wt19a kernal rom compatibility - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

hi.
i have a "lww". im root. my model is wt19a 4.0.4 build 4.1.B.0.431 kernel [email protected] # 1.
can i flash any kernal for my phone? if no, does it have to be compatible by build or model?

First of all to install custom kernel You need to unlock bootloader. Not every phone can be unlocked, cause it depends if Your phone's bootloader unlock status is yes or no. You can check this in service menu (in dialer tap *#*#7378423#*#* [ *#*#SERVICE#*#* ] ) and go to Service Info and Configuration. There should be rooting status.
It's also good to make .FTF files from Your ROM to use them in flashtool BEFORE any modifications. Just in case http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075736

Thanks for the reply.
my bootloader says yes. now i thought the whole thing witht the bootloader was for rooting. like i mentioned before i am rooted. i have already made a backup of my stock rom if thats what you mean by making my own .ftf file. dude where is the thank you button?

Nope, rooting Your device will give You access to system partition, but it doesn't allow to change kernels.
Backup in .zip is fine, but I suggest to make a .ftf. It will help You to "unbrick" Your phone if something bad happen (cause if it's problem with ROM U have to flash any working ROM anyway, but if U unlock Your bootloader SUS and PC Companion won't work, so the only solution is to flash it using flashtool). Also .ftf will allow You to revert software to stock one, with branding, customization etc. (if U would like to use warranty for any purpose stock ROM and branding are necessary).
So if bootloader unlock status is yes - then U are able to unlock Your bootloader and install any custom kernel. Check this thread, it will help You with everything. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2148684

i found that thread last night thats why i posted this question.
my boot loader says yes. i also flashed cwm using recoverx.
just to be sure. with my phone software the i mentioned above ^^. using lets say flashtool i can flash any kernal rom combination even if it .587, or for lets say or the wt19i?
thanks again for the help.

No, not every combination will work And flashtool is used to repair phone, not to flash custom ROMs. There are some ROMs working on stock kernel (which U have now) - mainly based on stock .431 or .587 software. U can flash them using recovery (which U have now). To be honest I don't know what are the differences between wt19i and wt19a. But as a experiment (lol) I flashed baseband from SK17a into my SK17i and everything was ok. That's why I told U to create a ftf package, which will allow U to flash stock ROM if something went wrong.
So, for now:
If U would like install any ICS ROM (based on original Sony .431 or .587 compilation - You can try it right away.
If U would like to flash CyanogenMod ROMs (CM7.2 [android 2.x GingerBread], CM9 [android 4.0.x IceCreamSandwich], CM10 [android 4.1 JellyBean], CM10.1 [android 4.2 JellyBean], CM10.2 [android 4.3 JellyBean] ) and other based on it, U will have to unlock bootloader at the first place and then flash kernel suitable for Your device (LWW is coded as coconut) and then flash ROM.

im sorry i asked so much. as your aware im a noob. till now i only rooted/flashed a galaxy 5 (not s5). it was so easy.
i assume im going to use cwm to flash the kernel, am i wrong?
if not a tutorial link will be fine and ive got all the points. and this is one hard phone to customize. but i wanted the 1.ghz processor.
thank you like in a big way man.

CWM is used to backup Your ROM and install custom ROMs. To flash kernel U will have to use fastboot mode, and it has nothing in common with CWM. Check this thread, 2nd post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730874

hi again. sorry last question. i installed flashtool. when innstalling the flashtool driver i cant find LWW in the list.
what did this noob do wrong??? lol

If U'r trying to install one of d latest FT just install fastboot and flash drivers (2 last options as far as I remeber) and that's it.

Thanks in advance...
I didnt try only kernel, but I try custom MINICM7-2.2.0 based on GB 2.3.7 and it is like new phone reBORN, fast&stable.
Sort off, yes
Check this
For stock kernel
The links are dead.. Downloading of x8gesture.ko not working.

In that case, there are a few froyo-based roms (srom-froyo, froyobread) that include this particular module, don't know if those links are still working, try to search the x10mini development forum to find them

Do they require unlocking of bootloader .Actually I am afraid of this purpose. Is there any GB rom that can be flashed without unlocking bootloader on stock kernel 2.6.29 Thanks for Help.
You only need to unlock your bootloader if you need a custom kernel.
All the froyo roms run on the stock kernel, so they can be installed without unlocking the bootloader.
GB roms all run on a custom kernel (on the x10Mini), so you need to unlock the bootloader for that.
If you get S1Tool and post the output, i could probably provide you with some guidance on the safety of unlocking

Yeah !! in the output It shows SEMC something with capital R . Actually date is 10w29. Flashtool is big file and I have a slow connection... Smthng else for unlocking bootloader
it should say semc-simlock certificate, and 10w29 is ok too. you can get the manual scripts for unlocking the bootloader in a slightly smaller package, but the point about unlocking the bootloader is to install a custom kernel... you will need flashtool for that... lol.
I would say, try one of the froyo roms if they're still available, i'm pretty sure froyobread with the hotfix can be downloaded and they can be installed on the stock kernel. but then, those are big downloads too on a slow connection

You're welcome
Array. I've unlocked the bootloader and I have xrecovery on my phone. I also have put GB miniCM rom as update.zip on SD card
Now the problem is on GB thread it said that I should have naA kernel on my phone and on naA kernel thread it said that I should have GB custom rom. I have only unlocked the bootloader and still on stock rom and stock kernel.,
once again its ur turn to sort me out of this problem...
:-D
First you flash the nAa kernel using flashtool
Then flash the rom through cwm
Sent from my E10i using xda premium
Bro I have gone one step ahead and have installed cloclwordmod .. now I am flashing the naA kernel... But what after flashing the kernel if I start my phone do I have to first enter in CWM and flash new minicm7 rom or I can use this kernel on my stock rom 2.1
Go into CWM and install MiniCM, stock will not boot on the nAa kernel.

1)Locked or Unlocked Bootloader?
2)Which stock kernel you flashed? Downloaded from?
3)[If Locked Bootloader] Can you enter xrecovery? If can, make full wipe, clear cache partition, install new ROM via "install custom zip from SDcard.
4)[If Unlocked Bootloader] Try flash some custom Kernel for Unlocked bootloader like DooMKernel, see whether it reach recovery mode or not.

Need Little Help

Hey guys,I own optimus one and I m used to rooting and stuff but my brother owns xperia mini pro so I need to install cyanogenmod (9 or10) whichever is stable.I had gone through various guides and stickies yet I want to be dead sure that I don't mess up my brothers handset. Its kinda new coz bootloader needs to be unlocked and also kernel image needed to be flashed separately unlike in optimus one.
Now I want help of you guys in the following manner like:-
1. My brothers mini pro is on ICS 4.1.B.0.587 and the rooting tutorial provided here for the said firmware
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119?start=0&tstart=0 is not clear to me coz it says that first I need to install some kernel [only mini mentioned here] then next I need to flash another kernel according to firmware. Can someone explain what is being done in this and why rooting is so complicated in this.
2. Certain ROM's say that you need to flash kernel first using flashtool
My query is that all ROM's that I flashed till now on optimus one included kernel and I only needed to flash ROM zip through cwm.. So do I need to flash kernel everytime I flash ROM!! and isn't there flashable zip for kernel too!!
3. FXP ROM's do not contain things like what's working and what's not, it only has issue tracker so it become difficult for new comer to know the bugs in ROM. Can anyone tell me the least bugs cm9 & cm10 ROM and what are the bugs present.
4. Lastly, should I proceed like this!!
i. Root device (though method isn't clear to me)
ii. unlock bootloader
iii. install cwm (I guess I can do this using flashtool)
iv. backup current ROM along with kernel (for future use,I know its optional)
v. flash kernel using flashtool
vi. flash ROM through cwm.
I m a quick learner and I just need some guidance on this new device (double checking coz its my bro's device) . Looking forward for support. Thanks

You needn't root first if you want to unlock bl, just unlock bl and flash a custom kernel (in most custom kernels cwm is included).
Backup your rom and install the rom...
hmmm....
1. Unlock Bootloader........
2. Flash Custom Kernel (all custom kernel is per-rooted and have CWM).......
3. Boot into CWM and Flash CM9 or CM10 (factory format/wipe dalvik/cache).....
4. Boot into Fastboot And Flash FXP kernel for CM9 or CM10.....
xperia phones aren't like sammy, lg or htc where recovery is a separate partition from kernel. in fact, by default xperia phones doesn't even have "stock recovery" like on other phone. by that we integrate cwm in kernel ramdisk.
and to answer the question:
1- flash custom kernel mean't for your phone only, never ever flash kernel intended for other phone. and its done via fastboot and should be flashed before flashing rom.
2- like i said u can't compare xperia phone with other phone like sammy etc, its different. kernel must be flash via fastboot.
3- for cm10, bugs that i notice is slow accelerator, but fixable with some text editing, and non working front camera for lww and minipro.
4- should be like this, according to order:
- unlock bootloader.
- flash kernel via fastboot.
- boot into cwm.
- backup rom if u want.
- wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. don't wipe system partition or u will get error when flashing rom later.
- flash rom, and gapps if its cm/aokp/pa rom.
- profit :good:
thank you guys.... this made me clear...
one last thing :- which kernel should I flash on stock 4.1.B.0.587 which is pre rooted and have cwm after unlocking bootloader.I mean the one compatible with above firmware and also do I need to do anything with baseband or will it be compatible. After this m ready to enter the custom xperia world
Remember to backup your stock rom before unlocking the bootloader as everything will be wiped clear.

[Q] Custom Rom's

I did a search but did not exactly what I wanted.
Have a few questions in mind:
1.Can I Flash any custom Rom with my stock kernel?
2.Will doing the above cause any problems?(brick, bootloops, buggy rom)
3.Also unlocking the bootloader(is it necessary? Please a Noob here)via the official method(sk17i)I heard we would loose access to certain company features(track.id etc)would I loose access to official update of firmware from them?
4.Most of the Rom's featured here have not specified which kernel to be used with them could anyone suggest one which can handle most Rom's?

Please read the sticked threads, everything should be explained there
1. Yes, custom roms for locked bootloader
2. It can cause bricks or bootloops, roms where something's not working can be buggy
3. Unlocking the bootloader is necessary for nearly all custom roms like Cyanogenmod, AOKP, etc. You will loose your DRM (who needs them?) and track id won't work, but if you download the latest version it should work! You can't update via PC Companion, but you can flash official updates using flashtool :good:
4. All the kernels like Rage Kernel, kernel panic, x kernel, if you look in the kernel thread there should be explained for which software version they are...
That's it, but should be explained in the sticked thread, too

i would suggest u nt to use Sony PC companion after rooting, unlocking BL as FOTA updates may brick ur device
(when u unlock BL its quoted there that not to do FOTA update after unlocking BL)
I dont know it brick device or nt bt why take risk?
Did u make a cwm backup??? If yes just restore it or flash the official ftf using flashtool....
I think I may have BRICKED it!!....stuck at SE logo at start-up cant enter CM recovery!!....I did make a backup in the SD card but since I could not enter recovery no use. I tried to flash the official firmware via PC(flashtool) but it says USB debugging is disabled!
Have I officially BRICKED my device? is there any way to get back to the good old GB and stock Rom?:crying::crying::crying:

Dude, you have indeed provided very less info. Looks like you have soft-bricked your phone. This same thing had happened to me few days back. Please read on to see what helped me get my Neo V up and running again.
If your phone is stuck at SONY logo, I doubt it will go into CWM recovery mode either. I had tried flashing stock kernel through Flashtool, and also tried the FOTA-Unbrick method via flashtool, but even that didn't help. Finally, I used the "repair" option in PC Companion which flashed Stock ICS ROM on my Neo V (however, all data on phone's internal memory was lost and my phone had to e rooted again). But at least my phone was recovered. Hope this will guide you.

Some roms need unlocked bootloaders like sense port rom... Xperia hd I am guessing as ultimate hd rom...it doesn't need unlocked bl... make sure you follow all steps like wiping etc... for roms like sense port or cyanogen you will need to unlock bl...
buggy!!!

I believe, the ROMS you flashed were Stock kernel based and hence it worked.
To try different custom ROMS which are based on custom kernels, u need a unlocked BOOTLOADER.
Type *#*#7378423#*#* and Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, you can unlock your bootloader IT DOESNT MEAN YOUR BOOTLOADER IS UNLOCKED if status shows NO, you cannot unlock it and no custom roms based on custom kernels.

Dude plz tell me the steps for installing unofficial roms. And tell me why it goes to bricked and 1 more thing that i installed official rom ics 4.0.4 through flash tool
Unlock with testpoint if you do not want to break your DRM: androidflip.com/unlock-xperia-phones-bootloader-without-losing-drm-data-track-id-working/
Then download Flashtool (Google, it is first link). Put custom rom zip anywhere on sd card. Extract boot.img from zip and put it on desktop or anywhere on hdd. Download gapps 20121011 from goo.im. Connect phone in fastboot mode (hold right menu key while plugging USB and led should be blue). Press lighting button and select fastboot mode. Flash kernel (browse to boot.img). Reboot phone and keep pressing volume down until recovery mode shows up. Do full wipe (data, cache, dalvik cache). Then select install zip from file. Install ROM and then gapps then reboot. Some ROMs may require reboot again in recovery before installing gapps. First boot can take a while so be patient. If you still don't get it, read pinned topics, for some ROMs there is also quick tip how to do install. Good luck.

Sam,
You need unlocked BL for flashing custom ROMs. Its obvious you also should have ROOT and CWM installed(I believe you do have these already )
1)Type *#*#7378423#*#* and Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status.
If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, you can unlock your bootloader( IT DOESNT MEAN YOUR BOOTLOADER IS UNLOCKED) if status shows NO, you cannot unlock it and no custom roms which are based on custom kernels.
2) If BL status is YES --> Try to unlock it.. 2 ways are there
1.Sony Official method CLICK HERE (You lose DRM values, warrenty is VOID)--> i unlocked my mobile officially
2.Unofficial TEST point method (Nothing to lose, but manual work needed) --> my mobile dint support this way since it was manufactured in 12w15 and official unlock is only way.
LINK TO BOOTLOADER UNLOCK THREAD I strongly recommend you to read the Bootloader thread first to understand what it is actually.
after unlocking by the any of the ways, you can flash ROMS and kernels of your wish..

my problem is very simple.

then through that i installed XPERIA ULTIMATE HD or any ROM
my mobile restart and hanged (freeze) at SONY logo
so can any expert tell me that how to install jelly bean ROM or unofficial rom
with easy or what i does wrong in above step
and tell me that is kernel is responsible for this or not????????
please help me i want to taste JELLY BEAN
what is the difference between 4.1.b.0.431 and 4.1.B.0.587 in flash tool file and which is require to clearified my above problem HELp Me PlEaSe !!!!!!!!!!
Of course. You didn't read my post, did you? Kernel (usually named boot.img) is in zip of every custom rom. I described you how to flash kernel with Flash Tool. It is not the same procedure as on Galaxy phone where all work can be done from cwm. You should see e.g. FreeXperia logo if you have flashed CyanogenMod and appropiate kernel.

If all done like root boot unlock etc.. Yu can install any room that is developed for yur phne..
Steps:
First, Install kernel of the Rom(boot.img) from the custom Rom zip (extract boot.img to yur pc) thrugh fastbootmode using flash tool.
Then boot, and try entering CMW mode and flash corresponding Rom..
Also make sure u clear the cache and things that have been told in the Rom installion procedure.
