I want to use a more customizable launcher, but really like the s planner widget. Is it possible to get this working with another launcher, or is it kind of 'built in' to touch wiz?
You don't get the option to add the widget on any launchers I've tried and can't find a better, or as good as 3rd party calender.
Thanks

thanks. eon

No it appears to be built in to touchwiz

Yes I too like the S Planner widget especially the tasks widget however I'm using Apex launcher.
Anyone found out yet how to port this?
Or.... is there a way to make Touch wiz launcher 5x4 in portrait?
Thanks heaps
Hey guys I'm new to the galaxy :silly: I have an s2 i9100 and touchwiz for me ranks as one of the worst UIs I have ever used (motoblur is my top hate).
but the two things I really liked was the S Planner app and widget, I even copied the 3 related apks from the phone before I switched to miui. now I wish I new a way to get them working but I wouldn't be very good at it and I probably would stuff it up some how.
I've been trying to get pure calendar widgets to work in the same way as the s planner widget (the widget is all I want).
I'll upload the 3 apks if anyone is interested but with all my research the sad fact is no touchwiz no S Planner widget :crying:
by the way if anyone out there knows how to get just a basic month view setup with the pure calendar widget can you please help me?
I don't want
scrolly nonsense
current day/week at top
timeline view confabulary
100000000 widget sizes
I just want
show current month with tap to view next previous month
show upcoming events from my synced calendars (google)
tap on day to view that days events.
thanks for your time.
First, I'm not a developer (any more), just a novice user of a Nexus 10.
I've been playing with various widgets, putting them on the home screen & building groups of apps to keep the screen simple,
so I can actually see my wallpaper. (Nothing special, just pics I like.)
Problem is that huge Google bar at the top. Is there an simple way to get rid of it, like the select-drag-drop for other home screen stuff.?
Also, there seems to be some limits on where I can actually put apps or widgets. Is there a way to adjust this too?
I'd really like to put a dashboard widget in place of that Google bar.
Finally, is there a way to disable Google when I select or swipe nearby the bottom of the screen?
This is a real pain-in-the-patootie when playing solitaire & the cards get near the bottom of the screen.
Thanks in advance. I could not find this anywhere in the Q&A forum for Android.
Try a different launcher, like nova, which will allow you to disable the persistent search bar.
Ok, what' a "launcher"?

Sounds helpful, if I knew what a launcher is.
I am soooooo out of date re: computers of any kind anymore...
Just go on google play and search "launcher"! It is the app which launches other apps, provides the app drawer, and many other setting options, like how pages scroll, etc.
Thanks!
Thanks for the info. I'll go see whats I can find, & come back here to make sure its a good one.
Root file manager under system then apps. Look for Google search bar and add .back at end then restart phone

Sounds good, a real engineering solution instead of a workaround (not that there is anything wrong with a workaround).
How to I get to the root file system to modify filenames?
I'm on a Nexus 10. Any idea what app/widget/setting function to use?
I've got "androzip" which let's me see the file system down to a certain point ( /.) & shows a bunch of folders,
but crashes when I try to see what's in the folder named "root"
Suggested launcher?

Which one is best/most reliable/free-or-cheap?
If I muck this thing up, Duh Hubby will get really upset!
I know there is/was a list of recommended apps & widgets, but can't find the thread now. Don't know if it mentioned a launcher anyway.
Thanks again!

I just now realized that you suggest a launcher here... Doh!
The other suggestion about changing s filename may be good too. I suspect a launcher will be safer for me.
Yes, using a launcher is better. Otherwise you'd have to unlock the bootloader of Nexus 10, which will wipe all your data, then set it up all over again and restore backed up data, then get into the root filesystem and modify the file name of the app file, which can be too much since you say you're not experienced (unless you're interested in learning to do all that) The app is called QuickSearchBox.apk btw not GoogleSearchBox.apk.
Also, custom launchers like Nova and Apex launcher look exactly the same as the default launcher you're using right now, but have a boatload of additional features a lot of which you may find interesting and useful. The default (stock) launcher is very basic in functionality.

Much nicer than Android basic, more "toys" to play with & no Google bar at the top!
I even learned what a home screen actually is & have set up several for different uses.
Another fun time waster to play with beyond just games... would be nice to set
different wallpaper for each screen, but being able to actually see the whole
image is really nice.
I think I'll get the Pro version to get rid of other Google launch with the sweep/touch near
the bottom of screen- the answer to the second part of my original question.
Thanks to all who replied... I feel like such a noon at this point. These forums are truly the best place
to find/get answers to basics questions. The Help provided by Google is distinctly lacking in detail.
Now to search for answers to more questions....
damn. the stock launcher is actually pretty nice on the hydro edge at least for my pop but I want that damned google bar gone (BUT WANT google search and google now) I just want the stupid useless homescreen bar gone (its too small for him to use he can't hit the mic icon reliably) so I just put a regular voice search icon on the screen for him.
Grrr I hate when they "shove" things down your throat like that.

Agree with you
Is there any way to go into system and delete it all together?
You can't delete system apps unless you are rooted, which if you have a nexus device than this is super easy
Yes as mentioned before the simple fix is just use another launcher, there are many amazing ones to pick from often with a free version that works great
As for removing the bar from the stock launcher the easiest way would be to decompile the .apk and find the xml file for it and chances are change a simple bit of code from true to false but without ever decompiling this myself can't say how its set up. But in truth this may be more work than it is worth

Hope I don't get shot for this, however, I am in need of some advice to help me get iPhone style notifications on stock sense Rom. For example, right now I can only get notifications from the android mail app but not Google mail app or my touchdown mail app. my text messages do show up, but I can't make it show the name of sender but hide content. It either hides both or none. Phone is rooted, is there any program that lets me do this without removing the stock Rom? If I have to flash a other Rom to get this level of customization, which Rom and subsequent mod would you suggest. This is the only thing I don't like about this phone.

There's a lot of lock screen apps but i don't think they have shortcuts like that. Also they don't usually work well.

Those lockscreen apps tend to drain battery too.

Yes, exactly. I couldnt find one that just works and works well.

I use to use widget locker. I never really noticed it killing my battery.
Hi, I'm using Nova Launcher and wanted to use the Sony Movie Widget that is scrollable, but I can't find it in my widget list.
When I start the Sony UI, the widget is already placed on one of my homecreens.
Does anybody know, how this widget is used under Nova Launcher?
This isn't a ZU issue, so my guess is that it will be much easier to get a real answer in the Nova thread.

This is common, it happen in all brand phone. Certain specific widget design by manufacture only work in it own home launcher not the third party launcher.

If you want a widget that shows movies (not videos shot with the camcorder), get Moviebrowser uPnP.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adree.moviebrowser.upnp&hl=en
It is a really nice movie browser (as you can see on the screenshots) and the widget is also elegant.
When it comes to widgets showing photos etc, the selection is just huge. I haven't checked it lately but I use Photo Grid/Frame Widget sometimes.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gzplanet.photogridwidget&hl=en
I am also a Nova user since I upgraded to ICS and I don't miss the OEM widgets at all since there are so many options and I just prefer to use the third party ones since I can have the same setup regardless of device or ROM.
Hey guys,
I have an international htc one x+ running stock 4.2.2 not unlocked not rooted.
I have widget lockscreen enabled with brilliant quotes applied as the widget. Now when i play music from the htc music app the lockscreen gets the small 4x1 music widget to switch tracks through lockscreen. This is all fine when am using the htc sense as the default launcher.
But for some reason when i use Aviate or themer beta and play my tracks from these launchers or even access the music app from these launchers the music widget no longer appears on the lockscreen or when it does it just not responds. This also happens when i use the dashlock extension.
Its getting pretty annoying because i want to try these launchers and extensions
Any help would be appreciated greatly. Thanks. Cheers!

I think you should ask the developers of these tools. I'm sure you are not the only one facing this problem, so I'm sure they can help you more.
I was having trouble with a few launchers so i assumed it was a one x+ bug.. :/
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk
Of course it can be a bug made by HTC. They heavily changed some Android code and thanks to it now we have "bugs for free". For example, the default android widget lockscreen allows you to place many widgets on the screen. HTC's modification allows only one widget + it will be hidden if there is no network, low battery or music being played .
You should still ask the app developers about this. Maybe they will at least response "yeah we know it. Blame htc".

Yeah! That whole widget limit thing really sucks. [emoji53]
I have dropped a question to the themer team just waiting for a reply.
I was just wondering if anyone else has the same problem. [emoji21]

But if you want to change the music track which is actually playing... Why even unlock the screen? I saw some apps for controlling the music player without unlocking the screen like "wave a hand over the phone to change the track" or "use volume buttons to switch songs".
