[Q] SIII cm10.2 & stable tweaks help - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, so basicly im running cm10,2 on my SIII and im just woundering what the best tweaks/mods are to improve battery life,
so far i have
install rom toolbox pro, and set the cpu profiles up as to lower cpu power as the battery drains
(confued as to what i/o scheluler i should use, and governor, i have done lots and reading but selectedi/o cfq and gov is pagasusk
plus under sysctl tweaks and govenor there are alot more setting, but im affraid to touch them as i dont want to become unstable
i also have greenefy and du battery saver i also have trustgo antivirus,
also if someone could help me, du battery saver have cpu lowering capabilys and if i was to use it with rom toolbox pro cpu profiles, would this conflict,
my kernel is 3.064-cm-g0a49c6d
and ive been looking at pimp my rom, app, but i dont know if its safe and benifishal,
sorry for spelling,
cheers jason

not sure if you're mentioning undervolting with "lowering cpu power" but if you're not you should try to undervolt your cpu

[Q] overclocking faq - where?

Hi guys,
I've been looking fruitlessly for an FAQ where the following stuff is described:
- discussion of the different governors (smartass/smoothass/performance/...)
- discussion of the methods for overclocking (is NoFrills the only/preferred way to set overclocking, or are there better tools?)
thanks for pointing me in the right direction...

Hi Drythe,
I don't know if there's a FAQ around here for that. As far as OC apps are concerned I've only used SetCPU which is free for download at its XDA thread. I guess NoFrills does the same as SetCPU but I've never tried it out as I never needed to. If you're using CM7 and you have CM's submenu under settings you can even set there the min/max CPU frequencies, the governor and the set-on-boot option. That's the standard options. SetCPU also gives you the possibility of defining min/max/governor profiles for a number of different scenarios (battery percentage or temperature;screen on/off, etc.) As for a way of setting the OC, any one of them is enough and none will give you better OC per se, of course
Choose the one you like the most and use it, it won't make a difference on the OC.
About the governors, some of them are self-explanatory (conservative, powersave, performance,...), some of them may not be. You'd be better off googling for the specific governor you want to know about and reading some results about it.
If you have the time and compile that information into a new thread, the better.
Happy OCing!
Cheers!

Yes yes yes...
By the way, Smoothass appears to be a very elusive target. I'm using it but couldn't find any info
Smoothass is an improved smartass. The way it scales between the frequencies was changed but mantains the smartass original concept. From what I reckon, smoothass is the advisable one to use.
Cheers.
is smoothass an improved smartass like said above?

Voltage settings reset after reboot...

Long time lurker... so I've done a lot of reading on this, but haven't seen anyone have the same problem I'm having so I'm curious if anyone can offer any insight.
I'm using the glitch 11.1 kernel running cyanogen mod 7 build 10.
Any time I set my CPU and OC it changes the IO settings, the CPU governor, OR undervolt the dif cpu states, they ALL reset after a reboot.
I've tried the kernel wiper script, and I've edited the kernel zip with the added script posted in the Glitch thread that'll make the CPU governor stay set... nothing seems to work.
This has happened ever since I started using CM7. The only way I can get the CPU state to stay set is to use the built in CPU governor in the CYNMODSETTING Performance section... but that doesn't help me with the undervolt.
Can anyone offer any insight? Am I overlooking something here? ****s killing me lol
EDIT: BTW... I hit "APPLY CHANGES" and "Save as boot settings" of course... just in case you all were wondering.
Thank you for posting in the right section!
You are using the voltage control app correct?
I just tested this on my phone. I am running the low version of the kernel (lucky phone I guess) and after a reboot my settings are still the same.
Maybe it is the type of glitch kernel you are using?
Try one of the others he has in the link and see if that fixes it. Worth a shot.
I am also assuming your using the recommended voltage control or pimp my CPU correct?

setting the cpu/govener/voltages now we have DoomKernel :D

hi all
now we have the doomkernel we can finaly play with the setttins
started this thread so we all can share the setting and foor noobies like myself share them so other can do their bennefit with them
I tried all the three apps..
setcpu; works damn fast but cant realy set the govenor ( not that i can figure out lol) maby some1 can help, great ics-theme
nofrill; makes my phone go cracy with reboots...but has the new cool thing that you can watch the batt-use like cpuspy.
incredicontrole; nice app you can set cpu, govenor and the voltages. but seems to give a little lagg
all of these set min/max to 192 - 1728 (seems like the standaard doom made it run with his kernel.)
smartassv2
cfq if possible
dont know how it works with the voltages..do i set them all lower ore just a few?
maby some1 already figured it out and can share..
hopefully this way the thread of the kernel keeps at developing an here the how to aply
I was using SetCpu which I had purchased and was causing a restarts on smartassv2
Bummer.
yesterday i tried al 3 of them and decidet to stick with setcpu...but after deleting the other my setcpu forced on demand evry time and couldnt get it back to smartass ore smartassv2..
i think maby all these apps are storing some kinda settings in the rom itself wich keep interfeering with the settings,
will try a fresh flash an keep just 1 without triying the other....
tried all, use incredicontrol - for a balance of power and battery, the best combo is ondemand with noop

[Q] SetCPU and S3

Hi everyone,
This is the first time owning a Samsung device, so the pegasusq governor is a new thing to me, I read about what it actually is on a thread but I wanted to ask to fellow S3 owners what are they using for great battery life - performance ratio?
I'm running Omega 6.0, slipstreamed loads of crap that is not needed (from the "safe to remove" thread) with Apex Launcher. I'm only using 2 homescreens, dark wallpaper, etc, the typical works to try and improve battery life.
Now the thing is, with SetCPU I'm running the default pegasusq governor ranging from 200mhz -1400mhz. Is the pegasusq governor the right choice here? Isn't it basically a variant of the OnDemand governor but Samsung proprietary for quadcore CPUs? I also recall reading a mention of S3's freezing or not waking up when it's set from the lowest underclocking point (200mhz), is that right? I've been using this for a few hours and no problems yet, but just wanted to know what are everyone elses experiences and what's the best configuration that has worked individually for you!
Cheers! Hope I complied with the rules, I did do a search but didn't find anything of this nature apart from a few separate questions!
I use the same governor, 100Mhz - 1704Mhz. No issues. Works great.
Siyah kernel is using pegasusq so i think it is the best governer there is. if you're on stock kernel or lowest underclocking is 200mhz but in custom kernels you can use 100mhz.
I have set my SetCPU to 100mhz - 1200mhz and undervolting all 18-steps to -50mv. I seldom reboot my phone but not encounter any freeze on boot
You should try tweaks for improving the battery life and peformance. Like supercharger, zipalling , random build.prop tweaks.... Etc xD but yeah use the samsungs "for quad core"
Thank you for the prompt replies everyone!
I remember with my Desire the whole development community was pretty much "set in stone" if you will, so it was really easy to choose a kernel etc.
Is there a kernel that you recommend? Is anyone using a "Screen Off" profile without any problems? If so what's the range you have it set at? That's what I was mostly scared as I remember on my Desire the lockscreen or taking calls would lag quite a bit but obviously this is a different beast altogether!
I'm also using AutoKiller Memory with Extreme Settings and some tweaks applied as well.
I use Siyah clocked 100-1704 screen on. 100-300 screen off. No issues.

I set mine to 100-600 not having any issues, when reiveng notification/phone calls doesn't lag at all. Just don't use "power saving" option.

3rd party apps don't to any good to battery life it only consumes more(for me) cause it's always running in your background which consumes memory and also battery life.
stock task manager is pretty good, been use it always. Closing all apps and clearing memory

Nah, Autokiller isnt a task manager.
Basically, Android automatically kills empty processes (etc) at specified RAM levels. It does this anyway. But on High end RAM packed devices, these values are too low to be of any use as the phone will seldom hit that low a level of free RAM.
Autokiller simply adjusts these values to be more useful for high end devices.
Actually, you don't need autokiller to do this. You can do it in an init.d script although I've not tested this on the SGS3 as I haven't seen a need.
Here is an example I wrote for my Desire AOSP ROM:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
echo "8192,16384,19200,23040,25600,30720" > /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree
Default SGS3 is:
Code:
8192, 10240, 12288, 14336, 16387, 25600
These are for:
Foreground App, Visible App, Secondary Server, Hidden App, Content Provider, Empty App

[Discussion] Best Settings in Spicy kernel by DyWN for best performance in Games?

I don't know much about CPU Governors, IO Schedulers, TCP etc.
Can any pro please explain these things?
Is there any better governor than Performance?
And what are other things? How do they affect the performance? I am a noob so please explain it as simple as you can
And if possible please give best settings for Games like injustice 2.
Thank you.
I am sure many others will also have these questions.
Thanks in Advance
Just change the cpu governor to interactive and change the cpu frequencies as u like this should be enough for you as u have just begun.. Later u your self will learn how to do it.. ? leave the rest settings as it is, for now at least.
