Android 4.3 Hitting US-Based HTC One Models Soon, Says HTC Insider - No Android 4.3 for the One S and EVO LTE | Androidheadlines.com
Pretty much sucks. Here I come Swappa! then off to Nexus 4 or Moto X via AIO, Straight talk, or Tmobile. I'll never buy another phone if it isn't a Sammy or Google.
it doesn't matter...we have awesome developers who are currently working on that sense 5 port! just a little bit more waiting, and we'll have android 4.3.
I've been on 4.3 since early August.

EVO still on local shelves. You'll get 4.2 or 4.3 definitely. They will do it like the original Evo Gingerbread update. You'll get it with no UI change.

I love it. This is so true. I don't care how many janky ports there are! I need my phone to be updated and work as it should. No disrespect to the devs but HTC makes it too difficult to make things work as Sense is too deep into the system.
As for Sprint I just shake my head. I live in Milwaukee and I haven't seen good service ever. I have a VZ Pantech for work and its data is great. I also have been testing T-Mobile hotspot that I got from Walmart which I tether mySprint phone to. I get about 6 down and 3 up.
This wasn't the icing on the cake but just shows y HTC can't compete with the big boys. I mean look at the S2 its been updated. This is y I'm going Nexus or Moto for here on out

I'm sick of paying 199.00 for a phone to stay in contract for two years. My contract isn't up and already screwed. You want to know why? The Sprint parties and maby HTC think ill upgrade to the one. Don't count your lucky stars! Ill go with Samsung or heck I may even take a look at the new Apple. I'm not even sure at this point I want to give Sprint my business on anything. The whole deal makes me sick!

So the lte and s won't get it, that leaves a few devices with similar specs which will. as for sense being too deep uhh yea it can be but that doesn't stop me, it just takes longer. My advice for you is that you unroot and get a nexus also stay unrooted its little ****s like you that ruin the android community you wouldn't be rooted if it were not for a one click tool you're pathetic with the whining and *****ing we devs aren't your parents and I doubt you're a toddler so stfu already.

Incoming rant: if you don't want to read it, please skip to the summary at the end of the post.
[RANT]
No 4.3? Big deal. I have better things in life to pour my emotions into.
Quite frankly, I care about Sense 5, not Android 4.3. Having 4.2.2 surely is a bonus over Sense 4.1 (port) didn't the quick settings and few lockscreen widgets. I've tested Sense 5, and the lighter UI improves performance immediately. Even the multitasking problem is much better (not like CM 10.1, but MUCH better than Sense 4.1).
You have to face the facts that our device is aging. That's how HTC does it. I KNEW that before I bought this phone, and I'm sure that most of you did too. Samsung can update its old flagship (like the S2) because MUCH more people purchased those handsets. HTC provided support for the OG EVO for a pretty decent period of time because of the big impact that it made.
You have to remember, the EVO 4G LTE is SPRINT'S flagship, NOT HTC! We are lucky enough to get the recognition to be listed on the to-be-updated list while we are over here on the back burner. I expect the One to get much better support than our phone because it is a carrier-wide flagship, unlike the Evo or the Incredible (who might not even get Sense 5,so be happy!).
Basically, this is a business, and the masses have already moved onto the One. Look at how many devs - OUR DEVS - have moved on. It should actually be in the company's best interest to please those people as well as the general public who have actually upgraded their phones to the latest handsets as well.
Lastly, I'm not sure how many of the new features that our phones will actually benefit from, aside from the TRIM feature, which can be found in the Lagfix app in the play store. There aren't a great deal of UI changes. The only one that comes to mind is the "elimination method" that you see while dialing a number. Android 4.2 is just as nice as 4.3. But AOSP isn't for me either. I'll stick with what the HTC devs push out.
[/RANT]
In a nutshell, this is how the business works. If you don't care about buying the latest and best, than they don't charge much about you. While I don't agree with it, I don't want to hear whiners who complain about it. Oh well. That's how it feels.

aw damn, beat me to my own post lol, I knew somebody was going to see that and post it on XDA
Saw that earlier on his Twitter feed. I think too many people assumed that since he said we weren't getting 4.3 that we weren't getting updated at all, which isn't the case, at least according to his info.
Is there a clear understanding when htc will get this update. I heard end of september or sometime october, and that the update would be 4.2.2 with sense 5 and that would be the last major update for the phone. P.S. sources say sprint already has the update but, it is under review. I am trying too find the rdf weblink for the phone too see exactly with coming soon too us, but the rdf link i have only shows back when the phone was released.
This is the only link I have too get the latest update rdf info from sprint

From an HTC Marketing perspective it doesn't make good business sense to provide ICS for the EVO 3D when they can make $$$ by selling you a new smartphone with ICS. Having said that I sure hope we get ICS on our EVT 3Ds and "marketing strategies" don't prevail.

They are required to support a new version of Android within 18 months of release. Basically, every phone gets one update to the next version of Android before EOL. We'll get ICS. Just not sure when. Should be soon. It's just up to Sprint now to get it ready.

I'd argue the exact opposite, actually. Aside from us geeks at XDA, the average customer that picked up the EVO 3D doesn't know/care about ICS. Anyone in the US who picked it up on contract for 2 years isn't likely to upgrade to a new phone until next year when their contract is up. The only people they are appeasing with an ICS update are people like us, who are clearly in the minority.
Even if it comes out 6 months from now, the rest of the crowd will just be like "Oh wow, an update. Cool! HTC rocks!" and they will be happy that HTC still supports their phone. The XDA crowd (the ones that don't move on to another phone) will be cursing HTC every day until ICS is released. Some of us will stick with HTC and some will jump ship. That's inevitable.
So pushing out an ICS update will actually go towards keeping the average customer satisfied until their contract expires next year. If they can promote brand loyalty to the average joe, they are more likely to pick up another HTC device next summer.
Of course, this way of thinking doesn't really apply to those outside of the US who aren't locked in to 2 year contracts.

That may have something to do with Google. The whole ICS release was kind of a mess, and the NS4G as of a month ago still hadn't received the official ICS update. Perhaps HTC/Sprint was waiting on a solid build from Google since 4.0.3 was kinda screwy.
So you're telling me I can warranty out my phone in 5 months and have a 4glte?? I'm down lol

EOL already? Wow the TP2 went selling forever before it went EOL. Guess HTC is going all in on the HTC one and wants to save money by consolidating production of one streamlined device. Granted there are the different models on one. Also this is mostly probably do to Sprint migrating to LTE and they want to move away from WIMAX ASAP.

This was NOT a requirement. It was more of a suggestion. There is no penalty from Google if someone who agreed to this decided to break this agreement.
However, HTC did promise we'd get the update already. It wouldn't be good for them to back out of their promise. And wasn't the og evo eol when it got gingerbread?

I am getting just a little upset with all manufacures out there. Earlier on in the cell phone world, the newer ment bigger bang for your buck, to include updates. We are now subject to baked in roms as I do see the trend.....look at Samsung's s2 for starters(girlfriend has one). I loved my original EVO. Hardware was top notch but for the CPU. I saw the duel core as an upgrade but on this phone, some things work soso. Word to the wise, coming from a real general customer. Shape up or I will take what I got and move back to a simple texting phone on a CHEAPER carrier.

It's more about smartphones reaching a plateau.. There isn't but so much you can do.
You can keep adding cores, but for what? The technology for the cpu, gpu and everything else is at a really good point right now so upgrades aren't gonna be as big. It's the same thing when it comes to software upgrades.
Jelly Bean is a small upgrade when compared to some previous versions of android. Maybe you're waiting for a phone to rub your back and clean your house.. That isn't coming until Android 37.1 so you'll be waiting a while

I think the OP is upset because some things that work great on an older phone seem to have regressed with this phone (if I'm interpreting correctly).
I do understand in a way - some things that have gone backwards have no good reason to do so (things like the WiFi issue and the fact that the signal of this phone is not as strong as the original EVO, plus the volume is lower).
However, overall, this phone is absolutely awesome. Those little things will be fixed OP, don't fret.
The OP is threatening to go:

I'm not sure what kind of leaps and bounds you're expecting cell phone manufacturers to make these days, but phones are still improving quite a bit. You must be talking about Apple releasing the same device every year with one or two incremental upgrades.
Glad I got some attention. I know that everything is moving forward, but do you think the general population (nonrooters) should have a phone that works as prescribed? Or are we really bata testing the public. Come on.....we are relying on Toyota to not fix the throttle problem again. I want only a cell phone to work as the specks say, or dang close to it in past Experience.

Well, that was depressing. The good news is that we will probably get a way better phone than the one seeing as the butterfly 2 is keeping its 5" display and probably Snapdragon 800 in that bad boy. so i must confess...i caved about opened up a second line (its for my grandmother..i took the smartphone and put her on a basic one. lol) and got the S4...HTC has spoiled me. Just adding apps to my homescreen is annoying. the way the screen gets all small and theres crap all over the place. i guess its nice and all with the options and junk but htc keps it simple. folders alone are annoying...i have to click on create a folder then drag them into it vs just dragging apps over each other and auto creating it...the sound the s4 is capable of is sad...touchwiz is still lagging its phones, its not major but enough to annoy me. i dont get whats the big deal about this phone... debating to return it or just make money off it. Its only my first day with it and i want back to my DNA!! i might return it in hopes that the next htc phone is the One if not something better....
P.S.
Another reason i bought it is because HTC lost alot of big wigs and the comments that followed were not too positive about HTC's future...

Yea this may be a discussion for another thread entirely. I personally wasn't all that impressed with my one and only samsung device to date which was the GNexus. I've enjoyed my Droid X, Razr, Thunderbolt, and DNA way more then I liked it. After having my DNA I really don't mind missing out on the S4. Doesn't seem like it can offer much more then a little faster hardware. Which I feel like the DNA is pretty darn quick to begin with.
I really hope that HTC isn't on the spiral down. I though the Thunderbolt and DNA had pretty great build quality and it looked like it was on the up and up with the One. We had a pretty large discussion on why they're going the way they are and we kinda felt like it is from them screwing things up with Google and the whole Nexus line, turning their back on the modding community, and poor marketing.

Well, that was depressing. The good news is that we will probably get a way better phone than the one seeing as the butterfly 2 is keeping its 5" display and probably Snapdragon 800 in that bad boy. That being said, even though the announcement was a let down, I'm kind of excited seeing as the buttefly 2 isn't restricted to keeping the same specs as the one. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

they didnt announce any phones at CTIA. it was all a marketting plan or whatever u wanna call it. the Butterfly 2 is already in production and some stuff was leaked about how its in the works. Since the the first Butterfly was the DNA counterpart, that means the the Butterfly 2 thats suppose to be out in third qtr might show up a month after the butterfly 2 release. just google butterfly 2 and you'll see alot of posts about the leaks and rumors.

I really like the Evo branding, with the kickstand and stylized red & black body. My contract is up in 2014 Spring, so I hope they push out a new EVO line around that time.
Do you think there is sufficient chance Sprint will do this? :highfive:
Fingers crossed.

Hopefully they don't fail a second time by putting the charge port in a bad place preventing the kickstand from working while charging...epic fail for HTC designers on our LTEvo.

Really? I am able to charge and use kickstand simultaneously and also use my evo. Not sure what you mean

The charging port being where it's at makes using docks much much easier than it being on the bottom.
I, too, think that the EVO line is dead. Thus has been a debate ever since the One was in the works. We might get something that is like a new Evo, and I wouldn't doubt that somebody will say that "Xxxx Phone" is the new Evo.

Then why didn't they flip the kickstand? I knew you could do that, not rocket science, thanks anyways for your two sense. The angle at which the phone sits in reverse is lower than when the kickstand is used as designed, so it is not the same. I never said they should have put the charging port at "the bottom", HTC could have simply placed the kickstand in reverse to allow the phone to charge with the cable on top and docking could still work as most docking stations won't ever use the kickstand to assist in holding the phone on the docking station.

sort of expecting an announcement end of this year or beginning of next. If anyone remembers how sprint/HTC roll there is a top tier phone every 2 years with a decent device every other year. Evo og year one, year 2 evo 3d, year 3 evo lte, year 4 HTC one (though this is better than decent)....what's for year 5? Honestly I can't really imagine anything better than the ONE so soon but, stranger things have happened. I also can't see evo's being dead. Before the galaxies, evo was the top selling series of phones for sprint. Guess we can hypothesize all night long but those are my 2 cents.

I'm fine with that but seems to early since "leaked" pictures are rolling out everywhere. Plus HTC is pushing for re branding. Could be huge things in wake. I'm kind of getting excited. Desperate times for a company who can get their chit together rather than flopping, can potentially pull of some amazing feats to leave us drooling.
lets hope not

Heaven forbid! This version was buggy enough for 2 phones.
The Evo line has a bad rep.
This will be the last.
Dumbest thread I've ever seen. What the F does it matter what name a phone has.?!
If HTC sticks to One that would be good marketing. . this Evo line is BS
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
What does a name matter? Go all the way back to the OG. It was special compared to it's family members on other networks. They needed upgrades to match it. That's why it matters. That's also why the OG took off and is still holding on this long after going EOL. Not named EVO it won't be purchased by me.
For that I can say that I think I read back before the One released that dropping 2 different versions of the device was costing HTC to much so now it is intended that only 1 version will be created to encompass all carriers and One is the name they liked. But Sprint is really beginning to have a bad habit of not selling a lot of the better phones so who knows how much longer they will even sell HTC. Sucks pretty bad when I gotta give up Sprint just to get a BlackBerry. Don't hope for Nokia either and with the reports coming that Apple is dropping i5 and i4 and possibly even i4s from production you may not find them much longer either. HTC better do something great to save them.
Its not Sprint's fault HTC doesn't sell. How many commercials in comparison have you seen of anything Samsung versus HTC or advertisement in general? HTC in my opinion has much better products versus just about everyone else yet no one will agree because they don't advertise worth a damn. Word of mouth is all they've been for so many years. Yeah its sorta worked but Samsung kinda surpassed by a bit. Can't wait to see how this Downey Jr thing won't go. Think HTC is more or less making a fool out of themselves with their ways of promoting devices when they should get their s together and make a convicing argument to the average consumer looking to support a new device. Eh, my 2 pennies for the jar.

The commercial they just released with him was incredibly stupid.
Well guys, I've been a fan of the EVO LTE since the customs preorder debacle. There have been quite a few hiccups, 3 dot menu, multi-tasking, frapple, but they have all been ironed out to make this phone one of the best on the market.
Having said all of that, I am looking towards the future. Say early 2014; what are some upcoming phones you believe will be successor to the EVO LTE? If not another HTC then what if anything do u have your eye on?
I am just curious to see what the future may hold. Have dreams of octo-cores and 8gb ram that could rival a gaming rig nowadays, lol.
Was waiting on windows phone but the ones sprint getting are wack. Checking fot the optimus g pro or g2 and this t6/htc one max phone
I have my upgrade in March 2014. I've been an evo nut since the OG but I'm anxious to see what will be available at that time. Samsung devices are much easier to root and I imagine there are more custom ROMs available due to their popularity.
Sent from my EVO using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
@atheistevofreak you would think so with 40 million+ sales but if you check out the sprint s3 section they have as much to choose from as we do.
I upgrade in october but im probably gonna be holding out for the One Max hopefully for a deal on black friday. The Ultra Z is what i had my eye on especially with them saying theyre going to be on top of updates now and always dropping aosp builds for their devices but a 3000mah battery with that processor and display amongst other things aint cuttin it. The nexus 5 by lg based loosely off the g2 sounds nice even tho i want a bigger screen but i doubt its coming to sprint. The note 3 sounds nice also but i hate their current design and even more than that i hate how touchwiz looks which is a shame because the multi screen and other features are great. The Honami is too small for me but its camera is off the chain. I have no interest in the g2 even tho its not a bad device, just nothing special. And i have absolutely no interest in the moto x.
I am honestly, completely torn on this. Android has really left that newly-wed stage that was very exciting. I love what android has become but the aftermarket development has grown stale. It seems every rom is the same except for the boot animations and carrier banner. Aosp roms have all become CM/AOKP/PA omelets. And except for Venom and its tweak settings, Sense Roms are all Identical. Back in the Hero days, Roms were modded for performance and devs also put some creative, cosmetic changes, fully themed, new icons, different animations, and all custom notification bar icons. It seems like everyone is out to get there name in the books like they are earning money from this. Just relabeling some one else's work and calling it their rom.
I think this just might be my last Android Device. Not sure how Windows Phone and I will get along... Hopefully it works out...

The 1020 is a great phone.
As smooth as the os is, i dont like it.
To each their own though.
My buddy loves his lumia.
While they might have the same selection of roms as us, they definitely have a bigger user base
