Whenever I get a new phone, I ALWAYS brick it - AT&T LG Optimus G

Mind you I temporary bricked them, but I've yet to this day tried rooting a phone, and never had things go smoothly.
Any guide I try to follow just so happens to be the wrong one, or isn't thorough enough in its directions... Theres always some missing software, or missing details on what to do when you hit a road block, so here is my story so someone can point me in the right direction...
I bought this LG Optimus G LS970 on eBay, and apparently it was already rooted, and it had some sprint apps on it so I guess its the sprint version of the phone. Anyways I notice there are some photos on the phone, so start plugging in the the phone to my pc only to find that i cant access files.... I google some questions, start holding buttons trying to get into whatever boot or recovery mode or some mode i dont understand.
Turns out I got something called Team Win Recovery Project v2.6.0.0 flashed on my phone.... I don't quite get what all these options are, but all I see are wipe options and I'm thinking "Hey this will get me back to factory settings and maybe i can flash a barebones android jellybean whatever (I dont know what os is called on a phone) So I start checking boxes and wiping things...
I soon find out that my device is telling me I don't have an OS. Of ****ing course it doesn't. I realized I just deleted it, because it told me I deleted it.
Well atleast I still have this recovery dohicky so not all is lost.
I start reading unbick guides, and of course I dont know what they mean, I just download every link they tell me to and run them. I install "drivers" and even then, when I plug the phone into my PC, I still get "Did not install" popups even if "LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN38AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.8.1" said it installed correctly....
I open up this Original LG Firmware thing, and asks for my phone's model and serial number... Just what the hell is my phone's model? eBay listing said E973, the back of the phone says LS970, that useless mobile tool that wont let me download additional drivers says its called LG-LS970, and google results call it LGLS970....
And of course I don't know my phones serial or whatever a "imeieieie" is because I don't have an os to tell me that (guides don't tell me how to get this on a bricked phone and google result is useless)...
So I cand download this thing called a kdz because #1 it wont let me, and #2, and google just doesnt have a download link for it.
All I wanted was a rooted lg optimus g with a nexus-like experience on it without bloatware, and I somehow manage to brick my device within minutes of owning it, what do you think I should do.
I did hold down Vol - to get into some black screen that says "SERIAL" with a number, but that number doesnt seem to work with that lg firmware downloader thing. What do?

Super easy fix. Get an external sd card. Put a ROM on it. I recommend one of these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2067871 the latest version is Stock Jellybean of our phones. OR is you want CM10 use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2411406 . Be sure to download ROM+GAPPS for CM10. I recommend those since you probably don't know if your phone has the updated partitions.
Anyway put whichever you want on the External SD card. Reboot back into recovery TWRP (Team Win Recovery). Wipe Data/Cache/Dalvik. Go back then Install the files you put on the External SD card.

Ls970 is sprint version. Only att version has external SD.

Oh wow I read that some many times and it just didn't click. Well it's much hard now. To OP, you should ask in your designated forum. This one is for the AT&T model. The easiest way is to find out how they restore their phones to stock. Probable LGNPST or something similar. Or install ADB, then push a ROM file to the internal, then flash in recovery. You're gonna have to do some research. But it's still easily do-able. As for the issues with the drivers, someone over there should have a link to alternative ones. But you can google "universal ADB drivers" and those should work.

I used LGNPST with a positive result. The hardest ****ing part was finding whatever-necessary file I was supposed to flash to the device. It took me hours to find it (not much help from XDA) and I was never clear if the file I washed, was indeed the stock rom the device came with.
The device now has startup and shutdown animation and jingles I wasn't familiar with (Different from what I got the phone with)
What I know is, the ebay Listing was for a E973 from West Virginia with abunch of Sprint apps on it.
But E973 is said to be a Canadian model? But Canada doesnt have sprint? And the phone says LS970?
I don't know whats this phones origins are, I just know I flashed a file called LS970ZV7_02.SV7_02.P25006.tot which told me to rename to bin, it flashed an outdated, possibly mismatched version of android, and from update to update I eventually got back to 4.1.2 but had new animation startup stuff...
My phone came pre-rooted and pre-recovery, but this recent flash killed those and now im looking to get back to that point. I'm unaware if my radios or whatever are jacked up or not because I never intended to use the device with a service as I get by just fine on Wifi only.
I found something called GAIO but the original page is offline and i cant download it.

Well, by your own admission, you said you needed to flash the LS970 tot file, which wouldn't be in this forum, the AT&T LG Optimus G is the E970, it's distinct in that the back glass has the AT&T logo, for one. On the bottom center on the back glass it also says "LG-E970"
On the left side of the device, with the volume buttons, below them is a tab that pops open for the micro SDCARD and SIM card.
If the phone you hold in your hands doesn't have these distinctions, and you start flashing stuff from THIS forum and not the LS970 (aka Sprint LG Optimus G) You very well might brick, temporary or not, all over again.
That being said, with the correct kernel, MANY of our roms work just fine for your phone, but research and reading is a prerequisite for such.

after data wipe, phone boots to black screen, rooted but no CWM recovery - confused

I've spent a couple days searching, but there doesn't appear to be a relevant enough thread to help me here, so I've resorted to asking for help, hopefully you guys can help me figure this out.
I got my girlfriend a used Telus SGH-T959D (same thing as the T-mobile version pretty well) several months back. It was on stock 2.1 and worked fine but was very laggy compared to my rooted HTC Desire on oxygen 2.3.2. So I rooted it and installed a 2.2 rom with Voodoo sound control (but no lagfix), and she's been using it this way for months now. It was better than stock but still laggy. I can't remember what rom it was but it was based on Samsuck firmware, hence why it's still laggy I guess.
For some reason, when I originally rooted it I had trouble with CWM recovery not installing, I can't even remember now what exactly was happening, but I managed to get the rom installed without a proper custom recovery, so when I go into recovery it's just the stock Samsung recovery, with no options for nandroid backup, restore, flash zip from sd card, etc. Basically I can't do anything useful in recovery.
Anyways lately, worse and worse she has been getting the Android text message to wrong recipient bug. If you aren't aware of it, it causes messages you sent to go to a different person in your text message message list. No it is not user error.
So I decided to try and data wipe. After this there is basically no launcher when it boots up. The notification pulldown is there and working, and it shows the phone has a signal and wifi is turning on and working, capacitive buttons light up when you press them, but you can't do anything except grab the pulldown.
It won't connect to USB when booted up, phone shows a message that you must close running processes first, or something like that. But I cannot flash a rom from recovery anyways, since it only brings up a stock recovery.
I can get it into download mode, if I hold my tongue just right and try several times, but not sure what to try to flash with Odin. I already downloaded an ICS Passion rom, but then reading the tutorial saw that I must first download CM7 and install that, then upgrade the bootloaders to the GB ones, then flash the ICS rom. I would really like to at least upgrade to 2.3 and something not based on Samsung fw, but the main priority is to get it working again.
Anyways, whatever you guys can suggest to try would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Honestly bro, everything I'm seeing in Google makes it seem like that phone is more on par with the Galaxy S Fascinate than with our Vibrant. Although on the exterior they all look so similar... I dunno, maybe check out their forums and see if you get anymore help there?
Here's the link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=718
Goodluck!
The title of this thread looks similar to my problem with my Samsung Vibrant. So I would ask it here, too.
I'm not sure if I bricked my vibrant, it's still power up, only to to first screen, which has the words Vibrant (and) Samsung and stay there forever.
I first rooted my Vibrant successfully.
Then, I've followed the instructions below:
1. Download the latest version of the ROM from the original development page.
2. Transfer the downloaded zip file to the root of the internal SD card on your phone.
3. Turn off your phone and wait for complete shutdown (wait for capacitive button lights to go off).
4. Then, boot into Clockworkmod (CWM) recovery. To do so, press and hold these 3 buttons together: Volume Up, Volume Down, & the Power button till the screen turns on, then let go of the buttons. In recovery, use Volume keys to scroll up and down and power key to select an option.
5. Perform a full Wipe (this will not wipe your SD cards)
a. Wipe data / factory reset –> then Select Yes - Wipe data/Factory reset on the next screen.
b. Select “mounts and storage“, then select “format system” -> select “Yes” on next screen to confirm. Then, select “go back” to go back to the main recovery menu.
6. Now scroll to “Install zip from sdcard” and select it.
7. Select “Choose zip from sdcard”. Scroll to the file you transferred in Step 2 and select it.
8. Now confirm installation by selecting “Yes — Install **your_rom_file_name**.zip – The ROM will start installing.
9. The phone will reboot to recovery in the middle of the installation, then continue installing the ROM.
When I got to step 7, instead of running the zip file downloaded on step 1. I run the update.zip (something like that). And I couldn't get back to the CWM recovery screen anymore. Only I can boot it to the regular recovery screen, where it let you:
reboot the system
reinstall packages
delete all user data
delete cache data.
Or boot up to the screen described at the beginning of this post.
So what should/can do to fix this problem?
I think my phone is t959 (it's t-mobile Samsung Vibrant)
Thanks for the reply. As far as I thought the only similarity between this and the at t fascinate was the name fascinate. There's is the i5000 and mine is the t959d? Should this post be moved over there? I found a thread there with someone having partly. the same issue as mine not being able to install cwm but its been there for days and likely will not be replied to.
I've spent a lot of time trying to fix messed-up installs. Seems to me that if for any reason you can't rrflash the rom, or reflashing and wiping doesn't work, just Odin-ing back to JFD and going from there is the best bet.
Well I was about to go ahead and download stock JFD and try flashing that but it appears that Mega upload has been shutdown by the FBI for fraudulent activity, and Rapid share is not working either. Maybe they're too busy because of the mega Upload shutdown or they were owned by the same people and have also been shut down. So now I'm not sure where to even find files that are safe to flash.
I just spent another hour on here and Android forums, and basically all the the threads are one or two posts, with no resolution to the OP, and none of the downloads links anywhere are working. I'm pretty patient but I'm ready to give up. Does anyone want to trade a soft bricked T959D in mint condition for any old beatup HTC that works? I've had my fill of Samsung's now.
No trade sorry but if you want to donate shoot me a pm.
Before you dump it, give me some time to look into this and I'll see if I can get you up and running with some files. Sammys are way user friendly unless you aren't doing something right, then you could always go back to stock.
Hold the phone. Haha. I'll get back to you.
You too ciditin
Thanks Woodrube, I will definitely wait patiently as long as I know I'm going to be able to sort it out eventually. I'm busy with schoolwork so even though I enjoy this kind of thing I hate spending hours upon hours on it just trying to get the phone operational again.
I've been spoiled by my htc desire, it's been almost foolproof to do anything after spending a short time reading a few FAQ's and there have been no close calls. Soon I'll probably try an ICS rom once they get a bit more stable.
I will definitely do a donate if you can help me get it going with a decent rom. I would love to have lag fix on it since my girlfriend is a bit annoyed at the lag.
Since I got my first Android phone in August 2010, I've rooted and rom'd an LG Shine Plus, LG Optimus One, HTC Desire, the T959D and Galaxy S2 T989D (sold after I got it on an early renewal). I also had to fix my sisters I9000M after a failed 2.3 update operation. So I'm no expert on this, but I've got a little bit of experience messing around with stuff. Just they all require different processes, different programs to do the job, so you have to relearn it for every new phone.
The Samsung's have been the biggest pain compared to the others, but I think it's mostly because the Canadian versions are always slightly different than the Tmobile version, but besides that Samsung always has several different versions of the same.
If I get this thing up and running again I will probably check out your GPS fix thread, cause the GPS on this phone would lock on but it was way out to lunch. Like 6 streets away from us out to lunch.
I found the way to fix my problem, hopefully it'll fix yours.
I was able to restore my stock.
Here is what you have to do.
WARNING!!! THIS WILL WIPE ANY DATA ON YOUR DEVICE, IT WILL REPLACE YOUR BASEBAND, KERNEL, RECOVERY AND OS.
DOWNLOADS:
ODIN application
512 PIT file - I can't post link so pm me
T-Mobile Vibrant JFD Image – I can't post link so pm me
USB Drivers from the Samsung Galaxy S – 32 Bit Windows Download \ 64 Bit Windows Download (again I can't post link, yet)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Turn off your phone (remove battery, and usb cable to pc).
2. Plug usb cable to your phone (this is just for easy to connect to the PC in the next step), do NOT connect it to your pc just yet.
3. Get your phone into DOWNLOAD mode by holding the Volume Up, Volume down, and plug your usb cable to your PC. A yellow digging Android sign should be on the screen of your phone. This may take a few tries to get it right.
3. Launch ODIN.The third box dow from the top-left box should then say a COM port (the box under the top-left box should be yellow).
4. In ODIN, load each file with its corresponding field:
___a. Click PIT and select *.pit file extracting from the 512 PIT file above.
___b. Click PDA and select the *.tar, stock JFD file.
5. Don’t check anything else, the other two boxes should be checked by default (Auto Reboot and Reset Time)
6. Hit “start.” Be patient for a couple minutes! (The bar under the top left box should show the progress, and on you phone, too)
7. You should have your Vibrant back in with stock configuration.
Good luck!
NOTE: COM3 worked fine for me. COM should not matter as long as you are using the correct drivers.

Ok. I wasn't soliciting for a monetary donation, I was just going off that you wanted to trade. I can't trade but if you ever want to donate your phone then just PM me.
I have to agree with kawika that everything I have read has been that your model number is for the Fascinate. Easy tip off would be; does your phone have a sim card? It is probably a CDMA phone with no sim slot. I suggest getting the files you need from the Fascinate forums as I am almost positive that the T959 files will not work on the T959d. Since you have modded a I-9000m you know that they are slightly different than the I-9000. Same thing goes with this circumstance.
Good luck and sorry that there wasn't more I could do but it is just a different phone.
@Citidin - Good to see you got yours solved. If you have questions, please ask (in the correct thread for your question a this one will probably be closed out).
It definitely has a sim card and it's HSPA, I pulled the Sim card out and put it in my HTC Desire for her to use, and put my SIM card in this crappy little LG Optimus One that's too small for me to type on. So I guarantee it has a sim card and is nothing like the Verizon phones which will not work on any of the Canadian carriers AFAIK. I think nobody understands what the phone is, and that's why almost every thread with a problem like this ends in 0 replies. I think from now on I will stay away from Samsung's abortion phones that they sell in Canada. Or at least I will research community support before getting one.
Ours is called the Fascinate, but its completely different model # than theirs, it is the T959D. Just like how the new Telus galaxy S2x is the T989D, same phone as the T mobile T989_.
For some reason there seems to be a few posts in the Fascinate section, for Telus only, I think that only started because of confusion about what the phone was, but the phone has nothing in common with the Verizon CDMA version. Actually I think if you look up, just about every phone that Telus or Bell (same network basically) gets, is a phone that T mobile got first. HTC Amaze being another one. HTC Desire Z is the same as the Tmobile G2.
Sorry I misunderstood you about donating the phone itself. My last effort will be the JFD file that Citidin sent me a link to. Hopefully that gets it going. If not I will stash it away until I have extra time to try again.
Well once I got the JFD file downloaded and put phone in download mode, turned on Odin, realized the PC recognizes the device attached and being malfunctioned, so I cannot flash with Odin.
I tried Heimdall which I downloaded yesterday, but the program won't load as it says I'm missing a DLL file.
I tried Android flasher which I downloaded who knows when, and tried to just install a recovery image with it, but it gets stuck while pushing recovery image and the program locks up.
I decided to try my girlfriends Laptop instead of mine after maybe 40 failed attempts to get Odin to communicate on mine, and to my surprise it recognized it right away. I transferred my files, with the JFD to this computer and then flashed with Odin. It took about 2 minutes and it was up and running. I checked about phone and it said 2.3.3 firmware. Really confused I looked back at odin and realized I flashed the I9000M stock 2.3.3 firmware (KG3) that I flashed on my sisters phone back around xmas. I forgot I did that on this laptop.
Anyways it is working as it should except for the home button not working (which I had already read about in a thread about using I9000M or Vibrant roms on the T959D).
While it is unfortunately stock again, the 2.3.3 should fix the original problem of sending to texts to the wrong recipient, and it also seems a lot less laggy. I think I'll just let her try it as is and hope she is happy.
If you use the JFD file from the link I sent you, it should be the stock Tmobile Vibrant.
Similar problem
Sorry dont mean to hijack your thread but I think I am having a similar problem - posted in the wrong spot before so hopefully I am ok here...
Have a Vibrant and some how got crossed up on it.
I have been able to use Odin to update the phone, however after it says its done, it does a reboot as it supposed to, shows the samsung screen then just shuts down.
After about a hundred tries, someone pointed me to Eugene's no brick. I tried that and it will fix it so it will boot and go into recovery, but I can't seem to do much once I get there. My only options are to update, wide data and wipe cache. Can't get to the point where I can load an update onto the unit.
I tried wide data and reset, then reboot. It shows the samsung vibrant logo, then the splash screen, then the big S and then screen goes black and the cap buttons stay lit.
If I try to go back and load the stock pit and jfd file, it just goes back to not booting at all and shutting down after the logo
I cant seem to get it into recovery unless I do Eugene's fix
In one of my earlier attempts, I did check to repartition as direct in one of the other threads - been chasing this a while now!
Edit: It was originally a bell phone - does this matter?
If it was a Bell phone than it should be the I9000M. It sounds like your problem is a bit different than mine was. I was able to get into recovery mode and download mode just fine. I just didn't know which files to flash with.
I intended to flash the JFD that citidin sent me, but I accidentally use the KJ3 (latest I9000M 2.3.3 firmware). The I9000 and Vibrant roms are compatible with the T959D Telus Fascinate though, only problem being no home or search button.
It sounds like the Eugene thing (whatever that is, I'm not familiar) gets you into stock recovery. Like my original issue, you cannot flash or mount the sd card, or much of anything with the stock recovery.
Do you know that the file your flashing is compatible with your phone (the I9000M I assume)? More info that would probably help, is what firmware did you have on it before, was it JFD? What update did you try on it? Bootloader version - there are gingerbread bootloaders, and froyo bootloaders I think?
Have you tried different files other than the one that doesn't seem to boot up for you? I think most of the tutorials I've looked at, said not to check repartition. When i finally got this T959D working with the I9000 rom I did not check repartition and did not select a pit file, just the PDA, phone, CSC.
Yes it is a I9000M - I was trying to load the JFD tar file along with the 512 pit file. I followed a thread in the I9000 section and loaded a JPD tar file onto it, now it shows up as a I9000B - maybe I should stop
I can now get into recovery and or download (i think the steps are differant than hold both volume buttons - mine is holding the volume one way for recovery and the other way for download, along with home and power)
Wondering if I am in this bind because it isnt really what most are calling a Vibrant - maybe under Bell it is something else.
Bootloader? didn't know I had to do anything there
I just picked up the phone used from someone - I assumed it was stock and didn't do a good check to see what was on it.
I9000m is not the Vibrate but rather the Bell version of the Captivate. There is a dev section for the I9000m in the I9000 group.
I would definately stop what you are doing and read over there.
******
Also 350 you can re-map your keys to work but I am mobile now and cant search it for you. Reason being that the. Vibrant keys are laid out differently in, ahh can't think right niece where they are, but it is fixable. Just search key remap or remapping.
Thanks very much for the help - have to wonder why they cant call them the same names regardless of where they are sold - guess thats why they get the big bucks

[Q] Really need help:Lg G2 ls980 stuck on fastboot

I want to perma-unlock the sim so i wont have to use sprint because they suck eggs. But using a program called autorec, i am stuck in fastboot. I have tried the download thing where you power off and plug in the usb to get download mode, but as soon as it powers on it goes directly to fastboot or download mode pops up, then is sent directly to---YOU guessed it! FASTBOOOOOOOOT
So i need to go back to square one, and start from the very stock LG G2 Ls980, help will be appreciated. I will post links of guides i tried but led me to this problem. Also, anyone who would like to post a good guide, no problem, to unlocking the phone to be used on another rom such as AT&T or Tmobile, that would be fantastic. I want to get this phone up and working to replace an old phone, but sprint is a egg sucker.

but it all ends in fastboot: processing commands
I have seen alot of other guides
I still need help, specific instructions for my device would be great. all the info in the first post.
For the speedy reply
I really ****ed it up now due to every flash to stock from fastboot menu on this site. It is black screen cant even access anything, no stock rom ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET WTF and i am beyond irritated with how many inaccurate threads on this site. The phone altogether is really pissing me off. **** sprint for making their phones just as ****ty as every service they have.

I work on that phone all the time and never remember seeing any threads for restoring via fastboot...? The preferred way is via kdz and the LG FlashTool. So once you power off and leave it off for like 30 secs then hold Volume Up and plug in the phone does not get you to Download Mode? Have not seen that one before...
As far as unlocking, especially if you aren't going to use Sprint again, I prefer to use one of the roms that is based off GSM with the Sprint kernel so it'll boot. I like the Energy rom for 4.2.2. Works and looks great. Have installed it for quite a few customers and have never had a complaint (well, one wasn't a fan of the dark theme, but can't please em all...) or anyone bring it back to me. There is a newer one that is like a stock rom but 4.4.2. Haven't tried that one since I like to stick with what I know works and haven't had enough chance to test the new one.
The steps I take are:
Use LG FlashTool to go back to ZV7 update
Root with ioroot (at leave version 22 and 25 works too)
Use Flashify to install the loki-ed TWRP 2.6.3.3
Reboot to recovery
Install Energy rom and ZV8 radio (must flash radio or it will not boot)
...
Profit!
PS: If you need NFC, there's a separate zip to flash.
I have everything for this operation uploaded to my Mega account and have performed it remotely. If you're just completely stuck and you can still get into Download mode, let me know and I can help with whatever else you need.

prevent any issues I have read about previously mentioned. Also I have successfully preformed backups as
well as restores, both before and after wiping. I have not figured out how to enter twrp recovery upon boot
yet, so be careful of what you do!
*SAFE TO REMOVE APPS*
yet to come
I use "titanium backup" from the play store, still trimming.I can get it down to about 230MB
available "free" ram at the moment but not consistently.
Ok had an issue with a task manager improperly reporting free available ram... true availability was
around 150mb free. There are apps that have to be replaced when removed, for example a launcher
for a launcher but some do not. Again I'm still trimming and experimenting, right now my system rom
around 244mb free. Most every thing I have done has been on the phone its self without the need of a P.C.
*STOCK BACK UP*
Yet to come
Any candidates for a true stock rom? Ive hacked the crap out of this one so far without the need of a back up... i know tisk tisk tisk!
I'm going for a debloated deodexed stock rom, hopefully!
*DRIVERS*
The only ones I could find that actually work. The Verizon drivers mentioned for the g2, not surprising since it runs on vz towers!

140 works
130 works
120 works (looks good)
110 works
Temporarily went back to native dpi for debloating purposes. Will revisit later.
After messing with DPI settings I'm having a"contacts has stopped working " when tapping on the phone app.
DPI set to 120 when I noticed. All dpi switches affect lg home launcher
so you will need another launcher.
ok so far thats what i got. whats the nexts step to a stock AOSP rom?

I've got a few of these that are bootlooping. They show the LG logo, and then TracPhone Wireless splash screen infinitely in a loop.
Two questions.
1 - Is there any way to recover them? I'm hoping for some sort of a dev tool that I could flash a stock image or something (like Odin is for Samsung phones)
2- When these phones started bootlooping, I installed TWRP on the other Fuels that I have, thinking that I didn't want it to happen to them. My understanding of the TWRP that's installed from TWRP manager doesn't flash a modified boot image, so you can't enter TWRP from a powered off (or in my case, bootlooping) phone. Is that correct? I flashed a custom boot image from elsewhere that allows me to tap vol up at the LG logo to boot to TWRP. Any idea if this is enough of a safeguard to in the even of similar boot loops?
Any chance you know how to get it in diag mode? I need to connect it to DFS but can't without diag. Thanks for your help!

My apologies for the delayed response. I have a lot going on in life.
As for recovering them, use the device you have closest to stock to make a backup. Do this before you attach your account or put any thing in to it after a "fresh wipe". To the best of my knowledge there isnt a tool like odin available, i could be wrong though. You can push a back up to the looping devices via adb. in order to do this you must have previously enabled usb debugging. The instructions are available on the web, i my self dont know how to do this. If you can establish an adb connection im sure you can command it to boot into twrp. For setup and testing use one of the devices that doesnt have a problem to establish adb. There is a little info on another thread i created about investigating the boot process the link is in my signature for the defy. Please be patient with me as i have two jobs and a single father, im not a hacker or developer. just a normal guy that is fascinated by my little robot willing to learn any thing. now that I know this thread is becoming active Ill monitor a little closer. Also if there is any thing i can help with ill be glad to do so. Im wanting to get a second fuel just for dev and learning purposes.
Recovery
Is there a way to access recovery on the lg fuel? I am stuck in a boot loop because I disabled the home screen service as well as other things that I did not pay attention to. I do not have a custom recovery installed.
I've never been able to boot to recovery by way of button press. Seems like there's a way to get into boot loader mode though. Just can't remember off the top of my head, I'm at work now and don't have the fuel with me. I'll see what I can figure out in a few hours when I get home. In the mean time you can try button combos upon boot to include the home button. If we can get ADB talking to it there's a chance I can send you copies of the files needed. Give me more details of what you have done just before the boot looping.

I bought the optimus fuel a few months ago and i've been using it primarily for a music player/run keeping devices during my jogs. I turned off mobile data and i've noticed that i still see signal bars on the top notification area - does this mean that the radios are still on?
I was wondering if there was some way to completely disable the cellular radios so that i could conserve battery life inbetween days where I don't run?
Thanks!
This is a pretty cool app....

Airplane mode and then turn WiFi back on does the trick. "Radios off" = ton more juice
Has anyone found out anything else for this little phone? I have the LG Optimus Fuel. Had it for a few months now. I rooted it as soon as I got it and uninstalled a few system apps like the LG keyboard, the default SMS app and Chrome along with 2 or 3 other Google apps. It's still running fine.
I installed TWRP recovery and a custom boot image so I could boot into recovery by pressing the up volume button. Works great. I made a full system backup and saved it to my external SD card and saved it to my Debian laptop.
Right now I'm just looking for a custom ROM for this little phone but can't find one. I'd love to get Cyanogenmod on this phone but there are none. I'd port it myself but I'm not able to at the moment.

I'll expand on the above link because no one can view all of the info in that thread w/o registering for that site [PITA].
Load towelroot (www.towelroot.com). Upon running towelroot, press "welcome to towelroot v3" 3-times (quickly). Change 1337 0 1 0 4 0 to 1337 0 0 0 4 0 (change only the ONE to a ZERO), click "make it ra1n" and you're rooted. :good:
This was verified on an L34C running Android 4.4, Kernel 3.4.0+, build KRT16S.L34CV10c, Sw ver L34CV10c.
YMMV; IANAL
My apologies for the inconvenience, I was unaware for the need to register.
What I would like to do with the L34C is find a ROM with all the phone functionality removed, and few to no Google Apps (let me just add the ones I need). I am not planning on using it as a phone (I still have my old Casio flip-phone, need nothing else). My intention was to experiment with creating a PalmPDA "replacement", something small to carry around for addresses, notes/memos, calendar (you know, the stuff you used to do on PalmOS), and in addition figure out how to do record-level synchronization **locally** (as in I don't need to send my data to some dirt-floor shack in Bangalore just to have it sent back to a device 2 feet away from my computer). Additionally, would line to use it as a basic portable media player. Essentially, trying to re-create the Palm LifeDrive on Android.
To my knowledge there are no roms available for this device. Your best bet in my opinion is to remove apps 1 by 1 after rooting. Google each and find out what the risk and severity of removing them are. I have donated my device to a less fortunate fellow employee. So as of now I'm unable to help with testing. This method is what I do for all of my devices until I'm finally happy with its performance and functionality. Think of Android as the swiss army knife of the computer world, you can do just about any thing with it, you just gotta figure out what tools are useful to you and the ones you can do with out, then you gotta ask Google witch ones Android can function with out. I hope you find what your looking for in the little robot, its a really neat world inside there!
I hate to bump an old thread but, I also don't it necessary to start a new one, at least not yet anyway but, I too am looking for a way to flash stock ROM. I have LG34Cs to use as a reference..
Where is the link to exposed framework at for this phone?
All official twrp 3 images are broken on official site. Last good working was 2.8.7.0.

Broken as in doesn't boot into recovery. The phone will still boot into android, assuming you have a working system, and within android with root you can flash a working recovery image over a broken flash with the dd command on the twrp device info page (twrp.me/lg/lgoptimusfuel.html). So no real risk of brick, just possible inconvenience that might require a battery pull.
I built twrp 3.2.1 with same sources but I have not tested it since my battery seems to have completely died and the phone won't boot with usb power alone.
Here is link anyway in case anyone is interested:

Hard Brick after 20j to 20e revert- Don't do it!

UPDATE: Read this!
TLDR: Don't flash 20j update and try to revert....== HARD BRICK
Long version:
The new 20j update has the Anti-Rollback feature tag set that you can NOT revert back to 20e.......You will HARD BRICK your V10 if you do so. I have...and a few others have.
I was on Eliminater74 20e rom, which is excellent. But he released a P1 .zip for the new 20j update. This contains new bootloader etc. (no P2 which is the actual rom for 20j yet.)
This will boot on 20e, but users (myself included) noticed video issues with YouTube and soon after, others reporting that video recording is broken now.
Naturally, we thought to revert and flash back to the 20e bootloader P1. zip.......and that caused HARD BRICK. Phone gets stuck in Qualcomm Emergency Bootloader mode that is not recoverable.
FIX: Contact " tungkick" http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4965298
He helped me un-brick phone. No data was lost! Was quite easy actually. ( I don't see his methods or files he used released here on XDA publicly) (if it is i'm blind.) So don't ask me...contact "" tungkick" .
See post here for instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-v10/development/debrick-phone-h901-qualcomm-9008-t3440359
I did the same thing, flash tool isnt picking up phone either, I think we are hard bricked at this point...

So I booted to TWRP and flashed the olde rP1 .zip for the orginal bootstock and hit reboot system and no...Nothing!
Black screen. No vibrate when I try vol down + power. When i try Vol up and connect usb to my computer...It shows "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM8). LG Up says it cant find anything.
Usb device descriptor failed in Device manager when I do vol down and plug in.
I have no idea what do? Help? I have been searching a few forums, but not really sure what is happening.

I was just about to start a new thread asking if I could flash back to previous marshmallow. Anti rollback may be in effect. If you have all the correct drivers installed it sounds to me like a hard brick. Hopefully I'm wrong and someone can help you

And....I assume a hard brick is very bad...not easy to fix? I messed up my G3 once, but at least it would show some sign of life.
I am not at all experienced with adb or fastboot..and how to get all that to work...I have tried, but with no success. Don't suppose there is someone I can send my phone to have it unbricked?
Same predicament here

Oh guys.... I am pretty sure that I've read around here and there that when you get that Qualcomm message you're not recoverable. I surely hope I'm wrong!
Sent from my pretty nifty brand new LG V10
Yea....it sucks. I have literally been up all night trying every method I can to recover from the Qualcomm Emergency Bootloader mode I'm stuck in. There are some LG programing tools that seem to be fake/scam by some user...but those were for the G3 and G4 anyway. Nothing I tried worked.
Just bought the V10 2 months ago used off swappa, already rooted, twrp etc..about $300. Just got the thing all setup the way I wanted it too...sigh. THis is what I get for not being patient and seeing what others experience before flashing something so new.
I was slightly aware of an "Anti-rollback" thing,,,but had no idea it would apply to same and inter-version version of OS. I still don't get why flashing the 20j bootstack on top of the current 20e rom would have caused the video freezing of youtube issue. Standard troubleshooting measures dictated to flash back to the 20e Bootstack to see if the issue went away(I have flashed back and forth bootstack etc on my G3 before with no issues).
Whelp......I guess myself and the other user (SIGMAxB) the 2 confirmed hard bricks served as the community warning........and my very first hard brick and loss of a device in such a fashion. THankfully, I was able to find last night another used V10 on Swappa that is already root and TWRP...for slightly less money that what I paid for my now bricked device. Least I had made an LG backup last week, and all my data is on the External SD card...but still gonna be annoying to have to start over......
Any mad scientist or master flasher who knows how to recover such a bricked device... I would be interested in sending it to them to fix....(I doubt T Mobile will give me a new one, nor wil LG Service the device. It's still under LG warranty, but their site requires u upload a copy of the receipt, and their terms state only covers original owner. So used phone off Swappa.....does not qualify. )
Dropped off my phone at a place called CPR (Cell Phone Repair). Thier location near me is more advanced than most others in that they can do data recovery and software kind of things. They said they may be able to fix phone, but he isn't very sure. Said there will be some techs in tomorrow that are more advanced that may be bale to help. I personally don't have much hope, but worth a shot at this point.
Until then...using my Moto X Pure for now...while I wait for the replacement V10 i bought off Swappa to arrive.
That really bites man.....I'm sorry.
I'm a prepay customer....they have different policies for us vs post paid customers.
I called 611 and got transferred around a bit. But finally got them to process a warranty exchange. I have to ship them the phone and they will send me a new one....hopefully. They didn't mention anything about a charge.
So at least I have that option to pursue should CPR place fail to reflash phone.

I did the same thing. It really sucks because I been doing this for over 5 years and this is my first brick. I guess thats what we get for having faith in a developer that should of known or properly tested this before putting a rom out.

While I agree that things should be tested...or otherwise noted that it has or hasn't been so.... (OP does have Status: Testing posted)
It wasn't the rom, his 20e rom runs great. But the updated P1 20j(bootloader)zip....it was the act of reverting and flashing the previous Bootloader version that caused the Hard Brick.
Until this point, I (and many others here) had not seen anything about the Anti-Rollback feature being an issue while on the same Android OS version (LP or MM builds). Now we know it is.
Additionally, the other posts on Eliminater74, rom forum....are indeed users reporting issues with the 20j zip...(mainly Video recording and YouTube streaming). However, the phone is not bricked.
Unfortunately, it's on us folks who flashed it right after it was released and then tried to revert who got screwed. It is definitely a good idea to wait a few days after something is posted to be sure others, mainly early adopters, don't report issues. If your phone is mission critical and you can not be without it or risk having a issue, then modding is not what you should be doing. Or at the very least, once you do get something flashed and stable.....stick with it (that voice in the back of my head was telling me this when i decided to try the update).
I am not sure as to how Eliminater74, had tested the P1 20j bootstack flashed to his 20e rom....but yes,,,,it does suck that this happened...but I am kicking myself in the head...not the dev. At least mine and the 2 others gave him waring and he was able to post a big red warning on the OP. Though I would suggest he remove the 20j part.....but that is up to him.
Least i had a backup phone to make use of until i can get a new V10...very annoying to have do so...but its something.
PS: I am actually starting to like my Moto X Pure more. Dual front facing speakers really nice. ON stock rom now, but used Bliss or while....that's is very nice and super tweakable. Screen isnt has sharp as the v10....and camera is just super basic. I also miss tap to unlock and the other LG specific features...but stock android is growing on me. The BT toggle has a dropdown to select devices to connect to right there, very convenient.
I'm definitely buying LG phones
this latest LG phone

the picture looks

Bought "New" from eBay. Arrived rooted.

I just bought this phone through eBay through a very highly recommended seller. It was marked as brand new and it would come with the packaging and headphones. It came some things in little Ziplocs like the battery and the actual phone and the backing piece was in an actual Factory bag just the unsealed straight bags that you open and dump out so I'm thinking this isn't a new phone that is pre owned and don't know what to do. I went to do the upgrade from lollipop to marshmallow and it said phone is suspected of being rooted and then closed. Every time I turn the phone on it says "unfortunately teleyphoney has stopped". And not telephone but then it disappears and it runs fine. Just wondering others thoughts on the situation. It was stuck on AT&T to go has stopped and it wouldn't let me dismiss it or press okay so I had to hit okay and quickly swipe down to get into settings and it went away. I paid $250 us for the phone and it is spotless not a nick or even micro scratches on it anywhere so I thought it was a great deal. What would you do? Id just like some other peoples insight into this. I usually use nova launcher prime on every phone. I haven't rooted of flashed a Rom in years. Are there good roms? Like I said it's mint condition but has some occasional hiccups here and there.
Hi
I take it that your phone is the AT&T H900 V10, if so the phone is bootloader locked and cannot be rooted by the usual means. I believe there is a Rom in existence that provides root and TWRP recovery. You need to search for an OP named "tungkick or kik " as he has made this. Sorry to be so negative but I have the same phone running stock.

Yes that's the model. I just dont know why someone would take a brand new lg v10 root it then sell it. Could it have possibly been stolen and the eBay seller rooted it so he could unlock it? I don't know a ton about this stuff but have rooted and flashed roms years back. I would like it stock. The fingerprint scanner doesn't work and that's all I found so far.

Hi
To get stock search for the latest AT&T stock rom, which is H90020w. When and if you have it you will need the programs LGUP and or LG Bridge plus the LG drivers for the V10 (Google them). When you have all, you then need to put the V10 into download mode by switching the phone off completely.( I found that if after it is off you remove the battery and replace it after a couple of minutes it helps ensure it is completely off.) Then plug your USB cable to your computer and while holding the volume up button on the phone insert the other end of the cable into the phone and you will be in download mode. You then run LGUP and at the bottom of the program you will see a blank entry with BIN at the left side and 3 dots on the right,
Click here and then go to where you have saved the Rom and click on it and it should show in the enrty pane beside BIN. Hit start and the Rom will install.
Hope this longwinded explanation is helpful.

Nothing will work with bridge except back-up probably because it realizes it's rooted. So this process will not unroot my phone just give me a stock Rom? as my phone was only rooted when it arrived and I use nova launcher prime instead of factory launchers on all the phones I get. I have 5 days to return it but see a lot of people want their v10s rooted but can't unless you did it before updates. I know rooting was part of installing the roms yrs ago but that's all I remembered. I am just a little ticked as it was listed as brand new but when I get it it's rooted. Other than that and fingerprint not working it is brand new. Still has plastic on metal strips n all. The seller has a great eBay record and there were a bunch of these available but listed as New. I even called and asked if brand new and he said yes. So idk if I should take it on the chin and keep it or ship it back and go another few weeks w out phone in hopes of getting an unopened one.
@nednerbish
That is a strange one. I bought my H900 and an H901 both off Ebay and both came Sim unlocked but that was all. They are both brand new. I bought the H901 because it can be bootloader unlocked and i like to use other Roms. The H900 i bought because it wa stock only and it updated to the Rom i quoted previously OTA. Have you tried the "repair recovery option of LG Bridge. And what version of Rom is on the phone is it MM or Lollipop? Because that can make a difference.

Here's a screenshot.
And when I turn phone on or restart it I get this every time. I don't get it.
Lollipop. If you go to XDA Developers. LG V10 General tab there is a very good guide explaining how to go back to stock. Also you could download the LG support tool it may assist.

I'll check it out. Thank you again.
Hi do you know which of these I need for a rooted h90010f? I have Lg bridge installed and I installed lgup ver 1_14_3.msi I think the malware "teleyphone" is embedded in the Rom they flashed. I can't tell in my files where the Rom they used is.
Hi
The first H90020j is the stock Lollipop (Android 5) Rom.
The second H90021w is the latest stock Marshmallow (Android 6) Rom
The last one is what is says it is a rooted Rom but I do not know what Version of Android it is. It could be the same as the Rom you have installed at the moment and using it will keep you where you are now. The second is pure stock and if installed via LGUP will get rid of your problem, hopefully, unless there is something else involved.
