can anyone tell me a app with which i can connect to the files that are on my file server
ES file explorer in android for example ... but webos?
thanks!
Interested in this as well..
if you know how to use ssh and sftp, that would be your best option, since there's an ssh server and sftp app in the preware app browser.
that preware app seems to have bricked my device :-( so first I have to fix that, but you are right, that was my first thought as well.... I will try that as soon as the device is fixed (long night :-( )
[Q] Network File Transfers
Anyone know an app or method for transferring files over to the Touchpad? The actual file, not just streaming video or whatnot. I picked up a touchstone, so it would be cool not to have to plug wires in... ever.
I'm a similar boat but would actually be ok with just the ability to stream media from a windows file share.
Closest I've found but haven't tested is the following:
ugh I can't post external links
do a google search for webos xorg and it should be the 3rd link down titled: IOBox - PC File Syncing (xorg tools) - WebOS Internals
from what I see it's just a way to create a mountpoint to a windows CIFS share. Would be nicer if something like android's file expert existed.
To have a simple network browser on the Touchpad would make it 10x more usable.
that is one of the things webos lacks of :/
i cant tell my girlfriend to ssh onto the homeserver just to watch a movie or pictures.
maybe some dev could make an ugly but working app for that
with preware you can use ssh and sftp for cli transfer.
but a network file browser would be alot nicer imho

No, but you could set it up for her on the tablet so she just has to launch it and then set up and sftp client on her computer such as filezilla. After that, it's just a matter of dragging and dropping files into filezilla.

If you have sshd on your tablet, you can easily use a gui client on your computer to connect to it like filezilla.
I was hoping there was a convenient app for us lazy people...
Ah well, it's something. Thanks.

Yep, nothing really out there until someone writes one for it
is there any news or ideas?...does any one know the devs of ES file explorer ... is there such a huge difference between web os and android ...
.. 10 dollars for such an app from me
(having that app - I would not need any android ...)
I use this:
http://www.precentral.net/tbtransfer
still in alpha but good enough for small files. Not recommended for files >100Mb as it takes much longer compared to usb cable.
perfect, thanks.
is that any unsecure, not beeing protected in any way?...
I think it only works with computers connected on the same router.

I understand you are looking for an app, but I installed the uberkernel which supports mounting of remote shares. There is a good how to if you look on google but basically you update your kernel to uberkernal or f15c, install Internalz from preware, add a line to the file /etc/fstab, and execute a mount -a command in a command line. Now I am able to browse my network share and copy files back and forth. The only problem I ran into was that I was trying to mount a sub folder of my shared folder but you can only mount the shared folder itself. I went crazy trying to figure that one out when it was actually rather obvious...
Wifi file transfer
Is there an app for touchpad like ES File Explorer where you can transfer files to your desktop/tablet wirelessly through a local wifi network?
I use wifi media sync works perfect for me.
Cheers
John
Are there better alternatives to copying files from a Mac to the Prime outside of Android File Transfer?
AFT is always disconnecting on me mid transfer, usually resolved by rebooting the Prime. This is incredibly annoying. I would like another way to directly transfer files from my Mac that is faster and more reliable.
Looking for something other than Micro SD card (extra copying step that way) or Dropbox (too slow for video files).
Thanks!
SwiFTP will run an FTP server on your Android device that you can connect to for file transfers.
File Manager HD will connect to a network share from your device.
FolderSync will sync folders to/from device and many types of connections (FTP, SSH, etc.)

Thanks! I will check out those options. Surprised it got this many views before someone replied.
Dropbox.. come on now, 1 obvious easy easy choice
and you should check out AirDroid..

See my original post. Way too slow to transfer movies.
Actually, i'm also looking for a good File transfer app (from TFP to windows and from windows to TFP)
Atm i'm using ES File Explorer but the data throughput is complete garbage. I thought it might've been caused by the wifi issues but considering it takes 10 minutes to transfer 150MB (while near the router and having a good connection 50 dBm / speedtest saying a bandwith of 13Mbit)
Edit: right now i'm getting a throughput of 450 KB when transferring files using ES file explorer. (probably the same while using other tools but isn't this way 2 low?)
Edit2: Airdroid seems to have a rly high throughput when transferring files. Still looking for a way to stream videos.. ES file explorer seems nice but the throughput is to low. File manager HD doesn't allow DICE player to use HW playback (for some weird reason)
Any suggestions instead of hosting an FTP server?
Use adb
On the tablet enable usb debug in the settings/developer. Connect prime by usb, install android sdk on the mac, open terminal and type: adb push file-name-with-path /mnt/sdcard/Movies
This method complecated, but you can transfer files >4Gb (AFT don't support a big files) and fast because use usb, not wifi.
And, you can drag and drop file from finder to the terminal for insert a file path in the command line.
I'm going to test out Airdroid and SwiFTP and see which one I like better. One of them looks like it will suite my purpose.
Thanks!
It's funny... I own a Mac, but when it comes to terminal commands, I'm better with Windows. I know command line stuff so much better than linux or unix shell. I work on Windows servers though... but I love my Mac. Don't know ADB that well, but I think I have some documentation on it. I should probably learn.
I think the winner is going to be SwiFTP. I don't need anything pretty... and I can use FileZilla which is the client I usually use for everything else. I like to see the data transfer rates easily.
bBest alternative Use FTP I use this application in your mac Forklift in mac and Mini File explorer in my Android, But u need to be connected in same wifi hope it can helps:angel:
I need to use Internet Explorer on my mobile devices for my job. My company's as well as a few client's secure websites as require Internet Explorer to work correctly. I need to log into those websites to access data while I am working out in the field. Those websites absolutely require Internet Explorer.
Those websites do not even work on Firefox on PC or Safari on Mac. So far only a coworker's Windows phone with Internet Explorer seems to works. Everyone else with iPhone, iPad and Android phone have not been able to use their mobile devices, and we all have to use a laptop with Windows, which seems to defeat the purpose of having a mobile device.
I know Android does not have Internet Explorer, but is there some browser that can emulate Internet Explorer on Android?

Try Dolphin Browser... and try to change UA to Internet Ex (i think)... or Boat Browser
Inviato dal mio GT-S5570 con Tapatalk 2
maybe out of the thread ..
but try out emulating a pc .. ?
Like using your mobile as a controller of the pc
else try Opera if yo haven't , change the user agent into Desktop
hope it works well for yo ..
You can try Dolphin Browser since you can enter a custom user agent so the website will think you are using IE. If its only built to work with IE's rendering engine you may have issues, but often times these sites are mostly functional in other browsers unless they need ActiveX.
This user agent string will tell the site you are using IE8 on XP

Need to run site in compatibility view on IE 8 on android
Hi I have a similar issue with my phone and tab, need to login to secure server but even on PC the darn site needs to run in compatibility view for me to even be able to log in (IE 8-10 only) Have done the string like above opens the window but does not allow login as compatibility view is not enabled... Does the same thing as on PC if this is not enabled ( jumbles up the page and does not allow the login button to be clicked) Is there any way for me to get this working?
Please help.

This is my 3rd post about what I'm trying to get suggestions on with a browser I have been given access to that works only on Windows 10 in windows devices but also on any Android or iOS devices. The view mode can be changed from Android, to Safari, and between desktop/mobile. Mentioning this because noticed it does emulate ie on desktop mode. Could be the answer.
It is MX5, the latest version to Maxthon Browser, and it is worlds ahead of anything available for Android. I am trying to get suggestions as to setting up a thread for availability and such, and am sure you would have to create an account through a Maxthon Browser download from playstore. Has cloud storage as well as syncing favorites, open tabs, between devices. Also has the ability to store webpages offline now in their entirety, or just extract pics, vids that can be modded for use in other ways. Also has what is called UUMail built in you name your own webserver, enter email address into and create shadow (alias) email addresses to use online that are filtered for spam. Adblocking is builtin as well.
If this seems to be an answer, try Maxthon Browser off playstore, create a user account and password. Even if you change the view mode in it to desktop and that does not fix the IE compatability problem, maybe this version, MX5 will.

Here similar problem, wish/need/pray to acces with android browser to old website made for IE 5.0 and javascript... Under PC I sue IE Tab... Try install add-onson Firefox for android, but not works...
(
I need the same thing, I have a dodge service manual cd that uses internet explorer 7 and under to run properly, I have used internet explorer in dev mode to run it it using ie 7, also on chrome I used IE tab extension and they both work great for windows. The problem is on android nothing works. I have tried every browser. I have also tried Yandex browser which supports add on and have installed ie tab but it does not work. I also tried Firefox and install ie tab using chrome store foxified but again it does not work. I wish there was a way of running this cd on android. I think it needs activex, netscape, svg viewer and java script.
Hi guys,
I have an Amazon Kindle and the SGS2 which I take out and about with me.
I want to be able to transfer documents to and from the phone and Kindle (already got SSH access to the Kindle over WiFi) while out and about.
My phone is rooted and I've installed dropbear SSH. I can use connectbot to SSH into the phone locally but the shell I'm presented with doesn't see `scp`. I believe this is supposed to be included with dropbear? How do I get scp from this shell?
The reason I'm looking to do it all from a root shell on the phone is becuase I believe this is the only way to get access to the clients connected to the virtual access point. Hence I'll be able to:
be in the middle of the desert, create a WiFi tethering hotspot with the phone (though it has no signal), connect the Kindle to the phone via this access point, get a root shell on the phone and scp documents from the phone to the Kindle.
I believe I am as far as this final step but need an extra kick to get me there. Perhaps I need to install another shell?
Thanks!
Bump. Someone here knows the answer. Come on!
Just use es file explorer and choose ftp and connect to ur kindle which is now connected to ur hot spot... I tried it with a wifi network and it works so I guess it should work through tethering too.
VX ConnectBot
There is a free SSH client basedon connectbot, with scp support:
F-Droid link:
http://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=scp&fdid=sk.vx.connectbot
Google Play link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsInNrLnZ4LmNvbm5lY3Rib3QiXQ..
VX Connectbot is alleged to have scp support, but I couldn't find any way to make it copy a file from a remote host using scp.
Vx connectbot implements scp perfectly
It works for me, using a Xiaomi Mi Max with android 7.
Connect with ssh to a remote ssh server.
When you are logged in, you should see displayed a terminal interface on the screen of your smartphone. Then double tap in the top right corner of this terminal display and you should see 3 dots aligned vertically. Buy tapping once on the 3 dots, a scrolling menu appears, at the bottom of which there are "Download file" and "Upload File" commands.
Download file enables you to download from the ssh server to your phone, and upload file enables you to upload files to the ssh server.
It's for me the only android app I've found to do scp, other one need ftp server, not only ssh server.
Hi i have just bought the blackphone and to my horror i can't seem to send files wirelessly to it using simp file wifi transfer or via bluetooth does anyone know how to do this or have accomplished it please? As i want to put games on without wearing out the usb port all the time or removing the back to use a sd card all the time. Please help thanks in advance
by ftp, wifi ftp, the free blue one on market
but i prefer http, total commander + wifi plugin - upload/download from any browser on any device
Install Bitvise SSH server to your PC and to android device put some filemanager like ES File Exploder there is simple TFTP, and you have secure link between devices, and you can access your PC thru internet.
