Best way to turn wifi on automatically - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im looking for a good way to turn on wifi automatically when im at home or another certain location..
Until now ive been using juice defender, but its outdated and causes alot of wakelocks and doesnt work anymore like it should work..
So im looking for an app or something else which doesnt cause alot of wakelocks and works decently.
Thanks in advance guys!

No

I use juicedefender ultimate... Works perfect to me!

Tasker is a perfectly safe and stable application.
also, if you're interested in on-location-change automated actions, i suggest to use llama (free alternative to tasker, but much inferior. Although it might just do it for you...)

Thanks man will give both a try

Tasker, most definitely.
I use it to turn on my Wi-Fi when I get near to University, then mute everything when I connect to it's SSID. I can also use it to turn on Airplane mode when I'm in lectures on a schedule. I don't have to do anything. The GPS can drain battery a little, but if you set the polling to a decent rate (every 30 minutes?) it cna be minimalised. Plus I can charge while I'm there.

App to see Temperature

Is there any app which can show you the Temperature of Xperia S, because every app i tried doesn´t work.
Even SetCpu shows 0°C.
Widgetsoid > https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jim2
Or the Elixir app which is similar and free.
-smc
Thank you both, but i didn´t find the Temperature in "Widgetsoid2.x".
Elixir2 worked for me.
I use "System Info Widget" by Jason Calhoun (there are more apps with the same name)

I use Badass Battery. It shows an icon, temp, time left till next charge in statusbar.

I had an outdated Version of "System Info widget". Now it works for me too.
Does the "Time left" function of Badass Battery work right? I had a Battery widget that displayed over an hour when Battery wad at 20%. ..
Temp+Cpu
I use it since X10

Thank you for your help, but Is there no app displaying the cpu Temp?

Is the CPU temperature even reported by the OS (without root anyway)?
I haven't seen it yet, just battery temp.
All you need is the battery temp, this is the one that shows how hot the cpu is too!
So the cpu is near the Battery?
Btw. my phone is rooted, so if there is an app that can Display that needs root access i could try it
Probably no. I'm not 100% sure but I think the S3 doesn't allow outside access to the temperature sensor. Again I might be wrong, read the datasheet.

Galaxy S3 Won't stop talking

I've disabled driving mode but my phone keeps reading off everything on screen. (Emails, facebook, etc). I've tried rebooting... powering down. Nothing works. Anyone ever encounter such a problem?
Settings- accessibility - uncheck talk back.? Might work.

[APP] Fast Dormancy Toggle

Since I posted my fast dormancy hack (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018894) I've noticed two things:
Many people report better battery life
Some people have trouble applying it
So, I spent 20 minutes putting together an app that toggles this setting. It achieves the same thing as mentioned in the referenced thread, but should not require root (can't test that as I'm rooted). It's virtually untested, so please report issues.
Instructions:
* Install & launch
* Status: line shows current status
* Use buttons to enable/disable
* Reboot after changing setting
I hope this will help someone.
Source: https://github.com/jonasl/LGOG_FD_Toggle
I know I should Google it but...when does fast dormancy effect the phone? I am on a fringe LTE/4g area. If I am on the road its LTE most of the time. Does it effect everyone with the device?
Sent from my EVO using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
This FD setting only affects you when you're on HSPA networks. It doesn't affect when your phone will be on a specific network or anything like that. It doesn't change any radio setting, all it does it disable a periodic wakeup which can drain the battery.
It will not help everyone equally. The only way to know is to test with your conditions. If it doesn't help you, revert (enable) and move along.
You rock. I'll report after some testing to see how it works.
Thanks for making this foolproof.

I installed it and when I opened the app it said the status was already 'Enabled". Did I need to set it after installing, or does the install/startup do that the first time?

It's enabled by default, the whole point of this hack is disabling it. So what you're seeing is expected
So should this be enabled or disabled for it to do its thing?

This is why I haven't posted on xda for a couple of years until this week. Guess it's time to go somewhere else for good. Sigh.
What's wrong with reading the linked description?
It's supposed to be Disabled...
With your phone at default settings (you didn't edit it manually already), it should be Enabled.
Press 'Disabled' and restart your phone. Boys and manuals/directions..
The hack is DISABLE Fast Dormancy. So why would you Enable it? xD Just sayin.

I've been on XDA long enough to know how to do sh!t. The description states it allows you to enable or disable. I was confused. Excuse me for trying to gain an understanding.

Shouldnt this be in Themes & Apps being this is not a kernel, rom or recovery? maybe if you stuck around for those 2 years, you would know where to post apps.
MODS PLEASE MOVE

I already reported it a couple days ago, I don't know why it hasn't moved. My report got the PimpMyRom thread moved but this one is still here :-x
This has made a huge difference in my battery life. Thank you.

Hi!
Is this a LG specific app?
AFAUK is that sqlite file the same among other devices?
Thanks.
EDIT: On my sonyericsson I have a "Fast Dormancy manager" dedicated app; If I freeze it fd seems to not generate wakeups (as I said here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830612)
Huge Thanks to you!!! Better battery life and Jellybean will make this phone the best out of the ones out there. :good::good:

any kernel in stock ROM that supports TOUCHWAKE ?

any kernel in stock ROM that supports TOUCHWAKE ?
if anyone who comes from Galaxy Nexus, then should know that there is some useful apps such as P2GM that able to wake screen by simply touch the screen instead of hit power/home button.
i brought eXperience Pro from Ezekeel (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=aperture.ezekeel.experiencepro) , this app works on AOKP ROM , but everytime i try to use it , system will crash and reboot.
i guess something wrong with kernel or so ...
i am testing all kernel that i could find in DEV section, but still didn't find compatible one ...
any suggestions ?
Siyah kernel has this option when you activate it in Stweaks its called slide2wake.

I took your advice amd installed siyah kernel 1.8.4
That slide2wake feature is great
But I found that it is not working every time
After the screen is off for about 2 minutes, it stops working
Any advice?
Thanks
P.s. I had searched for numerous forums regarding siyah kernel, I can't find a solution. ...

It just doesn't work very well at the moment. It's a beta feature and unfortunately the best you can do is wait and see if it gets improved. You could try using soft locker on the play store as well as slide 2 wake that might help but it'll kill your battery

Touchwizz force closing

Hi guys,
I recently bought an galaxy s3,
After setting it up the way I wanted it to,
Everytime I download something from the Google play Store, and exit it afterwards,
Touchwizz force closes...
Is there someone else with this problem?
Or does someone have a solution?
It's not a big problem but rather irritating!
Thanks!

if you don't mind to set up your screens again. You can try to delete touchwiz data in the apps manager.
Maybe it will solve the problem.
I had an issue with touchwiz freezing sometime, but it was before to upgrade to Jelly Bean.
Otherwise you can install Nova Launcher to replace touchwiz.
