Is there a speed increase on v.6 over v.5?
Yes I think there was a definite speed increase, buts that's me and from what I have read from others it seems to be the same comments from all !!!
Well im newest remix. And with oom fixing from supercharger and the edit I made to minfree script came wit rom. I have no skips and productivity index on smartbench is hovering average 3000.
I also use poweramp buffer set huge and moved to sdcard(( don't think its really on my ext sd card tho ) but all my music stored on class 6 8gb lexar card. I get ONE skip when I open bloat freeze
. Which I only use once in a while lol.
Overall speed is very nice and snappy. I put golauncher ex into system app and removed blur home and(after some other freeze/removal..not much) that jumped my ram up to 240mb free in startup. Which makes all my apps able to stay in memory making my phone very quick.
Still the only thing that always takes a couple seconds to respond after I touch is the damn stock browser. I think I may just ditch it for dolphin hd. I just really like the simplicity usefulness in stock browser. I might get my search on for a better one unless someone has a tip for speedier stock browser response.
Sorry I rambled lol
Try the both and judge for yourself. v6 (blurless) is his best for what I need a phone to do - clean and responsive as hell. Battery was much better in v6, for me.

FYI on the browser, Dolphin HD is nice but if you like something simpler that still has the functionality of Dolphin HD try Dolphin Mini. I love it, all I use. though I do have HD as a 2nd just in case.
Running Road Runner on v6 is blazing.. 15 sec bootup til your doing w/e you want. ONly bad thing bout v6 is you cant data roam
Yeah, I already updated to V 0.6, In my opinion its fastest. I use Zeam launcher because I don't really need a bunch of options and its super fast, I haven't put it in system apps though. I think I'll try that. I also get better battery life. For browsers I use firefox beta (7), its totally redone with performance in mind. I like to use fruit ninja thd as a reference for real world performance, on stock it lags big time if you cut 2 or more fruit at once, with eclipse its butter smooth, most of the time. lol
Hi all,
I'd just like to share my experience when testing the official ICS update:
It's quite fast, looks a bit nicer too, I really love the fact you can disable services (finally!).
However, next to the known bugs (notification led not working, more ram usage), I did experience some issues when streaming videos:
- flash video is extremely choppy, seems to be loading continually.
- same for the app dumpert.nl, which streams flv files. Loading the movie takes quite some time, after which it only runs smooth for a couple of seconds, then it gets loading again.
- playing video from sd seems to work correctly though.
- I have the impression that loading from sd card is way slower as on GB?
For the moment I have reverted to GB, as it runs smoother with almost no bugs.
Coming from iphone 3GS, I keep however dreaming of an android device with a silky smooth interface ;-) (perhaps 4.0.4+ ics will do that ?)

I highly doubt that Sony will update 2011 series further than 4.0.4, as at first they were claiming that those phones' specs aren't good enough to run ICS properly.
but I guess that flashing custom ROMs and kernels might do the job
I too had pretty bad experience with ICS on my LWW and ultimately reverted back to superstable GingerBread.
But i love ICS. If you have any issue on SD card, use "Rom toolbox" or "SD Speed Increase" apps for improve SD card speed.

Official Sony ICS ROM is full of crapware. This is what makes it slow. Use a custom ROM. My phone was never this fast and snappy before with stock ROM as it is now with custom ROM and kernel.

No root + bloatware on ICS = Lag/ Freeze screen.
Maybe you need to get a separate/personal phone.
2011 Xperia phones are a bit choppy by default running on ICS that's why you need to have root permissions (the least) to make some remedy.

OK, since there's a thread I'll share my experience. First, let me point out the good things.
1. It's ICS. Fast, smooth, no lag in menus or stock apps. Runs great on this hardware.
2. I first thought the Sony UI would destroy the ICS experience, but I was pleasantly surprised. Except the bloatware, the icons and menus look great.
3. Battery life. In my usage experience is much better. I can very easily pull through a day and still have ~20% left. I'm talking about a few hours surfing on WiFi and a little browsing on 3G.
4. Multitasking. Even with 512MB ram and Sony bloatware, I can multitask without any application/game suddenly closing. Also the ICS multitasking menu is excellent.
5. Camera. The photos are finally in 100% JPEG quality. A photo is around 1.5 - 2 MB in size. Also, the videos seem to be of a better quality, even with the stabilizer on I don't have FPS drops. The only thing that's missing is the macro mode. Actually I think it's not missing since I once got the phone to say macro even though I was shooting an outside nature portrait. I think the camera app has problems when focusing close objects, this needs to be fixed.
Now I also have many of the problems already mentioned.
1. Notification LED. It doesn't work, except when the phone is charging, I get no light for SMS/Email/FB...
2. Games. Some games like Angry Birds Space, Temple Run and others suddenly the touch stops responding. A reboot usually solves this. I don't get what's causing this, as the games state that they are optimized for ICS.
4. Chrome Browser. The browser installs and runs fine, but whenever I click on a text field, the virtual keyboard doesn't show up. I can only use the QWERTY to type letters as the FN, Symbol and other keys don't work, which makes the browser pretty much unable. I can't find a fix, I think it's a application bug.
Overall, I'm satisfied with the update Sony managed to pull, maybe a little later than stated, but they kept their promise. Hope this bugs will be fixed with a new update.

I think ICS has a option for disable the unwanted system apps, without root. Follow this guide http://www.thespicygadgematics.com/2012/06/how-to-remove-bloatware-on-android-ics.html

Only sore point is when it comes to some games ICS lags.. Towers n trolls is choppy.. But ignoring that..rest is great.. Camera is much better quality wise too..

Hello, so here's my question:
Is there a way to get the browser to do its thing using the external microSD instead of the slow internal one? Just like browser2ram does, but using the microSD instead of the ram. Or better yet, move the browser app to work completely on the external storage.
Browser2ram looses the browsers data with each reboot but if we used the microSD, data wouldn't be lost...
I dont want to move the entire system to work on the external storage since i dont wanna risk anything going wrong just want the browser... It would almost certainly remove all browser ANR's while improving speed (provided you have a fast microSD like I do).
If it is impossible with the stock browser, could it be done with any flash-capable browser out there?
Good question!

Data2SD is officially supported on Androwook 1.3 with the D2SD kernel. Plus the Rom is fast and responsive as all hell.
Well by modifying browser2ram it should be doable. Sources are somewhere on internets.

I see what you want to do. if you are unlocked you can use data2sd very safely if you do not do any further modifications to the ext4 partition. all of your anrs should be gone and your entire tablet will work better. There really is not much risk of anything going wrong as you put it. I have used it for the last 3 months with no data loss under standard conditions. where you increase risk is when you try to improve that performance even more by using ext 2 or non journaling ext 4 with data2sd.

I've read a few threads here concerning multitasking problems on the Galaxy S3. From what I gather, the reason multitasking sucks and apps constantly reload when reopened is due to bloatware running in the background using precious memory.
I have a Nexus 7 as well and multitasking on this thing is a dream. Hardly anything is ever reloaded. I've seen a few different suggested solutions but nothing 100% solid.
My S3 is stock (unrooted) and running JB 4.1.1. For some reason, my phone won't find the 4.1.2 update but that's another story in itself.
I'm just asking for people who have experienced this problem, apps constantly redrawing, what you all have done to fix this. What roms you've flashed, mods you've flashed or made etc. Maybe this can be made into a thread to help a lot of S3 users, a guide somewhat. This is my 2nd S3, I flashed a few ICS roms on the 1st one and it never made much of a difference in terms of memory management, but I don't know if the same could be said for JellyBean.
Any tips and advice much appreciated, thanks in advance!

Most custom roms seem ok for multitasking. Just don't flash any aggressive memory management mods coz they're gonna kill your app as soon as you open another.. "stock" custom roms do the trick for me unless I'm running a heavy game or something.

I've been flashing roms like crazy and none of them are as smooth as my Nexus 7 or my friend's Nexus 4..I've tried all the best AOSP roms and stock based roms and I can't be satisfied till it can be as smooth as a Nexus 4..its solely the ram management that's slowing everything down :'(

I have never ever had a problem with multitasking. Is that probably only because I have the 2GB version of the Galaxy S3?

I have the sane problem and flashed omega rom 4.1.2 and same problem reloads my app
high usageof ram is da problem
2gb version doesnt have this problem . only 1gb version di this
I understand what you're saying. Like you, i've searched and tested a lot to solve multitasking on stock roms (zram, swap in the internal sd, swap on external sd, tweaks like apps in ram increase, etc.) Far from satisfying. You can get jkay mod to lock your launcher in memory, that helps with the launcher redraws but one can't just lock everything in ram. zram had weird behaviours with extended use, swap works but makes all stuff generally slower, especially if used from the external sd and also has the sd wear potential problem.
I've came to terms with the reality that multitasking is essentially broken and since every other samsung phone on this range is getting 2Gb i gave up on samsung bothering to actually make this work properly. I don't even think newer phones have that fixed either, it's just there's probably enough ram not to care.
I was just about to put it up for sale so i tried aosp roms. Dude, this is where it's at, it's not that it's perfect but multitasking probably doesn't get any better than this for this phone. Tried slimrom and, granted, you do some "sacrifices" but multitask WORKS. I mean, stuff doesn't get closed after a while because for no reason - on stock, apps on background actually apeared to have a timer, they'd get closed even if i didn't do anything with the phone after a while (there's a limit of course). Also, i didn't compromise that much. Browser is actually better than stock's - does the same but it's faster and reflows text on zoom. Camera isn't THAT bad. You do lose all the effects from the stock camera but i never used them anyway and i can always get some other camera app for that, there's plenty anyway. I've seen people complaining about bluetooth but i use mine a lot and haven't come across any problem. Some say they have worse battery or microlags - to me battery's about the same as stock and had microlags anyway with stock, even worse since apps were restarting way more often.
TL: DR - try out an aosp rom. Made me reconsider selling my phone. For now.
Just recently obtained a redmi note 3 and I am stocked with how good it is and how performance wise it feels like a top end phone.
However I have come to the realization of....
What the hell do you need a hexacore 3gb ram for just seems a bit overboard, can't imagine why or how to use it to all its advantage...
So.. What do you use yours for??
Almost thinking virtualisation of os's should be pretty viable!
well the way miui clears apps when you power off the phone the 3gb will probably never get utilized by the very aggressive app closing miui does, but I guess in some cases like custom firmwares (cm13) it would be possible to run a ton of apps without the system closing them down,
The phone only two cores that run at 1.8 ghz, and the other 4 run at 1.4 ghz -I believe- most apps only use two cores though, I guess some expertly coded game emulators or games can take advantage of the extra cores, possibly web browsers too..., the system also has a 500 meg swap file zram (I think they should of left the swap file out though since if the system uses that it will be slower access then the actual ram)
I know the performance of the 2gb and 3gb variants are about the same, but I just had to get the 3gb version since it has a 64bit os and it might take a bit more ram then a 32bit os would, and the 32 gb emmc is nice too, very fast 100+ mb/s wite/read - so even using a big sdcard to compensate wouldn't have near the speed of the built in 32gb storage memory
my main concern with this phone is the lack of exfat support, seriously sdxc has been out for quite some time now and exfat for android is open source (from samsung), or they could of used exfat fuse support as an alternative... sdcards over 32gb are going to need to be formatted to fat32...which is kinda ridiculous
http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=F&searchValue=exfat
Intensive games will exploit the extra cores. It's also a very, very efficient battery wise.
Not really into phone games but most defiantly will try some of the classics, however more interested in apps etc, I remember on my Asus 7 I could emulate kali to do some penetration testing.. Anything like this viable on Miui
Really not bothered with custom roms and root etc got this phone to last and stock roms seems perfect so far.
Same here since it ships with android 5.1.1 it's pretty modern , Android 5+ have already switched to the new ART runtime (vs the older dalvik found on android 4), of course getting on android 6 is nice but it's not a huge step from 5, so for now I will hold off on a custom firmware and I kinda like miui 7-except the launcher which I replaced with TSF Launcher.
Since we do have an official CM13 build tree maybe if it progresses to CM14 (android 7/N) I might be tempted to switch over since N is supposed to have 20% better optimizations well see it's much too new atm.
Some android games are nice but I always had a knack for emulators like epsxe, ppsspp ,drastic, reicast ..etc so enjoyable to see android actually emulating another machine and running at native speeds, having good GPS is another thing I like about this phone, some phones can never even get a lock but this phone is very quick at getting a 3d gps lock, so nice for navigating, I haven't really tested the camera out much but the photo quality seems semi-ok (when zooming in you can see like a blur rather then pixels, where on my Samsung tablet camera it's more pixelized at high zoom, ) but pictures do look ok at normal resolution I will look into the camera more, I do know it can do 4k video and slo-mo, the camera has a uniqe flash too it has a orange flash and a white flash (to simulate sunlight?) - never seen that before.
True true, will be getting all them emulators out for sure and does it really do 4k and slow_mo? On stock camera app? Can't imagine using my tablet again after having this phone for a day ha.

Same my poor Samsung galaxy tab pro 8.4, I have been really neglecting it since I got this phone,
as for 4k video I am pretty sure it is locked out in the stock camera app, you will need to use opencamera or similar, slo-mo if I recall needs to be in 720p mode for the option to show
