Hey guys. Looking for an opinion on what's a stable ROM to install on my nook 16gb tablet. I'm running a year old or longer ROM from demetris.... runs good still. But wanting to update. Needs to have good battery life, be compatable with most apps/games. And stable. No crashing. I'm thinking about slim ROM... as it seems the newest from him. But open to suggestions. Cyacongen mod nightleys look buggy from comments I read.

I highly recommend Succulent's modified CM10.1 based ROM. It has Tablet UI option, 1.2GHz default CPU freq, and Goo manager pre-installed. Many of the useless apps have also been removed.
Here's the link. Make sure you have CWM 6.xx installed or you might have trouble installing newer ROMs.

I'm running Cyanogenmod Acclaim 10.1.2 Stable release. It is simply perfect. I have it installed on emmc (internal). It is fast, gives me extraordinary battery life (standy for almost a full week!), and since it is Android 4.2.2, it is compatible with nearly everything. Mic works fine, audio and video playback is excellent. Overall, I'm thrilled with this ROM.
Well... acclaim 10.1.2 stable sounds like what I'm looking for then. You have me sold.

After Nook (I got the 250 model, 16GB) is rooted with CWM, do I just download above, rename it to update.zip, and then place it SD card, and then reflash it? Is that all?
Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but I only flashed a single Samsung device in the past, over a year ago, and I just want to make sure things are the same with Nook.
I don't mind 4.1 or 4.2, as long as it works smooth with no major drawbacks, and google play runs fine, it's just for the kids to get some games and watch some movies.
In reference to CWM version, I downloaded CWM_SD_flash_and_exe from one of the links here, how do I make sure I got the correct CWM version to avoid problems flashing?

If you plan to use official 10.1.3 build, you'll need to separately flash CWM using, e.g., flashable_CWM_6.0.2.8.zip from Succulent's recovery repository http://goo.im/devs/succulent/acclaim/recovery.

Thank you, this is really a lot of information to process, I agree that I need to read more, which I thought I did.
I figured out the cwm part, very straight forward once the card is partitioned properly (never had to deal with partitioning in Samsung) this makes it is rooted. After that all hell breaks lose, is it supposed to be really that complicated with so many steps?
I was so confident that once CWM is on the SD, processed & roots the Nook, we can just run update.exe with CM 10.1.3 and that would be it. :silly:

A few quick questions:
1) DO ROMs such as AOKP (My current) come with CWM? I believe installed CWM v 4 as per droidstyle's (awesome) guide, but then after AOKP was installed, I have CWM v 5.
2) When I look in my phone's root directory I see the folder sdcard, but also in root/mnt/sdcard, is there a difference?
3) What is the difference between flashing via odin, or via CWM if any?

one more quick (noob ^.^) question, why is it that when I go to the cyanogen mod website the ROM is 7.2.0, but on droidstyle's guide the ROM is version 9.x.x? Why is the latest one not on the website when i go to the fascinate download page?

section 3 provides a link to cm7.2 gb(most likely an older version, will update soon)
section 4 provides a link to cm9 ICS
You are probably looking at stable/official builds. As far as I'm aware, cm still classifies ics as experimental and cm7 is the official version.
That said, ice is very much daily driver quality despite what cm says.

I was just curious if anyone was planning on building TRWP 2.4 for the fassy since its not yet supported by their team.? Or does it still not play nice with the fassy?

I am going to be receiving a fascinate tomorrow and have plans to install cm10.1 via odin. From my understanding I can then install twrp and goo to install updates from that point on. I presume I have to still use odin to unlock the phone and get CM10.1 working, but goo/twrp should work for updating it from the nightlys after that point, correct?

You don't have to unlock the fascinate its all open just put cwm on it and flash cm10.1 twrp won't work on cm10 and above so you have to use cwm use this guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070

cm10 includes it's own "cmupdater" app. Checks for new builds on your schedule (or manually), notifies of new builds, displays change logs, and installs the updates. Works well. It's visible on the "about phone" settings menu. Also available in the app drawer...

Linked below is a kernel bundled with the latest version of TWRP modified to work with the fascinate. I've only tested it with my personal cm10.1 build, it should work with other 4.2.2 ROMs, may work with 4.2.1 ROMs. Due to the way the bootloader handles the kernel/recovery partitions, it (currently) has to be bundled with the kernel. If I come up with a way to make it stick across different builds I'll submit the changes to the appropriate upstream repositories, etc.
I haven't tested much other than flashing zip files, backup/restore may break your device into a million pieces. That might be kinda funny.

Seems my changes have been merged in the main TWRP repository
I still can't seem to come up with a decent way to replace the recovery permanently from kernel to kernel, but I've fixed fakeflash to work with the current version of TWRP. Fakeflash allows you to temporarily flash a different recovery by flashing a zip file in your current recovery. This allows it to work regardless of what kernel/recovery you are currently using.
A test version is linked below. Flash it in your current recovery and it will reboot into TWRP. Subsequent reboots will run your previous recovery, the zip needs to be flashed each time to use TWRP. Anyone who has had the fascinate for more than a year and a half should know all about fakeflash it's the original way we used recovery (**** you samsung).

kill type ?my wifi is workin I havent had any issues as far as i know. ran wifi a lil bit earlier and no issues. My wifi has is always crappy for me though here at home. Seems spotty a lil but like i said thats normal for me.

is there a way to modify the source to use the prebuilt bootimage.Also when compiling it fails to create the utilities folder.
I would like to install a rom on my recently purchased galaxy facinate. I need to use the bluetooth and gps a lot, so I need a rom that has both of those working very well. What is the best stable rom to use for this? I have installed roms on previous phones and have had troubles with various functions, but I'm certain someone out there must know a good and stable one that noob like me could use.

It looks like you pulled that from droidstyle's guide, which is exactly where you needed to go and everything is accurate.
About the THS flash... well, different people here seem to have different experiences. On my device I don't flash THS before installing anything, I go directly from flashing CWM4 to flashing whatever I want to and have no issues, but there have been people on here who get errors that way. If it makes you feel better to flash THS before CM 10.1 then go for it, it won't hurt anything, it'll just take longer.
This whole process is not something you should have to do again unless you really mess something up, once you're on CM 10.1 you only need to reboot into recovery, wipe data/davlik/cache and flash whatever other rom you want to. There are a lot of good roms available that you might want to check out, in fact one of the more popular roms Paranoid Android just came out with a new version that looks pretty good.
This phone is hard to break, just don't get careless and you'll be fine honestly.
do you need to install gapps in addition to the cm10.1 nightly? and to verify you installed cm10.1 directly after cm7 skipping gbbootloader and teamhack installs?

Yes, you do flash gapps after installing cm10. You do it immediately after flashing the ROM in recovery, no need to reboot first (better not to, in fact).
Process-wise, I've never reached for Heimdall, always used Odin, but the cm wiki article looks like a more tedious process to me...
Once you've got the USB drivers + Odin installed, and the various flashable files handy, we're only talking a few steps to go from stock to cm10.1.
Do note that after you've got JT's clockwork recovery installed, the cm instructions say to flash your cm ROM directly without flashing the older THS ROM first .

I just bought a Samsung Fascinate and was also wondering what people are using.
I tried the latest 4.22 versions of Hellybean and JellyBro. about the only thing I noticed was that the overclock setting on Hellybean had a top range of 1.4 GHZ and JellyBro topped out at 1.2.

I have been trying to flash Imonseyon leankernel v5.1 for awhile now and I'm having issues... I don't know if the link doesn't work or what the deal is. I want the 184v undervolt bc I have been having crazy battery drain.. Everytime I flash it I get a status 2 in TWRP. Any suggestions..

What rom are you using?
If it's a Sense based GB rom, did you grab the Sense kernel?
If it's an AOSP GB rom, did you grab the Aosp kernel?
If it's an ICS rom, it won't work.

Since TWRP 2.3 is based on AOSP jelly bean sources, TWRP now uses recovery API 3 instead of 2. Some zips may no longer work if the developer is using an out-of-date update-binary.
This API change should not be a problem on newer devices, but older devices will probably encounter several zips that need to be updated.
If needed, you can try using this update-binary that was compiled with current sources.
It goes in your zip file in the META-INF/com/google/android folder. If you're getting a status error 2 during zip install, then an outdated update binary is almost certainly to blame.

Ok thank you so much! FAST response lol. Would there be another recovery that is better to use or it doesn't matter?? Currently I am using your, I believe, ICS rooted debloated ROM stock/rooted. I was on liquidsmooth aosp and cm7 thundershed switching between them to get a feel for them... But for some reason I tried to do a full wipe and then reinstall from my restore of those two roms and try the leankernal, it's saying failed after I updated to TWRP 2.4.3

Where is that zip you are talking about located.. In /system or somewhere else bc I can't seem to find it?
There is a backup bug in the latest release of Twrp. Switch to 4ext and your backups may work again. Someone posted on the n7 he could restore backups in Twrp from the previous version with the version he made them with but restoring backups on the latest version couldn't restore those

The zip I was referring to, was the kernel zip you were trying to flash.
And if you have run my rom, you should know I suggest using 4ext recovery.
It's mentioned in all my rom OP's.

Good luck with the 184mhz, I can not use that on my phone, always does the deep sleep of death.... thats not a good thing.
As for a ROM, I always suggest one of Santod's ... really any of them lol

Dude so far no problems with 184mhz.. Speed is no issue, no lag, no reboots, but I'll have to put it through the 24hr test to fully see how it does. And I charge my battery to 100% when installed it, approx. 4hr 41mins with pretty much none stop usage.. at 72% now. On the old kernal I would have been dead..

I'm using a Galaxy Note with a Bell board (was originally AT&T but that bricked because at the time I thought flashing an N7000 ROM would work, D'oh!) and I want to upgrade to a Jelly Bean Rom. I'm using Blackstar XI, a 4.0.4 ROM, and I'm looking for a lightweight JB rom. It can lack stylus/pen support, I found myself not using that feature as much as I thought I would.
Would I run into any issues using a QuincyATT Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 ROM, considering it's a Bell note board? Would I need to unlock my SIM first? And I recall there being a trick with Notepad++ I needed to do in order to make it work, even on my AT&T board.
I just have an issue with heavy RAM usage at boot and I can't even run some apps, since I know touchwiz is stupid.
Anyone willing to help me get it running on my note? Any help would be appreciated!

If you like blackstar, I would just flash Blackstar Blackjelly after doing a backup. It's what I've been running as my go-to on my Telus note. The other jb's are great too, but cm comes with the odd small bug like echo on speaker phone. Most of the customizations make them worth trying though.

Sweet. I could give that a try if the Cyanogenmod ROM doesn't work. Is there anything I need to do in preparation, since this is technically a Bell note? Or can I just go ahead and flash the ROM without any changes to the ZIP?

I'm assuming you have an unlocked bootloader already since you are running cm. Just be sure to have latest cm recovery or gimmeitorilltell's twrp (although other versions work with Jellybean, if you try kitkat or lollipop you'll have problems). Make sure you are flashing a quincyatt rom.
I have been using SGH-I717ATT-UCMD3-Modem with great success for a radio. Your mileage may vary.
If you get no signal, before blaming the rom, first check your mobile networks access point names and settings to be sure they match your carrier. (A good idea is to take a couple screenshots of your settings now before you flash any new roms as there are quite a few numbers involved)

Good news! I tried the CM10.1.3 ROM and it worked well minus two small gripes:
1. Occasional freeze/hang on lock screen, causing it to reboot
2. Random artifacting/crashes during video playback/browsing through gallery
I'm gonna say this is the best performing ROM I've tried so far, but I'm going to give BlackJelly a try! I'll keep you posted. Just figured I'd give Cyanogenmod a proper shot now that I know how to install ROMs!

Can you point me in the direction of the latest TWRP recovery that I can flash through Odin?

I'm not sure about Odin, but I flashed the latest TWRP to my device using Rashr from Google Play store.

Upgrading my recovery now, yay! I also have the Phase kernel because I've heard a lot of good things about it.

Backup, backup, backup. If TWRP successfully installs then backup. If something goes wrong you can revert everything or just the boot partition. (Kernel)
