I've had a problem in the the last week my note has started to shutdown when the battery gets low. It does fine until it gets to the point where the battery shows yellow and then it just shuts off. There's no notification like normal or anything to let me know it's going to happen. I thought it was the battery so I bought a new one and it does the same thing. I thought maybe something corrupted the rom so I wiped it and reflashed fresh WITHOUT using a backup and it still happens. I starting to think it's a hardware issue has anyone else ran into this?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You still haven't ruled out software if you flashed the SAME Rom/kernel.
assuming the rom is fine, download isn't corrupt, and you flash it properly... Do you do batt calibration and or wiping batt stats? update recovery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The roms fine I used it for a long time with no issues. What is the best app for battery calibration
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Charging it to full for longer than you might normally would do more than any app....
The os wipes the stats each time the battery is charged fully, and are only used to display usage in the battery section of the settings menu. They do not actually effect power consumption at all.
I usually try to run the battery down before bed so it can charge overnight and it still just shuts off. I'm really starting to believe it's a hardware issue. Like the phone doesn't recognize where the battery level is correctly
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Try cleaning the battery contacts with a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol.
Probably won't help... but does no damage to try.
OK thanks

Thats a rogue app causing the high android sys.
+1, I've seen this on 2 handsets.
Using GSam Battery Monitor, then clicking on app usage ->android system -> manage -> clear defaults
The above seems to stop the issue after a reboot. I've not seen it happen again since I did that.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but 9hrs and 47% left doesn't seem like a problem... if you take your phone and leave it on (with screen off) and wait until it dies then charge and turn on you will see that the "system" eats almost all your battery. There is nothing wrong with your phone unless you used it a ton and the system still eats all your battery which If that is the case and it's been 9 hours and had 47% battery then I would think you were doing MUCH better than most, imho.

I've got the same problem. Only yesterday, mine was over 65%! My phones horrible on battery life. Some things definitely up

And this began at around the 50% mark and as soon as it starts my battery starts dying way quicker
Do these screen shots help?

any ideas? seems like xda needs to be manualy killed or it ends up using alot of resources in the bacground
I have seen the same on my phone, but it has not happened consistently enough for me to narrow down the possible cause...
Happened to me once so far. Charged my phone to full and went to work. I didn't use my phone for anything other than to check the time. I started noticing that the back of the phone was getting very hot, more so than when charging. I pulled my phone out and the battery was waaay down :
Hasn't happened since (fingers crossed).
Edit: I guess mine wasn't the Android system, but cell standby.

The fix for the cell standby drain is easy, see here: http://techsplurge.com/10665/solution-samsung-galaxy-s3-cell-standby-battery-drain-problem/ As for the android system drain it seems to have resolved itself. I still get alot of kernel wakelocks from bam_dmux_wakelock though
Apparently my phone has been off charge for 3H36M when infact it has been 6H30 mins..
I am using CM9. Anyone else coming across this?

Calibrate your battery....cwm, wipe battery stats, reboot, drain battery to the point where your phone won't turn on, charge whilst phone is off, when your phone says its fully charged, remove charger and plug back in to make sure, power on, drain battery again and repeat the process from charging with the device off.
Do that around 4 times. And then maintain your battery by not charging everyday, run your battery completely dead around twice a week. Turn wifi/data off when not using it, auto brightness, bluetooth off, minimize the use of widgets and lwp
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Thanks for being so informative. I will do all of that. Is there a chance my phone will screw it self by re calibrating via cmw?
Also I trust your word about draining the battery twice a week, but I'm also curious as to why I've read in some places that you shouldn't let your batt drop below 10%. Is there a specific reason or is it just a false piece of information ?

Ok, after I rooted I seem to be having a strange. Battery issue .. anyone have a fix for this? (I user antutu to control CPU and for now I'm busting using it to monitor+ dropped my phone iinto eco mode ( where it usually is) I can counter bat loss by doing the normal stuff but I never had to do.anything other then turn off data before... and even then... but from 10:50 pm to 2:40 am the phone went from 90% to 12% . And that was ..( eco was off) lol ... but I have never had that happen. Before even with that.
Thanks for any advice

75% it was on the whole time...even though screen was off....
This is the screenshot its a straight drop over the hours mentioned ... slope stays steady so its Constant power drain until I noticed ( you can see on the graph)
None of those apps were open, and I had done a restart right before. ( I fell asleep which is why I know I wasn't using it)

Try it bcz to know the exact battery issue trial and error method of clossing apps is best.

Right after I rooted mine I had terrible battery as well. I ended up reformatting (not wipe, actually formatting my system and caches) and then installed my rom again, fixed permissions and my battery life has been amazing. If I don't use the phone my battery maybe drains five percent all day long. If I use it a lot it will last most of the day as well.

The other thing you should check is you fast dormancy.
If you're flashing custom ROMs it's best to do it at a FULL 100% charge. In the past, before I started doing this, I had major battery life "problems." My phone would drop from 100 to 1 in a matter of hours and just hang on 1% for hours on end. If you haven't done this, download Battery Calibration, turn off your device and plug it in. Once it reaches 100%, turn the device on, run the app, and restart your device WHILE STILL PLUGGED IN. Once everything settles you should be good to go.

For a while my phone is taking a lot much time to charge than it usually take earlier.
So today i installed this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abmantis.galaxychargingcurrent.free
And after i connect my mobile to charger this app usually shows that my phone is having max current:400/500 which shud be 999 instead. (Read app description)
After i disconnect charger and connect it back 3-4 times i get a rating of 700 or sometimes even 900(max) but after letting the mobile charge for a while this automatically decreases to 300-400.
And also from the time i bought the phone(4 months back) charger usually gets somewhat hot(not warm) but i ignored that issue.
So what do u think the fault is in-charger/phone?

Do not use such an application, let the phone discharge to zero to turn off and recharge to full.

charging problems are mainly related to cable!

No need to use this.
just delete the cache occasionally a classic way to charge your phone battery runs down.
It does not have to be zero!!

If you do calibrate batteries and erase cache, the system will be as before.
Have tried both i.e. cleared cache and charged completely frm 2%
But it almost took 6-7 hours
So is the problem in cable?

Cable
Charger
Usb Port
Battery are all possible causes of very slow charge .

yes it's the cable. many samsung customers including me faced the same problem. just change the cable.

Hello, I am having a problem with my note and it is scaring me. As soon as my note boots it is shutting off completely and restarting. I was just using it with fine last night. I had the uber kernel installed and oced to 1.9 cpu but it wasn't even that hot.. After thinking it was the Rom that was causing this I did a complete wipe and flashed the candykat Rom, upon boot when the cyogenmod log in screen appears it shut down and rebooted again.. twice. I'm hoping nothing is damaged internally. I am able to stay in the recovery just fine without any problems. Please help me.. And when I say shutdown I mean insta black screen and reboot..

Idk if I will do that lol. But now I think I know what the problem is. So yesterday I was using my note and it shut off. The battery was full and when it restarted the battery all the sudden dropped to 60%. It turned off again and went to 1%... I thought it was glitching when it said 1% but after amin it shutdown due to low battery. One thing I then tried was having my phone plugged in while using it and I played games, used my phony heavy and what do you know.. It didn't turn off. So I'm thinking I have a bad battery. PS: I took my note to a pawn shop and they said the battery was bloated. He said it wasn't supposed to spin while on a flat surface.. What do you think?
It seems while I'm playing a game the battery heats up and that causes shutdown cause I'm typing this and I don't have my charger plugged in and its fine..

Yes a bulging battery is a sign that it's bad. Batteries are cheap. Especially on eBay. I buy an extra battery and charging dock for all my devices. This way one is always fully charged, and I don't have to plug in the device unless I need Odin or to file transfer. I learned that lesson 2yrs ago when my usb charging port went bad.

No you won't see the power menu. It just keeps restarting. I don't think you'd even see your home screen because it restarts before the rom loads.

Oh well then. That's awesome because I'm able to use my phone for more than 5 mins without it shutting down. It usually shuts down when I start playing a game or something intensive. So it has to be the battery! I'm really happy.
