This is for the ATT LG G2 and requires you to be rooted. If you are not comfortable modifying system files, please do not go any further!
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage you should do to your shiny new device. This works as is, however it requires you knowing how to obtain root, navigate your file system with a root browser, and properly set permissions. Being as this device has no form of recovery or backup, please be careful when modifying system files.
So, I love the G2 but was somewhat unsatisfied with the speaker output. I decided to figure out how to change the volume gain.
Volume gain for the speaker is found in the following directory: /system/etc/snd_soc_msm
The file that needs to be modified is called "snd_soc_msm_Taiko". Please copy this file to your storage before changing it in case you need a file to revert from.
Open this file with a text editor. I prefer "920 text editor" from the play store.
Find this code:
Code:
SectionDevice
Name "Speaker"
Comment "Speaker Rx device"
EnableSequence
'SLIM RX1 MUX':0:AIF1_PB
'SLIM_0_RX Channels':0:eek:ne
'RX7 MIX1 INP1':0:RX1
'RX7 Digital Volume':1:60
'SPK DRV Volume':1:90
'SPK DAC Switch':1:1
'RX7 HPF cut off':0:MIN_3DB_150Hz
EndSequence
"60" is the stock gain for the speaker.
'RX7 Digital Volume':1:60
Change "60" to a number of your liking, For me "65" was enough to make notifications much louder. Too high and distortion will kick in. I'm sure too high could cause damage. Small increments are best.Play around with this number till you find what you like.
Save the file with the default file name and copy back to the following directory: /system/etc/snd_soc_msm
Change permissions to RW-R-R
Reboot
That is all it takes
Is this only for external speaker or headphone as well? Am also unhappy with the loudness of the speaker. Headphone volume is good and am satisfied. but external speaker, its same as GS3.

Thanks for sharing this -- great stuff!! Any chance you could post the complete file, so we could see what all can be changed (headphone vol, etc.)? (I don't have G2 yet.)
thanks a lot, great to see this stuff so early. quality on external speaker is definitely not a bad thing, but I'm concerned about volume cause I can never hear my notifications

Maybe try saving a copy, then editing it and paste on top of original. When I did this stuff on GS3, I edited the file on pc and then pasted it in.
Volume is terrible on my VZW version.

Better yet hop on root explore and go down to system>build propt mount R/O and change the "0" at the end to "1" and save change and reboot. ro.media.capture.shuttertone=0
I forgot who came up with the tweak but not I.

I recommend this more than the custom apk. This method is built-in and in case for some reason you want the sound back, the option is just a checkmark away.

If you're rooted all you have to do is use Root Explorer and go into:

Yes, but doing the build.prop mod allows the toggle to be done from within the camera app which makes it much easier to toggle, as opposed to having to switch to another app.
No need to install anything. The easiest solution is usually always the best.

I just use Root Explorer and go to System/Media/UI then rename the Camera_Click.ogg to Camera_Clik.ogg just changing a single letter works and you can always restore it if wanted.
(You have to be Rooted)

Unfortunately, many of the Android sounds are stored inside of.apk files which take a bit of tact to open, remove/change the sound file, repackage/sign.
Sometimes sound files are stored in the file system where you can access them directly with programs such as root explorer, but many system sounds are compiled into apk files such as the framework-res.apk file. Most apk files you can open in 7zip or any zip type of program, but modifying them can be a bit tricker. Themers and ROM devs usually have the tools handy to complete this task.
If you feel adventurous, there are plenty of guides around on how to modify system .apk files.
Hope that helps gives some general idea of where/how to look!
is this the sound you are referring to?(open zip to hear)

Two options that work good in my opinion.

Kid lets you block access to apps selectively. So no web browser or play store from angry birds etc.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.kidslock
And if you are using mx player for movies, then lock them into the app with this plug in.
Good luck, kids are much smarter than they appear with these devices!

So one of the biggest disappointments I've had with just about all my Samsung Galaxy devices has been the volume output from the external speaker - especially when watching movies.
So, as someone else asked about this in one of the ROM forums, I thought I would share my little tweak with the rest of you, and show how to do it yourself so you can play around with all sorts of volume tweaks.
As is the case with most things, be careful making changes to system files - I am not responsible if somehow you change a setting that results in the annihilation of the entire human race! (but really ... the worst that'll happen is it won't change anything, or you'll crash on boot ... so back everything up, and nandroid)
Process:
1) Download and extract either the moderate, or extreme file uploaded to this post.
2) Using your file explorer of choice, navigate to system/etc/snd_soc_msm
3) Back up the file titled snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3_auxpcm (i just add a .bak to the end of it, but moving it to another location works too)
4) Copy/move the downloaded snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3_auxpcm file into the system/etc/snd_soc_msm directory.
5) Set the permissions to rw-r-r (errors and crashes if you don't)
5) Hot-boot or re-boot your phone, and boom ... the speaker is quite a bit louder.
This only "boosts" the external speaker, not the headset speaker, or bluetooth, or the headphone lineout.
Alternatively, if you'd like to know how to do this for future reference, I'll teach you! (because tinkering around is how we all learn in the first place, right?)
1) Open the snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3_auxpcm file in Notepad++ and search for "speaker" ... you're looking for the line that says "Comment "Speaker Rx device" "
2) Below that you'll see several values under "EnableSequence" ... you want to edit the "RX5 Digital Volume"
3) Change the default value from 66.9% to something like 75% (I used 72.9 for the moderate and 77.9 for the extreme)
Save the file, copy it over, and there you go.
I would caution against going much higher than 77.9% ... you could do some serious damage to the speaker if you go too high...you've been warned!
You can also play around with some of the other "digital volume" values under the other headers .. such as "headset device", etc.
Good luck folks - enjoy turning your amps up to 11!
This worked great! Thank you so much! Extreme distorts it a bit if put all the way up. I know this was bound to happen when tweaking the volume. so im about to try moderate also. But it definitely works.
Edit: Moderate is just right. Noticeably louder! But not that extreme for distortion to be caused. Thank you!

+1 on this working everytime i update my rom this is one of the first things i do and it works very well.
Glad it's working. I definitely hear you (pun intended?) about the distortion thing, but that's unavoidable. I personally only use the "moderate" boost - I'm not that deaf..yet.
You can definitely mess around and increase the volume of the line-out (headphones), and the call speaker .. if anyone wants those, let me know and i'll upload them.

you can, but I never do. I always want a backup of the original. You're 100% correct on all of this. I highly recommend doing all edits like this on your computer. You certainly can do them on your device, but it's safer and easier to do them on your computer.
Plus...you'll learn a lot more when you can spread those files out and really dig in.
So i'm still working on it...just wanted to let you guys know I haven't forgotten. I've tried lots of different things and haven't had any luck yet. It's possible there's some sort of hard-coded limiter to how loud you can make the headphone jack go, but we'll see if I can't work it out. Give me the next 24 hours to keep plugging away.
Plus, gives me a good chance to listen to a lot Gogol Bordello while I tweak sound settings

Awesome Man!!! Wasn't expecting that kind of response when I asked.... Actually didn't realize this thread was new either haha. I thought it was an old thread that I was hoping someone just had an answer too.
Here's a stereo speaker mod (uses the earpiece as a "second speaker"), based off of work from ashirviskas and his G5 mod. I just made it compatible with the LG V20, which wasn't really all that different anyway.
Back up your original mixer_paths_tasha.xml in /system/etc/ then replace it with this one, set permissions, and reboot.
Stereo speaker MOD
Another great mod, thanks freebro!
Sent from my LG-H918 using Tapatalk
This can "potentially" damage the earpiece at higher volumes, use caution
Since you've messed around with the V20's mixer paths and understand how they work, could I ask if you could try another mod? I was wondering if you knew how to boost and/or optimize the bottom speaker by modifying the mixer paths so that it sounds more clear, deeper, and louder like the G5 speaker was?
When I edit my mixer path files and try to save Im not able to don't know why and I'm rooted and all, anyone?

If you are using Root Explorer (it's what I use for GUI filesystem operations), when you are in the /system directory, at the top of the folder list will be a line of text showing you how much space has been used / available, the status of the folder (yours is probably R/O) and a button that says "Mount R/W". When you click that button, it will request root, and then you will be able to write to files in your /system and sub directories. Once you're done editing the file, before you reboot, make sure you go back to the /system root and click the button again which will now say "Mount R/O". Then proceed with the instructions from there.

what specific lines were changed from the original, just curious?
@freeza thank you for this and the boot animation mod. Any chance a Rom is possible? Followed your work / input on the note 7. I'm sure I'm one of many that are glad you have the V20 at least u til the note 8 arrives LOL.

There's no apk for that. You need to modify build.prop for that and to do that you need root

Awesome! Root is getting better and better. Now to find replacement camera glass and wait for xposed. Feliz Navidad as my fiance would say!
