Just got the phone yesterday. The phone was already at 80%. So started using it, before it went to 5%, I had screen on time of 5.5 hours and total usage was 12 hours.. Screen brightness was between 30 to 100%. This was both on wifi and 4G.

Don't take it as personal criticism. We're very appreciative of you sharing with us your battery experience, and we hope you continue to do so over the next little while to see how it settles in. It's just that in my opinion this isn't a good start. Watching YouTube is actual less battery intensive than texting or other things where you're actually touching the screen. Keep posting your battery stats. It's very helpful.

But I will definitely keep updating with more charging cycles. Thanks!

Do you have evidence of your claim that texting and touching the screen uses more battery then streaming video? Don't take it as personal criticism, but I think you made that up. I get 4+ hours of screen on time on my Nexus 4 browsing, texting and emailing. If I stream Netflix I get 2 hours before the phone dies.

I've gotten 4.5 hours screen time using hotwire's kang and around the same using fj's old cm9 build so it's more than likely a problem on your end.
However, I've noticed that gpsserviceprovider sometimes doesn't shut off completely after using gps and is and preventing the phone from going into deep sleep. Sometimes I would go to sleep with a 100 % charge and wake up with an 86% charge. Searched around and seems to happen on some cm9 roms. A reboot solves the issue though.
Your best bet is to install betterbatterystats and check your wakelocks. Probably some app causing it on your end.
Man I get best battery life with cm9 and aokp
99% of the time its the user and not the rom

Or really expecting battery life to last 10 hours and 5hours alone are on screen time alone

All these screen shots on the threads showing 8-12hr battery life times are from probably minimal usage... on a 8hr work shift with mediocre usage I get 50% left

In terms of CPU and ram, it's only slightly higher than the sensation and the sensation has a great battery life. I know the sensation and Amaze are completely different phones and hardware is completely different, but what makes the amaze have such a bad battery life? anyone ever able to figure this out?

It's the display, it uses too much power and heats up too quickly, which uses more energy than it should, that's just imo though.

Your battery is okay. You probably turned your screen too bright or viewing your screen in bright environment. Leaving brightness in auto give slightly more than 2 hours screen time with 3G and push all on.

Battery drain might be bcoz of Jelly bean update itself. I've had my S3 for three months, battery lasted me for 2 days until I updated to jellybean. Now 5 % goes every hour even without using it. I'm sure an update will come out to fix this
If you are still using stock mod, have you removed any bloatware? Take a look in Apps/Running Apps to see weather or not your battery drain is being caused by unwanted/unused applications.

I'm not saying his screen shot isn't real it's just I don't trust people's screen shots as I can take a screen shot of up to 50 hours by basically plugging in my phone and not letting it reach 100% then unplugging it back to 20% then back to 80% and so on.

Nothing in your first post stated that my screen shot was fake, even if you did, your statement would still be wrong.
Also if I was an idiot to do what you would,(In bold). The graph in my first screen shot wouldn't be decreasing from (start, finish). It would have shown spikes of increasing.
I think you just really need to read better, and stop assuming everyone lie about their battery screen shots.
There's no point for most others and I to do that,
I posted my screen shots with a simple intention to help OP to achive better battery life on his SGS3.
As I know the phone has the potential.
Thus the reason I stated "using latest wanam lite with persus kernal".
Then you chime in with all these non sense.
I know I have probably wasted 5 minutes of my time writing this as you probably will just ignore the facts.
But as you are a senior member on XDA so please,
The least contribution you can make is by not plaguing XDA with false information and negativity.

Well maybe when you post screen shots you can explain what you used it for instead of just posting a screen shot and going away.
More information is more helpful and will give people a more understanding.
I've seen people in here boasting and showing screen shots of 35 hours but giving no information of how, what battery they used or how they used their phone or what settings they used and when I asked got no reply.
Your screen shot didn't really show much to be honest other than you used a custom Rom.
Lastly I never said yours was fake but just wanted more information.

Media looks high to me on your screenshot. You may have the media server wake lock draining battery.
As a temporary solution force close the media server. It should be OK until you reboot. Then you will need to close it again.
Some people (myself included) have had success in overcoming this by formatting the external SD.

How are you guys getting +14h and have so much battery left? wow!! I'm finally getting decent battery life and was pretty happy and then see your screenshot and get all sad again. I don't think I even got that kind of mileage on ICS
my screenies:silly:
Looks like Qualcomm has release an app to help with battery life for Snapdragon devices.

Beat me to it! I just set up the app. Will report back in a few days after it's done "learning".
Cool find, I'll give it a shot.

Thanks, just installed and in learning mode also. Here's hoping it helps, even if just a bit.
Is it not sad that the app is in learning mode for 2 days... aka has done nothing yet, but people are reviewing it??? If it does not turn off cpu cores when they hit idle the app is useless in my book.

Try Greenify. Basically the same thing but you can put any app into hibernation. I've noticed a huge increase in battery in just 24 hours as it seems apps like Maps and YouTube are constantly running in the background. Android System under battery usage is very minimal with Greenify disabling apps. Will shut off the background processes of your choice a little after you turn the screen off.

Worked here. Its saving now
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
I'm interested to see how this will work alongside Greenify and Battery Saver Pro. The results I'm getting with just the two are phenomenal. System Usage takes almost no battery and Android OS is only half an hour more than my screen on time taking only 9%.

I just flashed snowJB... So looks like I need to start over.

Mine just finished learning. Will need another day or so to see how much it helps.
Don't have any screenshots, clean flashed CM10, but after about a day it did nothing, my battery lasted about the same time as it usually does.
it just started learning today, and ive already noticed a huge boost in batter performance

I don't think it actually starts saving battery until after its done learning. Just look at the ongoing notification.

Yay for more battery drain. On top of normal usage, this app has kept my phone awake for an extra hour just from today. 3 days of learning? Looks like this thing will never kick into gear with Greenify doing all the work and more. Uninstalling lol.

I bought the droid DNA a couple days ago and I have 10 days to decide wether or not I want to keep it. It sounds like Verizon won't be getting the HTC one so I'm trying to decide whether to buy the s4 or wait for the developers to unlock the 2.06 boot loader so I can root it. Opinions?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
It's really up to whether you like touchwiz or sense. And if you really need extra storage.
And keep in mind, the Verizon s4 will have a locked boatloader, so there's no telling how long you'll have to wait to root that. So I woildnt make rooting a deciding factor.

Its the battery life that's really getting me. I absolutely love the display and camera quality but only having 16GB of internal storage is holding me down. I only have around 60 apps installed, all of which I use, but I have more that I would like to install but can't because of the limited space. I love the DNA's well built body and everything about the way it looks, but having poor battery life and a small amount of storage is whats changing my mind. The S4 is such a high demand and popular smart phone that I doubt I would have to wait that long before somebody unlocks it.

The s4 has about the same battery life as the dna, maybe slightly better. What type of battery life are you getting on your DNA. It should be able to last all day with 3-5 hours of screen on time.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
On a good day it'll last me from 11am to around 7 pm maybe later. My old s3 had better battery life actually
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
personally i'd go with s4...i like the DNA more with its premium feel and such but the s4 has unlock and root and a slightly faster device... i'm not sad with the DNA but wish i at least had sense 5..running nova launcher right now...ugh i hate having to use verizon..they are so dumb. wish united states didn't have a duopoly with cable and cell service

I'm using the new qualcomm app battery guru and I consistently get this now that's with streaming music on car trips during work day, and some Internet usage it's basically doubled to tripled my battery.

I dont want to see anyone complaining about battery life. I forgot to screenie the gsam stats but that was with about 2 hrs 25 minutes of screen time. I'm on LKs newest kernel.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
nice, what app is the one in the top left? is it gsam? but even if your stuck on stock this phone still has good bat life.
I'd wait it out a couple weeks for the S4. I have both to play with (thanks work) and I keep finding myself going back to the S4.
S4 over DNA
Better battery life, I'm even running the DNA on HSPA+ and it dies faster
Far better camera
I love blocking mode for at night, it works just like iOS do not disturb
Deeper Dev Pool for troubleshooting and hacks
Faster across the board
Will have a bootloader unlock solution almost day one.
MicroSD card for pictures and downloads
Multi color notification light
DNA over S4
Damn it's pretty
Great screen
HTC feels less bloated
More available storage because it is less bloated
Did I mention that it looks far better?
Wireless charging built in (but very slow)
2 things.

The Dev is just waiting for the Verizon version to be released before he announces the exploit.
The S4 has the option for qi but requires the purchase of a new back panel that has the qi receiver built in, it's not released as of yet but I believe it is set to go for $40.
If I were you I would get the DNA and personally I wish I had the option to because the main reason for getting this phone was a 1080p display but now that the S4 has one I would choose the S4 because I miss the developer support with galaxy phones.

Not to mention that the S4 battery is removable and charges in 1h from 0 to 100%. With that being said the DNA has an impressive battery life considering the "small" 2020mah battery and the 5inch 1080p display.
Quick charge batteries usually end up needing replaced much more often than a non removeable battery like the DNA has. Quick charge is cool and all but the average battery life on my DNA according to gsam is 18 hours. More than enough
