same thing. No one here seems to get it.
What happens is all these other apps utilize the same NOTIFICATION sound as your text messages (like Facebook, or playing back-and-forth board games). Binrob and the rest of us want our TEXT messages TO BE DIFFERENT sounding than all the others. I don't want to look at my phone every time i get a notification, but i do want to look at my phone every time someone texts me. There doesn't seem to be a way to customize SMS/TEXT to its own notification sound. Android needs to fix this.
You've answered everyone's question! This should show up #1 on Google search!

Has there been updates since to change to separate notification for all contacts?
I get this issue and NEED them to fix as well! I don't want fb messenger and text messaging and any other notification to have the same sound. I want to know what app the notification is for WITHOUT unlocking and looking at my phone. Also, on my s5 I was able to change my led color for specific apps. If it blinking red I knew it was a text. Blinking green fb message. Blinking blue fb notification. Etc! Please add those back!
You CAN set the sound for messages, go to settings, notifications, advanced ......... choose messages, more settings (at the bottom of the screen), and the next screen is where you change the sound that is made. Not exactly user friendly though!
I think the answer is as simple.as: go to your message app, top right hit: more, Then go to settings and set whatever ringtone you want to have under notifications. I guess this should be what you are looking for.
Cheers
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app
notificaton tone in message+
The comment that you can set message tones In contacts is correct except that apps like message+ , at least on the Galaxy , ignore that and use their own tones
I just found it....
open messages on the right top corner click there and pick customize ando under tones and there u can pick whatever ringtone for only SMS....
FOR SAMSUNG S9/S9+. To have a specific sound for you messages, go to messaging app/setting/notifications/general notications must be off/emergency alerts must be off. Go to new messages and choose your preferred sounds.

[App][9+]SMS: tone for incoming messages

Hello,
I am running LOS 16 in my Nexus 6, and I can't find a way to set the messaging tone for incoming SMS. There's simply no button and no option. In the setup there is one option to change the overall notification sound, which is valid for all apps and all kind of notifications. I only want to change the sound for incoming SMS.
What is even more odd: if I choose a particular conversation and choose "options/persons" I can set an individual tone for that person!
In other words: the app can set individual tones for every sender, but not a general tone for incoming SMS.
Is this a bug? Or did I really not discover the right option by now?

you should ask on the ROM's own forum, or ask the devs of that ROM.
Which forum would you recommend, that is allowed for non-developers and is being read by the right people?
